Retro Fonts : the real thing

One of my serious on-going complaints in the graphic arts industry is the use of the term “retro” — fewer and fewer designers actually know what it means. We’re seeing literally hundreds of tutorials titled retro-this or retro-that. So, listen up young designers: here’s the quintessential reference on the use of ‘retro’ fonts. In fact, it’s called RETROFONTS!

Graphic design icon Steven Heller writes in his New York Times column :

A graphic designer can’t have too many books of typography. These specimen books nourish and replenish, inform and delight. I own more than 100 type catalogs and manuals dating to the late 19th century, and I know other designers (or design lovers) who have compiled even larger and rarer stashes. This holiday season, it’s a safe bet that type books will be welcome gifts for font-aholics everywhere.

Retrofonts is a huge, hardbound, collectable tome of font samples from the middle of the nineteenth century and the end of the twentieth century. Every single page is a visual treat of font sets or splendid art samples of the actual fonts in use.

Arranged chronologically, every section provides a historical, political and cultural context for the eras during which these fonts were created. When you find the perfect font that meets your needs it can help you achieve that ideal finished product for both you and your client. Check out this list of font websites with both free and paid fonts for download.

Where to Find Holiday Fonts

The right holiday font can complete your holiday or New Year’s card. A holiday greeting is also a good opportunity to use some of the more fun or unusual typefaces that you may have avoided for client projects. These websites have holiday and New Year’s-themed fonts for download. Be sure to review the usage instructions for any font before using it.

Jos Buivenga’s exljbris Font Foundry

Jos Buivenga’s exljbris Font Foundry offers a great, varied collection of font downloads, from the hugely popular Museo font to Anivers, originally created for Smashing Magazine. While all of the fonts have at least one free style, you’ll often find yourself coming back to purchase the full font family.

Download Free Fonts from Dinc Type

Dinc Type offers a great selection of free fonts for download. While a much smaller selection than other “free font” sites, the Dinc Type fonts are interesting and well-designed, making the site a nice stop when you don’t feel like sorting through thousands of typefaces for something new to work with.

Free Fonts for Download from UrbanFonts.com

UrbanFonts.com is a well-designed free font website with over 8,000 freeware fonts for download. UrbanFont’s attractive site makes browsing fonts easier than on some of the other free font sites. Top font keyword searches are highlighted on the home page in a “cloud” format, along with featured free downloads. Fonts can be browsed alphabetically or by categories such as “gothic” and “futuristic.”

Free Fonts for Download from Dafont.com

Dafont is a free font website offering freeware, shareware, demo and public domain typefaces. The most recent new fonts are always presented on the home page, though the easiest way to find a font that suits your needs is to browse one of dafont’s many themes, such as “western” or “sci-fi.” The “top 100” also reveals a nice, varied selection of fonts. Once viewing a category of fonts, the simple yet powerful interface allows you to preview text of your choice in all of the typefaces, with variants (such as bold and italic) if you choose.

Essential Fonts for Graphic Design on Linotype

A list of essential fonts for a graphic designer, including some of the most popular and commonly used typefaces. While many of these fonts come installed with your computer, this list includes links to purchase the full font families on Linotype.com. Linotype allows users to view fonts by category, usage, theme, libraries and foundries.

Fonts.com

Fonts.com gives users access to 150,000 fonts. It has an interesting feature called “Search by Sight” that allows you to identify fonts by their appearance. Users are asked a number of questions that will help them identify what font they are looking for based on the sample they have. “Search by Sight” then gives the users a list of fonts to look at to see if one matches what they searching for.

Veer

Veer.com Veer features typefaces prominently in their navigation, alongside photography and illustration. Users can browse fonts for sale by style, collection, or “what’s hot.” Prices vary, but many typefaces are available for $49 to $100. Veer also offers “Flont,” an application that allows you to test their fonts before purchasing.

Fontshop

Fontshop.com has over 150,000 fonts to choose from. Users can search by categories such as sans, serif, slab, script, display and blackletter. You can also view fonts by bestsellers, staff picks, popular, new, webfonts and mobile fonts.

My Fonts

Myfonts.com offers a large collection of fonts. Users can view fonts by what’s new, best sellers, webfonts, tags and languages or perform a more detailed search. Fonts.com also has an interesting feature called “WhatTheFont” that allows users to upload an image of the font to find the closest match.

