for Fall

2011-10-02T16:29:00.000-07:00

This is a view down a wide river. It was inspired by my husband and I talking about travel. We love to plan trips, research new places to see, and re-visit old favorites. This fall we are heading to Palm Desert for our first time. Long drive from San Jose, but I am looking forward to taking the eastern route and discovering parts of Central CA I haven't seen before.

5x5 inches on panel. Oil.

This was a challenge for Daily Paintworks. The theme was Fall. I plucked these rose hips from the bush in my front yard. I wonder if I'll ever get the courage to make my own rosehip tea.

Oil on stretched canvas.
6x6 inches.

Villa Montalvo

2011-08-26T13:57:00.000-07:00

This took more than one session to paint- it's bigger and I wanted to allow for more layering with the light and shadow play. I like the straight lines of the bridge railing anchoring the piece from all the jumbly dappled light and leaves surrounding it.

Oil on Panel. Edges are cradled 1 1/2 inches.
Size 16 x 20 inches

the power of yellow

2011-08-21T19:02:00.000-07:00

this one has what I would call "look at me" colors. A term used at my daughter's school in our Art Vista program. I love it- says it all.

8x10 oil on canvas board

this one is more "fussy" than the usual simpler style I paint in but I had a blast doing it. I like smaller brushes right now- lends to more strokes and more detail.

It is for sale at my online gallery

over the hill

2011-08-10T16:15:00.000-07:00

This isn't a term of getting older. It is how we describe the drive to Santa Cruz from where I live. It is a beautiful drive- takes about 20 minutes without traffic and you wind your way through various gaps along the Santa Cruz mountains.
I have driven it hundreds of times but never painted it.

it's my birthday today. I like the coolness of this painting. It was a nice birthday treat to myself to sit for a bit and just feel the water, sunshine and imagine the lapping wake on the boat.

last week

2011-07-25T08:27:00.000-07:00

I painted these last week- water and direction seem to be a theme for the new dock paintings. I am gessoing my own panels now and I like the smooth surfaces. A lot!

so here we go:

I participated in a Great Urban Race last week in the city. We rode on a trolley. I have always wanted to. It was a fun day. I have decided to paint a few trolleys and San Francisco paintings. Here is my trolley.

ACEO trials

2011-07-18T07:38:00.000-07:00

I painted a couple ACEO cards in oil to see what all the fuss is about.

They are fun to do! Fast and you need a tiny tiny brush. Not so much my style but maybe I should simplify. Anyway, here they are

Both sold.
