From the Project 2,996 website (http://project2996.wordpress.com/):

9/11/09 marks 8 years since the attacks of World Trade Center I and II, The Pentagon, Shanksville, American Airlines Flights 11 & 77, and United Airlines Flight 93 & 175.

On that day 2,996 people were ripped from their lives. But as the media and society tend to do, they have focused on the killers. We’ve all learned more about them than we wanted to. On that day many of us made a pledge to never forget what happened.

The bloggers listed below are trying to keep that promise by learning about the people who died that day. Use the list below to visit their sites and read about the people they have chosen to remember.

Tea-partiers outdraw the President 4 to 1 in Cincinnati.
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

Here’s a stark contrast for you:

On Saturday, 18,000 people from 3 states took time out of their holiday weekend, spent money out of their own pockets ($5 to park plus whatever they spent on food and drinks) to gather in a dusty open field for a Freedom Rally at Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH (see previous post). The speakers list included mostly local people of whom most of us had never heard, and featured a town hall with three Congressional Reps (including the House Minority leader) and a gubernatorial candidate.

On Monday, the AFL-CIO local had its annual dues-subsidized picnic at Coney Island, one of the tri-state’s most popular amusement parks: a union member could get parking, admission to the park, the picnic, and an all-day pass for all the rides (which would normally run around $35 without the food or drinks) for around $11. And oh yeah; their speaker was President Barack Obama (whose name they misspelled on their website, BTW).

Their turnout? 4,500.

Think about that: we pay our own way to spend the day in a dusty field in the middle of nowhere to promote the cause of freedom, and we draw 4 times as many people as the President does to a union-subsidized picnic at one of the area’s favorite amusement parks.

Says a lot about where America stands, doesn’t it?

The rally was held (fittingly enough) at Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH.

In 1942, the federal government contracted with the Crosley Broadcasting Corporation of Cincinnati to build a radio station capable of broadcasting its message around the world. That station was built on a 600-acre site about 25 miles north of Cincinnati, and housed an enormous array of radio antennas and transmitters and the 3.5 million watt radio station that became known world-wide as “The Voice of America” (Adolf Hitler often referred to the Voice of America as “the Cincinnati Liars”).

The Voice of America continued to broadcast from this site throughout the Cold War, and finally stopped broadcasting from here in 1994. The land was conveyed to Butler County MetroParks by the Federal Government in 2000, and the current park, originally named the “Ronald Reagan Voice of Freedom Park”, was dedicated in 2004.

Today’s event was jointly sponsored by the Cincinnati Tea Party, the Cincinnati 9/12 Project, the Ohio Liberty Council, Dayton Tea Party, and Tea Party Indiana. After an afternoon of music and speakers, the highlight of the day was a town hall Q&A session with Ohio gubernatorial candidate John Kasich, U.S. Representatives Jean Schmidt and Michael Turner, and House Minority Leader John Boehner.

My favorite moment?

As I was making my way into the event, there was a group of about 20 pro-ObamaCare protesters near the entrance to the park. One woman was holding a sign that said, “Honk if you support health care for all,” (or words to that effect), but I didn’t hear anyone honk the whole time I was stuck at the light. She looked so lonely standing there (and she appeared to be for real; i.e., not at all like the union astroturfers I’ve seen at other events) that I beeped, waved, and smiled at her as I went by.

I may have been the only one…

I just sent the following letter to my Senators, and I urge you to do the same (if you don’t know who Cass Sunstein is, follow the link at the end of this post – also, go to amazon and read some of the comments about his book, “Nudge” – scary stuff):

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose the appointment of Cass Sunstein as Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget. Despite his reassurances to the Senate that his personal views are irrelevant because he would “follow the law” if appointed, this appointment would put Mr. Sunstein in a unique position to weild enormous influence on regulatory actions that are not covered by specific law.

Mr. Sunstein’s views on animal rights are disturbing (in 2002, he wrote in “The Rights of Animals: A Very Short Primer,” “We could even grant animals a right to bring suit without insisting that animals are persons, or that they are not property.”), and his anti-agriculture statements are nothing short of alarming, when he says that, “the law should impose further regulation on hunting, scientific experiments, entertainment, and (above all) farming to ensure against unnecessary animal suffering.”

