Suzuki's Helpful Tips on Cleaning Motorcycles Submerged in Flood -- How many of you with motorcycles and scooters, were affected by the recent floods brought about by the recent monsoon sweep or perhaps a regular typhoon in the past? You must be worried about cleaning your two-wheel rides after the unwanted submersion, so Suzuki is here to share with you some tips on how to treat your bikes and scooters after being submerged in the flood waters.

Tips on Cleaning Motorcycles / Scooters Submerged in Flood:

Turn the ignition OFF.
Remove spark plug/s then kick-start to remove the water secreted in the combustion chamber.
Clean the motorcycle / scooter with pressurized clear running water. If the unit was submerged in seawater flood, wash and lurbicate the machine with anti-rust as soon as possible.
Drain the oil (Remove the drain plug and engine oil cap)
Spray the oil filler hole with compressed air - to push the oil and water inside the crankcase.
Replace oil and oil filter. If you got a Suzuki unit, use Suzuki Genuine Oil and Suzuki Genuine Oil Filter.
Clean and dry the wire harnesses. Check the connectors for dirt and or mud deposits.
Inspect the electrical parts of the machine such as: CDI, Ignition Coil, Ignition Switch, Relays, Bulbs and Sockets, Speedometer panel assembly and the battery)
Dismount the air box and carburetor. Clean the air box assembly and if possible, replace the air filter.
Overhaul the carburetor. Clean the jets - air holes and the gas passage.
Drain the gas tank. Check for possible water contamination or maybe foreign objects taken in, during the flood submersion.
Clean and lubricate the throttle grip and its cable, clutch and brake cables, as well as the starter cable.
Clean the braking systems.
Re-grease the wheel bearings.
Detach and dry the muffler / pipe.
Inspect if the steering stem still has the applied grease. Re-apply if necessary.

For scooters submerged in the flood: Check the gear and CVT box, inspect the CVT rollers and belt for possible rusting. Replace roller weights and belt if necessary.

That is all, basically for the things that most of us bikers / scootersists can do without experts interventions.

Bear in mind to dispose of the used oil after the overhaul you will be doing. For better and safer running condition of your bikes, make sure to have your ride checked by an accredited mechanic.

RYNO Unicycle Electric Scooter Coming in 2013? This futuristic electric scooter has been featured in "The Future of Things (TFOT)" on May 8, wherein a 13 year old daughter asked her father to make one of such unique scooter bike which she saw in a video game. Since her father (Chris Hoffmann) is a mechanical engineer by profession and practice, Mr. Hoffman decided to make it a go.

The main idea behind RYNO Unicycle Electric Scooter is that, it's a single-wheeled motor vehicle equipped with all the operating mechanisms that can be found in a regular scooter machine. It has braking system, acceleration control, steering and such.

The struggle of Hoffman was not without problems at the initial phase. Though he already worked for 5 years in the auto industry, his RYNO Unicycle Electric Scooter prototype was hard to control and the steering was a bit awkward. However, along the way, Hoffman met another engineer named Tony Ozrelic - the person who helped him add a software in order to control the forward motion and braking of the unicycle scooter. This was the start of the many progresses in the development of RYNO scooter.

The first design for the RYNO (Rip You a New One) Unicycle Electric Scooter was to be able to reach a top speed of 25 MPH but through some inputs from colleagues around, Hoffman decided to limit the speed to about 12.5 MPH for basic city streets navigation.

The Battle With Philippine Administrative Order AHS-2008-015

Few months ago, the Philippine motorcycling community went into commotion when the controversial Administrative Order/AO AHS-2008-015 surfaced out, with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as its main proponent. The AO AHS-2008-015, dubbed as the “RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE USE AND OPERATION OF MOTORCYCLES ON HIGHWAYS”, in general states that no modification shall be made to motorcycles or scooters unless approved by the LTO and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Whereby, the 2 wheels riding public of the Philippines, spearheaded by the Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO) came out to parade a series of appeals to reconsider AO AHS-2008-015. Aside from being too impractical, the said AO did not go through any consultations with the motorcycling community.

Following this was a workshop between the MRO and LTO, wherein a not-so-palatable incident happened. Then on September 26, the MRO led a massive information campaign/drive concerning the issues pertaining to AO AHS-2008-015. There was media coverage where some issues and concerns were raised successfully. Then, a relief came up when the LTO agreed to re-open its door and sit down for the next round of discussion. Some minute details covered in the AO AHS-2008-015 concerning motorcycling and motorcycles/scooters were dissected one by one.

Guess what came up next! A memo to amend the LTO's AO AHS-2008-015. This was achieved through series of consultations between the AO proponents and the motorcycling community. The general population of 2 wheel riders, motorcycle/biker/scooter communities, as well as virtual groups in the motorcyclephilippines.com were also among the big components that played crucial role in the achievement of this success.
