Happy Sunday you beautiful people! Shame the weather isn't like it was last weekend huh? Never mind, I guess us Brits are used to unpredictable (or mainly miserable) weather by now.Whilst you're reading this, I'll be getting myself ready as I'm heading into London today to see Planet Earth II - Live in concert at the Royal Albert Hall this eve. I'm very excited to see what it brings but regardless I bloody love the Royal Albert. I guess any kind of event is a perfect excuse to head to the capital - I say that like I need an excuse...
Anywhoo, here's a blazer to well and truly feast your eyes on. I'm 99.99999% certain it's a bit of a marmite piece and if I could insert some sort of poll into this post I probably would but yes you are most definitely either going to love it or hate it. I guess it's a pretty lary combo with this pink top too, if I do say so myself. Also a huuuuge FYI - this top is now a tenner in the sale, an absolute steal. When I first purchased these two items (totally separately I may add) I had no intention of wearing them together until I tried them on. There's something about monochrome that works SO well with bold pop colours, don'tcha think? I paired it with these flares as I'm still desperately trying to avoid wearing skinny jeans with EVERYTHING. This year has seen my denim collection grow quite a bit, so I'm trying to rotate pieces as best as possible before I get too attached to one pair! These jamie jeans have been a stern fave though I must admit. I'm unsure if it'll stay that way or if they'll be shown the door but, only time will tell...I hope you all have a lovely Sunday, whatever you may be doing.

DOUBLE POLKA DOTS

Well well well, here we are again. By the time you're reading this the bank holiday weekend will be over but, what a bloody lovely weekend it's been. It's so nice taking that extra day off and even more so, when the weather is as it has been. I'm currently finishing writing this in bed despite starting it earlier - it appears it's MUCH easier to get distracted when the sun is shining. It's a lot easier to walk away from your laptop isn't it?
Last night we made dinner and ate on the balcony which isn't something we do often. Add a gin into the mix (and a cheeky dolce lounge desert) and that is what I call a bloody good evening. I genuinely don't tend to drink all that often but, there's something about an ice cold drink that sits so nicely with me at this time of year - of course i'm aware it's not just me but, just wanted to make it clear i'm not a raging alcoholic!
Anyhow... I thought i'd post this outfit as it seems the most fitting thing I've shot of late that goes even closely with the weather we're having at the moment. It's not very often you'll find me with my legs out but, when the weather allows, i'll definitely make the most of it. I've been whole heartedly attached to this leather dungaree number from The Kooples since the day I got it (and maybe even a little before it was mine, via their website etc). I'd pined over it for a while but the price tag was just that little bit too unjustifiable until I managed to snatch it up in an online outlet sale. Maybe leather isn't all that practical in this weather but it's too comfy to avoid, so i'll wear it regardless!
But, alas, the bank holiday is over and we're back to work but I hope you had a lovely weekend. Here's to another bank holiday at the end of the month!

STAND IN LINE

Hello again, it's been a little longer than I'd planned since my last post but alas, here I am. I'm back from New York (and v sad about it) but, I'll be creating some content documenting my time there in some way, shape or form.Anyway, enough of holidays and back to reality in some dreamy vintage garms from Rokit. They've recently unveiled a huuuuge military section on their website and have tons for you to feast your eyes on. If you fancy a look at some military inspo click here. In the meantime, I'll start from the top...
If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know I'm particularly fond of a good old blazer so this seventies air force blazer grabbed my attention from the get go. I love the large patch pockets on the front (they're perfect for me to throw all my crap in) and of course the stripe details on the sleeves. What you can't see if the belt that would normally fasten around the middle. For this look I chose to tie it at the back but, another thing i'm loving rn is tie fronts. I think it'd look amazing with nothing underneath and tied at the front. In the not so distant future, expect to see me doing just that as well as styling this little number with jeans. I think the boxy fit would work a charm with some mom jeans - What d'you think?
Another thing I'm keen to mention is these. eighties. trousers. When you risk it with vintage clothes, you never quite know how they're going to fit - but boy have I been lucky this time. I love the colour of these trews; a perfect neutral for all year round and a perfect fit for all occasions. I always try and go for high waisted trousers, as I find them a lot more flattering, and despite my legs already being long I like the fact they elongate them a little more.
What is it with all clothes from the seventies and eighties seeming to be a total dream? I don't know what makes me love it so much but vintage clothing is something I've loved for a long time. You'll see, and hopefully will have seen, numerous posts of me wearing vintage or charity shop pieces. That won't be stopping anytime soon so in the meantime why not have a little look over on the Rokit website? They have a huuuuuge range of vintage in general PLUS I've been to a couple of their stores in London and never left empty handed, I kid you not. So go on - treat yo'self!

BELTED BLAZER

Hello hello you wonderful people? Happy Thursday!
How are we all? I'm writing this on wednesday evening (so yes, last night) and I'm absolutely knackered! Nonetheless, I really have been meaning, and wanting, to write this post for a while as I love the images Katie created. She'll vouch for me on this but, as you can see, it was really, VERY, cold (aka freezing) but we both wanted to shoot. My hands during this were like ice and I did numerous jump-up-and-down-to-try-and-get-warm dances but, y'know got to try and get that content!
As much as I despise the snow (sometimes not always I must say) it really does give SUCH good lighting when it comes to photos. There's something about the frozen white surface that works so beautifully with the camera to bounce light, if I do say so myself... I also really loved the location we shot this, with the strong metal background and the bold pink colour. Definitely want to venture back here and shoot some more looks for the spring here, with some boldly coloured outfits to clash against the background.
It's not often I spend a blog post talking much about an outfit either but, I felt awesome in this, despite being cold. I have such a huuuuuge affinity for blazers recently, and tailoring in general I guess, so expect to see plenty more blazers on The Style Archive. When I go to New York next week *screams inside* I think i'll be on a hunt for the perfect check blazer to add to my collection. Really enjoying styling them up of late!
Speaking of new things I love, I'm also very much loving wearing these flares. I think over the years you grow very comfortable wearing one, maybe two, fits of denim so it's nice to branch out to something new. I wouldn't in a million years have thought 'I'll be wearing flares in 2018' but here we are! And, I'm bloody loving it.

