Hundreds of college students, like you, travel to Boston from all over the northeastern region and spend five days and four nights in Boston’s Sheraton Hotel to have fellowship with one another and to be challenged by God to go out and spread His Word.

The five days include several talks by some awesome speakers and workshops that are conducted in smaller groups and are meant to address some more specific questions you may have about your faith or sharing your faith with many different types of people. In addition to being challenged spiritually and intellectually in these main talks and workshops, there is some great worship happening each day and evening as well as a concert one night put on by a special guest band (Shane & Shane). There are also numerous opportunities for you to meet and engage with other college students from other schools in this region whether it is in the workshops, your meal times or your free times. It is really a great an encouraging time to see so many people like you be so passionate about showing God’s love to the students on their campuses.

SoulFest flex-pay

NEW! Smith will bring his “New Hallelujah World Tour” to the U.S. this fall. Traveling to major markets across the nation in October and November, the tour will feature some very special guests including renowned artist/worshipper Matt Maher, “American Idol” alum Phil Stacey and new artist/worship leader Meredith Andrews.

“The ‘New Hallelujah World Tour’ has taken us all over the U.S., Canada and Europe,” Smith says. “This last leg will bring us back to the States and I’m excited about the artists traveling with me. Matt Maher, Phil Stacey and Meredith Andrews are all artists whose music I really enjoy personally, but they’re also artists I respect because they each have something special to share. I’m thrilled to be sharing the stage with them.”

Kicking off Oct. 22, in Orlando, Fla., the “New Hallelujah World Tour” will introduce a new element to the U.S. tour dates by adding local voices from the community. Each concert will feature a mass community choir comprised of local vocalists and choir members from multiple churches throughout the surrounding area. The choirs will join Smith as he performs classic fan favorites as well as music from his award-winning album A New Hallelujah (10/28/2008) and A New Hallelujah – The Live Worship DVD (3/17/2009).

2009 Photo Montage

With the cold weather closing in fast on New England, its hard to believe that it was only a couple of months ago that we were basking in everything summer had to offer at SoulFest 2009. Having catapulted onto the Christian music scene in 2003 with his debut single, "More"—the most played Christian AC song of 2004—the multi-Dove Award nominee and sought-after songwriter had enjoyed two critically-acclaimed studio recordings, Happy (2003) and History (2005); been a mainstay at Christian radio with memorable hits like "Only Grace," "History" and "Next Thing You Know"; and toured with such artists as tobyMac and BarlowGirl. But in April of 2007, with a new label home at Sparrow Records, concert dates on the books and plans to hit the studio with a fresh batch of songs for an album he'd already titled Something To Say, Matthew lost his voice.

After one look at his vocal chords, doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center immediately put all his plans on hold. They discovered a vascular polyp and hemorrhaged blood vessels on Matthew's vocal chord, making it impossible for him to sing. Skillet pushed one of the oldest stages in central Massachusetts to its limits with a spectacular and energetic performance. The Alive & Awake tour delivered on its promise with 4 bands that each brought a brand of rock that was sure to keep people from falling asleep in their seats (if you even wanted one).

The Letter Black offered a furious pace in their set, getting the crowd moving right from the beginning of the show. And, despite the cramped stage conditions, Decyfer Down kept up the momentum as they hit the stage to play through their amped-up set. Offering a change of pace with a more melodic brand of rock, Hawk Nelson delivered up beat hit songs and plenty of laughs along the way. Finally, Skillet's driving guitars and well-timed, energy rock generated a musical experience that was like a pleasant slap to the face... just enough to get your attention and help you realize that you are Alive and Awake!

Skillet in Worcester

Well just in case you forgot, Saturday is a big day here in Worcester (my home town)! We're not suggesting that this one event is all it's going to take to turn the corner in the lives of kids using or soon to be using drugs, especially heroin. We are saying that we cannot turn a blind eye and stay quiet any longer. Let’s not to hear about another funeral of a 14 year old girl or boy who's body was found behind a school or another teen who has become infected with HIV AIDS from sharing needles, or another family destroyed because they didn't feel they could reach out to you or me and ask for help, for courage, for prayer and for our Love in Action.

At this event, the artists will encourage everyone to be bold and stand against drug use everywhere. A few of the artists, along with 12 year SoulFest therapist Nickey Mullen and her cohorts from H E S (Health and Education Services), will provide a brief pre-show conversation to any group leaders and pastors who wish to learn more about the heroin and drug epidemic. Additionally, in the lobby, there will be a booth and a team of qualified counselors to provide critical information and help to anyone asking.

I know it’s short notice. This idea has just now emerged and we are racing to get the word to you and ask you to engage with us by buying a block of tickets, which will be matched with free tickets. Give the tickets out to young people and families who need your hand of friendship and who by experiencing this concert event and your friendship, find the strength, the information, the resources and the hope to win break free form the grip of drugs. The Gospel message is about True Love, a revolution that wins over teenage depression, drug use, abuse, cynicism, and heroin.

Please call our office today to order a block of tickets. 978 346-4577. We will provide you with flyers and music. Heroin use is on the rise among teenagers in our towns. There is very little parent and child education in the schools, homes, or even in doctors’ offices. The epidemic is growing at an alarming rate! We are called to love one another and be salt and light in our communities. With your help, New Sound Concerts (Sponsors of the Annual SoulFest) and the Newsboys will address the heroin drug epidemic head on and provide this concert event where you can bring your youth and their friends to hear a clear message that TRUE LOVE WINS OVER HEROIN.

What makes the heroin drug crisis an extreme challenge is that it is so readily available in your community for $5 to $10 a bag and most of us find it hard to believe unless we’ve lost a child. Much of the struggle remains hidden, a secret behind the close doors of our neighborhoods and seldom do the parents of struggling teens reach out to their communities, their church leaders and ask for help, until it’s too late.

Click Here to purchase your tickets to see the Newsboys with special guests Seventh Day Slumber and Bread of Stone will be performing a concert at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, Friday, October 9, 7:30 PM.

Websites for additional information:

Massachusetts Substance Abuse Information and Education Hotline 800-327-5050 or www.helponline.com
Parents.
