CoverGirl Professional Loose Powder

I am constantly on the hunt for a face powder that I absolutely love and so many that I pick up just don't do it for me, this CoverGirl, unfortunately, is one of those. The one I have is the Professional Loose Powder with the brown cap, in the shade Translucent Fair.

I use face powder every single day to set my foundation and concealer so I'm looking for something that doesn't normally provide a ton of coverage. I always purchase the translucent powder or the fairest/ivory shade since I absolutely hate when products are darker than my skin (plus it's easier to make face products look darker with bronzers and what not rather than make it a lighter shade). I'm also not partial to either pressed or loose powder, if it does the job I'm happy.

As a whole this powder just did nothing for me or at least didn't work the way I wanted it too. The biggest thing that I noticed is that it oxidized on my skin after wearing it for a few hours. Mainly I noticed it on my chin and it bothers me so much when that happens! I even tried it with multiple foundations and it was the same result each time.

My second complaint was that my t-zone started to become greasy and I would have to either blot or use even more powder throughout the day. I understand if you have to do it once, maybe, during the day but when it's multiple times and then I'm worried about how much my foundation and concealer broke down then I'm just not interested in using the product ever again. Although when I wasn't exerting myself (as in not working or even running around town) then it wasn't anywhere near as bad.

At the end of the day I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has even slightly greasy skin because mine isn't normally greasy but I still had that sheen after a couple hours. Also if you have very fair skin I would recommend steering clear because even though it says that it's translucent fair it's too dark on my skin and I know there people even more fair than me. So to wrap it up, I wouldn't repurchase this product because everyone's skin is different and this could act completely different on you than it did on me.

St. Ives Fresh Hydration Lotion in Naturally Indulgent Coconut Milk & Orchid Extract

This really seems to be the rage with the lower cost/drugstore body care brands. It all started with Vaseline having the spray lotions (from what I've seen and yes I still need to try those out!) and now St. Ives has their own version. The one I picked up was the Coconut Milk & Orchid Extract but there is also two other kinds which are Energizing Citrus & Vitamin C and Naturally Soothing Oatmeal & Shea Butter. Each of the three scents also have a regular body lotion that comes in a pump bottle and body washes.

I gravitated toward the coconut scent more than the others and since these suckers cost around 7 - 8 bucks! So I really only wanted to try one in case I didn't like them. The packaging is clean and white with a colored spray top differentiating between the different scents/types. So far I have had no issue with the nozzle clogging or spraying weird and it twists so that it is "open" or "closed" so if you travel with it, it won't accidentally spray all over your bag.

On the back of the canister it has three "claims" which are: 1) freshly moisturized skin without the heavy lotion feel, 2) contains 100% Natural Moisturizers (glycerin, shea butter), and 3) Dispenses evenly with one all-over spray. From what I've experienced I definitely agree with 1 and 3 but I'm not science-y enough to know if 2 is true or not.

This sprays out in a fine mist depending on how far away you hold the nozzle from your skin (closer = heavy spray, farther = finer/lighter spray) but either way you do have to go back and rub the product into your skin, this isn't a spray and go type thing. The lotion is very light and non-greasy and the scent is great, not over powering and very clean. I find this to be a great option during the hotter months because it moisturizes enough without being the type of lotion that starts to melt when it's too hot. Also the scent is light enough that it won't compete with any type of perfume you want to use or other scented products.

The few dislikes or cons I are very minor in my opinion. First off like I already mention, this is a great hot weather moisturizer but it doesn't last in the bitter cold months that I deal with in Michigan so for part of the year I won't be using this. Next I wish that this was a spray and go product and that I didn't have to rub it in because it would make moisturizing my back so much easier. Lastly the price seems a bit steep compared to other drugstore moisturizers and the other St Ives lotion (this is partly because I'm cheap!) so I'll just have to watch for sales!

So overall, I don't mind it and will be definitely using this during the summer or for the warm weather vacations.