GREEN AND YELLOW

Pinch, punch, first of the month!
Haaaappy April and happy bank holiday weekend you lovely bunch. I hope you're having a good time and making the most of the long weekend? Definitely enjoying the lie ins and the rest whilst I can have it; it doesn't happen all that often. One thing that's also been nice is not being glued to my laptop. I spend eight, maybe nine hours a day, five days a week, on a laptop so it's been nice to leave it firmly closed for a couple of days.
I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm just going to say it - I love this combo. By 'this combo' I definitely mean stripes on stripes. High, or roll, neck tops work so well underneath a shirt or a low neck top - it adds a bit of interest to the look. I'm also loving playing around with some bold colours at the moment. Like everyone, I go through phases with my wardrobe so it's nice to inject some more colour in.
Speaking of colour, in future, if I was to come up with some looks based around one colour, would you guys be interested to see that? I think it'd be difficult (for some colours more so than others) to create a head to toe look - I mean just thinking about shoes scares me a little - but it's a challenge I'm quite willing to face! Please let me know if it's something you'd like me to try. And, psa, I'm not talking ridiculous colours here, I'm talking colours I'd normally wear?
Shooting with people like Katie, really inspires me to try new things on my blog (hence me asking the above.) One thing I love about working with fellow creatives is that it's so nice discovering new locations and generating new ideas that we can transfer into our work. Do any of you find that working with new people really motivates you to bring new ideas to the table and into your work? It's something I absolutely love about the creative and blogging industry.

PINK AND LIME

Going to keep it short and sweet today!

I hate being 'that' person who shares old pieces that you can't buy anymore but, at the same time, it's a hell of a lot more realistic than forever sharing new things. One, I don't buy new items 24/7 and two, who doesn't love pulling out an old gem and styling it up in a new way? Answer: not me.

I remember when I got this blazer. It was the last one on the rail in my local Topshop and it screamed my name. Checked the label and to my surprise, it was actually my size (for once). I honestly never feel like I have much luck when it comes to pieces I'm drawn to in the sale but I guess for this bad boy it was 'meant to be'.

Majorly loving clashing bold colours right now and honestly bloody LOVE this combo together. When I threw these on together it genuinely really shocked me as to how well it worked. But I guess that's life isn't it! Sometimes the best things in life are spontaneous. FYI - I'm not saying this blazer is the best thing in my life but I do love it I must admit.

BLACK, WHITE & CREAM

Y'know, sometimes this gal wants to just dress casual. Like, pretty darn casual. I mean, it was freezing cold outside when I shot this (pre snow I must admit) so I thought I'd layer this mega babe of a h&m top under a classic white shirt. I'm not normally a huge lover of a white shirt (and that's mainly because I'm too damn lazy to iron) but I really love the deep cuffs and slightly longer length of this one from Stradivarius. It's quite light weight so would be perffff in summer with a leather skirt for a night out with the girls or, pop it under a jumper for the current climate and you're good to go. I guess I should really think about rebooting my shirt-drobe, I need some more versatile, 'staple' pieces.

I'm currently in the midst of a much needed denim reboot. I've been living in straight legs for a while, after my beloved American Apparel jeans finally gave up the fight, so I am very much ready to fall back in love with skinny jeans again. I also want to buy some new vintage denim, y'know a trusty pair of Levi's 501's to be precise, as I always love the wash. Finding the right pair can be a bit of a nightmare but once you find the right pair, they're in a whole league of their own. I've not massively experienced the denim world that's out there - considering I practically live in jeans - and I'd love for you to recommend me some different brands you think are worth looking into. I've heard really good thinks about Weekday and & Other Stories, so I'll maybe give them a visit. But, in the mean time, these trusty Topshop mom jeans are staying firmly attached.

I find this time of a year a bit of a ~~ball ache~~ pain to dress for. It's sunny but there's bitter winds and before you know it, it's raining AGAIN. I don't know why I'm so shocked by that fact but, I guess that's also why I'm starting to look into layering a whole lot more. I'm really enjoying playing around with lengths too - y'know a long sleeve body under a short sleeve tee or a roll neck under a v-neck. I personally think layering adds that extra bit of interest, but what do YOU think?

What, I guess, I'm trying to get at is the fact we should all experiment a bit more. Layering is a super easy way to add a focus or pops of colour to an outfit (or just to add a base layer so you don't freeze your tits off!)

