Today we are going to feature Art Gallery Fabrics! If you have never worked with them before, they are lovely! The hand is so soft and light and the colors and designs are very elegant and beautiful. Art Gallery Fabrics has a wonderful blog where you can keep up with the latest fabrics and designers along with links to free quilt projects. You can also follow them on Pinterest. If you're like me, your only problem is deciding which projects to tackle!

Spring Flowers and Rhubarb Yummies!

Wow! It is gorgeous outside today! I went out to water a few things i transplanted yesterday and got carried away picking flowers and rhubarb!

This is one of my two lilac bushes...the backstory is i took them as starts from a bush at my parents house probably 10 - 11 years ago and planted them by my house. Well, they never did anything. They grew a little, but never bloomed. So, plants that i'm not quite ready to give up on but aren't quite cutting it up close to the house get moved out to the fencerow and that's where they've been for about 5 years. Last year, they finally had about 5 measly blooms. But today, i was outside picking rhubarb (also in the fencerow just because it looks like a big obnoxious weed but it's pretty tasty when you add enough sugar), i was about to walk over to the apple tree to check out the blossoms, and i did a double take! (the lilacs are near the fruit trees) My lilac bushes are gorgeous!! All these years i would send the kids down the road a bit to an abandoned farmhouse (now torn down) to pick lilacs from the bush that practically hangs out into the road! But now we don't have to do that!! Yay! Our own beautiful lilacs. That bush at my parents house is probably 20 feet around by the way. Maybe someday when our son lives in our house and we build a grandma house, ours will be that way. He is 7 and already informs us that he is keeping the house and we can build a new one, thank you!

The apple blossoms were also quite beautiful! The honeybees also think so. If you stand still under there, you can here a constant hum of bees doing their thing.

It occured to me while i was standing there thinking how beautiful nature can look and smell in the springtime, that this is still just a glimpse of the eternity that awaits us when we believe in Christ. I can only imagine how springtime in Heaven will look! (gee, i can only imagine...someone should right a song about that! Oh, wait, someone did!)

(can you tell i get sidetracked easily most days?!?)

Well, other than watering plants, the other thing i went out to do was to pick some more rhubarb. I roped my 16yrold daughter into making us a rhubarb crips yesterday and my little piggies ate the entire pan! I promised to make them another one for today. And the best part is, I took pictures! So, sit back and learn to make a delicious Rhubarb Crisp!

1. Dice up your rhubarb and throw it into a 9X13 baking dish. If you have plenty, go ahead and make one for the neighbors, who in my case happen to be the inlaws!

2. To make the sauce to pour over the rhubarb, add 1 c sugar, 2 T cornstarch, 1 c water and 1 t vanilla to a saucepan. (Pic shows before water added)

Here's what it will look like after you've added the water. Remember to use cold water!

3. Turn the heat up to medium high and stir it somewhat frequently.

4. Cook it until it is thick and clear. You will know it is clear when you hold your fork up and what drips off is clear.

5. Pour your sauce over the rhubarb. And, don't mind the clutter on the counter, this is a sewing blog folks! ;)

6. For the topping, add your dry ingredients to a bowl. 1 c flour, 3/4 c oatmeal, 1 c brown sugar, and 1 t cinnamon.

7. Add 1/2 c melted butter and mix until combined.

8. Crumble your topping over the rhubarb and it's sauce. Spoon, fingers...it's all good!

9. Bake at 350 F for 1 hour until the topping is golden brown. The girls in our family like to top it with whipped topping, but the guys like it au naturel...you make even like it with ice cream...any which way you like it, it's good stuff!!

The Scarlet Thread Quilt Co's Rhubarb Crisp

4 c diced rhubarb

1 c sugar

2 T cornstarch

1 c water

1 t vanilla

1 c flour

3/4 cu uncooked oatmeal

1 c brown sugar

1/2 c melted butter

1 t cinnamon

Place rhubarb in 9 x 13 pan. In saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, water, and vanilla. Cook over medium high heat until thick and clear. Pour over rhubarb. In mixing bowl, mix flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Crumble over rhubarb/sauce. Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour until topping is golden brown. Serve hot or cold.

Friday's Feature on Saturday

Hi Friends! Just popping in on my way to the ballpark to let you know that the Flea Market Fancy and the Mama Said Sew will both be on sale this week! Yay!

Have I mentioned yet that we are now in the tuxedo rental business?!? Well, we are...and it's prom season! I am having fun seeing the boys in their tuxedos! It's funny...the first thing they all say after they put it on is "this thing is hot"! lol I just remind them that when they get there and first thing they want to do is shed the jacket and tie, is to stick the tie in the pocket and remember which jacket is yours!! Because graduations are also coming up, i've been very busy with T-shirt quilts, too. Don't forget, we also do long-arm quilting. We usually run about 4 weeks out from the time you drop off.

Hope everyone enjoys a safe, fun weekend! I'm sure several of you will be spending today at the ballpark just like us! ;)

Tutorial on Tuesday

This week's featured tutorial is from Melissa at Happy Quilting Melissa. Starburst is a beautiful quilt using fat quarters that has directions for 3 different sizes!! It looks a bit complicated, but Melissa simplifies it down to just Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese. At the end, she even has a tutorial for the quilting! How awesome is that!! But, if you decide you don't want to tackle the quilting, contact us for a quilting quote. ;)

I think it would be stunning in our Spring Fat Quarter Collection! The only hard part will be deciding which fat quarters to use! ;)

Tutorials on Tuesday - Numero Uno

So, trying to step up the game here at blog central and i suppose some kind of schedule might be a good way to achieve that. So far we have Feature Fabric Sales and, now, Tutorials on Tuesday! Yay!! Most of the time these will be projects I find here and there in the land of internet, occasionally they will be from yours truly...I actually have tons of ideas for them, but, alas, most of them are still stuck in my head! ;)

This is a cute little toy block project from Jessica of Mama Jama Quilts. You can find it at Cutting Corners by Riley Blake Designs.

Also, you will find a tutorial to make this cute little quilt.

There are a gazillion quilting and sewing tutorials how there, I'll try to help you wade through them to find the really good ones! ;)

Georgann's Strip Quilt

Even though it's not very springlike outdoors, today's customer quilt feels a fresh spring day with all it's colors and flowers.

This one belongs to Georgann. It's made from some April Cornell Moda fabric from a couple of years ago. She wanted it to be a little bit special, so in the borders i outlined the floral design and in each of the strips we put a different pattern. I think it turned out pretty special. I tried a couple of patterns I hadn't done before and i was happy with them.

We are going to start a new venture here at The Scarlet Thread Quilt Co. About once each week, we are going to feature a line of fabric in our shop and put it in SALE!! Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you prefer smaller cuts, simply message us through the shop.

This week, we will start with some Flea Market Fancy. It is a reprint of a Denyse Schmidt line. If you do a search on Flickr for Flea Market Fancy you will find tons of inspiration! It is in the Westminster/Free Spirit section of the shop and you will have to go through the pages in the section to find all the pieces left.
