Welcome to springfest, the spanglish edition. This is where we pretend there are no cold fronts or snow still trying to melt on the ground. This is where that scene from The Secret Garden where everything is blooming takes places. This is where we celebrate the start of spring on April 25th! Grab a seat and enjoy. Today we are discussing five things to celebrate the coming of this mythical season, no matter how delayed it's been. These are my picks and I plan on doing all of them now that higher temps are on the horizon:

How are you celebrating this very awaited season?

Also, Grizz and I are doing the Bark for Life walk in the Anoka area this Saturday so if you're around feel free to stop by, say hi and support the cause!

besos,

I'm bitter, you guys. I want to crawl into a hole, find that liar of a groundhog and punch him in the face. It seems that just when the snow melts and I get my hopes up, more snow falls on us and it is driving me crazy. I am still the eternal optimist though and I am certain spring will come very very soon. In the mean time, I am just going to go ahead and pretend this spring is what it's supposed to be and enjoy it in my head. *I will say this is mostly Pinterest's fault*

I know I have been lazy/absent from this blog but as April starts (what? how did that happen?) I want to show a few of my favorite things from this past month.

First up, is my favorite scent. Ralph by
Ralph Lauren used to be my signature scent in high school/college but I
stopped wearing it because I wanted to play around with other perfumes
to see what else was out there. I recently rediscovered it and love it
just as much as I did before.

My favorite person is Beth,
mainly because we've been saying we need to get together and just
haven't made any official plans and I think that we need to make this
happen, lady!

Rosehip
seed oil is a favorite beauty product and I know I have mentioned it
before when I talked about my skin care regimen but I just can't say
enough great things about it. I started using it on a couple scars from
surgery years ago because it worked on my brother's scars (now you can't
even tell that he ever had accidents) and I know my face is loving it
too. (I have oily skin and it might be counter intuitive but it works!)

I have been snacking on strawberries
non stop every time I need a pick me up. Sometimes I even put the
tiniest bit of sugar and lemon juice and it is delicious. Best snack!

Since
bikini season is coming I have decided I need to take control over
those extra lbs and my two favorite helpers have been these cool little
apps. NTC (Nike Training Club) is great to find all sorts of workouts
depending on your physical level, intensity and what you want to get out
of it (get lean, get toned, get strong, etc) Pretty neat. The other one
is My Fitness Pal and it has changed my whole perception of what I eat
on a daily basis--Who knew a concrete mixer form Culver's was 1000 calories!.
You set your profile with your actual measures/weight, set your goals
and it tells you how many calories you should get daily to achieve that
goal. While it is basically a calorie counter, you don't only enter the
food you eat, but your water consumption and the workouts you've done.
It is crazy comprehensive and really user friendly.

Favorite music category goes to Imagine Dragons. I have been listening to this album pretty much every day and can't get enough of it. Their song Underdog is so good.

As far as hair products go, I have been loving this Garnier Moroccan oil treatment especially before I blow dry. It leaves my hair feeling so luxe and soft and like I did my hair at a salon. I also got the Clear shampoo and conditioner (you know, those Heidi Klum commercials) and I only wash my hair twice a week so I haven't used them that much but I think it's going to be an absolute repurchase for a long time.

Favorite make up product goes to the Revlon Colorstay for oily/combo skin. This is hands down the best foundation I have ever tried and it is drugstore, thank you very much.

Lastly, Revenge. Sundays have never been so good to me. I got JB hooked on it with the first season but then he got bored. I got even more hooked and absolutely look forward to it every week.

Wowzers, that was kind of a long list. What did you love this past month? Let me know in the comments below so I can try new things in April!

besos,

Maca

In my last post I told you guys that I was really excited because little miss spring was right around the corner and I could almost smell her. Well, turns out the bitch took a wrong turn and we just got a blizzard, covering us all in snow, wind and 19 degree weather. Winter has never felt so long and while I have tried to make the best of it by reinventing my winter accessories and heading up north to visit friends, I spend most of my time fantasizing about bright colors and warmer days.