WHY I LOVE CHARITY SHOPS

Before I go all guns blazing into this post, I've decided to break it down into sections or individual points if you will. I could probably list a few more reasons why I love charity shops but here's three for you to feast your eyes on. Let me know what you think!
Of course, the suit I'm wearing in this post is from a charity shop, but I'll link some similar AND some other mega striped suit options at the bottom of the post! You're welcome ;)
1. IT'S FOR A GOOD CAUSEI guess we should start with the obvious hey? Everything you buy is all going to a good cause. By going into a charity shop and spending your hard earned cash, not only bags you an new item of clothing for a fraction of the price but you could help save someone's life. Regardless as to how little you spend, as Tesco would say, every little helps.
2. I ENJOY THE CHALLENGENow I know high street brands are the easiest place to visit for 'on trend' pieces to add to your wardrobe but, what about ignoring 'on trend' and picking up some key basics or the odd jazzy shirt?With that said, I guess there's a couple of ways that shopping second hand can be a bit of a challenge.
First, finding something you even like, without it looking like it's from your nan's wardrobe (unless you like that because if so that is TOTALLY fine), can be difficult. There's also the issue of sizing y'know? You might find something you really want but its too big/small - I guess it's always better for it to be bigger as at least you can then get it taken in. I've done this numerous times!
Another thing to consider is the time element. It's not often you'll find many charity shops that are merchandised in the same way - some are colour blocked whilst others are just in categories, in size order - so it can be a time consuming process to actually hunt through things properly, you just have to get rummaging.

3. THERE'S SOME ABSOLUTE STEALSOne thing you'll often see bloggers do is the £x outfit challenge. A budget is set (ie. £20) and they have to spend that amount (and no more) on items to create an entire outfit. Why not try the same principle here? It's a great idea if you're watching your money or are looking for something more *unusual* lets just say. Forget £20 on a top - for that price you're more likely to get several items.
Not long ago I ventured into my local British Heart Foundation to see some Stella McCartney Elyse platforms. It's safe to say I was totally and utterly heartbroken to find out they were a UK 4. I mean, I'm a generic UK 6 and considered all sorts of ways for me to possibly fit my feet into them but it just wasn't meant to be. Shoutout to whoever got those bad boys because they were an absolute BARGAIN compared to the retail price! Nonetheless, I've had some absolutely amazing pieces at crazy prices over the years.
If anything I hope this has inspired you at least a little to venture into your local charity shop. You'll be surprised as to what you might find! And, if you do find anything, I'd love to hear what you get!

NEW MONTH, NEW SUNGLASSES?

Oh heyyyyy! From me and the cute spot you can see on my left cheek.
What better way is there to start the month and to TRY to clear up those winter/generally-really-miserable-weather blues than a new pair of swanky sunglasses? I mean retail therapy in general is great but I'm an avid sunglasses hoarder so... Pretavoir, you are total and utter BABES for bringing these Tiffany & Co sunglasses into my life, thank you. One thing I love about these bad boys is the mirrored lenses. It means I can 1. give people the side eye or 2. check out the hot guy that just walked past me without him even noticing and finally 3. hide my hungover eyes when I need to go to Tesco and buy breakfast (sans make up). I could totally list some more reasons I love mirrored lenses but they're definitely up there. I know, thank me later.
FYI - If there's one thing I genuinely didn't know, it's that Tiffany did sunglasses? I mean, I could be being totally and utterly naive but hey, you learn something new everyday right? When I think Tiffany my brain autopilots to jewellery so when I jumped on the Pretavoir site to find these, I was pleasantly surprised!
On another, random and totally un-sunglasses-related, note - I'm sat here in Birmingham New Street train station, in Pret to be precise, and I just wanted to get my notebook out and write. I don't want to write about anything in particular, I'll just see where it takes me... Maybe I'll just end up people watching and not particularly writing a lot, who knows, we'll see.
It's crazy how I'm sat here so still and *calm* (ish) whilst everyone is rushing around like crazy. I almost feel like I'm in an episode of Bernard's Watch - do you remember that program?! I hope you do because it was defo a childhood favourite of mine! I can see the seconds ticking on the train boards and I guess all that I can think about is the constant pressure of time. Whilst I am SO very grateful that it's Friday, so I can finally relax, I guess I also feel like time slips away from us unbelievably quickly. I'm not saying that in a morbid sense either! Merely stating my opinion here - an opinion I'm sure at least some of you share too. I can't believe were two months in to 2018. Before we know it, it'll be Christmas again *shudders* but, we won't go down that road.
The thing I absolutely love about people watching, is seeing such a huge range of personal style. What kind of 'Fashion Blogger' would I be without mentioning that. It's crazy how much #inspo you can get from standing (or sitting in my case) back and just watching the world go by for a little while. It's weird and also pretty amazing to think that ALL of these people share this city and are surround by the same shops as me, yet we are all so different! Different in numerous ways, but nonetheless, I think that's a really beautiful thing. Every single one of us are so unique and I think that's something we should cherish a hell of a lot more. I know, I know, it's way easier said than done - I mean, I'm probably one of the worse people to be saying that as my self-love is really not on that level but still..

SHORT SKIRT(S)

There's nothing quite like waiting for spring to arrive is there? The sun is slowly but surely setting later each day and there's more blue skies to be seen. I don't know about you but I definitely feel a lot less nocturnal now that I actually manage to see some daylight outside the office walls. I guess we're also now surrounded by a ton of new season product and desperate to get the pins out, unless that's just me?

I guess these photos say it all really - "wants to get her legs out but it's too cold, so she had to wear tights, a leather jacket AND a faux fur gilet" - something along those lines. But, you get my drift... I did however, think about matching this skirt with a similarly checked blazer but opted out last minute in fear of being too matchy-matchy.