Adobe Fonts

Adobe Fonts offers users access to its collection of 2200 typefaces including exclusive fontscreated for Adobe. These original fonts are created by award-winning type designers and include new fonts as well as remakes of classic typefaces. Users can also view best-selling and featured fonts.

10 tips for a logo design that works

Designing logos is just like any other type of design work, to be professional you’ll need to pay attention to details. Even a great idea can be ruined by not thinking about simple things, the following tips will help you to keep your concepts safe.

Work with vectors
This probably sounds obvious to most designers out there, but it isn’t to everybody so I repeat it as often as I can to avoid receiving those damn jpeg logos. Vector formats are the ones that will allow the most variations for your logo.
Don’t use more than 2 fonts
There is many nice fonts out there and we would all love to use as many as we can. Unfortunately using too many fonts will most of the time result in a loss of coherence. Using two different fonts can be good to create a contrast, catching the eye.
Keep it readable
If people can’t read your logo, it’s useless to have one. This sounds like dumb advice again, but it’s easy to get caught in creating letters or distorting a font until it becomes unreadable. Always stay aware of that when working on your logo.
Test sizes
Your logo should resize well at any size, whether it’s huge on a truck or tiny on a badge.
Adapt it for dark backgrounds
So you’ve got a wonderful looking dark logo, but now your client want to get it on his black car. It’s usually not too hard to adapt it, but you’ll look more professional if you already got that case figured out.
Make sure it works well in black and white
I have a very simple technique for that: I work every logo in black and white before adding any colour. This way choices are made judging by the shapes and you are not distracted by anything else. It makes it much easier to know that your logo will work well in shades of grey afterwards.
Don’t include photos in your logo
Well… this one goes along with the first tip. First, photos are not vectors. Photos also don’t scale, have no branding value and are hard to adapt for any use.
Look at it upside-down
This is a tip I got from my teachers in graphic design school, looking at your logo (or any printed design really) will get the meaning out of the way and give you a new look at the design’s balance and white spaces. Try it!
Don’t follow trends
It’s often hard to escape trends, especially if you’re passionated and love to look at inspiring logos on design sites. Your logo has to work on the long run, so try to avoid the web 1.0 swoosh or the web 2.0 reflection.
Get specific feedback
Asking people’s opinion is worthless if you don’t know what informations you want to get, so when getting feedback, try asking specific questions (eg. does your logo expresses the industry of the company?).

Menilai Produktifitas Designer

Berikut adalah tahapan-tahapan yang mungkin bisa anda gunakan dalam keseharian anda sebagai seorang designer yang bersumber dari ahlidesindotcom. Silahkan di coba….

1. Perencanaan

Perencanaan adalah hal terbaik untuk menyimpan waktu dan menjadi lebih produktif. Anda mempunyai banyak hal yang ingin Anda lakukan, bukan? Mulailah secepat mungkin, sekarang untuk berpikir bahwa dengan cara ini Anda akan dapat mengerjakan apapun dengan lebih cepat dan lebih baik. Salah! Anda harus meluangkan lebih banyak lagi waktu Anda untuk merencanalan apa yang paling penting untuk dilakukan, apa yang kurang perlu dan kemudian tentukan mana pekerjaan yang tidak dapat ditunda. Secara personal saya menggunakan perencanaan dan sketsa sebelum membuat setiap tutorial yang ada diblog ini. Pertama, saya membuat sketsa sederhana dengan pena ata pensil di notebook kesayangan saya, kemudian sedikit demi sedikit menambahkan detail, setelah itu mengoreksi dan aha! Banyak waktu terbuang dalam mendesain dan bereksperiman hanya untuk komposisi dan detail visual terselamatkan.

2. Gunakan daftar To-Do

To-Do list membantu untuk tetap terorganisir dan fokus hanya pada hal-hal penting. Juga merupakan alat untuk mengingat hal-hal yang biasanya Anda lupa untuk melakukannya. Saya sedang berbicara tentang tugas-tugas kecil seperti panggilan telepon, email balasan dll Anda dapat menggunakan real-post it notes atau yang virtual (contoh : hottnotes).

