Last month, I received a beautiful skein of Mango Moon yarn in a swap. I decided to try another shawlette, this time for myself. The Age of Brass and Steam kerchief (ravelry link – I’ll post a more open link to my project page when I update it) looked like a nice one, and I probably had all the yardage I needed. So I cast on and started off.

Have I mentioned that I’m a little…unrealistic when it comes to estimating yardage? No? Well, take a look at this picture.

See that stripe there? That’s some of my handspun, when I realized it wouldn’t even be close to enough yardage to finish. I used the Mango Moon at the final garter stitch border and the cast off.

I like the way it looks, but I’m sure it looks a little weird to other people. I don’t really care that much – if I did, I would have either frogged it or ordered another skein myself.

That is one of the projects I made several years ago, while this blog was temporily dormant. Now that my other blog is gone, well…

Hi again. Not all of the blogs center on atheism, but they all have one thing in common… I promise I will write as many posts dealing with my atheism as I do about adoptive porenting. At least for the past month or so. Some, but not much. Meanwhile I need to put up a post about some FOs.

You might notice that I put this in the “political” category. As we have seen from the events of yesterday in NC and CO, well…you seem like a mighty smart bunch. I’ll let you figure it out.

Here’s how it turned out:

It feels pretty soft. Softer than I had imagined. But I think it’ll stand up to some wear.

The plying went surprisingly quickly, considering what a PITA it is to spin 6 oz. of fine singles to make up a sport weight yarn. But it was much easier to make a balanced yarn than a 2 ply would have been.

Dyeing was exciting. The day I picked was warm, but not warm enough to open all the windows. Fortunately, I was able to cook up a pot of yarn (roughly 1/2 lb) without choking to death on the fumes. It was worth it, though. No, not very Goth; it’s not the blood color I was looking for, because there wasn’t enough blue in the final mix. But there’s always next time. And there’s enough to make a pair of socks.

I’ve been working on an Amazon warrior, but I really really dislike sewing all the little bits together at the end. So she’s not quite finished.

Amigurumi is something that’s been fun for me. A likes most of the things I make (I couldn’t figure out where the Trojan and Spartan were to take pictures of them; they were on her dresser), so that’s been more rewarding than making actual clothing for her.
I’ve also been thinking about other things as well. Like designing something of my own. Right now, I have to focus on this next week, chock-full of all sorts of visits to all sorts of exciting medical professionals. Damn. Near. Every day. So that has to wait.
