We invite you to come to the Place this Sabbath and share a spirit filled time of praise and worship with us. This week Pastor Simon will continue his series on Meeting Jesus with a sermon titled "Live Smart...like Jesus" which will focus on Matthew 10, verses 21-42. We look forward to having Aaron Doyle leading us in praise and worship and he will also have a special music for us. We will also dedicate our Fiji Mission Team Participants.

We will also have Children's Church this Sabbath at 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All kids are invited to come and learn and worship together.

We invite you to Sabbath School this Sabbath at 10:30 a.m. We have classes for all ages...from Cradle Roll, Kindergarten, Primary, Junior/Earliteen, Youth, Collegiate/Young Adult and an Adult class with Rob Randall leading.

Also, we invite you to come and pray or be prayed over each Sabbath at 9:45 a.m. in the Sabbath School wing. Our prayers are powerful!

Beach Vespers THIS Friday
We invite you all to our Beach Vespers THIS Friday (July 10th) at Sycamore Cove at 6:00 p.m. We will share in worship, fellowship and seeking God together...as well as enjoy some beach food...hot dogs and the like. We invite you to bring a dish to share if you can. But, don't miss the beautiful sunset!

Benefit Concert - Shearin and Courtney

Two of our own collegiate members have decided to be student missionaries next year. Courtney Crook will be venturing to the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia as a fourth grade teacher for 10 months. Shearin Matute will be taking care of children at an orphanage in Honduras for 9 months. Courtney and Shearin will be holding a concert at 8:00 pm here at the Place on Friday, July 24th in order to raise money for their missionary expenses. The concert is free, but donations would be greatly appreciated at the end of the program. So, please save the date! Both Courtney and Shearin are fantastic musicians who have written many original pieces!

Mission Trip 2009 - Leaving this week!

Our mission trip this year is in Fiji from July 14-28. So, the group is leaving next Tuesday night. We ask for your prayers for the 35 volunteers who will be going. If you would like to help support some of our young people financially, please feel free to mark your tithe envelope, "Fiji Mission." Thanks for your prayers and support.

Mommy's Ministry- Mommy's Night Out Tonight
The mommies ministry is planning several play dates and field trips this summer to take advantage of "summer vacation". Although the mommies group is designed for mommies with children of pre-school and elementary aged children, all are welcome to come and get together! We will have several play dates, field trips to swimming pools, the beach, and the zoo. And, of course there will also be an opportunity for mommies to get together alone without children and have fun! We hope that you will take part in this ministry as it is always a blessing to have other mothers to fellowship with. If you are interested and would like to receive emails and updates, please contact Sandra Haynes at sandrina68_7@yahoo.com or Cecilia Liversidge at cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com. and one of the ladies will send you information on the events planned.

TONIGHT: Ladies Night Out (Thursday) at Cafe Firenze 563 W. Los Angeles Ave in Moorpark @ 7:30 p.m. Please call Cecilia Liversidge at 310-699-3521 if you want to try and sneak in.

Next Thursday (July 16) - Park Day at Conejo Community Park (off Gainsborough by the T.O. church) at 10:00 a.m. on the new playground. Come and enjoy the time together with the little ones.

Vacation Bible School VBS-This Summer
We are excited to be hosting Vacation Bible School this summer, July 20-24th from 6-8 p.m. It will be at CAES and will be the Crocodile Dock theme. Debbie Moon, Jona Cooke and Jennifer Lew will be leading out, but need lots of help. Please talk to one of them if you are interested. We will have a SIGN UP SHEET at The Place this Sabbath for you to register. Cost is ONLY $5 per child (or free if you bring a friend.) But, we need you to SIGN UP NOW as we need to buy the crafts. New Officer Year
The month of July marks a new officer year for The Place. We are so blessed to have so many volunteers sharing their talents and time with us. We are excited to start a new year, but will miss three of our former leaders: Robert Nomelli, Ileana Burgos, and Brendon Lew. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication as well as to all who make all of the ministries at The Place a reality. It really does take a village! You may pick up a copy of our new officer list in the lobby this Sabbath.

We'll hold some jam sessions and opportunities to learn new songs, video workshops taught by some of the best christian artists out there, and early practices on Monday nights for those who CHOOSE to learn the music earlier than Sabbath morning. keep an eye out for news on these things coming up.

This Week at The Place-Happy 4th of July

We wish all of you a happy and safe Fourth of July holiday. It is a huge blessing to be able to call this country home and to enjoy the freedoms it offers.

We invite you to come to the Place this Sabbath and share a spirit filled time of praise and worship with us. This week we will celebrate the 4th of July together as Pastor Simon continue his series on Meeting Jesus with a sermon titled "Free...Like Him" which will focus on Matthew 10, verses 1-20. We look forward to having Randall Goulard lead us in praise and worship as well as special musical tribute by Randy Aybar and a monologue by Mirage Thrams.