3. Singkirkan gangguan

Kadang-kadang sangat sulit untuk memulai pekerjaan Anda karena banyak gangguan yang menyita waktu dan perhatian. Jika Anda benar-benar ingin menjadi produktif dan fokus pada saatnya bekerjam, matikan Skype, yM, TweetDeck (atau aplikasi lain yang Anda gunakan untuk Twitter). Juga email dan facebook yang memeriksa update setiap 5 menit adalah musuh produktivitas terbesar Anda. Gangguan bisa saga berupa TV, radio, hewan peliharaan atau bahkan keluarga. Jadi cari tempat di mana Anda nyaman dan dapat menjadi produktif sebaik mungkin dan mulailah bekerja.

4. Buatlah diri Anda disiplin

Buatlah bentuk disiplin yang realistis dan apa yang lebih penting, berusahalan untuk bekerja pada hal yang seperti itu. Misalnya mengatur waktu untuk memeriksa Facebook, Twitter dan account email. Tetapkan batas waktu untuk membaca blog, berita atau hal-hal lain yang Anda sukai.

5. Jangan bekerja terlalu banyak

Ya itu terdengar EDAN! tetapi bekerja dengan lebih sedikit waktu, Anda akan lebih produktif dan kualitas pekerjaan Anda akan dalam kondisi prima. Jangan mencoba untuk bekerja 12-18 jam / hari karena pada akhirnya Anda akan lebih lambat, pikiran Anda akan suatu tempat di luar pekerjaan dan apa yang paling penting dari kualitas pekerjaan akan lebih rendah. Penelitian membutikan bahwa bekerja dibawah 6 jam dalam satu hari akan membuat seseorang menjadi lebih bahagia, lebih produktif dan sehat. Memang tidak setiap orang bisa melakukannya, namun dengan usaha kita dapat melakukannya, minimal mengurangi TANGGUNGAN pekerjaan.

6. Bekerjalah di waktu yang pendek

Saya telah membaca saya banyak (buuuuuuuuanyak) artikel tentang produktivitas danmanajemen waktu. Saya benar-benar menyukai teknik Pomodoro atau hanya teknik 25 menit kerja. Buatlah jangka waktu 25 menit, 30 menit atau 40 menit dan bekerja, hanya fokus pada pekerjaan, ya itu sulit, tapi kemudian Anda akan memiliki istirahat cukup, minum secangkir air atau bernafas segar udara luar, bukankah itu memotivasi?

7. Selalu fokus pada tugas tunggal (Serial)

Jika Anda membuat kartu nama, jadi desainlah kartu nama saja, tetapi jangan mencoba untuk menulis posting blog atau membuat logo pada waktu yang sama. Alasan yang masuk akal adalah pertama, Anda akan mengerjakannya dengan kualitas yang rendah, kedua Anda akan kehilangan perhatian dan ketiga – Anda akan menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu melakukan tugas-tugas pararel, karena Anda menghabiskan beberapa detik beralih dari Photoshop ke editor teks atau dashboard blog pada browser Anda dll

8. Pikirkan tentang tujuan Anda

Sebelum memulai pekerjaan berpikirlah tentang tujuan Anda yang paling menggairahkan dan memotivasi Anda, misalnya anda ingin pergi ke Bali untuk liburan Anda berikutnya sehingga Anda berpikir tentang matahari, tiupan angin ditamani segelas ice juice, deburan ombak, pijatan relaksasi dan mungkin Anda akan memasukkan suasana hati Anda ke dalam ruang lingkup kerja dan pada ujungnya Anda akan lebih produktif.

9. Mendengarkan musik

Mendengarkan musik pada saat bekerja tidak untuk semua orang. Hal ini mungkin berlaku jika Anda adalah orang yang suka mendengarkan musik sambil membaca. Yang paling penting adalah bahwa Anda harus memilih sebuah genre yang tidak mengalihkan perhatian Anda dan tidak mengambil perhatian Anda terhadap karya desain Anda. Musik akan membantu Anda untuk menjadi lebih produktif atau kreatif (musik yang membangkitkan gairah dan motivasi). Secara pribadi saya mendengarkan musik dangdut (aye!) dengan volume rendah. Bangun di pagi hari bolehlah putar musik dangdut koplo dengan hentakan keras dan nge-beat, tapi kalau sudah waktu bekerja saya memilih dangdut slow.

