Easy D.I.Y. Potted Herb Wedding Favors &/Or Place "Cards"

Live herbs such as Lavender, Thyme, Basil, Rosemary, or Mint in a terracotta pot are easy, charming, and inexpensive D.I.Y. wedding favors, & perfect for a summer wedding.

You can find the plants at your plant local nursery, Walmart, or the Home Depot during the spring and summer and easily transfer them to small terracotta pots with seed pans a week before the wedding day.

Take a calligraphy pen, write the name of your guests on the name of your guests on the popsicle sticks & these beautiful favors double as place cards!

2 Step Easy D.I.Y. Infused Olive Oil

Your guests will love these fruit or herb infused olive oil wedding favors - & making them is a breeze. One day of work that can be done up to a month before your wedding will leave your guests speechless. And they're absolutely perfect for a state park wedding where guests are grilling.

And you can keep your favors within a theme of your wedding with the flavor combination where your imagination is the limit. Two of our favorites are Oregano, Basil, Garlic, & Rosemary and Blood Orange & Cardamom.

You'll Need

- Light Olive Oil
- Fresh Whole Spices, Herbs Fruit, &/or Vegetables
- Blender or Food Processor
- Cheesecloth or a Fine Strainer
- A Funnel
- Glass/Acrylic Bottles - Find Glass Bottles w/Corks on Amazon
- Twine
- Crafting Scissors
- Tags

- Rubber Stamps & Ink

D.I.Y. Spice, Herb, & Fruit Olive Oil Wedding Favors

The easiest way to infuse oils is on the stove.

Heat the oil, herbs, spices, and/or fruits in a medium sauce pan until the oil is lightly bubbling - for around 5 minutes. A good guidelines is to fill 1/4th to 1/3rd of your pan with the herbs, etc., & the rest with olive oil.

Turn the heat off, wait another 5 minutes for the oil to cool, and it's ready to strain into bottles.

Tips, Tricks, & Important Things to Know

Blanch nuts or herbs being used, and make sure that all fruits or vegetables are completely dry.

Rinse, cut, & dry herbs overnight in the sun.

Leaving the herbs in olive oil looks amazing, but it will cloud the oil over time.

The olive oil will remain fresh for 3-4 weeks in the fridge.

And if you're infusing lemon, peppers, garlic - or any other water-heavy vegetable - the oil will only last around a week refrigerated.

Destination Honeymoon New Orleans: Accommodations, Food, & What To Do

If you're looking for a fun & romantic honeymoon New Orleans is one of your best options. The historic city features world renowned cuisine, wonderful jazz, & great things to do.

If you love seafood as much as I do, you may want to plan your honeymoon around the New Orleans Oyster Festival - June 3 - 4th, or the Louisiana Seafood Festival that happens in September.

Keep in mind the temperatures run 80° to 90° from April to October, & that it's even warmer in July & August!

This post features the most romantic New Orleans hotels & vacation rentals, the best places to have amazing dining experiences, and best things to do in NOLO.
Where to Stay

If you're looking for a hotel experience where your linens are changed nightly, but where it also feels like you're almost alone you'll love the Audubon Cottages as much as we do.

This collection of 7 one-bedroom & 2 two-bedroom suites has access to a saltwater pool said to be the oldest in New Orleans, surrounded by lush vegetation & wrought iron chaise lounges

Amenities at this french-quarter boutique hotel include daily continental breakfast, turn down service each evening, complimentary in-room coffee, tea, bottled water & soft drinks replenished daily, bathrobes and slippers, private or semi-private courtyards, WiFi, & more.

We also love the beautifully appointed rooms at the Soniat House (also located in the French Quarter) & their beautiful courtyard is shown to the left. The hotel was built as a private residence between 1829 and 1833, and the rooms are furnished with French & English antiques.

If you've got a little more money to spend we recommend the vacation rental Uptown Tropical Oasison VRBO show to the left. Renting for ~$483 per night this house features a private pool, hot tub, hammock, grill, & a garden of lemon, grapefruit, Satsuma, banana, hibiscus, & palms.

