name="e1ee">I haven’t published anything substantial online in years.

That’s ok.

We’ll go with acceptance at this point.

I’m not saying that what you, in particular, write matters or doesn’t matter. I am saying that today, I write. Even if it sucks.

I have a lot of experience in the online social media and writing world but have let my skills lie dormant. Why? The ways of life have got me down. I’ve been through a lot and my mind is shattered in focus. Lack of motivation is a real drag.

My thoughts jump around a lot and I have a hard time concentrating on one thing. I won’t watch a movie or TV without going for smokes.

I guarantee someone’s going to read this because of the title that has written a ton of pieces, and they’re still offended.

Let me make it clear, I’m all for writing quality but to even start writing this, I had to break free of my complex about how and what to write about.

What you write about should very much matter to you.

Right now, I’m writing about writing (or writer’s block really).

I purposely chose this topic to both gains the attention I seek and to work through this extremely difficult problem.

Again, I’m at a loss for words because I’m considering what I’ve said, what people will think, and what impression I will leave.

I just took a break to throw in some laundry and the awesome washer flooded the basement again. Great.

So maybe some of you go through this kind of writer’s block, maybe you don’t. In any case, something caught your attention about this article if you can call it that.

Piece of writing.

Well, this is an exercise in frustration. I am not sure what I’ve said thus far other than I’ve much experience in the online social media and writing areas and that it is important what you choose to write about.

The popularity factor of a piece can be enormous or very mild depending on numerous factors.

This is really an art, or even a bit of a science when it comes to topic and titling.

But without good content, a great title has no place. The meat of your writing is going to either make or break it.

What was negatively titled is now positively pushing forward the notion of thought and selection.

Thought and selection can be mind-numbingly freezing when it comes to accomplishing anything.

Sometimes you got to just stumble through.

Like I am right now.

That’s ok, yeah right.

See I have a perfection complex of some sort going on that I want it just right.

Well, this is just right.. or write har har.

I’m trying not to let my sarcasm or inferiority get the best of me and just call it quits right now.

Quit before you’ve even started, that’s right. See the negativity that you nursed and allowed center-stage in your life can crop up to nag at you later.

I recently listened to a great book on Audible called Mind to Matter, by Dawson Church. In it, he teaches about many incredible scientific studies. A big portion of his time and effort is now teaching EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques primarily using tapping on of pressure points to achieve a state of meditation and well-being.

I’ve used these techniques a bit and intend to perhaps delve further into learning about this. The point of bringing this up is that it may be a way in which you can help yourself forwards.

I have no affiliation with Dawson Church btw…

Anyway, look him up for further incredible teachings about synchronicity and much more.

So as I said, no writing in a long time, and it shows. I’m not completely disappointed with my writing atm, but it does jump around a lot.

I’ll edit it to coherence later. (Yeah right)

So really what were you expecting when you clicked on this? A decent way to justify churning out half-assed content that fills space and makes eyeballs burn?

I sure hope not.

I respect my own time, I don’t want to waste your time so I hope for the same respect level back when I engage in a piece of content.

Sometimes spammy content makes money, yes. But do you want to be known for spammy content? Is it worth it is what it all comes down to with spammy content. Lol, here’s one more spammy content to make you cringe.

Maybe you still disagree and think it is worth doing things a little less than perfect and in multiplicity instead. I can understand it, yet I seek perfection in too many ways perhaps. Perfection may just be in those broken details.

Well, I hope you’ve got something out of this, and I sir/madam, have made it through one fairly enjoyable writing session.

I did just write my first piece in a few years. That’s an accomplishment in itself.

I ran and built several websites over the years and was even contacted by Google at one point. That’s a story for another time perhaps.

Best regards and happy writing, remember.. just write… ah!

Top 10 Social Media Blogs for 2013

Racking your brain for something to post about on Google+? Each day of the week there's a variety of popular hash-tags you can use for inspiration.

