Adding the "Pin It" Button to your Toolbar for Quick Pinning on Pinterest

Mozilla Firefox, Google Toolbar, and the "Pin It" button added right on the toolbar. What could be better???? It's THE BEST way to pin stuff to your Pinterest board if the site doesn't have it's own "Pin It" buttons. And let's face it; some sites have so much great stuff, they can't add the "pin it' to every single item.

I use Firefox, the Google Toolbar and add my shortcuts to it, and I haven't neglected to add my "Pin It" button in case I need it! Carpet Freshening Powder Recipe-All Natural

Want to keep your carpets smelling fresh? Want to make a product you can place in your closet to keep odors out? Want to make fabric sachets for your dresser drawers? This recipe will help you make it all!

What you will need:

Large Zip Log Bag
Small Zip Lock Bag
Baking Soda
Borax (20 Mule Team)
Essential Oils of your Choice (I recommend Sweet Orange or any blend of citrus to not just cover odors, but to actually eliminate them!) (Optional)

To the LARGE ziploc bag add 4 cups of baking soda, and 2 cups of borax. Seal and shake. Remove about 1/2 Cup of your powdered mixture and pour it into the SMALL zip bag. Add 1 tablespoon essential oil, if you are using it. Seal the bag and mix by kneading it and shaking it. It will be really moist. Reopen the small zip bag, add another 1/2 cup of powder to the small zip bag and mix/knead again. Add one more half cup of dry powder and mix again in the small zip bag. Then add all of the powder and oil mixture in the small bag to the remainder of the dry powder in the large bag, seal and mix very, very well with shaking, stirring and kneading. There should be no lumps. Open the bag and let it "dry" for a few hours.

Store mixture in the large zip lock bag.

How to Use:

To use, sprinkle a few tablespoons on your carpet, leave on for about 10 minutes and vacuum. You can use this for mattresses too. If you don't use any essential oils in it, the baking soda/borax mixture will help deodorize your litter box. (I don't recommend using essential oils in anything you add to your cat's box because citrus could REPEL the cat, and it could cause allergies or other illnesses.)
You can also place 1 cup of the powder in a bowl and set it on a shelf in your closet to absorb odors.
You can also cut out about an 8 inch square of fabric, add about 2 tablespoons of your powder to the center, draw up the corners of the fabric and tie with ribbon. Toss them in drawers, under beds, anywhere you need some nice scent and odor control. You can even keep them in your shoes when you aren't wearing them!
This mixture is also great for deodorizing the garbage disposal. Sprinkle a couple of teaspoons in the disposal, wait about 20 minutes then run just a trickle of water while running the disposal.
Sprinkle mixture in your trash cans under the garbage bag to keep the can smelling fresh and clean!

Again you can use no essential oil or any type or blend you prefer. I recommend citrus oils like orange or a blend of citruses such as orange, lemon, tangerine, lime, or grapefruit. You can also use peppermint or lavender. You have a lot of choices. You can also use artificial fragrance oils in your favorite scent! The sky is the limit!

Read Labels for additional info on Calcium, Vitamin D, and other important vitamins & minerals found not only in the Breakfast Essentials, but also in the milk & lowfat ice cream. Both the milk and ice cream are great sources of calcium & vitamin D, but the Breakfast Essentials are high in a lot of vitamins & minerals.

1 Cup Lowfat Ice Cream.............(I use Schwan's or Eddy's)...............................................220 Cals
1/4 Cup 1% Milk (Skim has less fat and cals; read labels) ....................................................20 Cals
1/2 Packet Breakfast Essentials-Chocolate (if you use the canister; use 1/2 of directed)..55 Cals

For Mocha add 2 teaspoons of instant coffee, regular or decaf. It will add 2 calories and no fat.

Strawberry (Or other fruits)

1 Cup Lowfat Ice Cream.............(I use Schwan's or Eddy's).....................................................220 Cals
1/4 Cup 1% Milk (Skim has less fat & cals; read labels) ...........................................................20 Cals
1/2 Packet Breakfast Essentials-Vanilla (if you use the canister; use 1/2 of directed).........55 Cals
1/2 Cup Strawberries (I use frozen & thaw what I need in the microwave) .........................50 Cals

For a vanilla shake use Vanilla Flavored Carnation Breakfast Essentials, omit strawberries and add 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract or flavoring. You can also use the Strawberry Flavored Carnation Breakfast Essentials instead of vanilla and add the strawberries for more strawberry flavor. I just prefer the vanilla with strawberries.

