Mustache Rules:

Contest will be held at approximately 10:45, directly following Ikonoklast's set. Contest participants will be selected from the audience by the hosts and asked to stand on the stage. Audience will then have a chance to vote. Tie breakers will ultimately be judged by the hosts.

First off, I am happy to report that Dave and Kelly's baby was born October 25th, 2012. She's very healthy and at the time of this posting 1 month old! You can read more about her Dave Strand's facebook, or also Dave and Kelly made a baby blog where they talk about baby stuff and post pictures.

Also, thanks to everyone who made it out to Nightmare on Main Street. I think it's safe to say that it was the most attended Strand show. I mean, it was a block party with The Strand, Hardwire, Letz Massacre, and Combichrist! I think over 3000 people were in attendance. My band mates were kind enough to take care of all of the setup, and I was able to just rush onto stage, play the gig, and then head back to my 2 day old baby! What a diva, I've become.

Also, yesterday I posted a bunch of live footage of The Strand from our 2012 CD release party at Chasers in AZ. I put two versions of six different songs online. Live audio versions, and versions with the original song mixed ontop of the live audio. Here's some links. Share it out if you want to spread the word. This was our last gig with Bryon, and an awesome time. Thanks to all who were there for bringing great energy.

Had our first band practice with Elias Lewter on drums, and it was pretty awesome. Dude can rock out for sure. Now the task of dividing up his parts among the existing keyboard players. They seem to be up to the challenge, so rock on. A few more practices and we'll have the songs dialed in for the gig on October 27th with Combichrist, Komor Kommando, Hardwire and The Strand at Nightmare on Main Street! It's gunna be a huge event, with a lot of beer vendors, out door block party vibe, and I saw this promo video for it a couple days ago. Strange days in Strandland

Strange days in Strandland. As of last week, our drummer Bryon Anderson officially resigned from The Strand. To quote Bryon,

"All the constant band obligations (practice/shows/hours loading and lifting) is just not fun or fulfilling anymore. I'm really looking forward to being done with it for a while and having my weekends back."

He also went on to say,

"I enjoy the friendships & gatherings we all have, but the music part of my life has become more burden than fun. Mostly work and not much creativity."

I can understand what he means, it is a lot of work. Plus Bryon has been playing in more than one band for the better part of a decade. Still, we had some great times, from our early gigs at the Mason Jar, to the AOR / RFA gigs, the Grave parties, and three CD release parties. Especially good times during the out of state gigs, like the Midwest tour, the SLC gigs, and the infamous New Mexico gigs. All in all roughly 68 shows with The Strand spanning almost 10 years of rocking out. His skill, style, humor, and songwriting will surely be missed. Farewell Bryon.

Alas, Strand-life must go on. Consequently, starting immediately our new drummer is our very own Elias Lewter. Bet you didn't know this, but as well as a being an amazing singer, songwriter, keyboardist, Elias is also an accomplished drummer. He started playing drums when he was in third grade and started his music career in his first band, Monkey Bite! He went on to also play drums in PLF, Dubok, and then Pressure:Penetration. Not to mention playing occasional keys for Flesh Field, and then Manda and the Marbles. Elias of course is also the current front man for Access Zero. Let's just say, the dude's got skills and we're happy to have him on the team. He's already picking out a SICK drum kit, and looking forward to rocking out.

What a fantastic night! Thanks to all the fans, friends, Hardwire, Ikonoklast, George Gifford and Scott Levy for making our CD release party totally amazing. Great crowd, great vibe, great fun!

In the coming week we will post the whole Combat Advantage movie online. We have a couple minor tweaks, and you'll get to see it!

In the meanwhile, our band's store now has more T-SHIRTS! Yep, we got re-stocked in shirts. Grab your size before they get sold out again. Also there, you can buy MP3s from all of our albums, or CDs, including our new Combat Advantage CD and the limited edition Instrumental Combat CD.