Let's go over some of the top hashtags as found on the popular social networks:

Monday

Another week starts and people are looking for motivation to start their work week - why not use the hashtag of #mondaymotivation? Rather than go for the #moodymonday which seems pretty popular as well, you could go for #musicmonday and post some of your favorite songs to get people rockin'. If you're more into the fashion scene, #shoesmonday seems to be extremely popular.

Tuesday

Everybody loves tacos right? Well maybe it's time to post your favorite taco pic on #tacotuesday. While some still go for the older #transformationtuesday - you could go for the more popular #tuesdecay or #treetuesday.

Wednesday

Ahhh #humpday.. still a favorite by all. Time to post your favorite camel pics, but maybe you have something you could add to the #wednesdaywisdom hashtag instead.

Thursday

It's time to post something from the past with #throwbackthursday. You could try another spin on it if you're feeling particularly thirsty .. it's also #thirstythursday - time to get your drink on! hah.

Friday
#tgif - thank goodness it's Friday. Time to post your favorite flashbacks with #flashbackfriday, or maybe it's just #fridayfunday for you. Don't forget about #fridaynight - who knows what could happen.

Saturday

Oh yes, we all can't get enough of those crazy cats on #caturday. It's also the day after Friday so you might want to post the aftermath with #saturdaymorning or look forward to what you have planned on #saturdaynight

Sunday

You could make it a #socialsunday and connect with some new people. How about adding a new pic to your collection with #selfiesunday? But of course it is #sundayfunday so get out there and have some fun.

These are just some of the suggested hashtags you could use to post on Google+ or any other network for that matter. Have a suggestion for a hashtag I've missed? Please let me know in the comments.

Over 1600 Google+ Followers in Just a Few Days

There's a very easy method to increasing your followers in Google+ that I'm going to show you in a video I just made. Its called circle sharing and anyone can do this, as long as you're not on a mobile device like an iPad. It appears sharing circles are not available yet for these devices, so you're going to need a laptop or desktop to do this.

It doesn't take a long time to do, but there are a few tips that will help you to continue to increase your following, which I go over.

Some of you may already be using circle shares, but may not be getting involved with your circles. This is a very important step and will allow you to continue to grow your connections in the weeks and months to come. You want to re-share the circles you're adding and follow the directions that each circle host is giving to have them add you to their circles. I'll go over that in more detail in the video.

I also go into details of how I clean up my circles after adding a whole bunch of them. Your account can get pretty messy in no time using this method so it's a great idea to clean up your Google+ circles on a regular basis.

Check out how I went from almost no followers to over 1600 in very little time:

What did you think of the video on Google+ circle sharing? Did this help you out in anyway? Still have some questions? Leave them in the comments below.

The Decade of Social Change

Social networking has always existed in some form to the human race. Whether it was going for your morning coffee to talk to the guys at the local coffee shop or sitting around the fire telling stories to your tribe.

These were forms of social interaction that kept us connected with each other. A way to keep track of what was going on in the world and finding new opportunities that would never present themselves without the help of others in our lives.

With the invention of the internet, we've found a new forum for releasing our thoughts, ideas, and emotions. How we interact has simply been made easier and much more specific to our own values. We can now find people that we relate with on a more personal level.

Making new connections has never been easier. We can actually make contact and get our ideas across to people that would have been in the past considered the untouchables. Unless you were rich or famous, you were unable to talk to the rich or famous. This isn't as true nowadays, in fact, you have a pretty good chance of getting through to the person you wish to speak with if they are connected through the internet. I'll be it that the famous have a harder time keeping up with all the talk that comes at them, the reality is that you have more of a chance than ever in history of making that connection.

Meeting new people has never been easier. You can find yourself a network of like-minded individuals in no time at all now. New concepts are ripe for the picking. Inspiration and critical thinking are ready to explode into your life with a few keyboard strokes. The new generation is relating to one another in such a rapid fashion that they are learning things far beyond what we would have back before the internet was a reality.

