Owl Keychain

So I spent last week working on this adorable little guy!

And I'm so excited to tell you that the pattern is now available on Ravelry! The pattern posed no issues and worked up relatively quickly, even after testing it 3 different times.

You'll need a small amount of yarn in white plus 3 additional colors. Also, a size F/3.75MM crochet hook, scissors and an embroidery needle. I used 9MM and 12MM safety eyes on this project. The purple owl has the smaller 9MM eyes while the pink owl has the larger 12MM eyes. If your making this as a keychain, you'll need a keyfob of some sort, I used a regular keyring 1.25" wide and for the other one I used a lobster clasp fob. I also used solid rings for attaching to the project. I do not recommend split jump rings as the weight of the keys will pull it apart.

I can't give an exact timeframe on how long it takes to make one since I was interrupted by dogs needing to potty and laundry that needed washing and folding. We all get interrupted in our crafting time by one thing or another, don't we?

Baby Booties (Fireman/Galoshes)

So I made a fireman set (for a girl) for a friend that's about to be a grandma. The baby's daddy is a fireman and she wanted to gift the set to her daughter as a photo prop. I ordered a pattern from Ravelry and got busy making the set. I ran into a problem when I got to the booties because the pattern I purchased had stitch counts that were not adding up. I tried 15 times (no joke) to get those booties to work out following her directions and failed every time. Maybe it was just me, I don't know, but I think 15 times is a bit extreme even for me. Finally I gave up and made up my own pattern for the little suckers and that's what I'm posting today!

Aren't these just the cutest things! I love them!

And here's the set I finished for my friend. She absolutely loved it! I have to admit, it did turn out completely adorable! I can't wait to see pictures of the precious baby wearing them!

Granny Square Bookmark

I like books. Actual paper or cardboard books that I can hold in my hands. There's just something about holding a paper book that makes me happy. I do have several dozen books on Kindle that I read but I always prefer to hold a real book.

And I've used several things as bookmarks as well. From dollar bills to scraps of my store list to receipts to dog-earring the corners of the page. My preference? Crochet of course!

I have a couple of bookmarks available on the blog (here and here and here) and also available on Ravelry (here). But I'm making a new one and sharing it with you!

Granny Square Bookmark

Materials:

#10 crochet thread
size B/1-2.25MM crochet hook
scissors
embroidery needle for weaving in the ends

Stitches Used:

Double Crochet - DC
Chain - Ch
Slip Stitch - Sl St

Notes:
Chain 3 counts as first DC throughout pattern.
Weave in ends and cut tails at the end of each square.

Begin:

1st Granny SquareRow 1 - Ch 5 and join to form a circle, ch 3, 2 dc in circle, ch 2. *3 dc in circle, ch 2. Repeat from * two more times. Join to first dc with sl st, ch 3 and turn. (You should have 4 sets of 3dc and 4 sets of ch 2 spaces that make the corners of the square.)

Row 2 - 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch 2 space. Ch 1. *3dc, ch 2, 3dc, in ch 2 space, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to first dc with sl st, ch 3, turn.

Row 3 - 2 dc in ch 1 space, ch 1. *3dc, ch 2, 3dc in ch 2 space, ch 1. 3dc in ch 1 space, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to first dc with sl st. Secure and tie off, cut yarn.

Finished Square 1

Squares 2 - 5

Row 1 - Ch 5 and join to form a circle, ch 3, 2 dc in circle, ch 2. *3 dc in circle, ch 2. Repeat from * two more times. Join to first dc with sl st, ch 3 and turn.

Row 2 - 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch 2 space. Ch 1. *3dc, ch 2, 3dc in ch 2 space, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to first dc with sl st, ch 3, turn.

Row 3 - 2 dc in ch 1 space, ch 1. 3dc in ch 2 space.

ch 1, sl st to any ch 2 space of first square

(Put wrong sides together to make sure they look the same

throughout the pattern)

3dc in ch 2 space of the working square

ch 1, sl st to ch 1 space of first square

3dc in ch 1 space of working square

3dc in ch 2 space of working square

sl st to ch 2 space of first square

Finish square as noted for square one.

Connect 5 squares together and block using your preferred method. I use warm water to soak the piece and press the water out using paper towels (do not wring the crochet work, it pulls your stitches out of true shape).

