We know you’ll enjoy the new “Word of God” music video and appreciate Brenton’s passion for God’s Word. We have invited Brenton to guest post today and share the story behind the song.

So, with no further delay … here’s Brenton Brown! 

I’m super excited about this song, “Word of God.”

I wrote it with a good friend, Andy Rozier. We noticed that there weren’t too many songs in the modern hymnal that spoke about the Scripture, or spoke about the mystery of Jesus being the Word of God, the living Word of God. We were thinking, Man, we need to contribute to that; we need to get involved and maybe just highlight this mystery.

The Word is important to Him. We wanted to highlight that …

It’s so interesting that on the road to Emmaus, one of the first things Jesus did after the resurrection was expound the Scriptures. This is how He works; words are important to Him. The Word is important to Him. We wanted to highlight that, to kind of underline that, and say, “This is a big deal. This is part of what being a Christian is. Paying attention to God’s Word. Paying attention to the Word that He speaks.”

This is the magnificent truth of the Gospel, that all the hope we have in Christ is real, it’s true. We’ve set our feet on solid ground. He is the ground beneath our feet. And His Word is what sustains us. His Word is what made us. His Word is what will keep us. His Word is what called us into faith with Him, called us into relationship with Him. His Word is what will sustain that relationship and will keep us through all the valleys and all the high points that we go through in life.

In June of 2012, the Gamo people got the Bible translated into their language for the first time. It’s very hard not to see that and be stirred, and inspired, and just awakened again by the beauty and the hope that the Gospel brings to us.

There’s no mistaking that kind of joy…

What you get to see in this video, as this music plays, is a people group getting to hear God speak through Scriptures for the first time. There’s no mistaking that kind of joy, that acknowledgement of the ring of heaven, the authority of heaven, coming through in the story. And then just the hope — not only that what is being said is true, but that God knows us! He knows who we are and He’s addressing us right now! That’s the excitement, that’s the thrill of being a Christian, just sharing this Good News. And that’s the excitement I think you see on the faces of the Gamo people as the song plays.

Today, over 350 million people, more than the population of the entire United States*, have no access to God’s Word in their own language. That’s Bible poverty. But you can help to change that. Join the movement to bring God’s Word to the last remaining Bibleless people. God has called churches, families, individuals everywhere to help complete this critical part of the Great Commission.

*Since the recording of this interview, this number has dropped considerably. Praise God! Based on the most recent data, this number is closer to 200 million people that are still without access to any Scripture in their own language.

The Resurrection

{John 20: 1-10}

Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.

Shouldn’t everyone have an opportunity to read the RESURRECTION account above?

Most can because the WORD of God is available in their heart language.

Still, there are many needing HIS Word in a language they can read and understand.

John 19:17-37 (MSG)

Pilate caved in to their demand. He turned him over to be crucified.

The Crucifixion

They took Jesus away. Carrying his cross, Jesus went out to the place called Skull Hill (the name in Hebrew is Golgotha), where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, Jesus in the middle. Pilate wrote a sign and had it placed on the cross. It read:

JESUS THE NAZARENE

THE KING OF THE JEWS

Many of the Jews read the sign because the place where Jesus was crucified was right next to the city. It was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The Jewish high priests objected. “Don’t write,” they said to Pilate, “‘The King of the Jews.’ Make it, ‘This man said, “I am the King of the Jews.”’”

Pilate said, “What I’ve written, I’ve written.”

When they crucified him, the Roman soldiers took his clothes and divided them up four ways, to each soldier a fourth. But his robe was seamless, a single piece of weaving, so they said to each other, “Let’s not tear it up. Let’s throw dice to see who gets it.” This confirmed the Scripture that said, “They divided up my clothes among them and threw dice for my coat.” (The soldiers validated the Scriptures!)

While the soldiers were looking after themselves, Jesus’ mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.

Jesus, seeing that everything had been completed so that the Scripture record might also be complete, then said, “I’m thirsty.”

A jug of sour wine was standing by. Someone put a sponge soaked with the wine on a javelin and lifted it to his mouth. After he took the wine, Jesus said, “It’s done . . . complete.” Bowing his head, he offered up his spirit.

Then the Jews, since it was the day of Sabbath preparation, and so the bodies wouldn’t stay on the crosses over the Sabbath (it was a high holy day that year), petitioned Pilate that their legs be broken to speed death, and the bodies taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man crucified with Jesus, and then the other. When they got to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. One of the soldiers stabbed him in the side with his spear. Blood and water gushed out.

The eyewitness to these things has presented an accurate report. He saw it himself and is telling the truth so that you, also, will believe.

These things that happened confirmed the Scripture, “Not a bone in his body was broken,” and the other Scripture that reads, “They will stare at the one they pierced.”

Now, shouldn’t she have an opportunity to read the Good Friday :: Good News in her heart language?

God’s Word is ALIVE!

It’s powerful ~ powerful enough to change everything!

It changes lives, destinies and eternities.

Knowing many people world-wide still do not have God’s Word in their heart language is concerning.

The Seed Company is NOT OK with this.

As a result, we’re doing all we can to end Bible poverty.