The Black Diamond Cottage is just as private & a lot less expensive at $175 a night, featuring a 'cocktail/lounge pool' and courtyard.

What to Do

Take a stroll down Bourbon Street & enjoy the electric variety of restaurants & music. Wander down Royal Street for antique stores & art galleries. View 18th century architectural treasures alongside street musicians in Jackson Square, five minutes from Bourbon Street.

At New Orleans City Park you can hear the finest local musicians live every Thursday, visit the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park with Ferris wheel & antique carousel, or walk through the Botanical Garden.

View the St. Louis Cathedral - built in 1849, visit one of the many historic cemeteries in the city, tour the New Orleans Museum of Art sculpture garden, or visit the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Old U.S.Mint.

Once evening comes try the upscale cocktails at the Cure. Head to Arnaud's bar the French 75 created by renowned mixologist Chris Hannah, or add some whimsy to your day with the revolving bar at the Carousel Bar & Lounge.

Take the Steamboat Natchez for an evening dinner cruise of the harbor & enjoy live jazz.

Or opt for a romantic private 50-minute tour of the City Park lagoons via Nola Gondola, where you are can B.Y.O.W. to compliment the crackers & cheese provided.

Where to Eat

You can enjoy fine dining in the morning at Brennan's Restaurant enjoying a romantic brunch in the garden courtyard. The menu features an artisanal eggs benedict with house-made Canadian bacon & cornmeal English muffin and a Louisiana craw-fish omelette.

And if you feel like could could eat them & move afterwards, while I'm not sure I could, visit Cafe Du Monde to try their famous beignets for breakfast - fried dough covered in powdered sugar.

When it comes to for dinner you'll love the Commander's Palace where Chef Tory McPhail has a “dirt to plate within 100 miles” policy, with up to 90% of ingredients sourced locally.

The restaurant offers modern creole food, has been in almost continuous operation since 1893, & is said to be one of New Orleans best restaurants.

And last but not least you won't want to miss out on getting great local oysters at places like Pascal's Manale Restaurant (raw oysters 1/2 off between 3-6PM, M-F!), and for the best charbroiled oysters (said to be some of the best food in New Orleans) you'll want to visit Drago's Restaurant.

Sunday Spa Day: Easy DIY Sea Salt, Rose, & Goat Milk Bath Soak Recipe

If you're looking to relax & spoil yourself a little, you're going to need to make this D.I.Y. Sea Salt, Rose, & Goat Milk Bath Soak recipe.

Sea Salt, Rose, & Goat Milk Bath Soak Recipe
Makes Approx. 32oz.

Ingredients
1 Cup Course Sea Salt
1/2 Cup Epsom Salt
1/2 Cup Colloidal Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Powdered Goat Milk
1 Cup Baking Soda
1 Cup Cornstarch or Arrowroot Powder
2 Tbsp Shea Butter
1 & 1/2 Tbsp Rose Essential Oil
Dried Buds/Petals as Desired

Melt the Shea butter in a double broiler, or on low in the microwave.

Mix the fragrance into the melted Shea bitter, & then slowly stir in the cornstarch until all of the butter is absorbed.

Now add the goat milk power, colloidal oatmeal, & baking soda.

And last stir in the Epsom salt & sea salt, mixing well.

Keep in mind that products containing powdered milk soap can curdle if left in extreme heat.

15 Great Places to Camp On The Beach in the U.S.A.

And with spring almost here it feels like summer camping trips are just around the corner, so we've put together a great list of 15 places you can camp on the beach in the U.S.A.

I've always wanted to camp on a beach. And I know there's going to be sand everywhere, but I'll get to hear the waves crashing as I fall asleep.

And as some of these sites have cabin, and I can certainly rent an R.V., I may end up honeymoon glamping at one of these sites in the next few years.

Before you head out, make sure you're prepared. Be aware of where it's safe to camp when it comes to tides & waves. Do your research, check out the website of the campground, & speak to the rangers. Never go out in the water alone, know the tides, & if there's no lifeguard bring a flotation device with you. And follow the rules of the site you're on.
And finally, make sure you bring everything you need because you don't want to have to pick it up at the last moment, & you don't know that you'll be able to.