OPI Liquid Sands in Make Him Mine

You know that moment when you're in Ulta and are just staring at a product for a good five minutes debating whether or not to purchase it? That's what happened with the OPI Liquid Sands polish in Make Him Mine from the Maria Carey holiday collection and when I walked out of the store I really thought I would regret it. This is my first Liquid Sand or any type of textured polish experience and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised! I really thought it would be a weird looking, matte lumpy grossness on my nails but the flecks of the fine glitter are really pretty, and the sandy texture didn't bother me at all like I thought it would.

I found that the polish dried quickly, as in I would put a coat on and by the time I finished the opposite hand it was nearly dry, even the second coat dried that fast (which is nearly unheard of for me at least)! Another wonderful aspect of this particular polish is that I could have easily gotten away with one coat, it was that opaque! Although I did apply two coats just for good measure so it'll be great when I'm in a pinch and need something STAT.

This polish is amazing, I absolutely love it but it did chip within one to two days on me which is typical for any polish. I don't have very strong nails, they're thin, flimsy and bendy (that's the best I can describe them!) so polishes just don't last on me even with insane amounts of base and top coats. So I can't really dock the polish because of that but because of the texture it seems like it would chip faster than the typically gloss or matte polish I just can't say since those usually chip within the same amount of time.

Overall, I think this is so pretty! It's a great neutral with a twist for when I don't want to be too flashy but still want to be interesting (sounds so mysterious!). I will definitely be purchasing more of these and I currently on the hunt for a great berry/purple shade!

Nail Of The Day

I have this in my July Favorites post and I felt the need to show you how pretty it is! This is the Revlon ColorStay polish in Rich Raspberry. For starters, I absolutely love the formulation of the Revlon ColorStay polishes, they last a decent amount of time on my nails without chipping or cracking even when I don't use a top or base coat. Second, I'm drawn to any polish that has raspberry in the name. For some reason I feel the need to own it. For me, I would wear this shade year round, it has that perfect color to it that makes it possible. I really can't wait to get more of these polishes!

Just Favorites: New Product Loves

Yes I know I just posted about doing the P100P and on having a buying ban until I complete it but the products I'm showing in my favorites are ones that I purchased before going on the P100P.

First up I have two nail products that I really enjoy. The Sally Hansen French Manicure White Tip Pen was something I randomly saw at Ulta and picked up since I love the look of french manicures but hate having to pay a ridiculous amount for someone else to do it. This is so easy to use, it has a tip that reminds me of the Tide-To-Go sticks and you have to press the tip in to get the polish flowing at first but once it's started the polish goes on smooth and more opaque (although I do two coats because that's how I function!). Personally I'm so glad I picked this up, way easier than trying to a nice straight line with a brush.

Next up is the Revlon ColorStay Nail Polish in Rich Raspberry. This is a polish that I would wear year round, it's just one of those colors that works like that. Plus it looks good with my fair skin!

Now for some face/beauty products and this next one is something that has been raved about for a long time! The Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amour is the one I picked up and I love it! It comes off more of a bronzy color than berry (which you'll see in the swatch) but I like the glow it gives my cheeks. I will definitely be on the hunt for more of these.

A recent mascara purchase in the NYC High Definition Mascara and I am someone who likes to have some length added to my lashes and this works very well for being a cheaper mascara at the drugstore. It has good staying power and doesn't seem to flake that much on me.

Okay so I know that lip products are my biggest weakness and that I can help buying a ton of them every time I go to the store but I just couldn't get enough of these. First up is the Calvin Klein CK One Lip Gloss in Ravished. This is a beautiful red gloss with shimmer that is so creamy and smooth and soo pigmented! I found that it stays on the lips for a decent amount of time but if your lips touch anything the color with transfer and get all over the place!

I walked by the Stila After Glow Lip Color in Party Pink so many times before I purchased it. Now I didn't get it because of the whole glowing under a black light thing but because the pink was just so darn pretty! It was almost half off one time at Ulta and obviously I gave it. I also love the jumbo lip pencil craze right now so that was just an added bonus.