Be sure to use stainless steel pins so you don't get any rust on your crochet work. You can use a foam mat like shown here (I think that's the letter N - lol) or you can use a folded towel as long as it will hold the shape you're trying to achieve. I've also used cardboard boxes but I place a paper towel under my work before pinning.

Let dry for 4 to 24 hours - the longer you let it dry the better shape you'll achieve. Once dry you've got a beautiful bookmark!

Easy Peasy Face Cloth

I thought I'd start with a simple pattern that's perfect for beginners and even the advanced crocheter that needs to make some stock for Craft Fairs. A soft but exfoliating cloth perfect for the daily facial routine. Made with 100% cotton (yarn weight 4) it's easy to use and easy to take care of! I wash mine with towels and washcloths, that's how easy they are to care for. This pattern is a quick one that works up without any fuss.

Easy Peasy Facecloth

Completed project measures 3” in diameter.

Materials:
            100% cotton yarn weight size 4 (brand and color of your choice)
            size J/10 – 6.00MM crochet hook
            scissors
            darning needle (for weaving in the ends)

Abbreviations and Stitches used:
            Magic Circle (you can use whichever circle starting method you prefer)
            Ch – Chain
            SC – Single Crochet
            SS – Slip Stitch

Notes:
Do not turn your work.

Piece is made in rounds with a joining at the end of each round.
            Join to the top of the first SC with a SS, not into the Ch 1 stitch.
            Ch 1 stitch is NOT a working stitch.
            Tails are woven in at the end of the project or can be worked

over as you stitch along.
Numbers in ( ) indicate the number of stitches in that round.

Pattern:

Round 1: Begin with a Magic Ring. 10 SC in ring. Join. Ch 1. (Tighten center of Magic Ring by pulling on the tail of the yarn.) (10)

Round 2: 1 SC in first stitch, 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. Ch 1. (15)

Round 3: 1 SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. Ch 1. (20)

Round 4: 1 SC in next 3 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch. Repeat around. Join. Ch 1. (25)

Round 5: 1 SC in next 4 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, Repeat around, Join. Ch 1. (30)

Weave in your ends if you haven’t worked over them as the piece progressed. Trim any tails.

My Crochet Mojo ... Is It Back?

So, I haven't posted on the blog in over a year. One thing that led to the downfall of my crochet mojo is the death of 3 family members in the span of (less than) 18 months. I lost all desire to do anything other than what I absolutely HAD to get finished. I know some of you understand that, and while crochet is a release of emotional stress for me, I simply had lost the desire to do anything other than stare at what others were creating. Nothing inspired me. I can't really say that I'm "inspired" right now but I do have an itch starting that I think I recognize as that "want-to" when it comes to crafting.

I "want-to" do something with my hands. I "want-to" get my mind out of the dark place it's been resting. I "want-to" get back to it, and I thought making a blog post might inspire me to do something about that.

I'd be interested to see what you're up to and what you've done in the past if you've ever lost your crochet mojo. Leave a comment and tell me what urged you to get back into the swing of things.

Christmas Elf, Elf, Elf, Elf ...

One Gift Down ...

As you can tell by the title of the post I have one gift completed and ready for Christmas! Of course, if I keep looking at it I'm going to want to put beads or buttons or something else on it. But what crafter doesn't do that?

This is the Granny Cocoon Shrug that recently went viral in several Facebook groups. I decided I wanted to make one - I also decided that instead of making it for me I was going to gift it!

I kinda sorta followed >>THIS<< video but I changed a couple of things - the arms for one. However, I LOVE the way it turned out and I think the recipient will love it too!

Getting ready for Christmas!

Are you busy making your gifts already? I am, too! And I want to share one with you today.

I've looked at these lovely dishcloths for some time now and I finally decided to make one (well two) for one of my aunts for Christmas.

Here's the one that's completed:

I just LOVE how it turned out! I used a crochet thread #10 for the eye and embroidered it on and yes, as you can tell, I didn't have any yellow cotton yarn so her beak is made of regular ww acrylic. But it still looks great!

Hen Potholder/Dishcloth

The site is in French but the pattern is a diagram that you can follow. I think I'm going to write out the pattern for myself though, since I had to make some adjustments when I was following the diagram.

I am going to ask that if you're the praying sort, to add some prayers for my family in the mix. We've lost another loved one to cancer last night, my cousin Mark. He will be missed.