If you use the vanilla flavor, you could also use blueberries, blackberries, or any other berry (or a blend) or even chunks of peaches or bananas. Check package labels for fat and calorie content on any other fruits to adjust the totals. Use ONLY fresh or frozen for best taste and lowest cals & fat. Some fruits will add to the sugar content, such as bananas.

For the little one that I babysit, since she will not eat well in the morning, I use just milk, a half a package of the CBE and some lowfat vanilla yogurt and make her a smoothie that way. AWESOME breakfast for on the go kids!

Tips:

Make sure you mix any dry ingredients with your milk and let it "dissolve" before you add it to your ice cream or even after you blend it all it could taste "grainy". Pour everything into your blender, then blend until smooth. If you don't have a blender, you can put it all in a bowl and use a stick blender or mixer. Enjoy!
Eddy's Lowfat Ice Cream has a lot of whipped in air. You get more ice cream for your money if you use the Schwan's brand!

NOTE: The little girl I babysit for won't eat breakfast but she loves her "chocolate milk". So a variation on the lowfat ice cream is to use non-fat frozen yogurt. Actually we use 6 oz milk, a 4 ounce container of regular vanilla yogurt, the CBE, put it all in her sippy cup and give it a good shake. This is the PERFECT breakfast smoothie for on the go kids!

Craft Idea Using SMA Gingerbread Men!

CRAFT IDEA:

I have decided to make a dozen of my Soy Wax Gingerbread Men in Cinna Bun scent and use them on my Christmas Tree! In order to make a way to hang them, I'm going to tie a miniature "scarf" around their necks in colors to match my tree decor and then use the hanger on the back of the scarf. My tree is going to smell wonderful and they will be ADORABLE! Next year I'm thinking I can make some snowflakes, candy canes and other Christmas shapes and let others do the same thing. If you are interested in doing this for yourself, remember, if you handle some fragrances with bare hands it can burn your skin. Also after touching them you cannot touch you mouth, nose or eyes. So wear latex gloves while you make them or order unscented and do not touch your face with gloved hands:o) Keep them away from pets and small children because they will smell good. You can also order completely unscented, and you can order them in all white and make them SNOW MEN! A little permanent black marker and you can even make eyes and buttons. Remember they also look & AWESOME in a bowl as part of your Christmas Decor, PLUS you could also string them and make a window or doorway garland with some string and wooden beads! So many ideas and they smell sooooo good!

AWESOME Home Made Liquid Laundry Detergent

UPDATE: There are sellers on Amazon that sell Zote Laundry Bars but then they want waaaay too much for shipping. However, you can get it actually FROM Amazon. It is like $4.89 per bar. So if you bought it with other stuff you needed or bought 6 bars to bring your total up to $25 or more, first you could make a TON of laundry detergent, lol PLUS you will get free shipping and NO sales tax. So if you have a friend that would like to make laundry detergent too, do a co-op with them and split the costs! There is also a seller there that sells it by the case and has pretty reasonable shipping. So again, if you can find a few friends to co-op with, then you are all set for Zote! And it is THE best and smells AWESOME! And what you don't use making detergent is great for stains. Wet the stain with water and rub in the Zote. Voila! No more stain!

UPDATE 2: I have been told that some Walmarts DO sell Zote, so you might be able to find it at a different store other than the one at which you normally shop. So ask around:o) I just personally do not like the smell of Fells Naptha so I won't use it.

I had promised a few people that I would post my recipe for homemade laundry detergent, so I decided to just do it here so that anyone that wanted it could print it off (just highlight the text, press ctrl & P, and choose "selection" when it asks about what pages you want to print. If you want to copy and paste it to wordpad or MS Word, just highlight press ctrl & C at the same time, then go to your document and use the "Paste" shortcut or press ctrl & V to paste it.) That way you can print it, save it, whatever.

Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipe

Ingredients & Tools:

1 Cup Borax (Sold at Walmart as 20 Mule Team Borax)
1 Cup Washing Soda (NOT baking soda, it must say "Washing Soda" on it and it may say that it is a laundry additive. It is in the detergent aisle and it's in a bright YELLOW box.)
Bar of Laundry Soap (I LOVE Zote if you can find it. Otherwise you CAN buy Colgate all natural laundry soap on Amazon. You can get Zote on Amazon, but the people selling it want a king's ransom for shipping. Amazon sells it themselves too, and if you order at leat $25, you get free shipping and no sales tax). You can use basically ANY soap you wish (such as Ivory), but I recommend a laundry bar and Zote smells wonderful. You can get Fells Naptha at Walmart, but I think it stinks so I won't use it. If you want to go 100% Natural use the Colgate or buy an all natural bar from one of the many sellers of cold or hot processed soap makers online.
Measuring Cups (One made for "dry ingredients" & one for "liquids")
Whisk
Wooden Spoon (that you can dedicate to this & no longer use on food.)
Very Large Cooking Pot (I use my big black "canning" pot)
Five Gallon Bucket with Lid (if you have one WITHOUT a lid, after you mix your soap in it, HIDE IT FROM SMALL CHILDREN AND PETS. They can go in head first and they CANNOT get out. They will drown or suffocate. So make sure you either have a lid, or that you can lock the bucket up.
Water (I use filtered from the tap)
Empty Milk Jugs, or Laundry Detergent Bottles
Medium to Large Funnel
Optional Essential Oil (I like to add just a bit of Sweet Orange and you can usually get it at a health food store.)

Directions:

Fill your cooking pot with 8-10 cups of water.
While it is heating grate your soap bar. If you are using Zote, it is a big bar, so grate half of it (unless you want to double this recipe, like I do). If you are using a smaller bar, like the Fells or Colgate grate it all. Add it to the water on the stove, and stir with wooden spoon until all of the pieces of soap have melted.
Once all the soap has melted, remove the pot from the heat.
Add your washing soda and borax SLOWLY because it can "foam up" and overflow if you aren't careful. Stir it in then use your whisk to make sure it all mixes properly and doesn't get lumpy. If it is terribly thick, use another cup of hot water.
Fill a gallon jug or gallon sized pitcher with hot water. Pour it into your 5 gallon bucket. Then fill the jug half-way and pour that into the bucket.(You will be adding approximately 1 and 1/2 gallons of water, basically.)
Add the soap mixture from the pot and stir well to mix it. It MIGHT be a bit thin at this point. If it is really, really thick, add ONE more cup of hot water at a time until it thins out. Be careful not to add too much or it will thin it out more than you want. But it SHOULD be thin at this point and will thicken as it sits.
Let your detergent set for approx. 24 hours. I go in and whisk mine a few times throughout the time it is sitting. It will get thick as it sets and when you whisk it it thins out some every time. It will be thick and foamy looking. Kinda like very thin marshmallow cream.
After 24 hours, whisk it again really well, then using the funnel, pour your detergent into jugs, old laundry bottles, whatever you have that has a lid. If you don't have enough jugs, simply cover the soap and refill the bottles when they are empty.
Shake the jug or bottle well for each load of laundry and use 1/2 cup in each load. The soap with get thick as it sets but thins out when you shake it. (I know it's kinda weird, but it does.) If you are washing things that are not terribly soiled, you can use half.
It WILL NOT look like normal laundry soap. It is kinda reminds me of really, really thin grits because it looks like it has teeny lumps in it. That's just the nature of the final product and it is fine.
If you have a tough stain, pour a little onto the stain and let it set for a few minutes before you wash.
Rinse the detergent off immediately if you get any on your skin. It can burn. Keep it away from pets and children.

Options: When you pour your mixture into the bucket of hot water, you can add a cup of Oxy Clean if you wish. You can use any essential oil or essential oil blend. Citrus oils are the best for cleaning and odors. Sweet Orange, Lemon, Tangerine, etc. All of them are perfect. Just add 1 teaspoon to the whole mixture at a time until you have the desired amount. Citrus oils are often used in commercial cleaners because they are a natural de-greaser and odor remover.

Some things I have to say personally about this soap:

This is an AMAZING laundry cleaner. I have noticed a few things about this soap. First of all, I wrote on the sides of my plastic jugs with permanent marker and some of this soap dribbled down the side and REMOVED the marker. My husband is a commissioning engineer for a company that builds flow wrap machines for candy bars, etc. and he always comes home smelling of machine oil. It removes all traces of that smell and the oily dirt on his jeans & uniform tops. The second thing I have noticed is that if I put a load of laundry in at night and leave it in the washer until the next day, it does NOT get that musty smell to it. I think that is the Sweet Orange Essential Oil that I use. In the summer I get that really bad. If I leave a load overnight it sours. This stuff is great for that if you use the orange oil. It is AWESOME for ALL odors. Third thing is that you can do loads and loads of laundry with this for just pennies a load. Fourth thing is that my hubby and the little one that I babysit for are both sensitive to certain "store-bought" detergents and fabric softeners. Neither of them have broken out from this soap. So it's very mild, but cleans VERY, VERY well. I mean it REMOVES permanent marker! lol

If you make and use this, I would LOVE to hear about any experiences you have with stain removal, etc.