10. Tetap Terorganisir

Anda adalah perancang, pengembang, ilustrator apapun, Anda menggunakan sumber daya (resources). Tekstur, pattern, font, ikon, vektor, gambar foto semua hal yang ada di harddisk Anda. Setiap kali Anda mencoba untuk menemukan di mana mereka berada dan Anda akan menghabiskan banyak waktu. Buat beberapa folder, misalnya Design, Kode,Grafis dan menempatkan semua file ke folder tersebut. Jangan terlalu diatur, jangan membuat folder terlalu banyak karena itu tidak cerdas dan Anda akan menghabiskan detik membuka dan menutup folder tersebut, detik menjadi hitungan menit dan bahkan jam dalam jangka panjang, misalnya Anda memiliki sepuluh folder yang tidak perlu, Anda menghabiskan 0,5 detik untuk membukanya dan 0,5 untuk menutupnya.

Jika Anda menggunakan mereka setiap hari: 10 folder x 0,5 detik x 2 x365 = ~ 1 jam / tahun hanya untuk membuka folder! Pikirkan tentang hal ini. Jika perlu buatlah shortcut pada destop Anda namun sekali lagi jangan terlalu banyak karena dapat membuat karya wallpaper kesayangan Anda tertutupi, bila memungkinkan gunakan shortcut keyboard global untuk masuk ke dalam folder tersebut, sudah banyak software yang mengcover masalah ini.

11. Gunakan Template

Jangan mencoba untuk menciptakan apapun setiap saat. Jika Anda adalah seorang web desainer membuat template psd kosong dalam resolusi yang sama, tambahkan pedoman, grid, membuat kelompok dan menyimpannya dalam format PSD untuk proyek-proyek masa depan. Pikirkan tentang berapa banyak waktu Anda habiskan setiap kali melakukan tugas-tugas tersebut. Begitu pula Anda desainer grafis, menggunakan template bukanlah sesuatu yang hina atau merendahkan kualitas desain Anda. Minimal template yang seharusnya menghasilkan sesuatu kesan berbeda harus bisa ditangani dengan baik, tidak semua template karakter untuk setiap produk pada proyek berbeda bukan? Mereka mempunyai kesan dan image mereka masing-masing.

Jika Anda lebih memilih aplikasi yang dapat Anda download dan instal, Type light 2.2 adalah jawabannya, dia merupakan keturunan CR8 Software’s Type Designer. FontForge desainer merupakan software pembentuk font berbasis open source yang pada awalnya hanya ditujukan bekerja pada Linux. It’s not easy to come up with a perfect shot… consider 1200ft/sec average speed of a bullet, plus a synchronizing laser, hi-tec flash setup and a fancy camera-work. One of the most common questions that I’m asked is ‘how do I photograph waterfalls?’

Waterfalls do present themselves as a wonderful and challenging subject matter to photographers. Firstly they’re beautiful places, secondly they are often in tricky lighting situation and thirdly they’re a dynamic subject as they’re moving (and of course movement means a challenge but also a real opportunity for a more dynamic shot).

A lot has been written about the finer points of photographing waterfalls but the basics are fairly simple.

Working with Movement

Anytime you’re presented with a moving subject a photographer really has two options. Firstly they can freeze the motion by using a fast shutter speed and secondly they can capture and enhance the motion by using a longer shutter speed that blurs the moving element in the shot (in this case – water).

Most photographers take the second option and allow the water to blur. Here’s how to do it. You’ll need your digital camera and a tripod. It will also be helpful to have a polarizing filter if you have one.

How to Photograph Waterfalls

Take a Control Shot – Before you start experimenting – switch your camera to auto mode, make sure your flash is turned off and take a shot of the waterfall. As you do – take notice of the exposure that the camera sets. Your camera will almost certainly choose an exposure that freezes the water somewhat. This photo will be a bit of a reference point to compare your shots to later and to use as a basis for your exposures.

Shutter Priority Mode – Switch to shutter priority mode on your camera (we’ve talked about shutter and aperture priority modes previously). Generally you’ll want to try to get a shutter speed of 1 to 2 seconds to get a nicely blurred water.

Tripod – Of course to take a shot at a shutter speed of this length you’ll definitely need a tripod or some other way to ensure that your camera is completely still for the full time that the shutter is open.

Sounds easy doesn’t it – attach your camera to a tripod, switch to shutter priority mode, set your shutter speed to 1-2 seconds and take the shot. Unfortunately in most cases it’s not that simple.