More Hats

This is a short week for me since I'm speaking at the Women's Emmaus Walk starting on Thursday. That's why I'm posting a day early =D

This week I've been practicing my talk and working on something that's near and dear to my heart: cancer caps.

I've made several and if you follow me on Instagram you've seen the ones that I posted. Here's a few for you to see.

LOVE the elephant button on this color blocked hat.

Plain and simple but oh so soft and warm!

This is a pattern I hope to have ready next week
and may not be given to the Cancer Center
since it's so seasonal.

This is made in the same style as the Pumpkin Hat
but is more appropriate for the Cancer Center
since it can be worn at any time.

I really like this variegated yarn with the orange.

Simple orange and cream hat with a single crochet edging.

This one is made with #8 thread and has flowers
made with #10 thread. Really like how this one came out.
I'm keeping this one though.

Apparently I've had plenty of orange yarn - LOL

Delores DeColores Slouch Beanie

My beautiful daughter Maeghan models for me.
The body of the hat has a lot of room and give for those with long hair
while still laying nicely for those of us with shorter locks.

This hat is quite easy to make and will match a myriad of styles and colors. The small heart-shaped button at the top adds a bit of whimsy to the piece. It can be made in any color yarn and will still look just as great!

I love the button and that cinched look!

I decided to write up the pattern and share it through my Ravelry store. There is a small fee for this pattern of which 25% goes to the Emmaus community. It's my way of giving back to this worthwhile ministry so that others can experience the joy and blessings offered.

Recovering with a Free Pattern

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks because of some things happening in the family: I had an aunt (only 5 years older than me) to pass away from a sudden illness. We grew up more like sisters than aunt and niece. I can even remember arguing over who got to play with what toy. Memories like that bring a smile to my face every time I think of them.

I just wanted to let you know that I hadn't fallen off the face of the Earth and that I am still crocheting. I'm working on a new pattern today, as a matter of fact.

This time of year I'm a bit prone to achy joints, especially my wrists. You can guess from that how much I love fingerless gloves. This is a pair I made last night. I was just crocheting while watching TV and <BOOM> they were done! It took about 2 hours including the time it took to weave in all the ends and make adjustments for a better fit.

Now these are no where near glamorous but they are comfortable and they will keep your wrists nice and warm and loose for hours of crafting work! The instructions are easy to follow and this would make a good project for the beginning crocheter.

Finishing those WiP's

This past week has been pretty rough. I have an aunt (who is only 5 years older than me) that is in critical condition and on life support - we've been to visit her and the family in Charlotte, NC. It isn't looking good.

I've been keeping busy by finishing off a couple of projects that have just been laying around the house waiting for me to pick them back up.

First up we have that contagious Virus Shawl. The pattern has been around for ages but lately it seems like everyone has jumped on the proverbial bandwagon. I made mine with Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable in Parrot. I love how it turned out.

My next one was a ripple blanket with a matching hat for a baby girl. No one I know is having a girl (everyone is having boys) but when one comes along I will be ready! The ripple pattern comes from Attic24 and I just made up the hat as I went along.

And a friend has ordered a Cat in the Hat photo prop set that I've started on. I have to make the bow but I've got the hat finished. It's so stinking cute!

You can slip stitch or single crochet around the earflaps to make the edges look "finished" if you want.

Football Stitches

These will go on the front of the hat.

With white yarn thread a length about 12 inches long into your yarn needle.

In the middle of the front of the hat, across rounds 12 to 17, sew two or three long vertical "threads". (As seen in the picture)

Secure on the wrong side with a double knot. Make sure the knot will not be so large as to leave a mark on the wearer's forehead. You could also weave the yarn through the stitches on the wrong side of the hat as long as the white won't show through on the right side.

For the horizontal "threads" use a length of yarn about 18 inches in length and thread it into your yarn needle. Double this thread. Make three horizontal "threads" as seen in the image. Secure on the wrong side of the hat.

Weave in any loose ends.

Braids

For younger children (under the age of 3) use shorter braids at a length of 8" to 10" so as not to have a choking hazard.

Cut equal lengths of brown and white yarn. You can use as many or as few as you like. And you can make the braids any length that you want.

For the hat in the picture, I used 30 lengths of yarn (15 of each color) 24 inches long.

Trim the ends of the braids to make them even and you're done!

Football Earflap Beanie and Matching Fingerless Gloves

Are you ready for some football?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Who else hears Willie Nelson, Jr singing that on Monday nights? Do they still use that song? My husband and I got rid of cable quite a while ago and watch things on Netflix and Hulu instead. I'm out of touch with Monday night football but not when it comes to crochet!