Those are the things that are going to make your trip comfortable, & staying at one of the following state or national parks will make it amazing.

Jalama Beach County Park, California

Jalama Beach is less than an hour from Santa Barbara, & has amazing campsites - some of which are located directly on the beach. The on-site store has everything you might need, & there's also the Jalama Beach Grill to head to when you get hungry.

Point Mugu State Park, California

Point Mugu features five miles of shoreline, rocky bluffs, beautiful beaches, two major river canyons, & over 70 miles of hiking trails. You'll want to stay at the primitive Thornhill camp sites right on the sand.

Bahia Honda State Park, Florida

The Spanish meaning of Bahai Honda Island, is "deep bay," making this island State Park a paradise for fishers, boaters, & nature lovers. There are over 80 tents & cabins, white sand beaches, & you can rent canoes, kayaks, & snorkeling equipment right at the park.

Biscayne National Park, Florida

Biscayne National Park is an ideal place to snorkel or scuba dive, as 95% of the park is underwater. There's also a 7 mile trail to hike on Elliot Key. You may want to avoid the Boca Chita island campgrounds, as they've been known to be noisy at times.

Long Key State Park, Florida

Spend the night at the Long Key State Park's full service ocean-front campground, overlooking the aqua blue waters of the Keys. It's a great place for fishing, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming. There are picnic tables with grills along the shoreline, & a boardwalk through the mangroves. You can rent canoes & kayaks at the park.

Grand Isle State Park, Louisiana

Just two hours South of New Orleans, Grand Isle State Park is a beach ridge created by the action of the waves of the Gulf. The warm waters make it a perfect place for swimming, crabbing, fishing, & boating.

The park offers 49 RV sites with full hook ups, & 14 tent only beach campsites.

Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland

This protected seashore on Assateague Island stretches from Maryland into Virgina, & camping is permitted on the Maryland side. The ocean side campsites are large, sandy, & just a short trip on the boardwalk to the beach/.The local famous wild ponies may wander through your campsite, & the beach is a great place to collect shells.

Cape Cod National Seashore, Massachsetts

The only way to camp here is in a "self-contained vehicle" right on the beach, & it's open to 100 vehicles per night.

The great Outer Beach is protected within the national seashore, and offers 40 miles of pristine beaches, ponds, marshes, wild cranberry bogs, biking trails, & swimming areas.

Sandy Neck Beach Park, Massachusetts

Located in the town of Barnstable, Sand Neck Beach Park offers direct beach camping at primitive sites, & many beautiful hiking trails through 4,700 acres of marshland and maritime forest.

Deer Island, Mississippi

Camping here is going to take a bit of hard work. You're going to need to rent a boat, & carry in/out everything that you need, but you'll be heavily rewarded by pristine, untouched beaches.

Hammocks Beach State Park, North Carolina

This 3 mile long undeveloped barrier island is accessible only by private boat or the park provided ferry, & all of the sites are primitive. Water & other facilities are available from April to September.

Camp light as you have to bring everything with you there & back, and you're also going to have to walk a bit on the island to get to the facilities from your campsite.

Flamenco Beach, Isla Culebra, Puerto Rico

Isla Culebra is located between the Puerto Rico mainland and St. Thomas, and is well known for having one o the healthiest coral reefs in the Caribbean, making it one of the best spots for snorkelers & scuba divers.

The camp sites at Flamenco Beach are all primitive, located right next to the beach, & shaded by palm trees. And you'll have to bring a shower privacy tent with you as the showers are outdoors.

Hurricane Maria has left Puerto Rico's infrastructure damaged, & the area needs a little help to once again become the tropical paradise it was. You can donate to United Puerto Rico, a campaign spearheaded by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, by Clicking Here.

Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina

Hunting Island State Park is five miles of pristine beaches, thousands of acres of marshes, a saltwater lagoon, & a maritime forest. There are 100 camp sites to choose from with full hook ups.

The lighthouse is publicly accessible, giving visitors a chance to take beautiful photo's of the Atlantic Coast from 130 feet above the ground, and it's a great place to fish plus one of the only places I've ever heard of that rents rods & reels on-site.