We invite you to Sabbath School this Sabbath at 10:30 a.m. We have classes for all ages...from Cradle Roll, Kindergarten, Primary, Junior/Earliteen, Youth, Collegiate/Young Adult and an Adult class with Rob Randall leading.

Fourth Of July BBQ-This Sabbath
In honor of Independence Day, the Figueroa family will be hosting a BBQ luncheon at their home in Simi Valley following our church service. If you would like to come, we invite you to please bring something you would like to barbecue as well as a side dish. Bring a swimsuit too as there will be swimming if you like. The Figueroas are located at 1693 Bonita Ave in Simi Valley (805-304-2154.)

Fourth of July Concert @ The Hollywood Bowl-This Saturday Night

We will be celebrating 4th of July in a very special way this Saturday night. A group from the Place will be going to the Hollywood Bowl's Fireworks Spectacular as well as seeing a performance featuring the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and John Fogerty beginning at 7:30 p.m. This year, 50 of us will be attending this fun filled evening. This event has been sold out, but stay tuned for other events, as there will be more to come!

Beach Vespers-Next Friday Night
Our next beach vespers is scheduled for NEXT Friday, July 10th. Please join us at Sycamore Cove starting at 6 p.m. for a picnic, a beautiful sunset, and praise and worship. We invite you to bring a dish to share if you can.

We will have several play dates, field trips to swimming pools, the beach, and the zoo. And, of course there will also be an opportunity for mommies to get together alone without children and have fun! We hope that you will take part in this ministry as it is always a blessing to have other mothers to fellowship with. This Week at The Place

We invite you to The Place this Sabbath. We look forward to seeing those of you we know as well as welcoming those of you who will be visiting us. We hope you will come and worship with us. This week Pastor Steve will be preaching at The Place. Pastor Steve's sermon is titled "He Has Shown You..." and will focus on Micah 6, verses 1-8. We look forward to having Randall Goulard lead us in praise and worship. Please stay and fellowship with us after services this Sabbath as the cafe will be open with snacks and refreshments.

We will also be saying a very sad farewell to the Faka family as this will be their last Sabbath with us before they return to Australia. We will miss them much!

Fourth of July Concert @ The Hollywood Bowl

Summer is around the corner and that means that we will be once again attending the Hollywood Bowl's Fireworks Spectacular on 4th of July as a group. Tickets have been purchased for Saturday evening's (7/4) performance featuring John Fogerty beginning at 7:30 p.m. Adult ticket prices are $20, children 2-12 are $10. Please sign up at The Place if you are interested in going or contact Pastor Simon, we still have tickets left. It will be a great time together!

Financial Update for May
We continue to be blessed by your faithfulness in these tough economic times. In May we received $15,300 in giving to our local church budget at The Place. (Our budget is about $16,500 a month.) That gives us a total of about $59,700 in giving to The Place for 2009 so far. We also received $21,473 in tithe which goes to the So. Cal. Conf. in May. This gives us a total of $92,570 for the year so far. Thanks so much for your faithfulness. We continue to hear incredible testimonies about God has blessed you as you have been faithful in returning your tithes and offerings! Praise God...and thanks for sharing! This Week at The Place-Happy Father's Day

We invite you to The Place this Sabbath as we will be celebrating Sabbath together. We wish all of the Dads a wonderful Father's Day, and we hope that you are able to spend time among your family members and loved ones.

This week Pastor Simon will continue his series on Meeting Jesus with his sermon titled "Seeing Jesus" that will focus on Matthew 9. We look forward to having Pastor Steve lead us in praise and worship. Randall Goulard will have a special song for us. We will also be welcoming Andrea Stout into membership this Sabbath as she will be baptized this Sabbath afternoon.

We invite you to Sabbath School this Sabbath at 10:30 a.m. We have classes for all ages...from Cradle Roll, Kindergarten, Primary, Junior/Earliteen, Youth, Collegiate/Young Adult and an Adult class with Rob Randall leading.

And, Pastor Simon continues his new class on doctrine/baptismat 10:30 a.m. This is the LAST Sabbath to join in this class which runs during the summer.

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath

Bowling This Saturday Evening

You are all invited to come bowling with us this coming Saturday night, June 20th.

Mission Trip 2009

Also, the people at our SDA high school in Lautoka, Fiji where we are going to be working on the boys and girls dorms have some requests. They NEED: used laptops; any kind of chairs - plastic, folding, etc.; refrigerators; tools of any kind (if electric, however, must be 240 volt!) There will be a container shipped June 26 to Fiji. So, if you can donate any of these items, please contact Pastor Simon asap as we need to give the items THIS WEEK!