I made this adorable beanie and glove set for someone who's 3 year old daughter is starting cheer-leading this year for the Pee-Wee league players.

It's so stinking cute! The photos don't do it justice at all. I'll be writing up the pattern for these little gems this week so watch for it soon!

Shutter Buddy Flower with Pattern

Camera tricks are sometimes necessary when taking pics of kids and infants and there are so many out there to choose from. One easy way is to have cute little "pets" on your camera lens! I made one just for fun (and to give to a friend of mine that's wanting start her own photography business).

This is a really SIMPLE and QUICK project that will take less than an hour for the intermediate crocheter. So you advanced peeps will be able to whip one out in no time at all - but here's the great part - this pattern is also perfect for beginners.

Materials:

Scrap yarn in the color of your choice
size I/9 5.5MM crochet hook
elastic hair band
yarn needle
scissors

Attach your yarn to the elastic hair band with a slip stitch and chain 1.

Round 1: 30 SC around the elastic hair band. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 1.

Round 2: Double Crochet in each stitch around. (30) Join with a slip stitch. Chain 3.

Round 3: **1 Double Crochet in the next 2 stitches, Chain 3 and slip stitch in the next Single Crochet. Slip stitch in the next 2 stitches. Chain 3. Repeat from ** around. You will end by slip stitching into the remaining Single Crochet.

Tie off and weave in the ends.

There you are! A simple little camera buddy to have in your bag for taking pictures of little ones. These things can be made in any shape and character you wish. HERE is a Pinterest page that will give you some inspiration. Let your imagination run wild!

I got to thinking about last weeks post and realized I didn't give a step by step "how-to" for framing your own work. So this week, with the help of my daughter Maeghan, we put together a quick guide for framing your work.

Step one:
Block the work that's going to be framed.
Blocking will allow the work to maintain it's shape.

I used a paper towel between the doily and the cardboard to keep it from leeching any of the ink off the box. You don't have to have expensive mats or special equipment for blocking. As you can see I used a cardboard box that we got from Sam's Club and some T-pins from Hobby Lobby. You can use regular sewing pins but they might rust, so I highly recommend getting the stainless steel. They were about $3 for 50 pins. If you don't have a cardboard box like this one, use the non-greasy side of a pizza box, a stack of 2 or 3 towels, or a kids' foam play-mat and you will get the same results.

Step 2:
Gather your supplies!
For this project you will need:

blocked doily
12"x12" photo frame
fabric piece
scissors
ruler
pen/pencil - optional

Step 3:
Cut your fabric to size.
We used the back of the frame for sizing instead of trying to cut freehand.

Be sure to use the printed/solid parts of the fabric only! Notice the edge to the left has a line of white - you don't want that in your frame.

Step 4:
Clean the glass of your frame.
It'd be pretty bad if you did all the work of framing then looked and saw a smudge. Uh-oh! So make sure to clean it before you start putting the parts together.

Step 5:
Measure!
Measure the doily against the frame to make sure you have it centered. Feel free to off-set and add embellishments if you want, but for this project we're centering our piece. You want to make sure that the work shows in the frame and isn't hidden behind the edge of it.

Step 6:
Place the cut-to-size piece of fabric on the frame, add the back and secure in place - Done!

Now your work is ready for display in your home or office. You can wrap it up and gift it to someone like a new bride or new home owner. It also makes a great gift for birthdays, Christmas, and all kinds of other holidays and occasions.

I hope this (and last week's post) encourage you to frame some of those works of art that you might have laying around the craft room.

Framed Crochet Art

I finally finished the project I started last week. The hubby and I made a trip to Hobby Lobby in the pouring rain, no less, to get the supplies I needed. I over-bought on the fabric and got a half yard when in reality a much smaller amount would have worked. (The fabric was on sale for 30% off!) Since the project turned out so well, I think I'll make a couple more! The frame we got is a 12"x12" picture frame with real glass (not plastic) and real metal framework. That was on sale for 50% off! I love project making when supplies are on sale! =D

Materials for this project include a finished doily, fabric,
frame, scissors, and a ruler. I used the back of the picture frame
as a template when cutting the fabric to size.