I love getting my legs out. Admittedly, mainly in much warmer climates because I can't deal with the thought of bare legs in the UK's current climate (I mean srsly though, what is with the current weather situation?! It's bloody freezing!) I actually really like this look despite the tights. Tights are one of those annoying convenience things aren't they, warm but ugly. Maybe I need to just invest in some funky tights rather than the plain Jane's OR maybe I just don't make tights look anywhere near as good as most people do? Before I total digress... and dare I say it, but this outfit made me feel almost powerful. A short skirt and stomping shoes to me says "I'm willing to be feminine BUT I'm also here to get. shit. done." God bless the pair of you.

More skirts in my wardrobe would be wonderful but, if I'm totally honest, as stated in my last post, I'm a lazy dresser. I mean, putting a skirt on doesn't exactly take much effort but it does however take more brain power to style than jeans for example. With that said, looking back at these images, this skirt from Tobi has given me a polite kick up the arse to stop being so lazy ands to find more skirts that I can wear for tons of different occasions, rather than being heavily reliant on denim.

I guess being check, this little number is simple enough to wear with tons of other things regardless of whether you want to jazz it up with some colour or stay more on the minimal side of things.

I'm sat here writing this from the lovely Paddington station whilst waiting for Beth. By the time you've seen this post, I'll have seen Bon Iver for the seance time and I'm certain it will have been bloody amazing. In the meantime, go buy yourself some new skirts for the (hopefully) warmer spring/summer and get those pins out!

BON VOYAGE

Good Morning you lovely bunch. I'm currently sat here totally pretending like it's not the evening and like I'm not typing this whilst the weather is dull outside. I've had a pretty hectic week but nonetheless, still itching to get some writing done when I've come home. It's funny isn't it how you can be shattered and still have the energy to do something you want to do? It's like when you're 'really full' after eating dinner yet there's still room for desert...
I've really been enjoying my commute to work (minus the ridiculously early alarm) as it gives me some times to read or write blog posts. Sounds cliche but sitting still and watching the world go by has my mind spinning with ideas that my hand can't write down quick enough - Yes, I'm old school and mostly write my posts down in a notebook first. One thing I love about writing things down is that I feel like I'm allowing my mind to just flow onto a page. Do you ever get that feeling? I find in therapeutic in a sense - like I said, a release. I mean, occasionally you're surrounded by people who are staring aimlessly at you thinking 'what the hell are you writing?' OR you get the person who sits next to you and gets so close you're left with zero personal space, but I think that's part of it. It's knocks you (literally) and makes you stop to think a little more about what you're writing down.
Whether it be writing a blog post or just writing down your thoughts, it feels good doesn't it? I get so carried away but I feel like blog post ideas are coming to me a lot more naturally than they used to. It's amazing what a little bit of time to yourself can really trigger in your mind.

Now I work Monday - Friday, I feel like I really need to plan my time as much as possible. I want some 'me' time and time to relax but, I also want time to knuckle down and get some blog things done. I'm currently thinking of a bit of a redesign but in the mean time I just want to crack on with some good old content. Can you tell this train commute is really filling my mind with ideas? Honestly, I feel SO motivated at the moment and when those times come, you just gotta let 'em flow! With all of that said, at the weekend I went and shot some looks for the first time in what feels like forever. One thing I love about taking blog photos is actually exploring the city - there's so many streets I've not walked down or buildings I've not seen. It's crazy considering I've lived here four or five years. One thing I do find though is that outfit choices don't always come naturally to me but when some new pieces are thrown into the mix, it always gets me thinking! *Queue new blazer and -tshirt* from Tobi.
I bloody LOVE blazers and I don't wear them enough if I'm totally honest - mainly because I'm a lazy dresser and also because I'd feel overdressed wearing one at work (my office has a casual dress code, much to my joy! And no, that wasn't sarcasm). I feel like it's one of those items you put on and you just feel a million dollars. It also has an open cuff without any buttons so perfect for if you want to jazz it up a little with some fancy jewellery or a dressy watch for an evening. You feel powerful wearing a blazer, or at least I hope you do, and they make you look like you've made far more effort than you have - what more do you want?
I chose to style mine as I would on a day to day basis; nice and simple with a graphic t-shirt, jeans and my beloved Dr Martens. Just a note on sizing - I went for a size up in both blazer and t-shirt as I wanted them to be an oversized fit. If you want it a bit more fitted, take your normal size!

I DON'T FIT IN & (I THINK) THAT'S OKAY

Throughout the blogging world we’re forever told to ‘find our unique selling point’ (USP) or find what makes us stand out amongst the rest. In an industry that’s full to the brim of INCREDIBLE content creators and (I hate this word but I shall use it this once) ~ influencers ~ it’s hard to make yourself stand out or find that USP.

For so long I have tried to get into words/thoughts/images what could make me stand out but, quite frankly, my mind always struck blank. (It’s not to say I don’t have faith in my own abilities or ideas, it’s just that the world is full of talented people and it shouldn’t be a competition we use to claw our way to the top). I tried to think of how I could determine my style in terms of a label or a category that may help but the more I thought about it, the more and more I realised that I don’t really ‘fit in’ to anything. I don’t think many people, or anyone in fact, can solely say they fit into one style category. That would be like trying to define my music taste (which is pretty bloody eclectic and weird) in ONE genre.

Taking a prime example from my music taste; one day I’m listening to Bon Iver on loop but, the following day I’m listening to the likes of Paramore, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and even Daughter. A total pick and mix, if you will. That too is how I feel about my style and my wardrobe.