Lastly I have three of the NYC Applicious Glossy Lip Balm in Apple Blossom, Apple Plum Pic and Pink Lady. These are flipping awesome! They're around $3 each and have decent pigmentation plus they smell really good (and don't forget the cute little apple shape in the middle of the stick!). These remind me of the Maybelline Baby Lips but less of a balm and more of a sheer lipstick but you can still throw them in your purse and apply whenever.

Easy Everyday Eye

Normally I make sure to have enough time to do my makeup however I want to but there are those days when I just can't get out of bed and moving quick enough. I like to keep things soft and simple and use only two shadows with some liquid liner and mascara. Those two products are a Maybelline Color Tattoo and L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte. I've actually seen multiple beauty gurus on YouTube use a couple of these and that's where I got the inspiration from.

What I like about the Color Tattoos is that there are multiple colors that look good with my skintone and my favorite four are (listed from top to bottom) Bad to the Bronze, Inked in Pink, Bold Gold and Barely Branded. I use my finger to apply it all over my lid and you can apply as heavy as you want but I find with the Color Tattoos, the thicker I apply (if using them as a base!) the heavier the powder shadow looks and it doesn't look smooth at all. So I usually apply a light to medium layer for this particular look.

Then I just take a shadow brush and apply the Iced Latte shadow over top. After I apply the powder shadows, sometimes it will look cakey so I blend it out with my finger and it seems to make a big difference.I love the way it looks! It's so shimmery and light and just so pretty. I especially like that the Iced Latte shadow is a little sheer so depending on the light you're in it could give you a slightly different look every time.

See what I mean. That powder just captures the light but you're still able to see the cream shadow. To finish off the look, I use a liquid liner to create a very thin line on my upper lash line and use a good volumizing mascara, both in black because I like that dramatic difference between the shimmery shadow and dark lashes and liner. This literally takes a minute for me and I could use my finger for the whole thing and not use any brushes. It's so easy and I also think it's great for the summer time since those Color Tattoos are long-wearing and don't crease at all.

One thing that I have notice though, is to be sure that you don't have a harsh line of the cream shadow at or above your crease, make sure to blend it into the lid a little before apply the powder shadow because that powder basically sets the cream and it is a pain to blend out the edges afterwards (at least it is for me!).

I've been hoarding my trash for the last few months and from what I can gather I use up face and body products way faster than everything else. But I'm pretty pumped to say that I used up some actually makeup!

Olay Fresh Effect {S'Wipe Out} Face Wipes Will Repurchase. Not too wet or too dry and helped remove my face makeup. They were scented but it wasn't offensive to me. I liked to use other wipes or removers for when I'm wearing any waterproof products.

Neutrogena Makeup Hydrating Makeup Remover Wipes Will Repurchase. I've used multiple packages of these and haven't had any issues. They remove my makeup including the waterproof mascara that's usually a pain. The only thing for me is that I still washed my face again after using these because they were so damp that I just couldn't handle and didn't want all that residue left on my face but I still really liked them.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub Will Repurchase. This is a HG item of mine, I alternate it with an Olay scrub, but this is my most used and purchased.

Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover No Repurchase. I actually didn't mind this product, I just probably won't repurchase because there are so many more facial cleanser out there for me to try and many that I also find work even better than this one. It feel into the average range of cleanser for me.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Possible Repurchase. I still haven't decided if I would get this again, just like the Naturals Cleanser I didn't mind and it feel about average. But it does have the acne stuff in it and it worked well with my skin since most of the time any of the salicylic acid cleansers irritate my skin or leave it red where this one doesn't.

Pure Silk Rich & Luxurious Shave Cream for Sensitive Skin No Repurchase. I just really didn't like this. It didn't allow my razor to glide across the skin and it clogged it which made it all gross. It also seemed to dry out my skin afterwards, I don't know I've only had that happen with this shave cream.