The doily looks fantastic in the frame and the fabric background just makes the work pop! I'm completely in love with how it turned out. The hubby is pretty impressed, too. I've already gotten another doily finished and I'll be putting that one into a frame as well (back to Hobby Lobby while it's still on sale!).

I'm glad I decided on the print fabric instead of a solid color.
If you're making one, take the doily with you when you decide on the fabric.
That way you can see exactly how it's going to look before buying
something that might end up clashing or cause the doily to get lost in the print.

Mini Doily with Added Picot Edging

I got it into my head that I wanted to make a doily so I went in search of patterns that would be 1) quick and 2) easy. I was browsing around on You Tube and found several that looked really good but for some reason I just wasn't feeling like they were the right ones for me. I've made several so making a doily wasn't intimidating, they just didn't fit into my two requirements.

That's when I stumbled upon Jeego Crochet. This guy has so many fabulous doily patterns and I couldn't take my eyes off them. The more I looked at his channel the more stunning I found the work. But again, I was looking for 1) quick and 2) easy. He has a two part video series for the Beautiful Mini Doily - Pineapples Pattern that fit the bill.

He uses a #3 crochet thread for this one (I think) but I wanted a more delicate piece so I opted for what I believe is a #10 nylon or acrylic thread. I can't be more certain than that because I've tossed the label that came on it <or> the label was missing when I got it. It's in a lovely antique white color that I think will look stunning for what I have planned for it. I'm also using a 4/2.00MM steel crochet hook (it's very small). The finished piece is looking to be around 5.5" before blocking.

The left side is the "original" edging when you're finished with the video. The right side is a picot edging I'm adding on to give it a more delicate appearance.

Mandalas for Marinke - My Contribution

On June 26,2015, a truly creative person took her own life in her struggle with depression. Marinke, better known as Wink, from A Creative Being succumbed to her battle and now her talent is lost to us in this realm.

If you've had or known anyone with depression you know the struggles it takes to just keep living "one more day". Often times, medication and therapy can help but it's not enough for some. I've struggled with a bit of depression from time to time in my life, but I can not imagine the pain a person would have to feel in order to end it all.

To those who knew her and to her family

I express my deepest sympathies and want you to know

that my prayers are with you and with Wink.

To honor and remember Wink and to raise awareness for Depression, Kathryn from Crochet Concupiscence has begun a project that all crafters are invited to participate in, Mandalas for Marinke. Scrump-Inspired VooDoo Doll

This week I've been working on this Scrump inspired doll. There are a lot of patterns out there that are free and paid that I could have used, but I decided to go out on my own and make it like the one in the movie Lilo and Stitch. Well, it's as close as I could make it like the one in the movie.

I do love it though! I've been playing with it and holding it and carrying it around like a baby! (lol - there must be something wrong with me =D)

The doll itself measures right at 14" long (standing) but the bow and hair add an additional 6.5"! This is a big doll!

In the movie you can see Lilo wiggle her Scrump around and he appears so floppy and soft; this doll is VERY floppy and soft. It's filled with Cluster Stuff, which I think is much more squishy than polyester Fiberfill. And this doll's head is attached at a narrow point which allows it to loll around and lay all willy-nilly.

I do plan on re-writing the pattern and making it available for free through Ravelry so watch for the post on that soon.

Another quick and easy Warm Weather Project!

Here's another great project for this hot and humid weather we've been having. A quick and easy lanyard perfect for keeping up with your keys as you enjoy the outdoors this Summer.

Materials:
(I used the swivel hook)

Small amount of cotton yarn, color of your choice
Size G crochet hook
scissors
embroidery needle
lanyard swivel hook or keychain split ring

Stitches used:

Single Crochet (SC)
Chain (Ch)

Make a slip knot and chain a number that equals the length you desire for your lanyard. I chained 80. Try it on by holding it across the back of your neck and pinching the ends together to make sure the hook/ring will fall in the right place. (Don't attach the hook yet)

1: SC in second chain from hook and in each ch across. When you get to the end, tie off, leave tails loose.

2: Slip the hook/ring onto your work. Close the lanyard by using the tails to sew the two ends together. Tie off securely, weave in ends and trim.

3: Cut a piece of yarn about 6" in length. Center the hook/ring at the opposite end of the lanyard from your seam. Pinch the lanyard together one inch above the hook/ring. Using the cut yarn and embroidery needle, sew this spot together to secure the hook/ring in place. Tie off securely, weave in ends and trim.