Even more disturbing are the views he expresses in his book, “Nudge”: his idea of “libertarian paternalism” (the oxymoronic idea that the anointed few are qualified to judge what’s best for the benighted many), and the back-door means which he advocates to achieve these paternalistic ends (he doesn’t favor outright “bans” on “wrong” behaviors; he favors limiting choices to a government-approved set of “right” behaviors) put me in mind of Orwell’s classic “1984″.

The idea of giving this man the power to influence policy at the national level – especially in an unelected (hence, unaccountable) position – is alarming, to say the least; if he uses his position to push his radical animal-rights agenda – to the detriment of the American farmer – he could endanger our ability to feed ourselves, let alone produce enough to export agricultural products. Worse still, his anti-free-market, paternalistic, big-brother view of the role of government and the economy have no place in a constitutional republic.

Review of Tom Woods's lecture at the University of Cincinnati on August 28, 2009
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

I had the pleasure of seeing (and hearing) Tom Woods (a senior fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and the NY Times Best-Selling author of Meltdown and The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History) at the University of Cincinnati last night.

And I was not alone: there were several hundred people there, and, as Dr. Woods himself pointed out, the fact that several hundred people were willing to spend a Friday night at an economics lecture is a pretty good indicator of the level of concern Americans have for the direction in which our so-called “leaders” have been taking our country.

What I found especially encouraging was the number of younger people in attendance: I expected to see mostly baby-boomers and some older folks; what I didn’t expect to see was a bunch of college kids and 20- and 30-somethings. But the UC chapter of Young Americans for Liberty had a table set up outside the event, and made a surprisingly strong showing for an organization so new (YAL came out of the Students for Ron Paul movement that began in the 2008 election cycle, establishing over 500 high school and college chapters with over 26,000 members in less than 8 months). I think it bodes well for our future that so many young people are actively promoting liberty and the Constitution.

I won’t try to reproduce Dr. Woods’s lecture here (I couldn’t possibly do it justice in any case), but I highly recommend that you go see him if you get the opportunity; he’s a very engaging speaker, and – perhaps more importantly – a brilliant economist who doesn’t let his brilliance get in the way of communicating his message in terms that all of us non-economists can understand and appreciate.

As an example, while talking about government regulation of the financial sector, he made the observation that the people who end up as regulators were the “slow kids” in college (think about it: how many people did you know in college who said their ambition after graduation was to become a government regulator? Yeah, that’s what I thought; me neither), and that if we thought the kids who graduated at the top of their class were going to have any trouble out-thinking and out-maneuvering the guys who graduated 503rd in a class of 505, we’d better think again.

If you don’t have an opportunity to see him live, I’d encourage you to visit his website (http://tomwoods.com/) and click on the “Media” link in the top navigation menu and read his articles and watch his videos. (Or just go to youtube.com and search for Tom Woods; you’ll find lenty of videos to choose from.)

I’d also encourage you to visit the “Media” section at the Mises Institute and absorb the free education in economics that you can get there.

Finally, I highly recommend his books Meltdown and The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, the Mason Dixon pollsters have Harry Reid trailing his only announced GOP opponent, Danny Tarkanian, by 11 points. Law professor and radio personality Hugh Hewitt has a great idea: donate $10 to Tarkanian’s campaign fund and send your receipt to Harry Reid, letting him know that there’s more where that came from if ObamaCare passes.

At a recent "town hall" in Belgrade, Montana, President Obama told some half-truths and some outright lies about the so-called health care (oops! I guess I mean health *insurance*) "reform" bill.
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

At a recent “town hall” in Belgrade, Montana, President Obama said, “…we’ve got to get over this notion that somehow we can have something for nothing, because that’s part of how we got into the deficits and the debt that we’re in, in the first place.”

While this is true, as far as it goes, it’s also more than a little disingenuous: the “notion that somehow we can have something for nothing” is how big government has always sold its massive social welfare programs to we the people; they talk a lot about how their latest scheme is going to help “the little guy”, and make us all better off, but they never talk about who’s going to get stuck with the bill.

