This is the must have 'Daisy'' granny square blanket. The blanket is constructed from various sized granny squares is bordered with a gorgeous madonna blue. The blanket can be crocheted together with top seam as shown or flat so no textured seam.
The finished blanket measures 34“ x 34 “ approx.

Fasten off.
Rep to join rem Squares of Strip I, then rep to make Strips II and III.
RIPPLE PANEL
Notes for Ripple Panel:
1. The ripple pattern is easy to do, but it's important to remember that you may need to work several rows before the ripple pattern becomes clear.
2. The ripple in this design is created by working dc3tog to form 'valleys' and 3 dc all in one st to form 'peaks'. In each row, take care to work dc3tog over the 3 sts in each 'valley' and 3 dc in the center dc of each 'peak.'
3. Yarn color is changed to make stripes. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Fasten off old color.
Stripe Sequence for Ripple Panel: Work *2 rows each with F, E, I, H, G, D and B, then 1 row each with F, E, I, H, G, D and B; rep from * until 82 rows have been completed, ending with the fourth rep of a single row of G as the last row you work.
With F, ch 42.
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, *3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, dc3tog, dc in next 5 ch; rep from * to last 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 ch – 3 ripples.

GRANNY SQUARE:
Crochet 3 ch on hook size 4 mm with Merino Extra Fine and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch - see Square colours above.
ROUND 1: 3 ch, 2 tr in ch-ring, 3 ch, * 3 tr in ch-ring, 3 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times and finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round. Turn piece.
ROUND 2: Switch colour and READ CROCHET TIP. 3 ch, 2 tr in first ch-loop, 3 ch, 3 tr in same ch-loop, * 1 ch, 3 tr in next ch-loop, 3 ch, 3 tr in same ch-loop *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times and finish with 1 ch and 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round. Turn piece.

Police admit wrongly arresting woman assaulted at age 17, but mother criticises force for leaving her daughter traumatised

A rape victim falsely accused of lying by detectives has won £20,000 in damages after suing police under the Human Rights Act. The woman, who cannot be named, was 17 when a man raped her in Winchester in April 2012 after a night out with friends. Her mother reported the attack hours later and the victim told officers her T-shirt may contain her attacker’s DNA.

But the garment was never sent for forensic testing and weeks later the girl, who has mental health problems, was accused of lying about the rape and arrested for perverting the course of justice. During the arrest, one detective told her: “This is what happens when you lie.”

Documents seen by the Guardian reveal that detectives from Hampshire police decided within two days of the rape report that the girl was lying. A detective inspector, who was supervising the inquiry, told a junior colleague: “Fucking nick her.”

But six months later – after a complaint by the girl’s mother about her treatment – a new team of officers reviewed the investigation and informed the mother and her daughter that they believed her. The T-shirt was sent for testing, and the suspect, Liam Foard, was tried and found guilty.

Hampshire police have apologised to the family and admitted liability for false imprisonment and assault. The force accepted there was a breach of its duties to avoid or deal with “inhuman or degrading treatment” under the Human Rights Act to properly investigate the rape.

The victim’s mother said: “I’m glad that they had admitted they were wrong, but how many times does it have to happen? If it can happen to my daughter, how many more can it happen to?” She said her daughter had yet to receive an apology in person.

Four officers faced disciplinary action after an internal investigation by the Hampshire force’s professional standards department. Three avoided any sanction after they retired or resigned, and the fourth was given a written warning.

Debaleena Dasgupta, the young woman’s lawyer, said: “Many people wrongly assume the police have a legal obligation to investigate crimes. However, the only way victims of crime can seek justice for these sorts of issues is using the Human Rights Act, which imposes a duty on the police to properly investigate very serious offences.”

In the days after the rape, the girl was attacked twice in the local area and called a “pathetic rape victim”. The police investigated both incidents but no further action was taken. Eight weeks after her rape complaint, on June 22 2012, the girl was asked to come to a police station, where she was told she was under arrest for perverting the course of justice.

“I just thought, ‘What the hell is going on?’” her mother said. “I knew what perverting the course of justice meant, so I knew they were arresting her for lying about the rape. So at that time my daughter had just turned 18 and I insisted because of mental health problems that I sit in on the interview.

“She [my daughter] tried to run away – she just couldn’t believe it. And she did put up a fight in the police station.”

After her arrest, the girl was on police bail for months while Hampshire police consulted the Crown Prosecution Service about whether to charge her. “It was horrible, because it was like she might have gone to prison. And what would she do, how would she cope, how would I cope, how would the family cope?” her mother said. She added that her daughter’s mental health deteriorated as they waited for the charging decision, and that she began self-harming and attempted suicide twice.

“She was upset because she couldn’t believe that they couldn’t believe that it could happen to her,” the mother said. “We didn’t find out until a later date that they hadn’t done the forensics on the clothes. And that was partly the decision to arrest her, for perverting the course of justice.”

In October, on the day the teenager was due to answer bail, two officers visited mother and daughter at their home. “They told me that my daughter didn’t need to go to the police station to answer bail and that they now believed her story and they would now be taking over the investigation,” said her mother. “I remember standing in the living room saying, ‘They believe you, they believe you.’ She didn’t believe it. She had lost all faith in them by then.”

Documents from Hampshire police confirm that when forensic tests were finally carried out on the T-shirt, seminal fluid and DNA from the suspect were detected. The police documents state: “This was particularly significant as when interviewed for rape, Liam Foard denied any sexual contact with her.” Foard was convicted of rape in September 2013 at Winchester crown court and jailed for six years.