Also, Solomon Faka and his family are moving back to Australia in July. They have some electronics they need to sell before they go (by this weekend)...and will DONATE ALL THE PROCEEDS to our Fiji Mission!! So, if you are interested in the following, please give Solomon a call at 310-498-5554. All reasonable offers welcome:

That gives us a total of about $59,700 in giving to The Place for 2009 so far. We also received $21,473 in tithe which goes to the So. Cal. Conf. in May. We're going to be providing opportunities in the near future for those who would like to continue growing as church musicians. We'll hold some jam sessions and opportunities to learn new songs, video workshops taught by some of the best christian artists out there, and early practices on Monday nights for those who CHOOSE to learn the music earlier than Sabbath morning. keep an eye out for news on these things coming up.

There's also going to be a worship conference happening in Anaheim August 21-22 that Pastor Steve would like to take a group to attend. The cost is $89 if purchased before June 26. This Week at The Place

We invite you to The Place this Sabbath as we will be celebrating Sabbath together. This week Pastor Simon will continue his series on Meeting Jesus with his sermon titled "Crazy Prayers" that will focus on Matthew 8. We look forward to having Pastor Steve lead us in praise and worship as well as special music by Tega Faka. We invite you to stay for snacks and refreshments following church services as the cafe will be open.

We will also have Children's Church this coming Sabbath. Bring your child to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 for an hour of Bible story, music, and crafts or games.

We invite you to Sabbath School this Sabbath at 10:30 a.m. We have classes for all ages...from Cradle Roll, Kindergarten, Primary, Junior/Earliteen, Youth, Collegiate/Young Adult and an Adult class with Rob Randall leading.

Beach Vespers this Friday Night
We invite everyone to our BEACH VESPERS THIS FRIDAY night, June 12th at our usual spot, Sycamore Cove. Please join us starting at 6 p.m. for time in the Word, worship and praise, and a hot dog dinner. You are also welcome to bring beach type food to share.

Our mission trip this year is in Fiji from July 14-28. The tickets have been purchased. We ask for your prayers for the 35 volunteers who will be going. Also, if you would like to help support some of our young people financially, please feel free to mark your tithe envelope, "Fiji Mission." Thanks for your prayers and support. Also, the people at our SDA high school in Lautoka, Fiji where we are going to be working on the boys and girls dorms have some requests. They NEED: used laptops; any kind of chairs - plastic, folding, etc.; refrigerators; tools of any kind (if electric, however, must be 240 volt!) There will be a container shipped June 26 to Fiji. So, if you can donate any of these items, please contact Pastor Simon asap.

Also, Solomon Faka and his family are moving back to Australia in July. They have some electronics they need to sell before they go...and will DONATE ALL THE PROCEEDS to our Fiji Mission!! Community Service-Takin' It To The Streets Weekend - THANKS

Thank you to everyone who participated in our service weekend projects on June 6
and 7. Your gift of time and service was a real blessing to the seniors and staff at TO Health Care and Tender Life Maternity Home. We will never know how much a simple smile or act of service will do to bring others to an awareness of the love of Jesus.

Volleyball This Saturday Night

The NPAA gym will be open at 8:00PM this Saturday night for volleyball. Bring your volleyball friends, so we can have the opportunity to get to know them and have a good and friendly Christian environment. The plan is to let the younger people (11 & up) play with us during the first hour- 8:00PM to 9:00PM and after that we can play harder.

Bowling - NEXT Saturday night - June 20th
We will be bowling next Sat. Nt., June 20th, at Harley's Bowl in Simi Valley at 7:30 p.m. Cost is only $5 per person! Sign up at The Place this Sabbath or contact Jona Cooke for more details.

Summer is around the corner and that means that we will be once again attending the Hollywood Bowl's Fireworks Spectacular on 4th of July as a group. Visitor Luncheon This Sabbath
We invite our visitors and new members to our visitor luncheon this Sabbath, June 6th following church services. This month's hosts are Deane and Elvina Wolcott. This luncheon is for intended for visitors and new members to become better acquainted with other members of the Place. Taking It To The Streets Community Service This Sabbath & Sunday
This Sabbath we will meet at TO Health Care Nursing Home at 2:00 PM. The address is 93 W. Avenida De Los Arboles in T.O. It’s a fun afternoon patio party with lots of activities to choose from as we socialize with the seniors.

Sunday, June 7, 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. meet at Tender Life Maternity Home in Ventura. The address is 871 E. Thompson Blvd. Bring your work gloves and tools for outside yard and house maintenance. We plan on having a great time as we work together in service to others. Please pray that we will have a positive impact on those we will be serving as we demonstrate God’s love through service.

Also, Tender Life could use some outside/patio furniture if you have some to donate.

Beach Vespers Next Friday
Our next beach vespers is scheduled for next Friday evening, June 12th. We will meet at our usual venue of Sycamore Cove at 6 p.m. A hot dog dinner and snacks will be provided as well as worship. Join us for a beautiful night of fellowship and bring a dish to share if you are able.