The problem with increasing the shutter speed is that it increases the amount of light that gets into your camera and unless it’s quite a dark and gloomy day you’ll find your image is going to be over exposed (even though in shutter priority mode the camera will choose a very small aperture to try to compensate for it).

Other Tips to Try to Get Exposure Right

There are a couple of things that you can do to decrease the amount of light coming into your camera and get your exposure levels better:

Timing – pick the right time of the day to do your waterfall photography and you can definitely give yourself more options to use longer shutter speeds. Around sunrise and sunset are obvious times as light is less bright. Also overcast days are better than bright ones.

Filters – using a filter that cuts down the amount of light entering your camera can help also. There are a variety of filters available that do this but I generally use a polarizing filter as it not only cuts down the light getting in but also can help you improve your shots (they cut down on reflections in shots – and waterfalls can have quite a few of these). Another type of filter you might like to use is a neutral density filter which is a filter that cuts down the light entering your camera – almost like putting sunglasses on.

Aperture Priority Mode – if you are still having trouble with exposure even at darker times of the day and with the use of a polarizing filter another approach that you can take is switch into Aperture Priority Mode and choose the smallest aperture possible. On most cameras this will be f/22 or f/36. The result of choosing this is that your camera will automatically choose the longest shutter speed available for that aperture. It may not be 2 seconds – but it will almost always be longer than the shutter speed in that first control shot that you took and as a result the water will blur more than in the first shot. The other impact of having a smaller aperture is that you’ll have a larger depth of field and more of the waterfall will be in focus.

Low ISO – Choosing a lower ISO will mean that your camera’s sensor is less sensitive to light and will need the shutter to be open longer. It will also mean less ‘noisy’ or grainy shots which will give your shots lots of nice detail.

More Waterfall Photography Tips

Of course getting the exposure right is just part of the equation when it comes to photographing waterfalls with you digital camera. here are a few extra tips.

Bracket your Shots
The first time I ever did some waterfall photography was over a decade ago when I was using a film SLR. I spent a week away by myself purely for photography in an area where there are many waterfalls.

What I learned in that week was the importance of bracketing my shots – taking a series of shots at different shutter speeds and apertures. I found that in doing this that I could capture a variety of very different images of exactly the same scene with changes in the extent that the water blurred, changes in the depth of field and changes in the way the camera captured color.

Also use your cameras built in exposure bracketing (check your manual) and bracket your shots in this way also.

Composition
Also on my week of photographing waterfalls I learned that a waterfall could be photographed from many angles and in many different ways ranging from the wide angle shot that puts the waterfall into it’s wider context right down to tightly cropped shots that focus upon just one small part of the waterfall. Also look for the different ways the water flows. In some places it’ll be multiple streams, in others it will gush explosively everywhere and in others it will flow gently in a single stream. Try a variety of positions on the waterfall (you’ll find that it’ll flow at different speeds in different sections also) and experiment with how the different parts look at slow shutter speeds.

Tidy Up
While I’m a big believer in being an environmentally friendly photographer (and always leaving a location the way you found it) a little tidying up of your scene can have a big impact upon a waterfall scene). Before taking shots scan your eye over your frame and look to see if there are any distracting elements that might be able to be moved. Particularly look for litter but also consider leaves on rocks etc. Simply tidying up the image in a way that doesn’t do any physical damage to the location can take your images to the next level.

Don’t Become Obsessed with Blurred Water
The effect of silky smooth moving water in your shots is difficult to resist but don’t let it become the only type of waterfall image that you capture. Try taking some shots with ultra fast shutter speeds also. This can especially be a powerful technique on raging waterfalls where there is lots of spray and explosive splashes. The other impact of faster shutter speeds is that you’ll need to use larger apertures which means narrow depth of field which will bring a whole new impact to your shots.

That’s enough theory – now it’s time to get out and do it because the more you do the better you’ll get. Have fun!

Sebagai istilah umum, fotografi berarti proses atau metode untuk menghasilkan gambar atau foto dari suatu obyek dengan merekam pantulan cahaya yang mengenai obyek tersebut pada media yang peka cahaya. Alat paling populer untuk menangkap cahaya ini adalah kamera. Tanpa cahaya, tidak ada foto yang bisa dibuat.