An internal investigation by the force’s professional standards department highlighted the impact of her arrest on the young woman. It said: “Given that she had been raped, reported the matter to the police and now found herself under arrest and being accused of lying, this must have been a particularly traumatic experience. Clearly, had the rape investigation been completed to the required standard, she would never have been arrested and interviewed.”

Chief Superintendent David Powell, head of Prevention and Neighbourhoods at Hampshire police, said: “We accept the way we initially treated this victim fell well below the standard we would expect. We deeply regret this and we took action at the time by referring this case to our professional standards department.

“We have changed our internal processes and any decision by an investigating officer to discontinue a rape investigation or release a suspect with no further action has to be agreed by an independent panel chaired by an assistant chief constable.

“I would like to reassure all victims of sexual assault that we do take you seriously. We do believe you, we appreciate how hard it is to come forward to report these offences, we do not judge you and we are committed to ensuring a professional and supportive response. We are doing everything to ensure we never have an initial response like this again.”

To all my friends who are going through some issues right now--let's start an intentional avalanche. We all need positive intentions right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. May I ask my friends wherever you might be, to kindly copy and paste this status for one hour to give a moment of support to all of those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just needs to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of all my friends just for moral support. I know some will!!! I did it for a friend and you can too.

Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket–Free Crochet Pattern Bernat

This Retro Rainbow Baby Blanket is perfect for baby boys and girls alike. The bright rainbow motifs will look great in any nursery. This is an advanced crochet afghan pattern for ambitious crocheters to complete. Sheep(ish) by Vickie Howell yarn is used. It's a great pattern to make for any mother-to-be, including yourself! This crochet afghan measures approximately 42 inches by 48 inches when complete.

2nd row: (RS). Join B with sl st to top of ch 3. Ch 2 (does not count as st). 1 hdc in each dc to end of row. Fasten off.
3rd row: (RS). Join A with sl st to top of ch 2. Ch 1. 1 sc in each hdc to end of row. Fasten off.**

Middle Strip Edgings
Work from ** to ** as given for Side Strip Edging. Rep on opposite side of same Strip.
With A, sew Strips tog into Blanket as shown in diagram.
Blanket edging: **1st rnd: (RS). Join MC with sl st to top right ch-2 sp corner of Blanket. Ch 1. *1 sc in each st to next corner, working 1 sc in each ch-2 sp. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in next corner ch-2 sp. Rep from * twice more. 1 sc in each st to end of rnd. (1 sc. Ch 2) in first ch-2 sp. Join A with sl st to first sc. Break MC.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION
This design begins by working an adjustable ring to create a neat, closed center on the finished Washcloth.
Adjustable ring method: Wrap yarn around index finger. Insert hook into ring on finger, yarn over and draw up a loop. Carefully slip ring from finger and work the stitches of Rnd 1 (in pattern, below) into the ring. When Rnd 1 is complete gently, but firmly, pull tail to close up the ring.

NOTES:

Washcloth is worked in continuous rnds. Do NOT join and do NOT turn at the end of rnds.

WASHCLOTH
Following the Technique Explanation above, make an adjustable ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1. Work 9 sc in ring; do not join. Place marker to indicate beginning of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 hdc in each sc around - 18 hdc at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: (2 dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next hdc) 9 times - 18 dc and 9 ch-1 sps at end of this rnd.
Rnds 4-8: (2 dc in next dc, dc in each dc to next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp) 9 times.
Rnd 9: (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp) 5 times, sl st in each st to end of rnd.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

NOTES:

1. Squares are crocheted, then sewed together in a strip to make the Bookmark. Braids are added to one end of the Bookmark.

MINI GRANNY SQUARE
With first color, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, (3 dc in ring, ch 2) 3 times; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 12 dc and 4 ch-2 sps. Fasten off the first color.
Rnd 2: With RS facing, join the second color with sl st in any ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp (corner made), *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp (corner made); rep from * 2 more times; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 24 dc and 4 ch-2 sps. SMALL BOOKMARK
1. Make 3 Mini Granny Squares in the following colors or colors as desired.
Squares 1 and 3: first color = pea green, second color = light blue
Square 2: first color = pea green, second color = purple
2. Sew Squares together to make a strip.
3. Cut 6 strands of light blue, each about 17 in. (43 cm) long.
4. Hold strands together and fold in half. With crochet hook, draw fold through center at one end of Bookmark, forming a loop. Pull ends of yarn through this loop. Pull to tighten.
5. Separate strands into 2 groups of 6 strands each. Divide one group into 3 groups of 2 strands each and braid, knotting strands at end. Trim remaining strands about 1 in. (2.5 cm) shorter, then braid, knotting strands at end.

MEDIUM BOOKMARK
1. Make 4 Mini Granny Squares in the following colors or colors as desired.
Squares 1 and 3: first color = hot pink, second color = pea green
Squares 2 and 4: first color = sparkling peach, second color = emerald
2. Sew Squares together to make a strip.
3. Cut 2 strands each of sparkling peach, pea green, and hot pink, each about 17 in. (43 cm) long.
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 of Small Bookmark.

LARGE BOOKMARK
1. Make 5 Mini Granny Squares in the following colors or colors as desired.
Square 1: first color = red, second color = dark blue
Square 2: first color = hot pink, second color = dark blue
Square 3: first color = sparkling peach, second color = dark blue
Square 4: first color = pea green, second color = dark blue
Square 5: first color = light blue, second color = dark blue
2. Sew Squares together to make a strip.