When I went to the interview for my current job they asked me about designers or styles of clothing I like and I just sounded like I was listing all the brands I knew. I genuinely mentioned the fact that I majorly vary day-to-day. On a Monday morning I might be super minimal wearing all black; the next day I’ll be in a pink and red stripe jumper teamed with a mustard beret and a huge faux fur coat...

So my point here is this - me picking or defining my style would be impossible. You could ask me every day of the week and everyday my answer would vary due to 1) the weather 2) how I’m feeling that day or 3) the music that I’ve listened to on my journey to work.

I think hope you totally get where I’m coming from here and the point I’m trying to make...

I think it’s taken me a little while to actually write this post, because I was trying to figure out how to write it. Then I’ve slowly started to realise that not fitting into a category or a style of dress isn’t entirely a bad thing. Maybe, that in itself is a selling point? You know, “a twenty-something year old, that’s experimenting with the way she dresses because she’s not really sure what she wants to wear” - that kind of vibe.

At some point, sooner or late, I might find a style of dress I love and stick to. But, until then, I’ll keep on experimenting and stick to being weird. I’ll keep on working on the fact that I don’t fit in to a category and that’s okay.

REMINISCENT

Not so long ago - more than likely whilst stood freezing on the train platform - I was reminiscing about my holiday earlier in the year. I wasn't thinking about anything in particular (maybe I was just hoping the thought of warmth would make me actually feel it a little) but merely thinking of a time of year where I feel a bit more self confident.

When you suffer from eczema, winter is the enemy and sun? the best friend.But, it's not only my eczema that really affects my mood.

Waking up in a morning, when it's still dark, can really rain on your parade (quite literally) and that's something I'm trying to change. When thinking about summer, as lame as it sounds, it really brings me a sense of happiness. I know it's something that a lot of people suffer from - 'it' being winter blues - and don't get me wrong, I'm not self diagnosing here, but it's definitely something i've noticed myself feeling around this time of year.
Summer brings out the best in me - less stress, better skin and all round a sense of better well being. I love the warmer weather and always will, but that's not to say I'm not trying to embrace the cold a little more. This winter I've tried to buy pieces I love and experiment with a bit more colour to lift me up a little.
As much as I wish it were summer all the time, so I could walk around in denim shorts 24/7, there's something extremely cosy about the winter weather that I do enjoy.

Do any of you get this feeling? Or is it just me...

A NEW CHAPTER

I've finally found a job I'm very excited to sink my teeth into and also something that is very much routed in my heart. Menswear has been, and always will be, my passion and it's something I plan on chasing to the ends of the earth. Which is why i'm SO happy to share with you all that I've been offered a new role as an Assistant Designer! This new chapter of my life could spark big change and it's something I'm really excited for. I'll have my evenings back, and also my weekends (so I can spend time with my nearest and dearest) and hopefully start to feel a little more self-fulfilled. It's easy to become 'comfortable' with your current situation and it's something I've very much experienced.
Stepping outside the world that is retail is a daunting prospect, especially when it's something i've unfortunately become very used to. When I posted my 'where have I been?' post a lot of you responded and said that I shouldn't feel alone when sitting in a bit of a life rut and after that response, I most definitely felt supported by all of you so thank you, from the bottom of my heart. However, it left me wondering what other contributing factors also added to my delicate mental state at that time.

As I said, it's daunting stepping outside my comfort zone or something i'm used to, but it's a challenge and one i'm more than willing to face. For SO long I have craved routine and working in retail has in no way helped that. For days, months, weeks I have craved what would seem to many as a normal life; working Monday - Friday 9-5 or at least working more regulated hours so I can plan my free time more efficiently.
That factor ties heavily into my personal life and also my mental health. For so long after I finished university, I worked scattered shifts and the little free time I had, didn't align with anybody else's, which is why I have craved so much for change.
I've worked SO hard to make this happen and I'm suuuuper excited to start what could potentially be a new chapter of my life. I very much looking forward to sharing some of that chapter with you all and seeing where this adventure takes me but for now, wish me luck!

A FATHER-LESS ADULTHOOD

Personal content is always tricky but this is something i've wanted to write about for a while. With that said, I'm certain there's probably plenty of other people who are in the same situation or have had similar experiences. Just a quick note - don't get me wrong, I'm not here for sympathy, I simply wanted to talk about my own experience. Maybe you'll find some familiarity or maybe you'll find something you're unaffected by - either way I really appreciate you taking the time to read this post, if you manage to last the whole hog!
Since the age of 18, I've been without a father figure. In terms of time, when you think about it, that's not that long ago. I'm now 23 and it's become very normal to live in the situation i'm in. I don't question anything anymore, I just go on with life as everybody else would. The main thing i've noticed from all of this is my emotional walls. Those walls have grown another six or so feet and they're a lot harder to break down than they ever were before. If you get to know me as a person, I most likely come across very confident and outgoing. I'm outgoing, in the right situation, but on the inside, i'm as soft as anything. Honestly, the best comparison I can come up with of my inner-self would be to the composition a cookie. I appear to have a hard exterior but, on the inside i'm doughy and a bit flimsy. I hope you guys understand what I mean? Im very much aware it's a bit of a weird comparison but it's the best my mind can come up with at this point!
The whole thing has really affected my relationships - whether it be with myself, friends or my boyfriend. It takes me that bit longer to feel comfortable and put trust into people again. When you've been let down by someone close to you I think it's really natural for that to happen, regardless as to who it is. On this occasion however, as it was someone that bit closer, it affected me that bit more and again added to my reservations when it came to forming bonds with people. Being let down by one of the people who is supposed to support you the most in life really does start to chisel away at your self-confidence as well as your confidence in other people.