Padre Island National Seashore, Texas

The sites at Padre Island National Seashore contain the world's largest undeveloped stretch of barrier island, & offer both primitive tent & RV campsites directly on the beach on a first-come, first-serve basis, & it's ideal for wind surfing at Laguna Madre, a protected hypersaline lagoon.

Kalaloch Campground, Olympic National Park, Washington

This campground is located on a bluff right off the beach, amid a coastal forest, & at low-tide giant tidal pools reveal sea urchins, mollusks, & crabs. And it's also a great place to spot whales, dolphins, & sea otters.

Sunday Spa Day: Copycat Ocean Face & Body Scrub Recipe

Welcome to Sunday Spa Day, where on the first Sunday of every month we're going to be sharing one of our favorite D.I.Y. beauty recipes with our readers.

This month's recipe is a D.I.Y. recipe similar to LUSH Ocean Face & Body Scrub, a recipe that both smells & tastes amazing. We love their amazing products, & we are not associated with them in any way.

The amazing ingredients in this recipe include Fucus Vesiculosus & Avocado Butter.

Avocado butter extremely rich in Oleic Acid, a wonderful moisturizing and regenerating fatty acid, that is naturally found in human sebum (oil), & studies have found that the oil can mobilize and increase collagen in connective tissue.

Lush Ocean Salt Scrub D.I.Y. Ingredients/Supplies

1 Tbsp Avocado Butter

1/2 Tbsp Lime Infused Vodka
Lime & Grapefruit Zest

1 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1/2 Tsp Fucus Vesiculosus (Bladderwrack) Extract

1/2 Cup Course Sea Salt

1 1/2 Cups Fine Sea Salt

1 Tsp Glycerine

1 Tsp Grapefruit juice

Small Containers

Lime Infused-Vodka Recipe

1 Cup Vodka

5 Key Limes, Sliced Into 1/8ths

Instructions: Place the vodka & lime slices into an air tight container, & place in a cool spot overnight for 24 hours.

Step 1. Get what you need supply wise the day before, & get your lime-infused vodka started.

Step 2. Mix the avocado butter, vodka, coconut oil, glycerine, & grapefruit juice.

Step 3. Add the salt, & seaweed.

Step 4. Add the grapefruit and lime zest!

Step 5. Test your scrub, & add 1/2 Tbsp of avocado butter & coconut oil until it's reached your desired texture.

Winter can leave your hair dry & frizzy, so we thought it's time to share this classic raw food-based hair treatment recipe with our readers.

This whipped avocado, honey, & olive oil hair mask recipe will leave your hair super shiny, silky smooth, & very moisturized.

The high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids in avocados make them a great natural moisturizer. And when hair is well-moisturized breakage is less likely to occur.

Honey is both naturally antibacterial & a humectant, & along with the olive oil, it helps seal moisture in.

Simple Whipped Avocado, Honey, & Olive Oil Hair Mask Recipe
(Enough for Shoulder-Length Hair, Double for Long Hair)
1 Ripe Avocado
2 Tbsp Olive Oil
2 Tbsp Raw Honey
2-3 Drops of Essential Oil (optional)

Mix the avocado, olive oil, honey, & essential oils in a small bowl or stand mixer, and whip until it's smooth & lighter in color.

Starting with clean damp hair, spread the mask - making sure to cover the ends.

Wait at least five minutes, rinse your hair thoroughly, & then wash and condition like you normal.

Campfire Camembert w/Fresh Figs & Plums
Serves 4

- 1 250g (9oz) round of Camembert (or Brie!) in Wooden Box
- 3 Ripe Plums, Stoned & Sliced
- 3 Ripe Figs, Stroned & Sliced
- Crusty Bread or Baguette

1. Remote all wrapping from the cheese, and return to the wooden box.

2. Wrap the whole thing in 3 layers of foil, and remember the right side up.

3. Place the box directly on embers. Cook for 10 minute,s occasionally turning, until the cheese is heated through. You'll know it's done when you can hear it bubbling.