(Hint: It’s never the geniuses who come up with these tax and spend schemes…)

The whopper came when the President promised that any tax hike to pay for health care would not come “on the backs of the middle class.” But (as anyone who hasn’t drunk the KoolAid™ knows) whenever a politician says, “we’ll never do that,” what they really mean is, “we’re going to do that at our earliest opportunity.”

And guess what, Mr. President? We’re on to you. As one attendee at the Belgrade event (not coincidentally, the same man who raised the question about where the money’s going to come from, if not from raising taxes) said he’s convinced that “somewhere along the line, the working stiffs… we’re the ones that are going to have to pay the bill.”

And of course, he’s right. We know it, and so does the President and his band of merry thieves on the Hill. They just don’t care, because they’re not going to be required to a) participate, or b) pay for this abortion of a healthcare boondoggle.

Here’s my (admittedly unscientific) attempt to visually show where the money for the health care bill is going to come from:

According to the most recent IRS data available1, the top 1 percent (grey stripe at the far right of the chart) of tax filers paid over 40 percent of all federal income taxes – that’s more than the bottom 95 percent of tax filers combined.

Also, according to the IRS, the top 10 percent of households (those with incomes roughly $100,000 or greater; represented by the green area at the right of the chart) pay roughly 70 percent of all federal income taxes.

On the other hand, non-payers* account for 32 percent (red area at left of chart) of all tax filers (*the term “non-payers” refers not to people who didn’t pay their taxes, but to people who were not required to pay any taxes).

Now, as I said, this is by no means a scientific chart, but it seems pretty clear, with almost a third of the population paying no taxes at all, and the top 10% already shouldering 70% of the tax burden, that the money will come out of the pockets of the rest of the population.

In other words, the middle class.

Come on, Mr. President, give us a little more credit than to think that we’re swallowing either the “something for nothing” half-truth or the “not going to raise taxes on the middle class” lie; neither one is even remotely believable, and we’ve heard it all before.

How about some real reform instead? You can start with getting government out of the health care business entirely, and taking your corporate shills from big insurance and big pharmaceuticals with you. Those two things alone will save us trillions of dollars and immediately improve health care for all of us.

In which I do my part to expose the disinformation being spread by irresponsible political gasbags.
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

My response to a recent bit of disinformation from Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee (the original text is in italics and indented to set it apart from my responses):

Dear Citizen:

There’s been a lot of media coverage about organized mobs intimidating lawmakers, disrupting town halls, and silencing real discussion about the need for real health insurance reform.

Actually, there’s been a lot of mainstream media hype put out by liberal sock puppets helping to spread the blatant lies being told by the absolutely amoral and totally shameless Democratic party, from the White House on down to clueless and malicious sock puppets like you, Jen.

BTW: it’s interesting to note that even the tiny little lizard brains of the bottom feeders who pull your strings recognized the impossibility of selling your wholesale takeover of the health care industry to the public at large; hence the “branding” change from the “health care reform” your maximum leader used to tell us we were all “demanding” to the “health insurance reform” that he’s currently telling us that we’re all demanding.

The fact is, Jen, we’ve always been at war with Eastasia. (Sorry, wrong book.)

The fact is, Jen, that the only thing we’re demanding is that the federal government do its job (look up at the banner for the concise job description) and leave us the hell alone.

Got it?

The truth is, it’s a sham. These “grassroots protests” are being organized and largely paid for by Washington special interests and insurance companies who are desperate to block reform. They’re trying to use lies and fear to break the President and his agenda for change.

The truth is, Jen, you’re a liar. Not only that, but you’re well aware that you’re a liar.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Maybe, since you seem to know so much about who’s funding what, you can explain why the Pharmaceutical lobby has pledged to spend up to $150,000,000 (yeah, that’s right: 150 million dollars) to run pro-ObamaCare ads this month?

Who is it that’s been bought and paid for by the corporate lobbyists and special interest groups? Huh, Jen? Got any clue? We do. Heck, even the Times (both NY and LA!) admits they know it:

Drug Industry to Run Ads Favoring White House Plan: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/health/policy/09lobby.html?_r=1

Obama gives powerful drug lobby a seat at healthcare table:
http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-na-healthcare-pharma4-2009aug04,0,3660985.story

Nobody’s spending that kind of money opposing your takeover, Jen; we’re just regular people who have had enough and are starting to speak out.

Get used to it.