Here's the list of favorite spring things that keep me focused on the nice days to come:

1. Green juices. Not a "spring only" thing but drinking them has put me in a different mood. It makes me feel healthy and it kind of calms my sweet tooth! (if you want a recipe let me know!)

2. Bright lips. The revlon just bitten kissable balm stains are so good and pretty. This one in rendesvouz is the next one I'm getting!

3. Spring scents. During the winter I gravitate more towards warmer smelling candles like baked apple pie or a warm vanilla but this "First Bloom" one is a great option for nicer weather.

4. Nail polish in pastels or brights. This lacey lilac by Sally Hansen is the one I am wearing right now and I love it. Mint nails are great too :)

5. Pretty flats. I love cute boots but I am over having to wear them just to get through the snow. I am thinking my leopard ones will be getting a lot of love once the snow melts.

6. Walks with Grizz. Now, this is the thing I am most looking forward to when spring gets here. I just love going to the park and taking long walks with the pup and JB!

For all of you who are already out of winter, what are you enjoying the most? If you got screwed like me, what are you most excited for once the temps get better?

besos,

You may have gathered by my last post that I am craving warmer temps and happy colors. Well, my starts aligned and the generous people from eShakti contacted me again (see my last review here) to get something new and this time around take more advantage of their amazing customization possibilities.

No surprise here, I chose a fun printed dress with happy colors and I couldn't be happier about it. My hips aren't that wide but I come from the land of the double D's in the upper body department so dresses have always been tricky for me. This was not the case with eShakti because it was tailored to my own measurements and I can tell you, it fits like a dream.

The cute little orange flowers all over just made me so excited for spring to come even sooner and although I wore it "winterized" with a sweater on top, I wanted to show you the cut and the neckline because it is just so pretty. I have always been a little afraid of this type of cleavage because on me it can go on the slutty side far too quickly but since it was made for my body I just went for it and I kinda love it.

If you're looking to get something tailored to you I definitely recommend eShakti. They have great pieces (dresses, skirts, tops, jackets, you name it!) and not only can you enter your specific body measurements but you can also adjust the piece to whatever feels more like you (I ordered this dress to hit above the knee, but you can do mini skirt or knee length and even change the neckline and sleeve type!)

They were even more generous to offer 20% off to the readers of this little ol' blog here so if you go there before 03/10/13 you can enter the code thespnglsh and get the discount!

What do you think of the dress? Have you tried eShakti yet?

Maca

Update* there was a glitch that affected the discount codes so now that it has been fixed, eShakti is offering to honor the code until March 20th! :)

PS. Code has to be entered in the 'Promotional Code' box. No Minimum Order
Value. The discount code is not case sensitive. The code can be used
any number of times until the validity period. This code can be clubbed
with any other gift coupon or gift card in the same order. This
discount code is not applicable on our Overstock category. Not
applicable on previous purchases.

JB and I have been talking about moving to a different apartment in the somewhat near future so I have been gathering pinspiration for organization and decor. As I chose my favorite images for this post I realized that the main theme is color. I could probably blame it on the delicious promise of upcoming spring but in reality I just think good neutral pieces with colorful accents feel fun and happy and it is just so much easier to call a new place home when it can put a smile on your face just by looking at it.

I think the main thing for me is to invest in the bigger pieces, focusing on somewhat classic shapes and neutral colors, saving a little in more trendy accents that will make each room come together. This way if there comes a time where I want to change the feel of the room I can switch up the little details without breaking the bank.

What do you think of this inspiration? Are you craving color and spring like me or do you go for more neutral/classic styles when it comes to your home decor? Please share because any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Plus I just love looking at pretty homes.

You can find more inspiration on my Pinterest boards and if you want to share yours, leave them in the comments below!

Half of January is gone and I have to say it hasn't been too terrible. JB and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary on Saturday (though really it was Sunday) and went to Mystic Lake Casino for a fun night. I had never been to one before and it was a very casual affair so I totally forgot to take outfit pics before we left the house. I gambled 20 bucks and with wins and loses it lasted me pretty much all night--if you follow me on instagram you saw what a huge prize I took home.