Financial Update - April
We received $15,107 in tithe during April, giving us a total of $71,097 for the year. We also received $10,950 in giving to The Place...for a total of $42,618 for the year. As a reminder, all tithe goes to the So. Cal. Conference and we thank you for your faithfulness. BUT, we need help with our local church giving. We are about $24,000 behind our expenses for the year so far. Please remember The Place as you return your tithes and offerings to God.

We are excited to be hosting Vacation Bible School this summer, July 20-24th from 6-8 p.m. It will be at CAES and will be the Crocodile Cafe theme. Debbie Moon, Jona Cooke and Jennifer Lew will be leading out, but need lots of help. Please talk to one of them if you are interested.

Financial Update - April
We received $15,107 in tithe during April, giving us a total of $71,097 for the year. We also received $10,950 in giving to The Place...for a total of $42,618 for the year. As a reminder, all tithe goes to the So. Cal. Conference and we thank you for your faithfulness. BUT, we need help with our local church giving. We are about $24,000 behind our expenses for the year so far. Please remember The Place as you return your tithes and offerings to God.

This Week at The Place - Camping. NO CHURCH at THE PLACE. Sabbath School and church at Sycamore Canyon!

We look forward to seeing you and worshiping with you this coming Sabbath. This week
we will have our 2nd annual Place Camping Trip. We will be camping at Sycamore Canyon starting this Friday through Sunday, May 15-17. The cost will be $8 per person or $20 for a family for camping.

We will NOT be having regular Sabbath School or church services this Sabbath as this is a WHOLE CHURCH CAMPING TRIP! So, please plan on coming out and sharing that time together! WE WILL HAVE ONE ADULT S.S. CLASS AND ONE CRADLE ROLL S.S. at THE PLACE. Everything else will be at Sycamore Canyon, so even if you are not camping, we invite you to come and share in Sabbath School and Church together...and stay for LUNCH!

Pastor Simon will be leading out our weekend as we focus on Matthew 6 and The Lord's Prayer as we ask Jesus to "teach us to pray." Pastor Steve will be leading worship. We will be having haystacks for lunch on Sabbath and invite you to share with us! On Sabbath afternoon, we will be hiking and enjoying nature. Then, we will have vespers on Saturday evening followed by games around the firepit.

DIRECTIONS: take 101 north and Las Posas west to PCH...go south on PCH about 6 miles and Sycamore Canyon is on your LEFT. If you are just coming for the day on Sabbath, you may park at Sycamore Canyon day parking or at Sycamore Cove and walk across the street. Parking is $10 a day.

Friday Night Vespers - THIS FRIDAY and baptisms
There will be a beach vespers at Sycamore Cove to kick off our second annual church wide camping trip this Friday, May 15th. This will be a very special night complete with the baptisms of 9 of our high school students, worship, fellowship, and of course, food. Please plan on joining us starting at 6 p.m. We will be having our beach fare of hot dogs, etc. So, if you can bring a dish to share, please do so.

Baptisms
We are excited to welcome our new members who are being baptized this coming weekend. They include Tega Faka; Jill Richards; Lindsey Van Blargen; Brenda Wells; Dulcie Adhiambo and Josh Rasmussen. Others being baptized from NPAA include Stephanie Blow and Erin Burke. Melissa Sierra and Alyssa Doyle are also recommitting their lives to Jesus in baptism. Courtney Crook is also being baptized this Friday night at Walla Walla College. We want to wish these young people all God's blessings and we look forward to having them as part of the body of Christ.

Baby Shower
We will be having a baby shower for some ladies from Tender Life on May 31st at 10:00 a.m. Please save the date as we will be showering these ladies with love and gifts for their little ones at Edna Bachmann's home in Westlake. More details to follow.

July 4th Concert at Hollywood Bowl
Summer is around the corner and that means that we will be once again attending the Hollywood Bowl's Fireworks Spectacular on 4th of July as a group. Tickets have been purchased for Saturday evening's (7/4) performance featuring John Fogerty beginning at 7:30 p.m. Adult ticket prices are $20, children 2-12 are $10. This Week at The Place - Happy Mothers Day

The sermon is titled "Better than mom?" as we look at Jesus' call in the "mother" of all sermons. We look forward to having Chad Reisser lead us in worship, as well as special music by the Conejo Adventist Elementary School choirs.

We also invite you to Sabbath school starting at 10:30 a.m. We have the full range of classes from cradle roll class to adult classes...including our new collegiate/young adult class. We have something for everyone! We hope you’ll stop by and be blessed.

Tools For Tough Times Seminar- concludes Next Monday

Our Tools for Tough Times Seminar will conclude next Monday (May 4th) at 7:30 p.m. at The Place.

Pastor Simon will share Biblical principles about how to have peace in your life...even during difficult economic times. He will focus on David's words in Psalm 50:7-12 that God owns the earth and everything in it. When we believe that our Heavenly Father owns all the "stuff" in this world, it allows us to live differently. We can learn not to worry, but instead to be happy. Pastor Simon will share how learning to believe and live like our Father owns it all, allows us to live differently...to hold on loosely to things, to be generous, to have peace and not to worry about what others think.