Prinsip fotografi adalah memfokuskan cahaya dengan bantuan pembiasan sehingga mampu membakar medium penangkap cahaya. Medium yang telah dibakar dengan ukuran luminitas cahaya yang tepat akan menghailkan bayangan identik dengan cahaya yang memasuki medium pembiasan (selanjutnya disebut lensa).

Untuk menghasilkan intensitas cahaya yang tepat untuk menghasilkan gambar, digunakan bantuan alat ukur berupa lightmeter. Setelah mendapat ukuran pencahayaan yang tepat, intensitas cahaya dapat diatur dengan merubah kombinasi ISO / ASA (ISO Speed), Diafragma (Aperture), dan Kecepatan Rana (Speed). Kombinasi antara ketiga aspek tersebut selanjutnya disebut sebagai Eksposur (Exposure).

Selain exposure ada tiga hal lagi yang dianggap dasar dalam fotografi, yaitu :
1. Composition : komposisi dari objek-objek yang kita foto harus dibuat sedemikian rupa sehingga menyatu dengan elemen-elemen lain di sekitarnya.
2. Depth of Field : menentukan ketajaman objek yang akan difoto.
3. Focus : menentukan titik terjelas dari obejk yang ingin ditonjolkan.

Fotografi, terkadang dianggap sebagai salah satu alternative dalam beriklan. Bahkan tidak jarang dianggap suatu hal yang penting dalam memperkenalkan sebuah produk.

Dalam Still life Photography seorang fotografer harus membentuk “expressive power of photography”,yang terdiri dari :
• Foto harus mengandung warna yang menarik perhatian.
• Moment juga harus menarik perhatian.

Journalism Photography merupakan foto-foto yang mengandung unsur berita, seperti siapa, mengapa, kapan (5w+1h). Kualitas foto bukanlah hal yang terpenting, namun moment dalam foto sangat diperhatikan.

Architecture Photography,

yang penting adalah garis-garis horizontal dalam sebuah gedung tidak boleh terdapat adanya distorsi. Misalnya seperti foto sebuah bangunan, tidak boleh terlihat miring.

Write out your name or word and leave a lot of space between the letters with a pencil.
Start experimenting with different shapes and sizes of the letters, using round and sharp corners.
Once you have your basic form down, make the edges stand out by making the lines thicker, and use varying sizes. Use thick lines on one side of the letters and thin ones on the other side to give it a 3D look.
Add more design and detail to the letters and edges to give your art personality.
When you are satisfied with your graffiti, make the image permanent by using a heavy black marker to outline the edges. Color the rest in with marker or colored pencil.

The first step in learning to draw graffiti is to actually learn to draw regular stuff like cars and houses etc… You may think this sounds stupid, but if you know how to draw cartoons, you know how to draw graffiti letters.

Don’t think for a second that graffiti is not a form of art, IT IS, and to learn any art you have to start with the basics.

Camera Raw 6.6 Update & Lightroom 3.6 update

Dua program foto digital milik Adobe baru saja diupdate. Ia adalah Lightroom 3.6 dan Camera Raw 6.6.

Dalam update terakhir ini, para pengguna disajikan dengan dukungan file berformat RAW untuk 9 kamera, termasuk Canon PowerShot S100, Nikon 1 V1 dan Sony NEX-7 serta Fuji Finepix X10.

Versi baru ini juga memperbaiki bug yang ada di model sebelumnya. Selain itu, Adobe juga menambahkan lebih dari 30 lens profile untuk membantu fotografer memperbaiki distorsi.

Sejumlah lensa SLR dari Sigma, Canon, 3 lensa untuk Nikon seri 1 dan lensa-lensa lainnya sudah disupport oleh Adobe.

Lightroom adalah program yang memungkinkan fotografer amatir dan profesional untuk mengimport, mengelola dan mengedit fotonya hanya dari 1 aplikasi. Sementara plug-in Photoshop Camera Raw menyediakan akses yang cepat untuk foto berformat RAW.

Updatean Lightroom 3.6 kini sudah tersedia dan bisa didownload secara gratis untuk pengguna Lightroom 3. Begitu juga untuk plug-in Photoshop Camera Raw 6.6 yang tersedia untuk pengguna Photoshop CS5, ia juga bisa diunduh secara cuma-cuma di situs resmi Adobe.

Spring Fashion : Trend to Love

PRINT

Runway: Designers fall in love with prints, from abstract florals to strong tribal prints.