Anyway, this post is really more about 2 amazing drugstore finds that I just can't get enough of lately. Both of these were products mentioned by Elle (check her out, girl never disappoints), who did a "what's new at the drugstore" post and they totally grabbed my attention so I decided to check them out myself.

First of all, there's the Maybelline color tattoo metal eyeshadow in "inked in pink". This sounded genius to me for two reasons: I own and love the "bad to the bronze" shade and wear it all the time AND I had been thinking about getting a pink shadow after deciding that it looks really nice on dark eyed girls. If you haven't tried the color tattoo eyeshadows--do you live under a rock?--they are well pigmented, apply nicely and stay on for a long time. The packaging is still the same of the previous color tattoo shadows: simple, durable and lets you see the color nicely.

The second product I wanted to share are the new Maybelline Color Whisper lipsticks. I am pretty sure they are supposed to be the competition to the Revlon Lip Butters but to me there is no contest. Hands down these Color Whisper lipsticks are the bomb. I really like the lip butters because of how soft + moisturizing they feel and the colors were pretty but the finish had an almost pearly shine to them that I didn't love on me--but for some reason I felt like on everyone else was lovely. These Color Whispers are just as soft, with amazing colors and have a great sheen without the pearl effect. I got the shade "go nude" which is the least pigmented color they had just because I wanted to try one before buying them all and then regretting it afterwards and I have to say I am totally going back for every.single.one. Watch out ladies, I predict an addiction if you're into lip stuff.

Let me know if you've tried these and what shades do you like the best in the comments! Have you bought any Holy Grail products lately? share the love!

besos,

Maca

PS.- I got mine at CVS because they were having great extrabucks rewards on maybelline but you can find them at most drugstores/Target.

JB and I just came back home from the vet because Grizz was sick. She's feeling better now that she got fluids and medicine and we think she'll celebrate the beginning of a new year a little bit healthier. I still wanted to wish you all a great year's end and the start of a new one full of wonderful blessings and experiences for all of you.

2012 was a good year. It had ups, downs and it taught me a thing or two. Overall I feel blessed for everything I've been given in this life and I am grateful to you guys for sharing a little part of this journey with me. I hope 2013 comes packed full of all your dreams coming true.

See you next year!

I've been watching my skin and hair change before my eyes for a while without even knowing how or why. As I started to analyze this, I realized this is just what happens as we get a little older and our skin and hair just isn't as resilient as it was in high school and gets damaged way more easily--or at least mine does. Besides the age factor, my skin and hair have taken Minnesota winters really hard. I had never experienced this type of dryness and cold before coming to MN and my sensitive skin is definitely complaining. Add that to the fact that I stopped taking birth control pills and my hormones are just.plain.crazy.
For some reason, it has taken me a while to accept the fact that these things are not going to get better on their own but now that I have, I am a girl on a mission to find products that help me take care of my thin, broken hair and my new skin both on my body and on my face.

Now that I am taking control of these issues I want to share the process with you since I know these are things that affect not only me, but a lot of you out there too. Here's what's going on:

FACE. I never had acne in my teen years and I could get away with washing my face once or twice a week. Now, my face is oily, sensitive and--thanks to no more birth control pills--full on acne-prone. I am talking painful cysts and nodules on my chin, jaw and neck. I had an episode of this years ago due to stress-induced hormone imbalance and I am going back to what my dermatologist recommended then, plus the addition of a face brush for mornings. I ordered the products and haven't yet started but I know how amazing they made my face last time so I'm expecting good results. I will also update with future progress. [1 and 2 in the morning, 3 and 4 at night]

1, 2, 3, 4

BODY. contrary to my face, the skin on my body is painfully dry. It can get flaky and ashy and super itchy. I have always struggled with this, especially because all my allergies cause skin reactions and when it's dry it can tend to bleed but I have found two things that help my most sensitive areas. I should say one of the reasons I love my trusty doctor is that she used to work at a hospital in a high poverty area so she recommends a lot of inexpensive yet super effective products. [I sometimes use the oil on my face and I can definitely see a difference]

1, 2

HAIR. my hair has always been thin and I tend to lose a lot of it. It's also really dry, I'm guessing the fact that I went through a really OCD period of my life in high school where I had to shower at least twice a day (and wash my hair every time) definitely made an impact. Now, besides being dry and thin, it has become dull, flat and won't grow, like at all. This is the part that I'm not really sure yet what products are best. I understand salts and sulfates are a big no no and I have been doing my research about silicone in shampoos but I haven't really pinpointed any specific products that might help. So, any advice for hair issues?