If you have a new idea, you can almost instantaneously receive feedback about it, allowing you to adjust and adapt to points-of-view you may not have seen before. Traditional news sources are finding it next to impossible to keep up with online sources for their content and are doing their best to become online authorities instead.

It will be interesting to see what the next ten years has in store for us. Can you picture interactive news with trending topics taken from local sources direct to your TV.. independent content. Not syndicated global monopolies of one-sided bs. What do you think? Will we really be able to handle this kind of content, or do we still need the propaganda campaigns of yesteryear to fill our ears with their soothing drone?

<media:thumbnail Profile?

In late 2013 the overall state of search engine results are starting to point to different factors when determining who ranks first for their results. Instead of ranking a page simply on what content it contains and the pages that link to it, there is another factor involved: Authorship.

It's not simply what you know now, it's also who you know... mirroring our existence in the offline world. In the past you could get away with writing some good content and making sure you build links to that page. Now times are changing in the SEO world, Google has implemented and continues to strengthen their results based on Author Rank(or the old term of Agent Rank).

More and more you're starting to see a picture of an author alongside the content you search for. This gives the benefit of visual appeal as well as author credibility to a piece of content. Google uses a variety of factors to determine the credibility of an author and patented this technology as far back as 2009. This basically means that a piece of content written with almost the same details will rank differently depending on who the author is.

So how does this all tie into your Google+ Profile? Well your Google profile is basically your author bio. This is where those pictures next to the results are coming from. If you asked me I'd say this is going to be one of the most important factors when determining search in the near future.

As a few polls have indicated, the under 30 crowd is using social search like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to get to what they're looking for. It's now about social recommendation, rather than just traditional search.

In order to stay relevant Google HAS to use a new method and is leading the way in many of these areas. So how important is your Google+ profile? Very very important.

This is true not only for search results, but also for those using Google+ as a social network. The way in which you fill out your details is going to determine who follows you and what kind of social connections you get.

If you haven't filled out your profile yet, it's time you did... so let's go over some of the basics that can help you gain more followers and improve your author rank.

Google+ Profile Basics

Your Picture

Probably the most important factor for using the Google+ social network is your picture. People will be looking at this first when they see something you post. Our eye is naturally drawn to the visual rather than the content of a piece. This is also what's going to show up in the search results next to your webpages.

Keep in mind that people want to see you, not your cat, your dog, or the funny looking picture you found online somewhere. This is also true of Google itself. With facial recognition technologies increasing, you will notice that when mousing over your photo in Google+ you can tag your face.

So make sure you choose a picture that you find represents yourself in the manner you want others to perceive you. If you're a comedian it may be appropriate to have a quirky looking smile.. but if you're dealing in a profession that people want to feel confident of your authority, you may find a more serious approach is necessary. It all depends on you though, everyone is different and this rule of thumb is only a basic guideline.

Tagline

The second most important factor has to be your tagline. This is a short phrase that describes who you are and/or what you do. I'm noticing that a lot of people fail to realize how important this is.

When you mouse over a person's picture, this bit of info shows up directly underneath their name. I use this to help me put a person into a circle I've created, especially when I'm in the middle of doing something else and I get a notification that someone has added me. If you put something that tells me what you do for a living, or what information you like to post on, I can very easily add you to the most appropriate circle.

Try to keep this short enough that it doesn't truncate but informative enough to help people categorize you in their circles.

Occupation

Again, another piece of info that will help people know what you are going to be interested in and post about. This shows up as well when you mouse over a person's photo, directly below the tagline. Try and keep it short enough to not truncate and make sure it describes what you do rather than a blank statement like "employee"

You should fill out these 3 fields as best you can as a bare minimum, but better still if you fill in your skills and a short description of who you are. People who click on your About section are going to want to see more details about you. Don't forget that you can link to all your other networks and websites from your profile as well. Another pretty important factor. Maybe I'll write a more in-depth post on filling out all the sections in the future, but for now I'll list some further reading on the matter:

Further Resources:

<a microscope for your Google+ account. This program has a great list of categories to sort your users into like relationship (two-way, one-way, etc), engagement (engager, sharer, plusser, commenter), relevance (a number between 0 and 40) as well as by circle and a few other options - this tool is great for sorting people into more relevant circles.

