Well, just as we were preparing ourselves for an agonising end to the season, this last week has provided quite the twist, eh? Obviously it's still going to be agonising, because it's Leeds United, but after a long-awaited league win at Old Trafford and a trip to Wembley on the horizon it could also be... amazing?

Plus taking over London, unlikely goalkeeping heroes, a happy reunion with Marcelo Bielsa and the perils of misplaced nostalgia

But we're taking a break from the present day concerns at Elland Road, because 25 years ago Leeds United swaggered around Europe on their way to the Champions League semi-finals. Nobody ever mentions it, so we've taken a big look back at the adventures of the campaign.

After issue four was devoted to the iconic 1992 title-winning midfield, we've got a lot to catch up on in the current world of Leeds United. Comebacks against Man City, wins against Chelsea, points against Liverpool and Scum, a fancy new formation and the same old manager — who we now like so much again that he's our cover star, as illustrated by the excellent Emily Tartanella.

As we all know December 25th is the birthday of our Lord and saviour, Gary McAllister, so what better way to celebrate than a magazine devoted to the midfield that defined Leeds United becoming the Last Champions of English football?

This mini-special, which comes with a choice of one of four covers, features over fifty pages more than a regular issue and has a lovely spine, so the cover price is slightly more expensive at £4 (all that for just a quid extra!). It's still included in your annual subscription though, so for the best deal sign up to TSB+ Mag and get our regular magazines for £1 per issue (plus postage).

Inside the mag, you'll find from your favourite regular contributors:

Bryn Law on following Leeds United and Wales and his friendship with Gary Speed

The Hitchers' Niall Quinn tells Rob Conlon about the "bastard hangover" that inspired one of the greatest football songs of all time — 'Strachan'

What we can learn about life from the best and funniest quotes in David Batty's autobiography

Tony Dorigo lifts the lid on sharing pitches and changing rooms with each player

Calum Archibald explains why, growing up supporting Leeds and Scotland, Gary McAllister was footballing royalty as both player and manager

The Original. Is Back...

Oscar Wilde once said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Well, not only have we relaunched our Lowfields football shirt, we have now released it as a LIMITED EDITION big boy, long-sleeved option.

Not just, as some my say, a nod to the iconic Lowfields tunnel, but an explosion of the famous, multi-coloured tile pattern across a football shirt, representing true fan culture. Admiral, of course, have been making beautiful football shirts ever since they got started with Don Revie’s Leeds back in the 1970s, and we’re delighted to be working with them again.

We’ve worked with them to get the tile detail just right, to recreate that almost got to the ground, finding some cash to buy our fanzine - where it has been sold since 1989. You could say, the Lowfields tunnel is in our DNA.

Here’s local poet Matt Abbott wearing it in some pictures that our photographer Lee Brown took on the Lowfields.

Our 2025 Christmas jumpers are here and in stock - but if recent years are anything to go by, they won't be for long!

This year's design is a nod to the 1989 yellow away kit. A beautiful kit and a beautiful Leeds United midfield packed with David Batty, Vinnie Jones, Chris Kamara, Gary Speed and Gordon Strachan. A much simpler time too, when everyone agreed that digging a tunnel to Europe was a great idea, the Berlin Wall came down and Tim Berners-Lee invented something called the World Wide Web. Which all turned out just fine.

We love the current players, right? We love old retro Leeds kits, right? Then why not peruse some of our current squad looking cooler than Steve McQueen sat on an iceberg, in some of our most loved kits from years gone by.

Twelve glorious illustrations to see you right through 2026. Some of the players may or may not even be here by next August but should they leave, let's just focus on those kits. The beautiful kits.

As these causes are very close to our hearts here at The Square Ball, 100% the profits from the Calendars will once again be donated to the Leeds Cancer Centre and the Leeds Breast Cancer Research Action Group - through our friends at the Leeds Hospitals Charity based at St James's Hospital, Leeds.

Since 2018, you have helped to raise over £25,000 for the Leeds Hospitals Charity from the sales of our calendars, so we thank you for your continued support. We also thank our pool of super talented illustrators for their hard work.

You’ve read all the facts you’ll ever need to know about Leeds United, now read the fiction. TSB legacy contributor Jon Howe adds to his canon of Leeds United writing with his first novel, which is set to take a worthy position among the best Leeds United fiction around.

Days of Treacle is a sensitive and whimsical story about a male friendship rooted in football
and counterculture.

Being different and being Leeds United fans is what drives Tom and Lewis, but Tom wants to
rebuild his mental health after an early setback in his life. Along with his charismatic pet dog
Wilko, Tom is doing his best to traverse middle age and takes comfort from a deep and
dependent connection with his best friend Lewis. But a missing Leeds United medal and a
new relationship doesn’t make that easy, putting Tom’s health, love life and lifelong
friendship at risk.

Days of Treacle is soaked in pathos, contrariness and self-deprecation. Set in Leeds from the
1980s to the present day, this story follows Tom’s battles with loneliness, anxiety,
relationships, age, Leeds United and waiting for the two blue ticks to appear on WhatsApp
messages, and is told with a satirical perception that anyone similarly affected can relate to.

Leeds United fans will find stories about trying to become a full-time apprentice footballer at
Leeds United in the 1980s, finding a lifelong spirit of defiance from the embers of Paris 1975,
meeting Billy Bremner, meeting Eric Cantona, travelling home and abroad to follow Leeds
United and all the madness that brings, and how the lead character Tom’s life intertwines
with the timeline of Leeds United’s modern history.

This is a personal voyage and discovery story with warmth, dark humour, intrigue, struggle,
romance, accusations, loss and recovery. And as you would expect from a book about two dedicated
and world-weary Leeds United fans, Days of Treacle leaves you believing there is nothing you