Skintimate Moisturizing Cream Shave Will Repurchase. Unlike the Pure Silk, this worked really well for me. I initially brought for a vacation but I just kept on using it afterwards. It made my legs feel smoother for much longer than the Pure Silk and I didn't have problems with the razor.

Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash Will Repurchase. I use this when I have problems with my eczema. I usually have flare-ups when I'm under a good deal of stress and this seems to help clear it up faster since it doesn't have any scent to it.

Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash Will Repurchase. I would like to get this again if I ever start to shrink down the massive amount of body washes I have. It's very creamy and moisturizing and I just really enjoyed it. It does have a very strong smell to me, a bit more floral.

Bath & Body Works Paris Amour Body Wash Will Repurchase. I actually already have repurchased this. It is my absolute favorite scent from Bath & Body Works, it's just amazing. It's more of a grown up/mature scent compared to all the floral and fruity goodness they have.

Seche Vite Top Coat No Repurchase. I know a ton of people love this, I just don't. It got all goopy in the bottle plus it seemed to make my polish shrink on my nail as weird as that sounds. I've also found other quick drying top coats that I like a lot more and are cheaper.

Sally Hansen Triple Strong Nail Fortifier No Repurchase. This wasn't bad especially for my thin nails but it made them so hard and it dried really thick feeling so my nails would actually break more often when I wore this.

Maybelline Master Drama Pencil Eyeliner in Mindnight Master Possible Repurchase. This was very dark which I liked but it did smudge under my lower lash line which was a tad annoying. I'm going to try a few more liners before I decide if I want to get this again.

Urban Decay Primer Potion in Greed No Repurchase. This worked well but it's just way to expensive for me to justify purchasing again when I can get stuff that works just as good for a quarter of the price.

Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara Will Repurchase. I love this stuff, I've been using since high school and will continue to do so. I don't get a crazy dramatic lash with this but it does give me a very natural but more distinct look plus it does keep my lashes nice and soft.

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes No Repurchase. This was okay, the biggest problem was that the brush didn't seem to hold a lot of product so I constantly had to keep going back to the tube to reload and that was from the beginning.

Milani Infinite Liquid Eyeliner in Endless (Purple) No Repurchase. This became a weird consistency not long after I purchased it. It got really thick and was difficult to apply a nice, even line.

EOS Lip Balm in Sweet Mint Will Repurchase. I have so many lip balm but I really did like and am planning to get again sometime soon. It is a good balm to wear under other lip products because it's not thick and it's glossy at all. Plus I LOVE mint lip balms.

L'Oreal True Match Powder No Repurchase. Another average product for me, it did the job but it wasn't amazing. I think there are other powder that are just as good or better for less money.

Crest 3D Whitestrips Will Repurchase. I once again have already repurchased these. I know some people have sensitivity after using them, I normally don't have a problem but I also don't end up using the entire box at one time. I'll just use a couple strips when I feel like I need to.

Bath & Body Works Signature Vanilla Lemon Triple Moisture Body Cream No Repurchase. There's a couple reasons why I wouldn't get this again. The first, it's discontinued and the second, I have sooo many of these body creams I could go well over a year without purchasing any body lotion and be fine. I did like the scent though.

L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Lotion in Medium-Deep No Repurchase. I used to love this but I found that I would rather spend a little more money and get really good color with one application. Plus the scent was terrible.

Secret Scent Expressions Deoderant in Cocoa Butter Kiss No Repurchase. I just felt this didn't work for me, it wore off and I would have to reapply constantly.

Bath & Body Works Fragrance Mist in Dark Kiss No Repurchase. Just like the body creams, I have so many it's ridiculous. The scent though, really nice. It's more of a night time scent and just delicious.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Strawberry No Repurchase. I really liked the scent I just didn't feel like it moisturized my skin like I thought it should plus kind of expensive.

Now I can't wait to start another bag of empties!