Our first beach vespers of the summer is scheduled for THIS Friday evening, April 24th. Tools For Tough Times Seminar- Continues Next Monday

Our Tools for Tough Times Seminar continues next Monday (April 27th) at 7:30 p.m. at The Place. Next week's topic is “Dealing With Emotions When In Crisis” presented by Dr. Deane Wolcott. Check out all the details of this seminar and the upcoming ones at www.toolsfortoughtimes.theplacechurch.com. Everyone is invited…come and bring a friend! Dr. Wolcott will examine how we all respond to significant stress, including the physical, psychological, cognitive (thinking), emotional, behavioral, and social-relationship impact of stress. How can we can tell if our responses to stress are helpful or unhelpful? What are the specific psychological aspects of this period of major economic downturn in the US? Dr. Wolcott will help attendees understand when we need help coping with the stresses of the downturn and what kinds of help are available. He'll also discuss when to consider formal counseling and therapy and when to consider medications to help cope with insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Deane Wolcott is Vice President, Clinical Program Development for Aptium Oncology. He is also Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the Geffen-UCLA School of Medicine and Attending Psychiatrist, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Wolcott specializes in the psychiatric care of patients with serious medical illnesses, with a special emphasis on patients with cancer and with cancer-related pain.

Community Service Car Wash THIS Sunday

Service For Donna Hazzard (Rovetti)

We are sad to announce that Donna (Rovetti) Hazzard passed away in her sleep Tuesday night, April 14th. Please remember Cecil and Donna’s children and extended family in your prayers. A memorial service will take place at the Thousand Oaks Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sabbath afternoon, May 2, at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.

This Week at The Place

Tools For Tough Times Seminar- Continues This Monday
Our Tools for Tough Times Seminar continues THIS Monday (April 20) at 7:30 p.m. at The Place. Next week's topic is “Community Services That Are Available.” Many social service, health and disability agencies are available right here in our community to help lighten the load when we need it. Joelle Vessells and Virginia Wells will be offering suggestions on how to find and access resources that you may need when confronted by the effects of economic challenges.

Joelle Vessels, a licensed Marriage Family Therapist is the Director of Mental Health Services for Interface Children Family Services. Virginia Wells is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker director of Youth and Family Strengthening Services at Interface Children Family Services. Interface Children Family Services is an independent nonprofit agency dedicated to advancing the well-being of children by providing an array of social services to strengthen family life by promoting community commitment to the needs of children. Interface offers services in 5 specific program areas including Child Abuse Prevention, Youth and Family Strengthening, Mental Health, Family Violence Intervention and Strategies Family Support. In addition to the above 5 program areas, Interface provides 2-1-1 Ventura County, the only 24-hour county-wide comprehensive information and referral service which is maintained in a continuous update mode and covers issues ranging from child care, senior services, affordable housing to crisis intervention.

Tools For Tough Times Seminar- Continues This Monday
Our Tools for Tough Times Seminar continues THIS Monday (April 13) at 7:30 p.m. at The Place with Jerry and Kitty Bokoles. They share about “Maintaining key relationships when in crisis.” Healthy relationships bring happiness and health to our lives. Studies show that people with healthy relationships really do have more happiness and less stress. There are basic ways to make relationships healthy, even though each one is different…parents, siblings, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, professors, roommates, and classmates. Dr. Jerry Bokoles has his doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He has had a private practice in Ventura for 20 years. Until this past summer, he was Director of the Counseling Center at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. Placers Hold Off Rally

The Placers softball team buried Sanchez Excavation 24-21 & knocked off an undefeated team in the process. Patience at the plate unearthed Sanchez’s pitching weaknesses. The Placers led most of the game & held off a last inning rally to seal the victory. Victoria Olsen made a great catch to end an inning. Andrea Harlan hit a screaming line drive. Sandy Werner went 5-6, scoring 4 times. Glen Nelson added 3 runs. Chase Spenst batted a perfect 5-5, while Steve Carlson & Bill Werner were on base every at-bat. And Robin Shea scored more times than this reporter can count. The Placers’ next game is Sunday, April 26.

Picnic @ The Park This Sabbath & Farewell to the Jackson's
We invite you to come and spend time together after church this Sabbath for a picnic at Lakeside Park (right behind T.O. Library off Janss Road - 23 north - exit Janss and turn right, library is immediately on left.) We will spend time eating together and sharing the afternoon. This will be Brad, Karen, Kaden and Karter Jackson's LAST Sabbath at The Place. They are moving back to Arizona next week. Tools For Tough Times Continues This Monday - Switching Careers
Our Tools For Tough Times Seminar continues THIS Monday night (April 6th) at 7:30 p.m. at The Place with Dr. Kitty Bokoles as she discusses "Switching Careers." Making a big career change isn't easy, especially if you've got kids to support, a mortgage to pay, and a car to worry about. Kitty Bokoles is a senior human resources generalist with The Boeing Company. She has a doctorate in organizational management. Her human resources experience spans 25 years and includes organizational training and development, individual and organizational skills assessment and career coaching. Kitty will be presenting transition strategies for anyone thinking about changing careers including identifying transferable skills, researching companies, and networking.