If you guys are part of the lucky people with none of these issues I applaud you. But, if you are among those of us who struggle for better skin and hair, let me know in the comments below. If I inspired any of you to try some of these products that have helped me then I feel like my work is done.

Lastly, if you've had any of these problems and have found holy grail products that have made your life better, please let me know! Suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

besos,
So, I'm a little behind here because this is what I wore for JB's birthday. It was less special than I wanted to make it because he got his present about 2 weeks before and since his parents came to the cities for Thanksgiving we had his cake early too. We still managed to make it nice and something out of the routine so it was a good time. I will say that back pains and stomach issues have been prominent since last week and if that is any anticipation for the year to come I think it's safe to say he's getting old way too early :)
December is definitely one of my favorite months and while the holiday cheer was perfectly paired with bikini season in the southern hemisphere, the romanticism of a white Christmas is definitely something to consider.

Plus I love Christmas shopping.

I need to preface this entry by telling you now that I am not doing a gift guide type of post today because while I do think they are wonderful and I have been inspired by other bloggers' finds in the past, I get a little overwhelmed when everyone is doing it at the same time. If anything, I'll post sporadic finds for your holiday needs that I may come across from here to Christmas.

Now that I got that out of the way, let's get to it.

I had been conflicted with finding a gift
for a certain Secret Santa that I don't really know too well and the
budget limit for the gift was $20. Today that changed. This ELF nail polish cube comes with 14 different polishes and it will cost you $10. I mean how amazing is that! I am actually thinking of getting one for myself too. I saw it on pinterest and immediately knew it would make an amazing gift or stocking stuffers if you divide them up for all your girlfriends.

I am only hoping that sharing this on the interwebs won't make it so popular that when I go get one (or two) they will be gone. Leave one for me, Target shoppers, okay?

Do you have any great budget holiday finds for others or for yourself?

besos,

I have always loved these colors together but always felt way too loud on me so when color blocking came around I was really excited. It took me a while because I still felt like all eyes would be on me and it made me a little uncomfortable. Luckily, the blogosphere has made it easier for me to get used to unusual color combos or prints and now they feel a little more normal and less like I'm the only girl dancing on a table and everybody is looking at me with a puzzled face. Not that it has ever happened to me. I have never danced on tables by myself.

I digress.

When I saw this picture on Pinterest I knew I had to recreate it. I know, such a copycat. I would apologize, except I don't have an ounce of remorse. I love the end result and while it is not the exact same combo as Kendi, this outfit makes me feel happy and girly and fun and a little festive too since this is what I wore for Thankgiving dinner. Success!

Hope you guys had a wonderful holiday!

In a previous post I told you about my quest for fashionable and functional jackets and while I have seen many that I adore, I wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger on any. Does it happen to any of you that when you're looking for one specific item and you find many you love and you get overwhelmed and decide not to get anything until it's the ultimate holy grail jacket/bag/shoes/bedding/toothbrush? I feel like it makes no sense because it's not like you're never ever ever ever <strike>getting back together</strike> going to buy another jacket/bag/shoes/bedding/toothbrush ever again so just get one. Maybe my mind goes into 5-year-old-brat mode and if I can't have them all I won't bother with just one? Or maybe I'm just really awful at making decisions.

Lucky for me, the people at eShakti contacted me to see if I wanted to try any item in their collections and I just happened to fall in love with this really pretty, sparkly, pointy hem-y black jacket and couldn't pass it up!

