[TSISW] manages to be nautical miles better than many 'making-of' features Hollywood puts out as glorified advertising for its products. The appreciation these people have for Jaws is evident from the range and depth of material they cover and the professional way this documentary is put together. [It] should be the model for future documentary celebrations of great movies. Full Review

We've heard so many stories about the making of Jaws they've long since passed into movie lore, but this film goes so much further, exploring the long shadow the giant shark fin has cast over the world. This film celebrates the fans as much as the movie itself and is all the richer for it.

"...not just an exceptional documentary, it's one that I'm sure will become a classic. This is the kind of film that becomes a companion piece to the movie it's paying homage to, as well as a constant reference to those of us who worship Jaws. It's briskly paced, incredibly well executed with a depth and attention to detail you must see to believe. The Shark Is Still Working is the complete and total story of one of the most important movies in film history."

"…a movie that every self-respecting Jaws fan will want to get their hands on. Would I pay money for this as a standalone release? Absolutely. However, it also would make a great companion piece to a forthcoming Jaws Blu-ray release. Take note Universal: you've got a great tribute to a beloved film here. Keeping it from the fans would be a disservice to not only them, but also the legacy of this classic flick."

"What is most impressive about The Shark Is Still Working is the fact that it was a true labor of love, entirely funded and produced by a quartet of Jaws fans who wanted to make the ultimate documentary about their favorite film, and succeeded. Their film pulsates with the kind of admiration and genuine love for film that is all too often dismissed as overeager fanboy veneration and not recognized as the kind of passion that keeps art alive and kicking. ...and the best thing about The Shark Is Still Working is that it reminds us with startling clarity just what a unique achievement Jaws really was."

"THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING is clearly a labor of love for those who made it, and a total delight for those who see it. Seldom have I encountered a documentary that so meticulously and joyfully examines not only the nuts-and-bolts making of a beloved classic film, but also celebrates the stunning and lasting impact that that film has had on audiences (and filmmaking) the world over. This is a love letter not only to JAWS as a singular film experience, but to the idea of cinema itself -- a must-see for anybody who's ever been swept away by the flickering images in the dark, for all who love the movies."

"TSISW is as fascinating as it is thorough; a true love letter to a cultural phenomenon that has special significance to our family. Peter's legacy as a writer and an ocean conservationist is honored in this amazing documentary, as well as the many talented artists who brought Jaws to life on the silver screen. The passion and insight expressed throughout this work is evident from the very beginning. Engrossing and fun, The Shark is Still Working proves its thesis with amazing zeal."

"The Shark is Still Working is an exhaustive look at everything Jaws, something that hardcore fans will relish because it leaves no stone unturned in its quest to show why the film is so revered (it''s one of the few films to have a perfect 100% score on Rottentomatoes.com). Hollander and crew are not only talented filmmakers (which shines through repeatedly in the slick production) but also fans like the rest of us. Because of this, the film has a very personal and almost reverential tone. …essential viewing for Jaws fanatics and anyone interested in filmmaking in general."

"Take some amazingly rare footage, pepper the film with impossible interview "gets," and stir in a feverish adoration for the subject matter that goes to unheard of lengths for new information, and you have a film that speaks fluent geek and speaks it remarkably…an adrenaline rush of nostalgia and sloppy fanboy kisses that packs more historical perspective in its dorsal fin than most retrospectives spend a lifetime chasing. [TSISW ] isn't simply a love letter to Jaws it's a labyrinthine, kick-the-door-down tribute to a lifestyle and legacy that refuses to abandon its cultural seat."

Click here to read the full review.

"...By the time [TSISW] is done, you can't name a notable fan, cast member, or associated celebrity... that hasn't weighed in with a spirited offering. And that's the virtue of The Shark Is Still Working - it's a well-made film by a fan interviewing principals who are also fans, and the love that everyone involved still has for this is palpable and intoxicating... A documentary this well-done could certainly create genuine new fans and spark fresh (and well-deserved) interest in Jaws"

It held the entire family, not just my grandson Max (who's a shark fanatic)! No one would leave the room, and dinner was very late because we opted to finish your film instead! It is not like any I have have seen, and certainly does put a new perspective on the phenom. Much like James Bond. It does prove again, the importance of our books and films to all our lives. You have done an amazing job!"

I was totally blown away by The Shark is Still Working. The absolute best, most-comprehensive Jaws documentary out there. This basically ends the need for any more Jaws docs. This one has it all. Absolutely everything you'll want to possibly know about this remarkable film. And it's tight as hell. Brilliant job, guys. Maybe you can do a Blair Witch doc for us one day.

"An extremely well done documentary on the "back story" of the making of the Jaws movie with some very interesting comments by Peter Benchley and Steven Spielberg. The most fascinating disclosure being that the failure of the mechanical shark to perform in the earlier stages of filming required Spielberg to be innovative and film without actually showing the shark thus making the film much more terrifying... To see just how young Steven Spielberg was at the time was amazing and would have to be encouraging to the young would-be filmmakers of today. The Shark is Still Working is an entertaining and fascinating piece of work. ...extremely well done in terms of editing, dissolves, zooms and effects."