BUT, believe it or not, there's actually some positive things that have come from the situation. Let's start with my relationship with my Mom (and yes, I say mom not mum) for example. Over the years, we've grown a lot closer and it's something I'm really grateful of. I look back and think 'did I really need to tell her that?' on SO many occasions, but i'm so glad i've opened up to her a whole lot more.
The words of wisdom that she's given me are some that i'll never forget and hopefully some that i'll be able to share with my family someday. It sounds awful but, i'm almost grateful that things have turned out the way they have for us. Without these occurrences, we wouldn't have the relationship we do today. Don't get me wrong, we still have our moments but, i'm forever grateful to have such a selfless person to call my Mom.
As well, despite feeling those knock backs, I feel like it's also made my skin a little thicker. As much as I shouldn't, I expect to be let down by people - I expect the worst so to speak. I think that way, you become stronger in yourself and try to let things affect you less. Of course the above is something that i'd like to change but that's something that'll probably happen more and more as time goes on.

TALKING GIRLS & SELF CONFIDENCE

This post was most definitely inspired by the totally and utterly beautiful Alice Catherine, who writes a series called 'Girls Support Girls'. Her series is trying to bring girls together who have faced similar issues, so people don't feel alone. So, even if you don't read the rest of this post, go and give some of her posts a read because they're so heartfelt and honest.
Alice used the below quote and it really grabbed me; I'm certain it will resonate with a lot of you too.

I wanted to talk about the above quote Alice made reference to in her post. I know it's mainly focussed on the sexualisation of women but I also think it can be heavily linked to self confidence. I know when it comes to a lack of self confidence I'm not alone but, the reasons for that lack of confidence, again swing back around to the above quote. It's a cycle and a vicious one at that.
Women like looking sexy. YES! yes we do (despite this outfit being far from it.) So why should we walk along the pavement feeling scared that we may be cat called? Or be given sexualised looks? Let's be real, it's happened to all of us. We've gone out in our favourite skirt or tight fitting trousers and feel great about it... until we step out the front door. It like you have eyes in the back of your head and suddenly those old men sat on the nearby steps seem a whole lot more intimidating. It's pretty shit (sorry) that we live in a society where it tries to focus so heavily on safety yet, the basic biology of being a woman makes you a target and therefore compromising that safety.

For as long as I can remember, my long legs have been something I've had a love hate relationship with. On holiday, I'm fine, the people I see aren't my locals, the weather is warm and everything is a whole lot more relaxed. With a mojito in hand, those short shorts are out in full swing but the second we land back on english soil they're thrown to the back of the wardrobe, not to be seen until another sunny holiday comes looping around. Of course, we don't regularly have the weather to waltz around in short shorts here in the UK but, regardless, I don't feel comfortable doing it based on some of the above points and I know that ties back to my fear of being heckled when I go out.
I feel pathetic even saying any of these things and I think it's sometimes why I dress the way I do. I've never been one to dress overly feminine (as you can see on this post) - give me oversized or relaxed fit any day - but I do like to dress up and wear something a little 'sexier' once in a while. Just because I'm wearing something low cut or tight fitting 'doesn't mean (I) want to fuck you' so don't look me up and down as to suggest I do.

A COLOUR COMBO I'M LOVING

First things first, Happy Halloween! My god, I am the equivalent of scrooge this year for halloween, I've done absolutely nothing. I hate that as you get older the overloading excitement really just drops off the face of the earth. I mean, is it just me? or has that totally happened to you too? Anyway, enough enough and back to topic!

If you read my last post, you'd have noticed me mention about adding some much needed colour to my wardrobe. To be precise I said "I want to continue to add more colour and print into my wardrobe as I'm going through a bit of a wardrobe loathing phase at the moment" and that saying most definitely still stands! I went really back to the drawing board and started thinking about some potential key pieces I wanted to add to my wardrobe, without them being your 'classic' colours. I've never been one for a stereotypically 'girly' colour but there's something about pink in generally that has me totally and utterly HOOKED this season. How're you feeling about pink? Do you totally avoid it or are you keep to add more into your wardrobe? I'm still after some more key pieces (jeans, a jumper and maybe a jacket) but for now I'll remain totally smitten with this dreamy Topshop blazer I snapped up.

By no means is it a secret that red and pink are a colour combo to be reckoned with this season and, I can totally see why. I mean, we all have to start slowly, so I opted for a small red accessory to go with my pink on pink look. Neck ties are the perfect way to add a bit of fun and detail to an outfit without being overpowering. It's small things like that, that really start to build up my confidence in mixing colours together. It makes me want to experiment with colours that wouldn't generally be put together.

Prior to now, red and pink were potentially two colours never to be crossed but always so close to each other. I think it goes without saying that, in fact, those borders should have been crossed a long time ago and I'm certain you'll be seeing plenty more of this combo from me.

A LOVE FOR YELLOW

Well, bloody hell, it's a bit chilly isn't it? Let's just pretend like it isn't totally obvious these were shot before the cold weather shocked our systems...

It appears I have a huge affinity for yellow of late. Whether it be a bright yellow or more of a mustard, send it my way. I love full colour blocks or also just splashes of colour like you can see on these jeans. I'm really trying to get more colour back into my wardrobe and I've found yellow such an easy colour to throw on. I know that could be said for a lot of colours but, there's something (don't ask me what) that's just drawn me to yellow items recently. So what better way is there to show you all my love for yellow than for me to stand in front of a yellow shutter? Duh.