New Collegiate/Young Adult Sabbath School

Running Club This Sunday

It's very easy to forget about our college students as they are away from us for such a long time. Next week Pastor Steve will be sending our college kids at Walla Walla College "envelopes" with small tokens of our love included. He will have these envelopes @ church THIS Sabbath for you to join in this endeavor if you would like. He is including itunes gift cards, and cards from the church. if you would like to include, money, notes of love, or small pets in these envelopes, please bring them to church and join the fun. We have just begun our new year, but are already far behind our church budget. In February, we received $12,155 for tithe, and $5,975 in local giving. That gives us a total of $29,968 in tithe for 2009 and $19,700 in local giving for 2009 (to The Place directly and for our use to pay our church expenses.) Our church budget is about $16,000 a month, so you can see our need. We recognize these are difficult times and thank you for your continued support or our church.

Men's Ministry Retreat

April 3-5 – 2009 SCC Men’s Ministry Retreat. Men’s Ministries leaders and groups from every conference and region are invited to this Spirit-filled ninth annual retreat. Memorial Services For Devon Becker
We are said to announce that Devon Becker passed away very unexpectedly this last Sunday, March 22d. There will be a memorial service for Devon THIS Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 pm. The service will be at the Dreamers Dream Paddle Boats at Ventura Harbor . Immediately following the service there will be a complimentary dinner at a nearby Greek restaurant held in Devon 's honor. The service and dinner are open to all who knew and loved Devon .

There will be a 2nd memorial service Easter weekend in Devon’s hometown of Keene, Texas . The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Devon Becker Worthy Camper Fund. Donations can be sent to: Nosoca Pine Ranch, Box 200, Liberty Hill , SC 29074. We ask your continued prayers on Devon's family.

Food Drive-This Sabbath
This Sabbath, March 21st, we are having a food drive. After the holidays, there are less food donations, but not less need. We will be donating the food to Ventura County Food Share. There has been a rise in the number of families that are in need of food in Ventura County. Every month the Ventura County Food Share provides meals to children, families and the elderly. They especially need Peanut Butter and Tuna, but would appreciate any food donation. If you have a donation, please place it in the box marked "food drive". Thanks for your generosity.

Easter Services - April 11-12
Easter is coming soon and we would like to invite you to start thinking about who you can invite to come and join us. We will be having an awesome Easter program on Sabbath, April 11th at The Place with music, drama and dance. Then, we will have our Sunday 'sunrise' service at 9:00 a.m. at Dos Vientos Park. There we will share in breakfast together and celebrate the risen Jesus. Please plan on joining us along with family and friends.

Church Camping Trip - Sycamore Canyon - May 15-17th
Our 2d annual Place Camping Trip is coming up. This year we will be camping at Sycamore Canyon (yes, close!) on Friday - Sunday, May 15-17. The cost will be $8 per person or $20 for a family. We will have a sign up sheet at The Place this Sabbath as we start planning for this time of fellowship, fun and spiritual growth. Once again, we will NOT be having regular church services that Sabbath as this is a WHOLE CHURCH CAMPING TRIP! So, please plan on coming out and sharing that time together!

Tools For Tough Times Seminar-Continues This Monday
Our Tools For Tough Times Seminar continues next Monday night at The Place at 7:30p.m. with Andrea Harlan and Sarita Macalinao. This week's seminar is titled "The Basics of the Short Sale" and is designed for home owners who can no longer keep up with their monthly house payments. There are alternatives to bankruptcy or foreclosure proceedings. One of those options is called a "short sale." When lenders agree to do a short sale, they accept less than the total amount due. Not all lenders will accept short sales or discounted payoffs, especially if it would make more financial sense to foreclose; moreover, not all sellers nor all properties qualify for short sales. On Monday evening, our local real estate experts will discuss the aspects of the buyer and seller sides of the short sale. Placers Softball News
In game that saw many lead changes, the Placers softball team battled long & hard as they dropped their home opener 13-9 to the Chestnuts. Chase Spenst pitched solidly and shined at the plate, going 3 for 3, in his debut. Defensive star Steve Carlson made a spectacular diving catch amongst many put outs, while Jerry Bokoles made multiple key snags at the hot corner. The plate was lit up by doubles from Danielle Peabody & Robin Shea, and Fred Harlan’s triple in the last frame. The Placers look to begin a winning streak when they take the diamond again this Sunday at 8:45 p.m. at Borchard Park.

Congratulations To The New Parents
We are so happy to announce that there were two babies born to Place mommies in the last week.