We've used a * (star) system to show which scents are: very strong (meaning you can only melt them for bits at a time because they are very strong) medium strong (great scent throw, not overpowering) or light (self explanatory). We hope this helps you, our customers choose the best scents for YOU! We don't want anyone expecting a light fragrance to get overwhelmed with one that is stronger than what they wanted, or to have a customer expecting a very strong scent to get one that is not all that strong. Please understand we put basically the same amount of highly concentrated, excellent quality oils in all our products, however, some scents are just stronger right out of the bottle, and will, therefore, be lighter in the finished product.

Whew! I'm so glad that inner ear infection is clearing up! I feel much better today and am all caught up on work for Simply Melt Away!

Since I am feeling so much better I have decided to do a blog giveaway. It will start next week, and run until I get the followers to this blog that I want. Once we reach the number of followers that I want to reach, we will do the giveaway!

Our New Carpet Freshening Powder Has Many Uses & New Scents!

New! You can now get our SMA Carpet Freshening Powder in ALL natural essential oils scents or no scent at all! You can now get it in Real Lavender Essential Oil, Real Orange Essential Oil (which is an excellent odor remover; it doesn't just cover it up!), Citrus Blend (Orange, Lemon & Lime which again ELIMINATES odors), and unscented. The unscented version is ideal for litter boxes! Please keep in mind that when you use your Carpet Freshening Powder in the litter box, some cats will NOT like it, ESPECIALLY citrus scents...so use carefully in the litter box! And be careful not to over use any substance in your cat's litter box; they could be allergic or it could cause skin or paw pad irritation.

What are some of the way our SMA Carpet Freshening Powder can be used?

Obviously it can be used on the carpet. Just a few teaspoons scattered around and left on for 10 minutes or so will go a long way. Or just add it to the vacuum bag or canister to freshen the room or whole house as you clean.
Place a small container of SMA Carpet Freshening Powder in your closet to freshen and remove odors. You can use either the Carpet Powder with one of our wonderful scents, or one of our great all natural essential oils! The orange or citrus blend essential oils are idea for actually removing odors!
Sprinkle just a small amount in your shoes to freshen them up and remove odors. Again, you can use either the Carpet Powder with one of our wonderful scents, or one of our great all natural essential oils!
Cut a fabric square about 6x6 inches, pour about 2 tablespoons into the center, bring up the corners and secure them with a rubber band making a little sachet bag. But them in any drawer.

Our All Natural SMA Carpet Freshening Powder has many uses too that are better suited to the real essential oils rather than fragrance oils!

Sprinkle 2-4 tablespoons real orange or citrus oils powder in the bottom of your trash can before you add the garbage bag. This will help keep odors from leaching out of the garbage bag and remaining behind in the can after the bag has been removed.
Sprinkle a couple of teaspoons of the carpet powder with real lavender oil on your mattress; let set for 10-20 minutes then vacuum. Lavender is known for it's relaxing properties!
Put a cup in the microwave about half full of tap water and heat til it boils. Drop in a tablespoon of the carpet powder with the all natural orange or citrus oils and stir. Heat it for about another minute, then let it set in the microwave; the steam with do the cleaning and the essential oils will make it smell AWESOME! (Caution: Be very careful handling the cup of hot water. It can burn!)
Again, using the SMA Carpet Freshening Powder with the real orange or citrus blend oil, sprinkle a tablespoon in your garbage disposal. Leave for 2 minutes, then turn the water on a very slow trickle and turn the disposal on for a few seconds letting it clean and freshen the disposal blades!

Okay, I know I said I wasn't going add any more scents for a while, but I think I am! lol I have some that I already mix exclusively & I can do some more of my own mixing with those same scents, so I'm going to do some testing! I love experimenting & coming up with my own version of a scent, so I'm gonna work on 'em & we'll see what I come up with! If I already have them, and can work on new scents by blending, then why not give my customers a little more variety; more choices? Watch for those coming soon! Gotta work on the blends to get them the way I want them, test them out, then I'll list them!