Queue the jeans with coloured stripes and this dreamy silk top from Joseph. I've barely taken them off since I got them. Pull & Bear, you have excelled yourself with your seriously funky denim. I've never actually owned a pair of jeans from them before, I normally go for the usuals; Topshop, Levi's etc, but they fit like a dream. In comparison to the likes of American Apparel, they're not as high waisted as I'd like but, considering the price, they're a total steal. Just to be a pain, I'm pretty sure they're now sold out but I mean, when you look at them, they'd also probably be a superrrrr easy DIY!

I want to continue to add more colour and print into my wardrobe as I'm going through a bit of a wardrobe loathing phase at the moment. There's far too many dark colours inside those doors and it's something I really want to change. I feel like the typical female; The phrase 'I have nothing to wear' is swirling around my mind and driving me slightly insane. SEND HELP.

I need to find some key basics, but in colour alternatives and also really kick start a wardrobe I'm in love with. Of course it's not always going to be the case but it's something I'm keen to work on. I just want to switch things up a bit y'know? Now were heading into autumn winter, it's a perfect opportunity for me to get the ball rolling. Naturally my head RN is 'coats, coats and more coats' but, I really need to bring it back to basics, have a clear out and start a fresh!

I'm going to have a clear out over on my depop but in the mean time, expect to see plennnnty more colour coming to the blog soon!

SPANISH DIARY ON FILM

Pinch, punch, first of the much. How on earth are we in OCTOBER already?! Waaaaah.
Before totally breaking into autumn (by totally I mean I'm holding onto summer for dear life) I thought I'd do a little diary of my time in Spain. I know these minor details may bore some of you but I wanted to try something a little different to document my time away. It may be a little rusty in parts but I hope you like it regardless and sorry, it's a lengthy one!
SATURDAY
We landed around 1pm at Alicante and had to get our hire car; after getting our car we headed straight for the villa which is a 45 minute drive up the east coast. We also managed to make an accidental detour of some significance but at least it meant we got to see some more of the Spanish coast... My mom's sense of direction for you.
After unpacking a few things we headed to the supermarket to pick up some essentials for the evening. Having to get up at 4:30am left us feeling a little tired, to say the least, so we got an early night after stuffing our faces with local food! I'm so happy to be able to be able to spend the week doing near enough nothing, sometimes your body just needs a break, you know? But with positives comes the opposite and, unfortunately, this will definitely mean I have to say goodbye to the summer weather for another year.

SUNDAY

This morning I got up early with my mom to do a workout, as you can see she was really happy about it... I'm not normally an early riser but on holiday I find I tend to wake up a little earlier as I'm eager to make the most of the day (and the weather).
This afternoon we went and got some more essentials before spending most of the day by the pool. I really did mean it when I said I was looking forward to doing very little this week... Were eating out this evening but I'm not quite sure where. I love eating out while I'm away; the food is so much better than in the UK.

We ended up going to the local harbour for dinner this evening and I can't for the life of me remember the name of the restaurant but, every time I've eaten there it's been amazing. There's also some amazing boats and cars to cast your eyes on whilst eating dinner so I guess you can't really complain, especially when you're stuffing your mouth full of chocolate mousse... Yes, that was totally me.
MONDAY

We just headed into Altea to grab some more food essentials. Honestly, food shopping here seems so cheap compared to back home. Everything is so much nicer too! Also, Allioli (basically garlic mayo) is my new favourite thing - I hate mayonnaise but seriously this stuff is something else... If you haven't heard of it, I'd recommend trying to get your hands on some because you'll totally understand why I love it so much.

TUESDAY

Time seems to be flying - as if it's already Tuesday. This morning we got up and ate some breakfast before heading to the local fish market. The fish here is honestly amazing!
I also managed to squeeze in a visit to Planet Vintage, a really cool fashion and homeware store on Altea's main high street. If I had a LOT more room in my luggage I'd be taking home several items of homeware. The pieces are amazing but so cheap compared to the UK! I found myself a pair of vintage Superga trainers which I'm sure you'll see more of in posts to come. I also saw some UH-mazing Celine sunglasses in the opticians but I resisted.
This afternoon I'm sunbathing in 28 degree heat, I'm definitely going to make the most of it before heading back to autumnal weather in Birmingham and the UK.
WEDNESDAY

This morning, after a relatively early wake up call, we headed to Calpe to climb the rock. After an exhausting climb we chilled on the beach and ventured into the sea. Honestly, I've never been in sea so warm! The Med was literally like swimming around in a huge bath.

Update! We went to a few shops and somehow I managed to find two local charity shops. I got an amazing suit, trousers and oversized blazer - all for 15€! I also went back in to the vintage shop to see if they had anything else for me to get my hands on, but I didn't manage to find anything. Tonight we're going to an amazing restaurant called 'La Capella' where they serve THE most amazing lamb with apricot.
SATURDAY

Unfortunately Saturday didn't really exist. With a much unwanted 6am wake up call, we had to grab our last pieces and head to the airport. I'm really not a morning person (and even more so on holiday) so you can imagine how unwanted that wake up call was...
As promised, a little rusty in parts but I hope you liked it nonetheless!