Jodi Ramirez delivered Landon James on March 5th. Landon weighed in at 7lbs 2 oz and was 21 inches long. Both mommy and baby are doing well. We will be starting a meal service for Jodi in the next week. If you would like to take Jodi a meal, please contact Cecilia at 310-699-3521.

And, David and Joanne Park welcomed their son, Griffin William Park last Sunday, March 8th. Little Griffin weighed in at 6lbs 6 0z and was 20" long. Both Griffin and mommy are doing very well. There will not be a meal sign up as the Parks live in Glendale. However, if you are interested in having any food delivered to them, they would be very appreciative. The Parks are not vegetarians and their address is 1530 Cleveland Road in Glendale, phone #818-547-2656.

Solar Panels/ AIDS Clinic in Africa
Frank Fulghum has a friend by the name of Frank Musisi who runs an HIV/AIDS clinic in Uganda, Africa. They are currently in need of 4 solar energy panels to be able to supply electricity to power a refrigerator so that AIDS medication can be kept refrigerated. It will spoil otherwise. Just 10 cents worth of medicine per day is all it takes to treat an AIDS victim, but without refrigeration, medicine cannot be kept nor used. The total cost is around $4000. Solar Panels/ AIDS Clinic in Africa
Frank Fulghum has a friend by the name of Frank Musisi who runs an HIV/AIDS clinic in Uganda, Africa. They are currently in need of 4 solar energy panels to be able to supply electricity to power a refrigerator so that AIDS medication can be kept refrigerated. It will spoil otherwise. Just 10 cents worth of medicine per day is all it takes to treat an AIDS victim, but without refrigeration, medicine cannot be kept nor used. The total cost is around $4000. The Place will be hosting 11 seminars on how to deal with the troubled times many are currently dealing with. Beginning on Monday, February 23rd and for 10 consecutive Mondays afterwards, there will be seminars focused on investment, real estate and foreclosure, mental health, finding a new job, switching careers, and spiritual perspectives. The speakers are leading professionals in the industry. David Park will be leading the out this Monday with "How to survive financially in an Economic Crisis." We will grow together in developing skills for spiritual maturity, focusing on incorporating God's Word into our daily lives and moving into using our gifts to share our faith. March 5-7 will mark the first ever West Coast Worship Conference held at the Adventist Media Center in Simi Valley. There will be seminars, workshops, and worship experiences. Valentine Social This Sunday

Congrats To The New Parents

We are so happy to announce that Pastor Steve and Daisy had their baby boy last Sunday, February 8th. Ian Parker Carlson weighed in at 6lbs, 7 oz. and measured 18 inches. We look forward to meeting the new little Carlson very soon. And, if you would like to take or have meals delivered to the Carlson's, please contact Cecilia @ 310-699-3521 as we will begin meal service this Friday for two weeks.

Fiji Mission Trip

Our mission trip this year will be in Fiji from July 16-26. This project will include construction, evangelistic meetings, children's programs, and medical, dental and eye clinics. We have made our flight reservations and air tickets are 'only' going to be around $1100. The participation fee of $650 includes food, lodging and possibly a group excursion. Caleb Guevara is starting a new running ministry at The Place. This ministry will help individuals get trained to run the Disney half marathon in September. All who are interested will have a physical exam completed by a physician as well as an assessment completed by physical therapists. Tender Life Walk-A-Thon
Since 1985 Tender Life has been providing pregnant and parenting women with housing, prenatal health and growth opportunities that instill dignity and prepare women for a productive future. It is churches, individuals and fundraisers that make this possible. Our 10th annual walk-a-thon is March 14, 2009. RUNNING MINISTRY - interested?

Caleb Guevara is starting a new running ministry at The Place. If you are interested in training for a half-marathon or a full marathon, this is for you! There will be a daily running regimen prescribed for each runner and a run together on Sunday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in the Newbury Park/Westlake area. There will also be an initial assessment and flexibility evaluation; body fat analysis; gait and foot analysis and education on proper hydration and nutrition. Soul Sisters
Attention all ladies (in case you haven't seen the invitation), Eunice Lee has arranged for us to learn how to make sushi from a master. We've scheduled it for late morning THIS Sunday, Feb. 8. We'll start the class at 10:30. It'll go about two hours, and afterward, we'll eat all the good stuff we made. Fun! Cost for the class, including all the food and supplies, is $38 per person.

Fiji Mission Trip - We need a few more people
Our mission trip this year will be in Fiji from July 16-26. This project will include construction, evangelistic meetings, children's programs, and medical, dental and eye clinics. We have made our flight reservations and air tickets are 'only' going to be around $1100. The participation fee of $650 includes food, lodging and possibly a group excursion. The cost will be airfare plus the $650. Contact Pastor Simon if you are interested in participating. We are accepting $100 non-refundable deposits to hold your spot! Valentine's Day Social
Please save the date of Sunday, February 15th to celebrate Valentine's Day with your sweetheart and friends from the Place. Soul Sisters @ The Place
Attention all ladies (in case you haven't seen the invitation), Eunice Lee has arranged for us to learn how to make sushi from a master. We've scheduled it for late morning on Sunday, Feb. 8. We'll start the class at 10:30. It'll go about two hours, and afterward, we'll eat all the good stuff we made. Fun! Cost for the class, including all the food and supplies, is $38 per person.