On Thursday May 24th while setting up to film one of the final scenes of Combat Advantage the movie, a home-made smoke bomb went off Dave Strand's lower pocket, which he tried to pat down giving him 2nd degree burns on his hands and leg. His friends rushed him off to the ER and the hospital cleaned the wounds up. The healing process continues under the watchful eye of his Primary Care Physician. Healing is going as well as can be expected, painful and tedious, but clean and steady. Dave claims it was his own silly fault... (don't put a 9volt battery in your pocket with tin foil and a smoke bomb) He also sends thanks to his friends for responding quickly and professionally. And is thankful to have a wonderful brother who drove and stayed with him in the hospital. He also send extreme thanks to his wife for caring for him, changing his bandages twice a day, and carting him around. Dave says, "I'm very grateful, it could have been much worse.. I will heal in a couple weeks, and am already feeling better." If you would like to send Dave a message, there is a facebook post about it.. If you want to send Dave money for medical expenses, he said.. "Just buy my new album at strandland.com."

Three big The Strand news items.

We have shipped 97% all of the Kickstarter packages. If you are one of the two people who's T-Shirt is still in production, we have already contacted you to let you know. Everyone else, it's in the mail and should be arriving shortly!
We are currently filming a short movie that will air at the CD release party. The movie is a large production featuring many amazingly talented people. Production is going well. I think it's safe to say we have a greater respect for actors and all that goes into making movies. Long hours and more setup than I ever thought.
The CD release party is booked. It will feature the presentation of this movie, throughout the night before each band plays. The bands are The Strand, Hardwire, and Ikonoklast and the event will take place Sat. June 30 at Chasers in Scottsdale AZ.

Well, now all we can do is wait. We have gotten all the art and assembled the final PDFs (Thanks to Cloud Quinot, and Shayne Bohner for their original artwork. Cloud did art for Combat Advantage and Shayne did art for Instrumental Combat), and all the mastering is complete thanks to an AMAZING job by Steve of NRMastering!

This morning I uploaded all of the files to discmakers.com and they have emailed me to let me know the process of replication has begun! If all goes well we should have both Combat Advantage, and Instrumental Combat CDs by the end of April! (Not in time for the Pirate Party) Oh, also the shirts are done thanks to a great job by Reckless TShirts!

All of this wouldn't be possible if it were not for 58 marvelous fans and friends who contributed to our kickstarter fund. With their contributions we raised $1900 to fund this release, and appreciate every one who helped out. Once the CDs have arrived we will begin the process of packing and delivering all of the Shirts, CDs, MP3s, and assorted goodie bags.

For the time being here is a sneak peak at some of the final album art.

Ultimate thanks to everyone who contributed to our successful kickstarter campaign and a special shout out to Corry S. who in the last hour INCREASED their donation from $25 to $38 just to push us up to the $1900 mark! Way cool. I am literally dropping the files off for Mastering today with www.NRMastering.com. Then the art comes and then it's off for pressing. Those who have donated to the kickstarter will get the discs and shirts as soon as they are available. Stay tuned for announcements regarding our official CD release party.

The Strand is nearing completion of our new album titled "Combat Advantage", and thanks to the fans this new CD is completely funded via the Kickstarter page, where you can pre-order the new album and shirts. Combat Advantage will be completed in April 2012 and will be available for purchase in May of 2012. Hey we also have a halfway decent Facebook page if you need to reach us.Also on April 21st The Strand is hosting our second annual Pirate Party! And this time, Ninjas are welcome. We will have two amazing DJs, dj con and DJ_DARK_MARK and as always a live performance by The Strand. It'll be at Chasers, so swing by the event page for more details.

Last night kicked a lot of major ass you guys! Thanks so much for making it a memorable one, and thanks SO much to all the people who bought cds. Was a great honor to open for TKK, and we had a great time between hanging out with you all and gettin up there and jumpin around. We'll keep you guys informed when our next local gig is. For now we just have the Salt Lake City gig in June and then we're playing a Tuscon Steampunk convention in 2011.