My Morning Skincare Routine

I don't always want to admit it but I am absolutely terrible at keeping up a skincare routine, especially at night. So recently I became determined to change that and forced myself to go through all the steps morning and night. Now I'm finally getting to the point of it become habit (go me!!) and wanted to show you guys what I use. I'm a big lover of all things drugstore since I can get products that are just as good if not way better than the higher end brands (not saying I don't want to try them regardless) for a portion of the price.

In the morning I don't use a heavy duty of super harsh cleanser and it's almost always one of those self-foaming kinds. They leave my skin feeling refreshed but not stripped. Currently I'm using the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser. This, I think, would be great for people who have sensitive skin but I don't recommend trying to use it to remove makeup.

Next up, I have always used a gently scrub everyday or at least every day that I washed my face. I alternate between two of them. The one I'm using right now is the Olay Pore Minimizing Cleanser + Scrub. Once again it's not harsh on my skin but it still exfoliates enough so my skin and pores aren't clogged. The other one I use is the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Scrub which is my all time favorite scrub.

After washing and scrubbing I use some type of astringent or toner. This I still haven't found one that I absolutely love so I'm constantly using different ones. The one I'm trying out now is the Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent. I'm indifferent about this product, not the greatest but also not the worst thing I've used.

I then moisturize with the Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer. I'm not a huge fan of this moisturizer but it does the job, doesn't break me out, and I might as well use it up.

For my eyes I'm using the Aveeno Smart Essentials Anti-Fatigue Eye Treatment. I enjoy using this in the morning even though it doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me. I really want to try some other roll-on eye treatments once I finish this one up.

Last but not least when I'm going to be outside or anywhere I'm in contact with the sun, I apply the Neutrogena UltraSheer Liquid Daily Sunblock SPF 70. I really like the Neutrogena sunblocks because they don't leave my skin grease and I don't burn with I use them. This one is great for under my makeup because it doesn't seem to cause any breakdown of my products plus a crazy amount of SPF for my fair skin.

Of course then I apply my makeup and go about me day!

Friday 5: Products to Use Up

I'm in the mood to use up some products so I dug through all my stuff and found the five products that are getting close to being all gone! Plus I'll be crazy proud of myself if I really can use up the rest of these because I usually have to throw away (sometimes a decent amount) product that is left over because it went bad.

First up is the Cover Girl Eye Trio in Shimmering Sands. This is actually my second set of this trio and I love it. It's my go-to for work which I'm actually going to start wearing bolder shades since I'm getting sick of the neutral shades. Regardless this is a great palette. I've found that the Cover Girl eye shadows to be hit or miss, some are fantastic and soft in texture with good pigmentation while others are hard and give barely and intensity in color. These are the fantastic ones and as you can see I already used up one the shadows and have majorly hit pan on the other two.

Second is the Clean and Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. Currently this is my night-time moisturizer, it's not greasy or heavy and leaves my skin soft and smooth. I've already used about 3/4 of the bottle and I want to use it up so I can move onto one of the other many moisturizers I already own.

Third is The Body Shop Body Butter in Strawberry. I know this is the small size (only 50 ml) and that I only have like one or two uses left but there is still product left so I counted it. It has a natural strawberry scent (not overly artificial which is a nice change) and is nice and thick. I have another small tub of this to use once I'm done plus ssoooooo many other body lotions and butters to use up so I won't be picking this up again for a while.

Fourth is my Maybelline Dream Matte Powder. Love this stuff. This is my second or third repurchase of this which I won't be getting again for a little while so I can try to use up and try some other ones. As far as texture and staying powder I wouldn't say that it's something amazing (at least for me) but what I love is the color, it's hard to find powders or any face product that actually is close to my skin color is so hard so once I do find something I usually repurchase over and over again.

Last is the CO Bigelow Rose Salve. I've had this forever and is actually the product out all I've listed that will take me the longest to use up. I truly want to just use it up to get rid of it. It's nothing special in my book.

Summer Beauty Must-Haves

Summer has finally hit where I live and I was thinking about the products I needed to either buy or dig out of the back of my drawers which, of course, then lead to this post.

