I often receive comments about my hair. "It's so fluffy." "It's so puffy." "It looks like cotton." My reply is "it's the signature look of a bichon frise."

To maintain my signature look requires daily brushing. Although I have several dog brushes, my favorite is one by Bamboo. It's actually an all-in-one slicker brush and two combs. Tucked conveniently on the sides of the brush are a flea comb and fine tooth comb. The fine tooth comb does double-duty as a tool to clean the brush.

The extra soft wire slicker bristles are perfect for my serious head of hair. I haven't got time for a wimpy brush. The handle is non-slip and cushioned for comfort. It's available in two sizes. The small version has a double brush; slicker one one side and bristle on the other.

My pick for this week is www.pawlux.com a website that celebrates eco-living. The mission of Paw Luxury is to offer luxury, high-quality, durable, holistic and earth-friendly products for the everyday dog and their owners.

The website offers a plethora of dog products including treats, apparel, toys, travel items, accessories, and more.

One of the cool features on the site is the ability to search for dog products by aliment/symptom (e.g. anxiety, dandruff, dirty ears, tear stains). In addition, you'll find videos on the site like the one for Happytails Sparkle & Shine Shimmering Mist. This product is touted as "perfect if your dog is heading for an Oscar Party or wants to make a memorable impression on that first date." It caught my owner's attention because the ingredients work to repel dust and dirt; I like for the glitter it adds to a dog's coat. Every girl needs a little glamour ... right?!

shay girl's dog product review: portable dog water bottle

It was about six years ago before leaving on a road trip to Chicago, my owner purchased the Handi Drink dog water bottle. It's a sport water bottle and compact water bowl all-in-one. I love it! It's a convenient way to have fresh, clean water anytime, anywhere. I take my dog water bottle to the park, on errands, and when visiting family and friends.

Some of the great things about this dog product:

Variety of colors (e.g. pink, blue, green) – the shay girl's is pink, of course!

Three sizes (mini, regular, jumbo)

Belt clip

Shoulder strap

The advertising claims it's portable and spill-proof. It's definitely portable, but not completely spill-proof. The automatic valve shut-off cap can leak, especially with regular and extended use. I would, however, recommend the Handi Drink dog water bottle with a couple of suggestions.

shay girl's tips:

If the original manufacture's cap begins to leak, replace it with a standard water bottle/sports bottle cap. You'll need to remove the cap to pour the water; however you won't have leaks.
Keep the water bottle filled and in the frig when not in use. That way, the water is good and cold when you're ready to use it.

I just discovered a fun place on the web called dogster.com. It's loaded with great stuff for dogs and their owners. I started my experience by creating a profile page complete with photos, a video, and interesting facts about me. Only seconds after I hit submit, I had two invitations to become pup pals from member of the dogster.com community. And I was delighted to accept. Thanks for the warm welcome!