Health insurance reform is about our lives, our jobs, and our families — we can’t let distortions and intimidation get in the way. We need to expose these outrageous tactics, and we’re counting on you to help. Can you read these “5 facts about the anti-reform mobs,” then pass them along to your friends and family?

Your health care takeover is nothing more or less than a power grab of massive proportions, Jen; you personally don’t care one bit about me, my life, my job, or my family, and the megalomaniacs you work for care even less.

Five facts about the anti-reform mobs

1. These disruptions are being funded and organized by out-of-district special-interest groups and insurance companies who fear that health insurance reform could help Americans, but hurt their bottom line. A group run by the same folks who made the “Swiftboat” ads against John Kerry is compiling a list of congressional events in August to disrupt. An insurance company coalition has stationed employees in 30 states to track where local lawmakers hold town-hall meetings.

These protests are being funded by individual Americans who are pissed off enough that overweening corruptocrats like Mr. Obama, Mrs. Pelosi, and their imperial court on Capitol Hill are trying to deliver our most basic freedoms and rights into the hands of boot-licking toadies like yourself that we’ve decided to let you know that the only thing we want from Washington is to do the job outlined for it in our Constitution (again, see above) and keep your hands off of everything else.

CLUE: There is nobody in this country who could remotely be described as in their right mind who’s afraid that your healthcare takeover could possibly help Americans. (Well, I suppose that there are some Americans it will benefit: corrupt politicians, the corporate lobbyists who line their pockets, and the slimy union bosses who lend you their goon squads to quell “angry mobs”.)

And “an insurance company coalition has stationed employees in 30 states to track where local lawmakers hold town-hall meetings“? Really? Do you think they’ll tell the rest of us where they are? Because you Democrats are such pussy crybabies that you have to run home to mama under police protection if a scary constituent asks a mean question like, “Have you read the bill?” And that’s if you’re brave enough to actually show up and answer to your constituents (i.e., to do your job), which many of you are not.

Asshats.

2. People are scared because they are being fed frightening lies. These crowds are being riled up by anti-reform lies being spread by industry front groups that invent smears to tarnish the President’s plan and scare voters. But as the President has repeatedly said, health insurance reform will create more health care choices for the American people, not reduce them. If you like your insurance or your doctor, you can keep them, and there is no “government takeover” in any part of any plan supported by the President or Congress.

If you were Pinocchio, Jen, your nose would be about 3 feet long by now; “government takeover” is not just “part” of the bill proposed by the President and his lackeys on the hill, it’s the entire reason for the plan, and you know it.

The man who “shopped the bill to Congress” (according to NPR, so you know it’s got to be true), UC Berkeley Political Science professor Jacob Hacker, has said outright that his plan was expressly designed to put private health insurers out of business, but to do it in such a way as not to “frighten people into thinking they’re going to lose their private insurance.” In other words, by stealth, misdirection, and disinformation.

And the President has repeatedly said that he intends to have nationalized health care by the end of his first term. The fact that he’s saying something different this week really means nothing to us, because he’s continually adjusting his propoganda depending on who he’s talking to.

For anybody who’s been living in a cave for the last few years, here’s an article with video footage of the President, one of his Chicago political cronies in Congress, and the architect of the takeover talking about it on C-SPAN, NPR, and other public forums (i.e., Jen, it’s no secret):

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/Video-proof-Obama-wants-a-single-payer-system-52699182.html

Plus, the bill is feely available from the Library of Congress (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.3200:), and people are actually reading it (unlike most of our so-called “representatives”).

What’s scaring them is not any fairy tales that mean insurance companies are making up to make the poor president and his Democratic sock puppets look bad; it’s the bill itself. The bill says what it says, and calling the people who point out what it says “liars” doesn’t change that.

It just makes you look like a moron.

And a liar.

Which you are.

As is the President, the Speaker of the House, and any other self-serving, influence-peddling, pork-barrel corruptocrat that says it’s not about a government takeover when they know damn well it is.

3. Their actions are getting more extreme. Texas protesters brought signs displaying a tombstone for Rep. Lloyd Doggett and using the “SS” symbol to compare President Obama’s policies to Nazism. Maryland Rep. Frank Kratovil was hanged in effigy outside his district office. Rep. Tim Bishop of New York had to be escorted to his car by police after an angry few disrupted his town hall meeting — and more examples like this come in every day. And they have gone beyond just trying to derail the President’s health insurance reform plans, they are trying to “break” the President himself and ruin his Presidency.