First off, my fair skin needs some protection! I really like the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock in SPF 45. I find that it doesn't get sticky or greasy when I'm out in the sun and humid air plus it prevents me from getting burned (and yes I reapply constantly, about one every hour to hour and a half). My lips are also sensitive to the sun so a lip product with SPF is always fantastic, my personal fav for summer is the SoftLips Watermelon balm with SPF 20. Not only does it have a great fruity scent but quite a bit of sunscreen without leaving a white cast on my lips (don't get me wrong I do look fantastic with white lips but every once in a while I like to look like I'm still living).

Up next are long-wearing products. The Maybelline Super Stay 24 Concealer is fantastic in my opinion. It covers my blemishes and imperfections without looking cakey and, if set with a little powder, will last all day even if I get sweaty (I can't guarantee it will last through a entire day spent at the pool but it will stay for a few hours at least). I also am not a fan of painting my nails every other day in the summer so the Revlon ColorStay Nail Polishes are awesome. The colors I have are (from left to right) Bare Bones, Marmalade, Bold Sangria, Calla Lily, and Cafe Pink. I find that they last days longer than nearly all of the drugstore polishes I've tried plus I love the shades it comes in.

Now for the lip products. I wear more red in the winter and switch to a brighter pink shades. The "lip stick" of choice (I use the quotes just because some wouldn't consider it to be a lip stick but I do so to each their own!) is the Revlon Lip Butter in Sweethart. Love this shade plus a little girl came up to me when I was shopping and told me my lips looked like Barbie's, how could I not wear it after being told that! When I'm not feeling as bold I like a sheer gloss that still gives a brighter pink pop such as the L'Oreal Colour Riches Le Gloss in Watermelon Crush. Don't be fooled by the name, it does not smell the watermelon or any other fruit for that matter, it's vanilla (a slight disappointment for me but I guess I'll live). This is no where near being opaque but just barely enough color to make it interesting.

So pretty!

In the hot summer months I don't use heat on my hair except for a rare occasion here or there, so have I get out of the shower I use the John Frieda Frizz Ease Leave-In Conditioning Spray. This is a Holy Grail item for me, I've lost count how many times I've repurchased but I just love it so much. It helps to detangle my hair and I think it leaves it feeling softer than if I just let me hair air-dry with no extra products outside of my shampoo and conditioner. For my face moisturizer, I had to specifically go out and buy this again, it's the Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream. It's not heavy or grease and leaves my skin soft, moisturized, and cool (I feel a nice cooling feel after I apply). It truly is refreshing for me and costs less that $8.

Last but not least is my choice of scents. I don't have anything specific I wear in the summer but I prefer to wear the Fragrance Mists as compared to the Perfumes. They're lighter in formulation and not has heavy in scent especially during the day. My pick recently has been the Bath & Body Works Fine Fragrance Mist in Paris Amour. It's just a great scent, a little more grown up than the fruitier scents but still good for day time (I also LOVE the fruity scents!) and it doesn't overpower my senses.

Now I can't wait for the rain to slow down a bit so I can actually enjoy some sunlight!!

I'm Cutting Myself Off: Clear Lipgloss Edition

Unfortunately this isn't even all of them!

I have a problem. It's out of control. Recently I've noticed that I like to buy a ridiculous amount of the same item. For no reason at all apparently. My biggest beauty offense in this hoarding lifestyle is clear lipgloss or the glosses that have that light shimmer that doesn't really show up at all but I just keep getting more and more! The two stores that KILL me are Victoria's Secret, the beauty rush lip gloss, and Bath and Body Works, the CO Bigelow and Liplicious glosses, because I'm a sucker for scents. So my mission is that when I want to get a lipgloss it has to have color/pigmentation to it, it must!

What is the one product that have way too much of but just keep buying? I want to know so that I don't feel alone!

First Impressions: Neutrogena Shine Control Primer

The cat managed to just get her toes in the pic!