Circle Count - This website is based on rankings and social reach. It tracks statistics about your Google+ account such as follower history and growth, the circles you've been shared in and even drills down into how many shares, +1s and comments you have per posting. Another awesome feature is the circle sharing lists you can find on here. You can also search by keywords through users to add people from your niche to your circles.

This list of Google+ resources by +Jaana Nyström - the list is huge and covers basic to advanced topics including different posts, videos and tools that Jaana has collected.

Google+ Notifications - A great little tool that adds a small icon next to your address bar to display your Google+ notifications. Great for when you're surfing other sites, you can still keep that snap reflex interaction going.

The number one way I've grown my followers has been by using sharing circles. These are basically lists of people that revolve around different topics that have been shared by people saying you should follow them. It's pretty easy to do, just click on the link above, find a blue sharing circle and click the add people button. Then name your new circle and voila you have now followed a bunch of people that are likely to follow you back.

Favorite Posts for Google+ - This extension allows you to mark your favorite posts directly from within Google+ for easy reading later. It adds a star beside all posts and puts a favorites menu icon in your sidebar. You can set it to add all +1 posts to your favorites and version 2.6 brings an update that allows it to work within embedded posts as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new tools are released for Google+ in the coming weeks and months. For now you can check out further tools at the Google+ Extension section of the Chrome web store. There is a post planning tool and comment management tools there as well, I just haven't used them myself. You can also check out the Google+ for business page for 3rd party software.

noreply@blogger.com list of social media experts to follow on Google Plus. I'm going to list a few names I've noticed thus far and hope to create a great social media circle out of the deal. I need your help though, I haven't acquired that big a list yet. If you specialize in social media or find the field interesting and end up posting or re-sharing things about social networks, social bookmarking, social search or anything related to the field, please leave a comment below with your details and I'll add you to the list. If you know of any other people as well that you think should be added, I could use all the help I can get.

*note* Just because the names on the list does not mean they don't post on their own individual niches as well, I've either noticed posts by them or their bio has included details stating that they are interested in social media

List of Social Media width="400" />
Alright, it's been awhile since I posted on the whole social networking scene. I used to obsess over it back in 2009 when Google Friend Connect was a valid option and Facebook had just opened their api. I had an alias of "SocialMind" with a website called the Social Arrow at socialarrow.com <--- not there anymore I deleted it and threw my computer in the garbage.

I was paranoid after noticing some of the big players noticing me, and when I say big players, I mean governments. I was gaining traction with some very big names, then I noticed that my computer was constantly being pinged by foreign government, I'm no hacker/programmer(although I did teach myself how to program the Google Friend Connect Wordpress plugin, if you're a coder, yes I know my programming sucks) but it was unnerving when I used a packet sniffer to find this out. I just didn't want the grief of worrying about who was listening to me and tracking my every move. So, like I said - I threw my laptop in the garbage and went back to farriery full time.

It's time to revist the scene for me though. I'm over it. I'm here to learn and help others along the way. Yes I have some pretty strong opinions, but I'm really not all that threatening, nor are my opinions all that uncommon. I had my finger on the pulse of the next big thing back then and people noticed.

It's a lesson in paranoia alright. We're tracked in ways you and I can only imagine nowadays - get used to it. Heck look at what +Matt Cutts just posted on his twitter feed about the NSA and Google if you don't believe me.

Anyways, my whole introductory rant is just that.. an introduction to who I am, where I was, but now, I'm moving forward. This blog isn't meant to be about government, foreign or otherwise. It's about you and I, using the tools we have in this exciting social networking boom to achieve the goals we've set. Don't let them get to you and end up throwing your computer in the garbage like me(haha.. wth right). Let's enjoy this time as much as we possibly can and learn how to interact humanity in new ways that were never even imagined before.