Amigurumi Pet Rock with Pattern

Have you heard of SYS2015? No? Well now you have!

This is a pattern I came up with for a Summer tutorial series called SYS2015 hosted by Alida from Tweety Loves Quilting. SYS stands for "Stretch Your Skills" and I was so excited when I was asked to participate! Take the time to look over the various postings of quilting, paper piecing and crochet - later this summer look for a knitting tutorial from my daughter Katrina!

This is a perfect project for beginners wanting to make their first amigurumi toy and interesting enough to keep the experienced crocheter entertained. And it's a great summer crochet project!

Alida has been great in getting everything together and posting the tutorials for everyone to enjoy.

Summer Book Mark

Today I'm reposting a popular bookmark pattern I made last summer. It's perfect for your warm weather crochet itch! And with the join as you go method you don't have to worry about sewing anything together!

This project is a cute Flower Motif bookmark. The motifs are joined as you go so there's no need to go back and sew them together, although you could certainly do that if you're so inclined. The bookmark was made with a 7" to 8" long book in mind. It also lies flat and has an optional tail and tassel for some added whimsy.

Gather your supplies and let's get started!

Materials:

#10 crochet thread in your choice of color
size 4/2.00 MM crochet hook (it's small)
scissors
needle for weaving in the ends

Stitches used: (American terms - converter)

Magic Circle starting technique (optional)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet (sc)
Double Crochet (dc)

Notes:

This pattern uses a join-as-you-go method for attaching the flowers together. You can also make the flowers separately and then sew them together if you like.
Work over the tails as you go.

Begin pattern:

R1: Magic Circle, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc 11 more times in the Circle. Pull the tail tight. Join to first dc with sl st. (12 dc)

{Alternate starting method: Chain 4 and join with a sl st to make a circle. Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc 11 more times in circle. Join to first dc with a sl st. (12 dc)}

R2: Ch 3, dc in same as ch 3; ch 2; 2 dc in same space (this should look like a different kind of V stitch). *Skip next stitch, {2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc} in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join to first dc with a sl st.

R3: Sl st to next ch 2 space and ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc all in the ch 2 space of previous row. Skip the next 2 dc, SC in the opening created by the dc's of previous row. (See Pic). *{3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc} all in next ch 2 space, sc in opening created by dc's of previous row. Repeat from * around. Join to first dc with a sl st. Tie off and weave in ends.

That's it for the flower motif. Now to get them joined together use the following method:

Joining:
When you get to where you have 2 petals left to crochet (pic):

1. Do the first set of 3 dc in the space indicated.

Two petals left to complete. Time to Join!

2. Hold the working flower and the finished flower back to back (wrong sides together) go through the ch 2 space of the finished flower and pull up a loop, sl st, ch 1, finish with 3 dc in the same space as last 3 dc.

Hold the flowers wrong sides together

Go through the ch 2 space of the finished flower.
Pull up a loop, and sl st. Then ch 1.

Finish the petal of the working flower by
completing the remaining 3 dc stitches
in the same space.

3. SC in the opening created by the dc's of previous row.

4. 3 dc in the next ch 2 space, go through the ch 2 space of the finished flower and pull up a loop, sl st, ch 1, finish with 3 dc in the same space as last 3 dc.

5. SC in the opening created by the dc's of previous row.

6. Join to first dc and tie off. Weave in ends.

Joining 5 motifs together will give you a

book mark approximately 8" long.

You can stop here if you're happy with the way it looks. You can add more motifs if you want it longer. The length is entirely up to you.

To add the tail and tassel:

Pick one end of your bookmark to attach your yarn.

1. With right side facing you, attach your yarn in the sc stitch between two petals.

2. Ch 3, (remember this is still the first dc stitch), 2 dc in same space. Ch 2, 3 dc in same space. Turn, sl st to ch 2 space.

3. *Ch 3, 2 dc in same space. Ch 2, 3 dc in same space. Turn, sl st to ch 2 space.

4. Repeat from * until your tail has 5 sections. (pic)

Now, you can call this one finished as well. It's your bookmark. But I added a tassel, just a bit of whimsical flair to hang from the bottom (or top) of my book.

Click this link for a video tutorial on how to make a tassel.

Attach tassel to the last ch 2 space of your tail with a tether 3 to 5 chs long. Be sure to trim off any long ends from the tassel.

And you're finished! You now have a lovely bookmark to keep or gift.