My skin is normal to slightly combo, I get oily spots just to the sides of my nose, on my chin, and the very middle of my forehead. When I don't use any primer with my current foundation and powder I get oily very fast (in my opinion) like with 2-3 hours. So now you know what my skin is normally like now on to the primer!

When I first opened the product I instantly notice the strong smell, it a clean scent not too feminine or masculine, just strong (so if you're sensitive to smells beware!). Also the actually product is a white cream that reminds me of clay for some reason.

After first applying it, my skin felt much "drier" so I'm not sure how that would work for those who already have drier skin. I initially applied my makeup at around 6 am and started to notice slight shine on the very tip of my nose around 2 pm (that would be 8 hours for those who are counting!). Then when I got home at 4:30 pm, there was more oil to the sides of my nose.

I think that it would have worked for an even longer period of time if I wasn't at work. The building I work has temperatures all over the place from room to room, one room is freezing and the next is warm and muggy. It's really annoying to me and my outfit is either too warm or not warm enough. So the fact that the primer lasted until two in the afternoon, I can't complain.

I'm going to be trying this out with other face products and other places so maybe I'll find a combo that works awesome with this! I guess we'll have to see but in my opinion it's so far so good!

Ulta Haul

Recently I've had the shopping bug and finally decided to go shopping. I kind of put myself on a buying band to try and use up some of the many products I own but I'm running out of setting powder plus there's some products I really wanted to try out. Of course then once I get out to Ulta, they have quite the number of products on clearance.

Tresemme Touchable Softness Shampoo and Healthy Volume Conditioner: I once tried Tresemme about 7-8 years ago and I felt it was time to try again. Also for some reason I always purchase the volumizing conditioners because I want something lightweight since my hair is so long (heavier conditioners make me have the sexy helmet head look)

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Sassy & Daring Wild: This has been all over the beauty blog-o-sphere and I've recently joined the band of dry shampoo maniacs so I had to try it.

Neutrogena Shine Control Primer: This is another product that I was looking to try. I start to get slightly oily approximately four hours after I apply my makeup so I'm hoping this will help a little.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Foam Face Wash: For my morning facial wash, I love having a foaming product and I ran out of my other Neutrogena Acne Wash (the orange product) so hopefully this is the best of both worlds.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Lotion: Just like the Batiste, this has been popping up more on blogs and YouTube channels and I instantly wanted it. Unfortunately today is raining. Isn't that how it always happens?

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent: As I mentioned above I've been running low on powder. My current favorite is the Revlon Naked powder but I also wanted to try out some others. This Rimmel powder I've heard some good things about and I know I've tried it before but if I liked it or not completely eludes me.

BareMinerals Try. Believe. Love Starter Kit: BareMinerals is a product I've always wanted but never got because 1) I'm worried it would break me out, 2) it's expensive, and 3) how would a flipping powder work like that. So this was on sale so I couldn't come up with a good excuse not to try it. It comes with the original foundation, the matte foundation, the mineral veil and the concealer, plus two brushes.

Cover Girl Advanced Radiance Pressed Powder in Ivory: I figured why not try this one out also. I don't normally have the best of luck with the Cover Girl powders (I get oily noticeably faster with Cover Girl compared to almost every other powder I've tried) but maybe it's got a different formulation that is better.

Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof Mascara in Very Black: Another popular product but I've seen quite a few negative reviews out there which made me even more curious about it. Plus I always get the waterproof version and always in the blackest shade I can get.

L'Oreal HIP Matte Shadow Duo in Dashing: The comes with a salmon/pink and a black matte shadows. I've tried other HIP duos and found there a bit 'hit-and-miss' but these were discounted at almost 75% off so I could justify trying them.

L'Oreal HIP Crystal Shadow Duo in Charming: This has a silvery with a touch of goldish/taupe to it and a purple shimmer shadows. Like above this was also discounted but all the shades I picked out I would wear even if there is a ton of pigmentation.

Rimmel Glam Eyes HD Eyeshadow Quad in Heart of Gold: Another discount purchase but regardless, I love wearing golds and browns on my eyes.