Ooooh, did little Timmy soil his armor? Did somebody ask him an unfair question, like, “Have you read the bill?” Those bullies!

Whose actions are getting more extreme, Jen? The President and the DNC send out a barely-disguised call for the union goons to come out and break heads, and what happens the very same night? Union goons come out and put Ken Gladney in the hospital in St. Louis:

http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2009/08/08/new-video-from-stl-town-hall-beating/

Good job, moron. Was that memo your idea? Did you feel all warm and fuzzy when your goons put that “teabagger” in the hospital? Did you and the goon squad get together at DNC headquarters afterwards and sing “Kumbaya”?

Hypocrites.

4. Their goal is to disrupt and shut down legitimate conversation. Protesters have routinely shouted down representatives trying to engage in constructive dialogue with voters, and done everything they can to intimidate and silence regular people who just want more information. One attack group has even published a manual instructing protesters to “stand up and shout” and try to “rattle” lawmakers to prevent them from talking peacefully with their constituents.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Jen, the only actual attacks to happen so far have been initiated by Democrats or their paid goons.

If there were actually representatives trying to “engage in constructive dialogue with voters” (hell, if there were actual “representatives”, but that’s another rant), I doubt that they would’ve been shouted down, except maybe by your paid thugs and your paid astroturf healthcare reform “supporters”:

Astroturf Recruitment at Craigslist: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/08/09/will-media-investigate-astroturf-recruitment-craigslist

OFA Astroturf recruiting: http://proteinwisdom.com/?p=15203

5. Republican leadership is irresponsibly cheering on the thuggish crowds. Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner issued a statement applauding and promoting a video of the disruptions and looking forward to “a long, hot August for Democrats in Congress.”

The day after your SEIU goons put Ken Gladney in the hospital for you in St. Louis, Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius had a conference call with them, thanking them for their support and encouraging them to “keep doing what you’re doing”.

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/07/sebelius-calls-her-seiu-brothers-and-sisters-to-battle/

Who’s irresponsibly cheering on the thugs again, Jen?

It’s time to expose this charade, before it gets more dangerous. Please send these facts to everyone you know. You can also post them on your website, blog, or Facebook page.

Now, more than ever, we need to stand strong together and defend the truth.

You’re right. It is time to expose this charade before it gets more dangerous, and I’m happy to do my part by exposing hypocritical lying gasbags like you who embody the putrescence that is the Democratic party.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity to defend the truth.

Thanks,
Jen

You’re welcome, Jen. Any time.

In which a socialist journalist (is that redundant?) seems surprised by Mr. Obama being more of the same old, same old, and picks a most unusual exemplar of the anti-elitist movement.
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

I read an interesting article yesterday. It was written by Chris Hedges and posted at truthdig.com1. Its title was, “Nader Was Right: Liberals Are Going Nowhere With Obama.”

I was struck by several things while reading this article:

First, I was struck by the fact that the author seems to be surprised that Obama is just the S.O.S. in a different package. Of course, the mainstream media did its best to help the Obama campaign cover up any trace of who the candidate actually was, or where he came from, so maybe the average American can be forgiven for being surprised, but the author proudly displays a banner that says he was named “Online Journalist of the Year”; you’d think he wouldn’t have been caught so off guard by what was pretty obvious to lots of other people who don’t have his journalistic credentials (or indeed, any journalistic credentials at all).

Second, I was struck by the fact that the author picked Ralph Nader to be the celebrity spokesman for the “anti-elite” movement. It takes Nader all of 127 words to refer to ordinary Americans as “the underclass.” Apparently the author agrees; a couple of paragraphs later, he joins in the celebration of the common man:

“They have been broken,” Nader said of the working class.

A little further into the same paragraph, Mr. Nader makes both his contempt and his cluelessness manifest:

“…And the liberal intelligentsia have failed them [the underclass]. They [the intellectuals] have bought into carping and making lecture fees as the senior fellow at the institute of so-and-so. Look at the top 50 intelligentsia – not one of them supported our campaign…”

Well, there you go: if only the rest of the liberal elites had gotten behind the Nader campaign, we could have been living in a worker’s paradise by now. (Oops! I forgot; Ralph’s not an elitist! My bad!)

