Silver horns, anyone?

It’s worth checking out, considering they have boots like these:

Admittedly, Kenley’s dress was gorgeous - the feathers were the perfect creamy shade of off-white and the tulle skirt was satisfyingly fluffy. But in a court of law, she’d surely be charged with ripping off the British designer. (Note: There are no formal laws against this kind of rip-offery, though designers are doing their darndest to have them enacted to keep from seeing there silhouettes and fabric choices stolen from everyone from Forever 21 to the Kenley Collinses of the world.)

But for her to shake her head violently from side to side and go “Uh-uh. No one has ever done a silhouette like this” was just so brazen and pigheaded - and dead wrong. Check out the evidence here.

It really disappoints me that someone who professes to be as in love with fashion as Kenley does could not know about one of this year’s most show-stopping collections. Doesn’t she read magazines or study Style.com? Every other designer I know does.

I had just one photo shoot on my work agenda - and my wonderful gig as the SA, of course. But I’m talking stylist-wise here. It’s just been a really slow season all around, thanks in no small part to the economy.

And then last week, all the sudden … BOOM! I started getting work and now I’ve been going non-stop since last Wednesday.

I did an AMAZING shoot with the wonderful pop chanteuse Charity Daw last Friday in Watertown - this is just one of dozens of awesome shots I took during the shoot (the extraordinary Kristin Barlowe was the “real” photographer on the gig) - and then dove straight into prep for the Jake Owen video we shot yesterday in Birmingham. My makeup artist buddy Neil and I headed out to B’ham early on Monday and I got back late last night (I listened to Barry O trump Johnny McC on radio last night while driving; thank God for NPR!).

Now I’m prepping for a HerNashville shoot on Friday as well as a Paramore video/photo shoot on Monday. V v excited about this. I don’t get to work with rock groups enough - let alone really talented and goodlooking ones! - so I’m very psyched. Have a conference call with the band at 2 pm this afternoon to discuss what they’re gonna wear in the vid, which is for their song on the soundtrack for Twilight, that teen vampire movie that everyone’s talking about.

But just thought I’d let you guys know why it’s been kinda quiet here lately. I’ll write more soon!

I can’t decided out whether I’d brave the ones Hannah MacGibbon showed at her first show for Chloe.

I can say that if I had gams like Hannah’s I’d def wear them, without a doubt.

Emotional Mullet and I went to see the Racounteurs last night at the Ryman. The Kills opened.

I love their music - boy-on-girl (or is it girl-on-boy?) melodies/chants that ooze sex - and bought their latest album earlier this year; it quickly became my driving-long-distance CD of choice.

Before seeing them, I’d read several magazine interviews with singer Allison Mosshart, and thought she sounded majorly cool.

And then I saw her in person.

Oh, my. That girl is wonderful - from the top of her dark, layered haircut to her AMAZING gold boots (and every bit of her black jeans, leopard jacket and long distressed gray tunic in between).

Though you can’t see the boots (I’m going to copy her as soon as I find the cash - and the perfect pair), I thought this pictures from the Independent (the accompanying interview is here) was lovely. Enjoy.

Check out the amazing reupholstery job my mother did on my sister Millie’s slipper chair! They chose a bunch of awesome fabrics - many from our beloved Kaffe Fassett - and mixed them up (though “mixing up” isn’t near as willy nilly as it sounds: in my mom’s hands, “willy nilly” means hours of lining up materials and agonizing over how they work; then reorganizing and doing more agonizing …) and then just stapled the stuff in place.

Given, it’s not as easy as it looks. It took them several weekends of tandem work. And my mom has also been recovering furniture (she’s a former wicker furniture dealer) for over 40 years. So.

But I just had to share! I’m sure Anthropologie is going to come knocking soon, mom. Get ready to say goodbye to retirement and re-enter the workforce!

And that’s why I bought it this AM for $45 - a fraction of what you’d pay for one of the fashion wunderkind’s collection pieces at Barney’s Co-op.

I was un-blown away by the red carpet at last night’s Emmy awards. Pretty safe, and in some cases pretty bad.

I mean, I LOVE American Ferrera; apparently the people closest to her don’t, ’cause they let her leave the house in a dress resembling a trash bag.

Hayden Panettiere - who I’ve never really understood as a style icon to begin with; talk about predictable - looked almost trashy in her Badgley Mischka gown (and I love me some BM: Mark and James personally styled me in an awesome purple beaded number for a string of Oscar parties one year!)

Lauren Conrad looked like a freakin’ tent in the, um, Empire tent dress she wore of her own design. And Susan Sarandon really needed a bra in her deep red Donna Karan. Baaaaad fit; worse accessories, meaning the dumpy pumps and weird quilted bag with awkward handle.

And Rachel Griffiths could have done sooo much better than the brown layered chiffon Bob Mackie. (Bob Mackie? Was this some weird tribute to Carol Burnett that I missed the backstory on?)

But when the ladies looked good, they looked real good.

Usually I favor brunettes on the carpet - I think dark hair and Hollywood-pale skin looks amazing in formal situations - but this year my top picks for over-all looks were regal ice blondes.

As I hinted in the subject line, I thought “Mad Men” actress January Jones was sublime in her white corseted Dolce & Gabbana. I don’t always get D&G’s pseudo-bondage looks; I find them too too - you know, trying a bit too hard - most of the time. But this dress was amazing and was perfectly complimented by the double band of diamonds in her hair. Gorge! (I just wonder if “Mad Men” costume Svengali, Katherine Janie Bryant - who just happened to be my childhood friend growing up in Cleveland, TN; before she moved to LA I crashed on her couch when I first moved to NYC - had anything to do with this great look? Side note: I caught sight of Janie when the whole cast came up on stage to collect their awards for best drama - soooo well-deserved - and she looked amazing in a white tiered floor-length gown. Girl’s got style for miles.)

My other faves: Christina Applegate, who was resplendent in a Reem Acra one-shouldered brocade number (the fact that she had a double mastectomy less than four months ago was surely inspiring for other women recovering with breast cancer); Kyra Sedgewick in a pale L’Wren Scott shift that hugged every bit of her petite frame just the way it should; Felicty Huffman, who just gets better looking each year, in Reem Acra; Emile de Raven in a blue tiered Matthew Williamson gown; and Holly Hunter - another actress who just gets better-looking as each year goes by - in a purple gown by Jenny Packam.