"TSISW is a gigantic valentine to the movie that made many of us love movies, and that love shines through in every frame. It's inarguably the most comprehensive study of the film (and its fans) ever compiled... Just about every cast member still alive give us classic anecdotes with a surprisingly fresh verve. It's a treasure trove... bound to make fans scream with delight. More than just some making-of fluff piece that might wind up as a DVD bonus feature, it is instead an exhaustive (yet never exhausting) look at Jaws through the ages."

"There's no question that this documentary is THE detailed account of the filming of Jaws that fans have been dreaming of for years. Typically, most viewers are treated to a 'making of' that rehashes the same small collection of photos or footage over and over again to stretch the tale. In effect, we get a two hour film with really only ten minutes of viewable material. But that is far from the case with The Shark is Still Working! ...The Jaws archives have been deeply exposed in a new and challenging way by the filmmakers, to bring all fans closer to the sets, artisans, actors and Bruce. As a Jaws insider, I felt I knew much of the story. This documentary put my memories to shame. The Shark is Still Working is a template for all documentarians who want to explore the bond between a film and its culture."

"...the most comprehensive 'making of' feature movie I have ever seen. There's not a stingray left unturned in this compelling documentary on the making of Jaws. I have read a lot about the movie over the years and I was astounded at the number of stories that I had never heard before. They need to be heard by all fans of the Jaws phenomenon. The best compliment I can give The Shark is Still Working is upon my finishing this two disk set I immediately popped Jaws in because I simply had to watch it again. The filmmakers have one of the rarest interviews I have ever seen with director Steven Spielberg and his honesty and personal tales about making the ultimate big fish movie were extremely impressive. Jaws changed movie making forever. It invented the idea of a 'summer movie.' This doc superbly tells the story of that cinematic event."

Damn impressive is what it really is, truth be told. The Shark Is Still Working has earned a spot in my collection right alongside my beloved Jaws DVD ... and that's saying something."

"A very thorough and engaging documentary. It emphasizes the iconic Jaws appeal for Universal Studios as did the iconic Creature from the Black Lagoon released some twenty years before.
Also, the film's haunting 2-note musical chords, warning of the impending danger, reminiscent of the signature three-note theme for Creature from the Black Lagoon. [TSISW] was wonderful and I learned a lot about the making of Jaws. Magnificent!!!"

With The Shark Is Still Working, the story is just beginning … and this is what makes [it] superior to other 'making of' films. … The makers of TSISW have given Jaws just the right amount of added boost to help sustain the film for at least the next 100 years. … On a scale of zero to four stars, I give The Shark Is Still Working ****."

"In many situations, red flags go up when I see projects about seminal films and franchises originating from the world of fandom. What is gained in passion is typically lost in perspective. The Shark is Still
Working not only satisfies as a superbly made and comprehensive look at the creation of one of
the best movies ever made, but as a genuine love note to the massive world born from Jaws, it
manages to rise above fandom into being something richer and more rewarding. I didn't think it was
possible to enhance the Jaws experience any more than it had already been over 30 years of
frenzied, bestial love for the world of Amity, but the boys behind The Shark is Still Working
 pulled it off."

I really had no idea how many people had contributed to making Jaws, and watching all the interviews, I felt like I was given the opportunity to meet with them for the first time. The documentary was put together so wonderfully. Getting to see all the Jaws fans and enthusiasts showing their love for

"Part of my job is being a horror movie know-it-all and when it came to one of my all time favorite films Jaws, I thought I had it covered. Well, I was wrong. I read all the books and had seen all the prior documentaries and The Shark is Still Working taught me things about this classic film that I had never known. Having spent three years working on the Halloween 25 Years of Terror documentary myself, I know the time, effort and work it takes to accomplish a project like this and they certainly outdid themselves."

The moment I heard of The Shark is Still Working, I knew these guys meant business! Every aspect is covered, anything you could possibly want to know about this movie …The real kicker is the producers of this documentary got a huge amount of never before seen behind the scenes stills and footage.
"It is not hyperbole to say The Shark is Still Working is the most important document of a Steven Spielberg film to come out since Laurent Bouzereau's landmark works on Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind back in the late 1990s. [It] is without a doubt one of the most comprehensive and indispensable works ever created to document one of Steven Spielberg's...films...an essential work that belongs in all Jaws fans' DVD libraries."

"I've been involved with many 'making of Jaws' documentaries in the past, but I must say I was truly fascinated with the approach the filmmakers took on this one that sets it apart from the rest. Not only does it cover the production stories of the film - which it does brilliantly - but it travels beyond that, into corners of the Jaws world I've never seen before. I was shocked to see how in-depth the documentary goes in portraying the Jaws fan base and the many ways the film has touched our culture. The Shark is Still Working is the complete expression of the Jaws phenomenon and I am very impressed. Great job, guys!"