The author then goes into an impassioned plea for a movement that can “act as a counterweight to the corporate rape of America,” that “must opt out of the mainstream,” and “articulate and stand behind a viable and uncompromising socialism…” One that “must become as militant as those who are seeking our enslavement.”

That seems reasonable.

Finally, I was struck by the fact that Ralph Nader and I actually agree on something; the article ends with this quote from Mr. Nader: “I know only one thing for sure: The whole liberal-progressive constituency is going nowhere.”

I agree that it’s going nowhere: socialism has never gone anywhere except backwards; witness this recent report from the Socialist Worker’s Paradise of Cuba (courtesy of breitbart.com2 and the Associated Press):

SAN DIEGO, Cuba (AP) – In China it’s the year of the ox – and it could be for Cuba, too.

President Raul Castro is promoting the beasts of burden as a way for the economically strapped communist country to ramp up food production while conserving energy.

He recently suggested expanding a pilot program that gives private farmers fallow government land to cultivate – but without the use of gas-guzzling machinery.

“For this program we should forget about tractors and fuel, even if we had enough. The idea is to work basically with oxen,” Castro told parliament Aug. 1.

So, there you have it: 50 years of socialist progress has managed to push the Cuban economy back to the 18th century. (But at least they’re not using “gas-guzzling machinery”…)

And this is exactly the kind of “progress” that “progressives” produce whenever (and wherever) they get their way.

Paul Krugman demonstrates that his grasp of sociology is nearly as tenuous as his grasp of economic reality.
This content came from TheSumOfGoodGovernment.com

Paul Krugman, who is to the Nobel Prize in Economics as Al Gore and the UN are to the Nobel Peace Prize, has apparently never heard the old saying that, “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

If he has, he has repeatedly ignored it, although perhaps never quite so spectacularly as he did in a guest editorial for the New York Times entitled “The Town Hall Mob” (published online on Thursday1).

With no apparent sense of irony, Mr. Krugman parrots the party line that normal, everyday Americans who take time out of their lives to voice their concerns about the healthcare takeover that the President and his congressional sock puppets are trying to shove down our throats – without even having read the bill – are an angry mob being whipped into a frenzy by crass, well-heeled special interest groups. (His words, not mine: you can’t make this stuff up.)

But not only that: these mobs are stupid people who don’t even appear to realize that Medicare is a government program, and so, can’t really be faulted for not being able to understand the nuances of the President’s healthcare plan, which almost certainly won’t include anything remotely resembling “Dr.” Ezekiel Emmanuel’s “Complete Lives System”, (as outlined in detail in his article “Principles for Allocation of Scarce Medical Interventions,” published in “The Lancet” on January 31, 20092), which the President (in a letter to Senators Ted Kennedy and Max Baucus dated June 3, 2009, and posted on the White House Press Office site3) appears to fully support.

Clearly then (or so Mr. Krugman’s twisted reasoning goes), since these ignorant, easily-confused people are incapable of reacting to the content of the President’s proposals (which they couldn’t possibly understand; only the self-anointed “saviors” of a once-powerful nation gone horribly astray, like Mr. Krugman and the President), they must be reacting to the President’s race!

A-HA! We’re against the healthcare takeover because we’re racists! What a towering intellect!

Mr. Krugman finishes his editorial by expressing his fear that, “if Mr. Obama can’t recapture some of the passion of 2008, can’t inspire his supporters to stand up and be heard, health care reform may well fail.”

Luckily, the very same night the Times published this appeal to reason, some of that fabled “passion of 2008″ (”If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” as then-candidate Obama said in Philadelphia on June 13, 2008) was recaptured for one brief, shining moment as the Democrat’s own goon squad – courtesy of SEIU – beat a man so badly outside of a St. Louis Town Hall meeting that they put him in the hospital.

Clue for the NY Times Editorial staff: next David Brooks has a day off, run a full-page ad, or skip his column completely; this kind of thing only lowers your credibility further (and it doesn’t have much ground clearance as is).