They have standard sizes and also customizable options which is awesome. I went with the standard sizing this time and ordered a size based on my boobs which I always do. In hindsight I should have taken advantage of the fact that they can adjust the item to your own measurements, because the jacket ended up being a tiny bit big/long on me.

I have to say I still love it. Love the little sparkles on the fabric, the pointy details on the front hem and the weight of it. I think it's perfect for a dressier affair with skirts or dresses and it can also work with jeans. I also love that a dressy black jacket is kind of a staple in a girl's closet and this puts me a step closer to having a functional wardrobe :)

Have you gone jacket-crazy this season? Thankful that I have more than one to keep me warm during the cold. Happy Thanksgiving folks!

besos,

PS. Grizzly wants me to tell you she turned 1 on Saturday. That is the only reason she's being so involved in the shoot :)

Americans get to vote today. They get to choose the future of their country for the next four years. I realize the vote is private and personal but I thought I should share this for you to keep in mind on the day when you choose not only who you want to guide and lead your people but also, what they--and you--stand for.
I think I told you guys that we were going to Nebraska for the weekend. One of JB's roommates from college was getting married and we couldn't miss it. We left Friday morning and even though it is supposed to be about 9 hours, our friend C drove for most of the way and we probably did the whole thing in about 7.30 which was kind of awesome and kind of scary--A semi almost drove us off the road, eek!

The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was so much fun! I didn't take too many pictures but I did want to show you the outfit. Sorry about the lame hotel room pictures.

Dress and Clutch: H&M, Shoes: Charlotte Russe, Belt: from a F21 dress. Jewelry: (not pictured).

We didn't take pictured of the back which is really cute and has a tiny vertical opening at the top and sealed with a small bow, but oh well hopefully you can picture it.

On a different topic, I wanted to thank Beth for the sunshine award she gave me and answer her fun questions! I know this was over a week ago but better late than never I guess!

1. You are stranded on a deserted island with only five songs on your
iPod - what five songs are you going to listen to on repeat?

This one is hard for me because I honestly change my playlist all the time. A song that comes to mind this second is Your Love by The Outfield. I don't know what it is about it but I get pumped everytime I hear it. Piano Man is also a good one and a personal karaoke favorite.

2. Have you heard of that show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate?" What would you say if you were on that show?

Honestly, I have to say my grandma's empanadas! I have her recipe and make them exactly like she does but I can not for the life of me make them taste like hers (They're still good, don't worry).

3. Where is your favorite place to shop for shoes?

I guess it depends on what kind of shoes I'm looking to buy. For fun and trendy I tend to go to Charlotte Russe because they have really cute and fun shoes but if I'm looking for shoe closet staples then I'll invest more money on them.

4. Is there a fictional character (say on television) whose style you admire?

I don't know if this counts but I love Heather Dubrow from the OC Housewives! I also love the girls from Pretty Little Liars and Ashley from Revenge.

5. Would you rather be a pirate or a ninja?

A ninja! It requires motor skills that I don't have, lol.

6. Have you jumped on board with the Kindle/Nook craze or do you still like a book in your hands? Or maybe you do both?

JB has a kindle and I borrow it all the time. I really like it except on the drive from Nebraska on Sunday it made me super carsick.

7. What is your favorite magazine, if you have one?

I don't think I have one particular one, to be honest. I like a lot of them though :)

8. Do you wear sunscreen every day like they recommend we all should?

Nooooo! I am so bad at this. I totally should, I know.

9. What is the worst movie you've ever seen?

OMG I really don't know. I know I've seen pretty bad ones but I seriously can't think of any right now!

10. Do you have a favorite type of cookie? What is it? Will you bake me some?

This may sound super lame but the raspberry-cheesecake cookie from subway is just addicting. If I bake some you're totally invited :)

I won't be tagging anyone for the sunshine award because so many blogs bring me joy when I read them that I'll just leave it open for any of you who might want to join in and answer these questions!

besos,

Our weekend was fantastic. The first part of the fall inspiration list was a hit. Friday night JB took me to his aunt's house for our Girl's Night Out while he went with the pup to hang out at his brother's place where Grizz had 2 other doggy friends to get exhausted with. The girls and I drank wine, had some snacks and crafted and I'm pretty sure the boys just hang out watching tv. Everyone had fun and we made it home pretty late.