4. Carefully unwrap & service with the fruit & bread. Take care as it will be extremely hot.

Feel free to tailor this amazing snack to your tastes with other flavors like rosemary or other fresh herbs, different types of jams or fruits, nuts or seeds, and/or roasted garlic. The combinations are endless.

4 Step D.I.Y. Succulent or Air Plant Terrarium Project & Tons of Inspiration

We love terrariums, & they make great - super easy - D.I.Y. gifts for your wedding party or guests.

In our new post we're going to teach you how to make a beautiful terrarium with succulents, air plants, or both.

You'll Need
- Glass Terrarium(s)
- Moss
- Soil
- River Stones, Sand, or Aquarium Rocks
- Air Plants &/Or Succulents
- Figurines &/Or Decorations

Keep reading for the full D.I.Y. project, tips & some inspiration for your easiest D.I.Y. project ever.

1. Start with a clean glass container, & place a layer of river rocks at the bottom. Cover with at least one inch of soil. The rocks are the drainage, & they help weight your container so that it sits or hangs well. You'll need to use sand or rocks, and no soil, if you're only using air plants in the terrarium.

2. Shake the excess soil from the roots of your succulents, & place in the terrarium along with/or place your air plants. It helps to dig a little hole into your moss with air plants, to help them stay up straight.

3. Place the moss, and your figurines &/or decorations.

4. Care for your plant by soaking it a bowl of water for 30 minutes, once a week - or spray with mist once every 4-5 days.

I'm a big fan of mimosa's & french toast, and I think the idea of a brunch wedding is wonderful.

It's also a fairly easy backyard D.I.Y. reception plan only requiring a few coffee carafes, baking a few quiches the day ahead of time, & a waffle maker - with china & glass champagne glasses if you're looking for something fancy, and mason jars if you're looking for a more relaxed theme.

On top of actually being awake enough to consummate your marriage after the wedding, venue's are often less expensive, guests are less likely to notice lobster missing from the menu, & the alcohol costs are lower.

It's also going to be tamer than an evening wedding, and we promise you that your guests will still boogy on the dance floor - and look better doing it with less alcohol in them.

Start prepping the day before your wedding, being ready to get up early. You'll have to arrange travel, book appointments for hair & makeup, pack anything you'll need, & care for your home/pets the day before. This is one of those times where your bridesmaid is going to be your hero, as now is the time to ask for her help in putting together a to-do list to make sure you don't miss a thing.

Easy D.I.Y. Dip Candles: Great Gifts & Wedding Favors

Here at The Sunshine Bride we are all about the easiest D.I.Y. projects, & one of the main reasons we're here is to bring them to you.

In our new post, we're going to teach you how to make easy D.I.Y. dip candles, that are going to give your wedding decor pop and double as gifts or favors for your guests. And trust us, it really is easy. I've made these from age 7, & I've only gotten better.

1. Cut the wax into small pieces, so they'll melt quicker.

2. Heat the water using a medium temperature to bring to a gentle boil, & place the wax into the top of your double broiler. *Never heat wax over 275° F, wax flashes from liquid to flame at 375° F.

3. Stir until the wax has reached a temperature of 160 F/71 C, and it's completely melted. Turn the heat down to low.

4. Add color chips to the melted wax, & any scents you've chosen. Stir well until blended. Make sure the wax is staying at at least 160 F/71 C the entire time.

7. Cut the wick to your desired length, with a little bit extra to hold. Ex. If you want 2 10' candles, cut around 23 inches of wick.

8. Double the wick over your finger, and tip the wick in the wax for a few seconds, and lift out. Allow the wax to cool between each dip around a minute or so, & make sure the wet candles don't touch each other.

9. Continue until your candles are the thickness you're looking for, and after a few layers you speed up the cooling process by dipping the candles into cool water after each dip. If your candles become uneven you can roll the warm candle on a smooth surface.

10. Increase the temperature until it reaches 182 F. Dip the pair into the wax one more time for a few seconds. Lift out then let them cool.

11. Using a sharp knife trim the bottoms to remove excess wax and to create a straight edge bottom for you candles, & hang them to dry.

12. Hang your candles to dry. Once they are dried you can cut the wick. Time to enjoy your new creation!
