The Singapore Scout Association is the only youth organisation from Singapore to send a team to partake in the coronation event.

“It is a great honour to be given the opportunity to represent Singapore and our Scout Association at this historic event. As a history student, I have had the opportunity to understand the importance that the British monarchy had on the early days of Singapore and this opportunity would definitely broaden my horizon and see the world from a different perspective. The YWA is a programme developed to provide young people between the age of 16 to 26 with opportunities to address challenges of the future. This programme was jointly developed with support from the World Scout Bureau. A “Forward Singapore” dialogue session was conducted subsequently for participants to better understand government initiatives dealing with climate change and how Singaporeans can play a part in the pursue for net zero greenhouse emission in 2050.

“With Singapore’s Diamond Jubilee in a few years’ time, it is important that our young people learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals with regards to climate change and discover their place in the community through ground-up initiatives,” said Desmond Chong, Chief Commissioner of the Singapore Scout Association. “Through the Diamond Jubilee Challenge, we hope our young people will take on a more active role in climate change concerns and contribute to ‘Creating a Better World’.”