So, if you haven't replied, please do as soon as possible. We'd like to get a head count so that we can reserve someone's kitchen and be sure it's big enough. NPAA Charity Basketball Game
On Thursday, Feb. 5th, the senior economics class at NPAA is hosting a charity basketball game at the NPAA Gym. NPAA will be playing basketball against Pilgrim with the girl's game at 4:30 p.m. and the boy's game at 6:00 p.m. There will be food booths and lots of fun. Tickets are $2...but feel free to donate to NPAA by providing food, money or time. All proceeds will benefit needed classroom improvements for teachers at NPAA. An ABC (Adventist Book Center) will be opening at Ventura church next month. The store, "Body and Soul Food" at the Ventura SDA Church will be located at 6300 Telephone Road. This is a "fully" stocked veggie food and Adventist Book Store. PUC Care Packages
Hello church family! In an effort to help our college students remember we haven't forgotten them, next week we will be putting together care packages for those attending Pacific Union College. The bags will be prepared NEXT SABBATH at church, and delivered to them the following weekend. Please bring whatever snacks, games, notes, college necessities, etc. you think they might appreciate to church NEXT WEEK. Don't underestimate how much they appreciate this. We have purchased tickets for the Newsboys concert scheduled for Saturday night, March 21st. The concert will be held at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $20. This Week at The Place

We look forward to seeing you and worshiping with you this coming Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will continue his new series on church and the environment. This week's sermon is titled "God is found in all His Creation" and focuses on Romans 1. We look forward to having Pastor Steve lead us in praise and worship and we also invite you to stay after church services as the cafe will be open. And, don't forget to bring your plants!

We also invite you to Sabbath school starting at 10:30 a.m. We have several classes ranging from cradle roll class to adult classes. We have something for everyone! We hope you’ll stop by and be blessed.

Our prayer committee meets every Sabbath morning starting at 9:45 a.m. to pray for individual as well as community needs. If you are interested, please join us this Sabbath.

Hike This Sabbath/Picnic Next Sabbath
We invite you to get outdoors and see God's creation! To help you out, we will be going on an afternoon hike this Sabbath (RAIN permitting). Please meet at 3:45 p.m. at the trail head of Wildwood Park. Directions from church...take 101 south, exit Lynn road go left (north), take a left on Avenida de los Arboles and go about 1 mile, when road curves right, the trail head parking is on left.

Then, NEXT Sabbath Afternoon - 1/31 - we invite you to come to church prepared for a PICNIC afterward at Lakeside park - bring a lunch and a ball, etc. Lakeside Park is right behind the T.O. library. Turn right on Janss Road off 23 north and it is immediately on your left.

Discipleship Class-Starts This Sabbath
There will be a discipleship class beginning this coming Sabbath, January 24th for four weeks. This class is designed for all new members and those individuals interested in getting involved in ministry. Elder Bill Werner will be leading out in this great opportunity for you to discover your purpose in ministry through understanding your spiritual gifts. If you have any further questions, please contact Pastor Simon. The class will meet at 10:30 a.m. during Sabbath School time.

Ice Skating Social This Saturday Night
The Place will have an ice skating social this coming Saturday evening, January 24th at Easy Street Arena in Simi Valley. Our social will go from 7:45-9:45 p.m. The cost is $8 admission + $3 skate rental. However, you may obtain a coupon for two for the price of one discount by logging on to their website www.iceoplexsimivalley.com. Easy Street Arena is located at 131 W. Easy St. Hope to see many of you there...and bring a jacket, it gets cold!

Super Bowl Party-Next Weekend
You are all invited to attend a Super Bowl Party next Sunday, February 1st @ Reiner & Jolene Roeske's home in Westlake Village. Mammoth Ski - Next Weekend
The Place is sponsoring a Mammoth Ski Trip the last weekend of January. It will be for 3 nights – Thursday – Saturday, Jan. 29-Feb. 1. There will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby this Sabbath. The TOTAL cost for skiing for 2 days AND the cabin is only $200!! If you are interested, please sign up ASAP so we can confirm the cabins. Monday Night Series "Tools For Troubled Times"
The Place will be hosting 10 seminars on how to deal with the troubled times many are currently dealing with. Beginning on Monday, February 23rd and for nine consecutive Mondays afterward, there will be seminars focused on investment, real estate and foreclosure, mental health, finding a new job, switching careers, and spiritual perspectives. The speakers are leading professionals in the industry. Shortly, we will have a web site with all the speakers and their topics.