MODERN TAILORING

Good Morning there! I'm sat typing this whilst watching Pretty Little Liars (i've binge watched so i'm now on season 5...) and I keep getting distracted. I've been absolutely HOOKED from the first handful of episodes!! There's 7 seasons and I'm already dying to know who 'A' is, so please no spoilers...
First things first, thank you to Matt for these photos, i've linked to his work at the bottom of this post. We shot them in a building of studios in Jewellery Quarter and just look at those windows. Jewellery Quarter is filled with beautiful old buildings like this one; I regularly dream of living in a flat with floor to ceiling windows like these. I'm aware I don't look like i'm dreaming of windows (or anything happy for that matter) but, i'll continue to work on that one for the future...

But, in the meantime, say hello to my new-ish Joseph blazer. A little while ago, I went down to the Custard Factory to a designer sample sale. Think Joseph, Stella McCartney, Jil Sander and many more; it was all there. After rummaging around for a while, I found this blazer somehow marked down by 75%! I'm super happy with it and I'd really recommend having a look at Joseph for staple pieces.
I'm not normally one to go for double breasted blazers but it's the perfect fit and i'm a total sucker for the print. I feel like it's a real eighties throwback y'know? Think about this design emblazoned on curtains or carpets; something quiet extravagant but classic. That's exactly what this blazer it - the slightly-more-extravagant perfect classic.
I've teamed my blazer with a staple pair of Topshop mom jeans that I cut and frayed; I wanted to make it more of a casual look. So I've also thrown in an old blue shirt which really complements the tones of the jacket. I think though, i'd love to team it with a pastel or warm pink tone to really add some fun to the look, as well as a pop of colour.
The Topshop boots are also an all time FAVE of mine. Looking at them you probably wouldn't think they'd be very comfortable when, in fact, they're quite the opposite. If I want to add some height to a look these are always my go to pair. They're super comfy and go with pretty much anything.
Initially at full price I'm very aware that I may have hesitated. However, the more I read about the brand and see their products the more I understand about their brand ethos. The quality is insane and despite the high(er) price tag per piece, they're definitely investment pieces worth having in your wardrobe. Near enough every piece of their collection is a timeless staple. Below I've picked out some more of my favourite Joseph pieces.

A LAPSE OF TIME

Hello, you lot.

It's been a little while hasn't it? Cliche to ask but how are you? I hope you've been keeping well. I feel like I'm starting this post off in a very letter-like format... it's unintentional I promise.

Well, well, well, where do I start? If you have read previous posts and are still here, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's these past few months that have allowed me to get my life back, somewhat, on track and it's really starting to take route. I feel a little more grounded than previously, still not quite there 100% but life is never going to be 100% is it really? Always a working progress. And, that is exactly what my blog and I are; a working progress.

My feet feel a little closer to the ground than they did previously and I'm very thankful for that. I still have my moments (when I don't quite feel like I'm on the same planet as the people around me) but rest assured I'm getting there.

This blog was never intended to be a place of mental ramblings or a dose of my private life, but I feel like I'm starting to open up about that a lot more too. There's things previously i wouldn't dream of posting on the internet but, over time, things change. There may be the odd post here and there that you may not expect but, it's something i'm looking forward to doing y'know - changing things up a bit - so expect, the unexpected.

Well, good morning you lovely lot and sorry for being a little MIA on here. The past couple of weeks have been super busy BUT exciting for me too. I've just started a new job; so naturally I wanted to allow myself to settle a little and with that new job came a whirlwind trip to Paris! It was truly an amazing opportunity for me to be able to go but it left me mentally and physically drained. 6am wake up calls after hectic days are most definitely not for me but, of course whilst in Paris, one has to make time somewhere to take a stroll down Champs-Élysées and to see the Eiffel Tower somewhere... right?
Despite strolling down one of the most famous shopping streets in the world, I left Paris with absolutely no purchases in sight *sad face*. I guess that can only mean I have the rest of the month to make up for the poor show on my behalf. Have you been to Paris recently? Or been anywhere on holiday this month?!

Enough Paris talk (but srsly, go ASAP if you want to shop until you drop) and onto this bloody BABE of a jacket.
This uhhhh-mazing Ralph Lauren jacket (you you read that correctly) was kindly given to me by my mother after she decided it's not really something she'd wear anymore. Of course, I swiftly took the opportunity to stick my nose in and jump at the chance to take this from her wardrobe so thanks Mom! I mean look at the detailing on the back. The bead work is all hand done and it's absolutely unreal. i know it might not be everyone's cup of tea but, it's definitely mine!

THAT WHISTLES COAT

If there's anything I can actually say I like about the colder weather, it'd be the opportunity to wear big HEFTY coats like this beauty. Besides it being stupidly warm, I love the colour and of course being faux fur it's stupidly soft. I mean, just look at it?! Fluffy, pastel goodness. EVERYTHING about it is fabulous if you ask me, so a huuuuge pat on the back to you lovely people at Whistles for creating the perfect coat ~~despite the fact you're not meant to get it wet.~~

To add to the already 'polar bear esque' nature of this post, what the hell, why not add an actual polar bear into the mix? Sadly not quite literally but this jumper will have to suffice. If you follow me on instagram (if you don't you should) or have read the 'about me' or have read my blog for a little while you will know that I am in fact a Menswear Design Graduate. If none of the above apply to you, I guess you know now... But anyway, Christopher Raeburn was one of the first designers I discovered when entering into my menswear journey. SO when Bicester Village had a 'British Designers' pop up I couldn't resist this rather cute number.
Of course, one last thing. It wouldn't be a 'Charlotte' post without my beloved chunky Dr Martens. Sadly these aren't available anymore but for any of you that are interested these are called 'Bethan.' You might be able to get your hands on a pair via eBay or Depop!