Saturday morning was a bit lazy but at night we got together with some friends and went to Gasthof's for Oktoberfest! I had never been to Gasthof's before, or had German food for that matter, but it totally surpassed any expectations I may have had. I have to say, they are pretty intense about their rules for passing Das Boot around. I forgot to say hi to the boot the first time or to flick it when I was done so I felt pretty silly but it was such a great time that I didn't mind being the dork. I also kinda liked the snuff shooter: cleared my breathing and feeling illegal was super fun, ha!

Sunday we went to Ihop. That's it. Argo movie date had to be postponed due to much needed recovery time.

Now for part deux of my fall inspiration I thought I'd do fashion pieces that are on my "wishful thinking" list of things. Some are in my foreseeable future, others not so much. I thought I'd list items that would inspire me and give rise to a better relationship with my actual closet in the mornings.

1. Faux leather jacket in a soft color. I already have a faux leather jacket in black and I never wear it because it looks too harsh on me (and the collar doesn't suit me) so I thought a neutral and soft color like this one with a more drape-y collar would work wonders.

2. Contrast cargo jacket with faux leather sleeves. We've all been
seeing the cargo jacket on every other blogger and I thought this was a
fun alternative while still being super versatile. You can find this one
here.

3. Coated jeans. This is something that I wanted to get last season too but didn't want to invest in a pair since I thought the trend wouldn't last that long (guess I just really know my stuff, lol) and the cheap ones really looked cheap. Still debating on it but this pair is amazing, don't you think?

4. Wedge Sneakers. This is another trend that has been around for a while. The issue was that none of the dupes for the Isabel Marant originals made the cut for me until I saw these ones. Perfect shape, perfect price and the pink/taupe/teal color combo just pulls at my heart. They might be on my Christmas list.

5. Cozy scarves. This particular one is about $400 over what I'm willing to spend on accesories like these but I loved the oversized chunky feel of it, Plus the colors are happy without being to obnoxious for fall and winter.

6. Berry lips. This doesn't technically go in my closet but make up is a good part of what makes me happy when I look in the mirror in the morning and I'm loving all the berry/wine hues this season. Not sure I can pull it off but this Dior Addict in Black Tie Plum is sooo tempting.

7. Faux fur trim cardigan. I was thinking faux fur vest or coat but for a fur virgin like myself baby steps might be the way to go. Plus this is burgundy so you get double the trendy factor.

8. Black ankle boots. I can't believe I don't own a pair. They are classic yet feel fresh and current. Plus this pair is perfectly budget-friendly.

It's kind of a long list but these pieces are inspiring me and hopefully they will help me think of ways I can shop my own closet and give new life to my own clothes.

Where have you been getting inspiration from lately? do you like these pieces?

besos,

ps. we're headed to Nebraska this weekend for a wedding so I'm planning on lots of fun + a "fancier" outfit post soon.

You guys, I have been in such a funk! JB says I have seasonal depression disorder and as much as I know he's kidding, sometimes I feel like the colder months can seriously get me stuck in a rut of dark and boring clothes. Before fall got here I was super pumped about boots and layering and all things burgundy and while I do have fun new fall pieces I still find myself hating my closet in the morning and reaching for blacks and greys as it feels like Minnesota skipped this season entirely and decided to shoot straight for winter. No offense Mother Nature but if you were going to be the overachiever you could have just gone right away to spring, thank you very much.

At least it's not snowing, right?

To get out of this rut and get excited for fall again, I've decided to be grateful and remind myself--and any of you who might be feeling this way--of the awesome things that this season offers:

1. Beautiful weekend mornings with Grizzly and JB. Even though mornings have been under 40 degrees, this pup just has way too much energy to skip the doggy park so bundle up we do, and to be honest fall just has a magical way of making nature look so darn pretty.

2. Going to a pumpkin patch and corn maze. This is on my to do list because I've never been to one and there is no such thing in Chile (or maybe nobody told me?).