Reality: While stronger prints may make fashion news, it’s the pretty floral prints and understandable graphic prints that we keep coming back to. Prints range from vibrant hues (green, blue, pink) to earthy spice colors. Not sure you want to invest in prints you may get tired of? Try a print bag or shoe.

PINK

Runway: Pink pops up in everything from blush to fuchsia.

Reality: Here’s a trend that works for so many women, and it’s as easy to buy into as adding a pink lipstick. If you are going to add a pink piece to your wardrobe, try something in a medium shade of pink (think Barbie pink) and wear it close to your face for a youthful glow. And simply adding a pink bag or accessories is an easy way to wake up neutrals.

THE 70’S

Runway: From peasant blouses to floppy-brim hats, everything ’70s is enjoying a fashion moment.

Reality: No need to go a head-to-toe hippie look to get a taste of the ’70s. A little bit of retro-inspired look goes a long way. The easiest switch to make? Trade skinny jeans for a wider leg to turn the fashion clock back a few years.

Runway: From stark dresses to somber colors, the minimal movement is gaining ground.

Reality: This nod to the ’90s even appeared on recent red carpets. We like the modern minimalism because it allows for some femininity (soft hair, pretty makeup, a bit of jewelry) while still promoting a clean-lined silhouette.

WIDE – LEG PANTS

Runway: Wide-leg jeans and soft pants were the bottoms of choice on the runway.

MIXED PRINTS

Runway: Mixed prints are nothing new, but in such a huge print season it was common to see some bizarre mixes.Reality: The easiest way to mix prints well involves choosing prints with a similar theme (color, scale) or lots of contrast (polka dots with stripes). Never an easy look to pull off, but designers made it easier by providing pretty options like “mirror” prints (pictured above.)

Plus Size Kids Need Fashion Too!

Back-to-school shopping is a breeze if you’re looking for a girl’s size 6X, junior size 7 or boy’s size L.

Merchants are packed with logo T-shirts, hip jeans, hoodie sweaters and athletic pants in standard kids’ and teen sizes.

But try to find the same trends in a girls’ size 121/2, junior size 19 or guys’ size 2XL and you’ll find that many of the same companies who court young business are noticeably devoid of large sizes.For the estimated 6 million overweight kids in the U.S. who are too large to fit in to mainstream youth offerings, back- to-school shopping can be grueling.

And the ranks are growing: according to Newsweek, the proportion of U.S. kids who are overweight jumped from 5 percent in 1964 to nearly 13 percent in 1994, the most recent year on record.

The magazine also says experts believe the trend has accelerated and one child in three is either overweight or in risk of becoming so.

For these children, the school experience is one of “ongoing prejudice, unnoticed discrimination and almost constant harassment,” according to the National Education Association.

There are many good resources dealing with weight management in children. On the flip side, the >National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) even has kids’ projects designed to help overweight children learn size acceptance.

However, the issue of helping overweight kids learn to use fashion to their advantage is largely ignored — the big push has been for kids to either lose the weight to fit into “normal” sizes or learn to love their bodies and wear whatever they please.

A realistic approach, with regards to image, makes the most sense. Even if an overweight child is put on a weight management program, there’s no guarantee that the weight will come off quickly (or even at all).

Helping big kids use apparel and accessories to look their best will not only bolster self-confidence, but help them fit in better with classmates.

Plus-size style tips

Don’t let the child hide out in oversized T-shirts and baggy pants — it isn’t cool or flattering, just sloppy. Instead go for leg-flattering styles like flares or bootcut.
Do let the child wear styles and colors that he or she likes, but use some common sense. A plump girl donning Britney-type midriff-baring tops is only going to be showcasing extra weight. Instead, let the child choose a tight-fitting tank (just like her peers wear) but layer it with an unbuttoned sleeveless shirt.
Big kids tend to look older than their biological age (and some of the plus size clothing makes it even worse), so pay extra attention to keeping age-appropriate haircuts, accessories, shoes, etc.
Items that aren’t size-specific (accessories, shoes, jewelry, backpacks, handbags) are the best way for overweight kids to feel exactly like their peers. Go overboard here!
Neatness counts with all kids, but for larger kids who tend to gravitate toward sloppy oversized T-shirts and jeans, details definitely count: clothing should be ironed, free of stains or tears. Shoes should be spick and span and grooming spotless.