3. Apple picking. Also on my fall bucket list due to the fact that apple pie is one of JB's favorite treats and it reminds me of home--every summer we'd spent a couple weeks at my grandpa's sister place in the south and there was a beautiful and gigantic apple orchard. Awesome place to play hide n seek as a kid, y'all.

4. Pumpkin goodies. I have to say this is an acquired taste for me but I am planning on using this recipe for making my own pumpkin spice latte for those cold days.

5. Dates with the husband. Granted, this has never been a fall-only activity, but I always love spending time with this guy. This weekend we have dinner plans with friends on Saturday and a movie date to see Argo on Sunday (tomorrow is girl's night out though and he is not invited).

6. Lastly, I am excited about planning JB's birthday next month! he's turning 28 and last year he complained about me not baking him a cake so I want to do something special and pinterest has been very helpful, as usual.

Do you guys ever get stuck with "dark and boring" during cold season or is it just me?

Let me know what you guys are excited about this fall!

besos,

I know that technically I shouldn't be wearing shorts because it's October (can you believe it?!) and summer is long gone but since it was so nice and warm this weekend in the Twin Cities I thought I would milk it for all it was worth. So here you have my last hurrah for shorts. I wore this on Sunday when JB and I went to see "Looper" which we really liked--I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an amazing actor--and we later went to get sushi for lunch. Yes, I said sushi for lunch after the movie because JB is a grandpa and likes to go early and avoid any lines.

I have to say I have been wearing these flats almost everyday since I got them which was right around the time when I got my ankle boots (seen here and here) and by now leopard is really starting to play a neutral role with my outfits. I love how it's not flashy yet adds a little spice to everything. I have also been loving this striped top which I got on my recent haul from H&M--haul post to come--and I just know it will become my go to top. The thickness and the fabric is just perfect for me and I think the neckline is lovely.

Do you have any new pieces that you feel will make a constant rotation on your outfits from now on?

Have a great week!

besos,

I had a little stop at H&M
yesterday and I am so happy with what I got! They are having a
mid-season sale and I found some awesome pieces that will come in
handy--especially a perfect-sized black clutch and a cute floral
shift dress (for $10 each!) which will probably be worn next month when
we go to Nebraska for a friend's wedding.

I had intended to get colored skinny jeans from Old Navy since they are having a sale on those as well (for $19!) but I was looking for a burgundy tone (or oxblood for you fancy folks) and they had two shades that were kind of, sort of
what I wanted but definitely more purple-y than I was looking for but
hey, they're on sale, right? Anyway, when I tried them on they were way
too low rise for my taste so I passed. Thankfully I found the perfect
burgundy skinnies at H&M which I'm sure will be evidenced on here
soon, so YAY! I also found this striped skirt which wasn't on sale but was pretty perfect length and for 6 bucks I will take it!

I'm thinking of doing a haul post because I did get a bunch of stuff so let me know if you'd be interested in seeing that!
Have you been shopping lately? What are your favorite recent purchases?

besos,
Maca

ps. as I'm looking at the pictures, my nail polish looks a little more orange than in real life (which is just a classic red) but I am totally digging it and might have to look for a hue like that. Anyone know of a good nail polish that looks like this in real life?
By Maca

Happy Monday!

Hope you guys had a fantastic weekend. Ours was pretty fun! We got a really good deal on a new-to-us Ford Escape and we're pretty excited about it. We discovered a couple dog parks we hadn't been to and Grizz had the time of her life. If you live in Minneapolis/St Paul you should defintiely check out Battle Creek Park. It's beautiful and huge and even has a few ponds for the pups to swim in and while your dogs will probably get very dirty, they'll be happy and tired and will love you forever.

Rachel Bilson had nothing to do with our weekend but hers is the outfit the Two Birds chose for Inspiration Monday and this is the first time I am playing along. Now, I should warn you: mine is a very loose interpretation of this outfit since I don't have a cargo jacket yet and my take on it is a little brighter.

Years ago, I decided to follow my heart and then-boyfriend to a very mysterious land. That's right, the intriguing state of Minnesota. I had only been to New York city, Miami/Orlando and mountain towns in Colorado and at the time MN seemed like a very foreign place for a Chilean. Alas, the heart wants what the heart wants and there I was in a 10 hour flight to Minneapolis/St Paul--although technically it was 10 hours to DFW (Dallas) and then 3 or 4 hours to MSP.

I tell you this because I read a funny (to me) Jeff Foxworthy joke about Minnesota and it made me appreciate the fact that out of all the places I could have ended up, fate would have Minnesota be my home.

Here's what he had to say:

If someone in a home depot store offers you assistance and they don't work there, you may live in Minnesota.

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live in Minnesota.

If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Minnesota.

If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again, you may live in Minnesota.

If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you may live in Minnesota.

If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Minnesota.

If you design your kid's halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you may live in Minnesota.

If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph, you're going 80 and everyone else is passing you, you may live in Minnesota.

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you may live in Minnesota.

If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you may live in Minnesota.

If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you may live in Minnesota.

If you actually understand these jokes and share them with your MN friends, you definitely live in Minnesota!

Share in the comments if you love Minnesota and have a fabulous weekend!

About 4 months ago my friend Anna got a sweet coupon from Living Social--one of those groupon deal sites--for half off tickets to a Fajitas & Margaritas cruise on lake Minnetonka. It took us a really long time to plan because we could only use it on certain days and our schedules weren't super cruise friendly. In the end it resulted in the perfect way to say goodbye to summer. It was perfect weather and though it was a little packed we still had plenty of food and drinks and fun cruising around the lake and looking at all the beautiful and gigantic houses that we'll never be able to buy--who wants to walk 10 miles to take out the trash anyway?

We only remembered to take pictures towards the end of it and the margaritas had already taken effect so when we asked a lady to take our pictures outside they all ended up super blurry but a lovely crew member offered to take a couple quick ones inside (sorry they are a little dark!--the second one is an iphone pic)

Have you ever gone on a day cruise? This was my first time and I definitely recommend it if you're in the area!

besos,

Maca

ps. the girl that took our picture cropped our feet (I hate that!) but here's a fun fact: everyone was wearing flat shoes except for me with 5'' wedges and I am still the shortest. These guys are giants, but I love them anyway :)

By Maca

feel inside [and stuff like that]

With the temps cooling down and the promise of crispy fall air I find myself daydreaming of everything cozy. And while I am sad to let go of my flip flops and breezy tops let's face it, the beginning of this wonderful season ahead has the little fashionista in me making a--super graceful--happy dance celebrating layers and boots and all things burgundy. Of course this fashion-tracked mind gets a lot of help. My style board on Pinterest is the one to blame for me getting these ankle boots recently. Well, Pinterest and the fact that they were around $25. They are cute and comfy and versatile and I have all sorts of outfits in my head already that will work perfectly for fall with these lovelies. I should thank all the bloggers/celebrities with outfit images online who have worn them already because now I get to steal your looks and be all kinds of stylish.

On a random note, remember when I went on a girl's weekend a while back? I left post it notes for JB all over the apartment for him to find when he got home.I tell myself he likes little details like that but I am still not sure if he even saw them because they are still up on the walls. I should probably take them down just to see if he notices though he probably won't. So clueless, how can I not love him?

ps. So sorry about the quality of these pictures, guys. JB wasn't around to play photographer and I feel silly asking the neighbors to take photos of me. Also, can you spot a doggy ear? Grizz was deciding whether or not to photo bomb these pics but I guess she couldn't make up her mind?

How do you feel about ankle boots? I used to not be a fan so let me know what you think!

besos,

Looking at the food baby in the pictures above I just want to go on record and say measures are being taken and I started a Couch to 5k program! I'm on day 3 (you do it every other day) and it has been a great starter pace since I do not run since high school and even then I sucked at it. I thought Grizzly would love it but apparently, she has a problem with the whole concept of intervals. It still is a good workout and gets her really tired and gives me a sense of accomplishment. Little victories, people.

What are you up to this week?