Cover Girl Nature Luxe Gloss Balm in 240 Muscat: Both shades I picked up looked very similar but this one is a brighter red (on the left in the picture below) and has red shimmer in it.

Cover Girl Nature Luxe Gloss Balm in 245 Pinot: This leans a bit more to a wine shade with more of a gold shimmer in it. Both apply more sheer but are buildable and feel very light on the lips.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Onyx Rush: Yes I'm very fair skinned and yes this is a flat black nail polish, but I love black polish and needed a new one.

I love any type of nail look that has glitter involved and this is one that I really enjoy wearing, it reminds me of mermaids or other mystical creatures. The base color is Revlon Nail Enamel in Fashionista with Sinful Colors polish in Hottie. This Sinful Colors polish gives a ton of sparkle in one coat which is awesome in a glitter polish because so many times I have to put layer upon layer upon layer of polish so get the amount of glitter I want and then it never fails to chip like the next day. And then I want to break things. What's a girl to do?

Friday 5: Favorite Hand Creams

I work in the healthcare field so I'm constantly battling the woes of dry and cracked hands. So I decided I would share my favorite five hand creams ranging in the "moisture intensity." Also I have purchased multiple of these products and truly love them and always have at least one with me at all times. The products will be listed by the increase in moisture.

First up is The Body Shop Wild Rose Hand Cream. This is actually the most expensive at around $18 but out of the five I have, it's the least moisturizing. It feels slightly watery but it all absorbs and your hands don't feel greasy at all. It is a strong rose smell (at least to me it's pretty small) so if that type of scent bothers you at all I wouldn't recommend it.

Second in the Vaseline Healthy Hand & Nail. I have repurchased this for many years and I have noticed a difference with my hands if I use it consistently every day. This is one of the cheaper hand lotions I've found at around $2-3 and can be found at most drugstores. The smell though isn't very good and also very hard to describe but if you've used Vaseline before you probably already know what it smells like.

Third is the True Blue Spa Paraffin Super Softening Hand Lotion from Bath and Body Works. This is the best smelling out of all the lotions, it has a very slight sweet orange scent that reminds me of the orange tic-tacs (which are amazing!). This comes in two sizes, the smaller costs $6 and the larger is $12 I believe. I'm not sure if the packing has changed at all but the latest I've seen is the pink like above.

Fourth up is the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. I'll be honest this is almost like an ultra moisturizing gel. This is for when my knuckles start to crack and during the winter. There is an option for one that has fragrance which is a powdery/perfumy scent but I personally get the unscented because it doesn't burn in the cracks when I use it. The cost is about $3-4 and I've actually seen this at more stores than the Vaseline lotion. I would definitely check it out if you have the really dry skin.

Last up it the Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream. This is now packaged differently, it's it a squeeze tube like the rest of the lotions. This stuff if heavy-duty. It doesn't absorb completely so your hands are left a bit greasy but it is serious amazing. It used to come it a kit that had a scrub and soap but I couldn't find that on the website. It's priced at $13 on the website. I especially like to use this at night and sometimes I'll put gloves on to keep the product on my hands and not all over my bedding.

Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara

Yesterday I put this mascara in my April Favorites and I made the comment of how I hated it when I first got it. I was seriously contemplated just tossing it because that's how much I despised this. Luckily one of my makeup flaws is that I refuse to give up on a product to the point that even though I absolutely hated it and tossed it previous I will still repurchase just to "make sure" I didn't like it. Even I think I'm crazy sometimes. In this case though, it turned out for the better which doesn't normally happen.

First off the packaging is square, nothing crazy, silver in color with pink writing (I really like the color combo though!). The brush is also not that special to me, it a thinner with the old fashion bristles (not the plastic or rubber like the Cover Girl Lash Blast). The product has the little fibers in it to help lengthen your lashes which you can see in the picture below.

When I first tried this it did absolutely nothing for my lashes, they were clumpy and wet/smearing all over the place and from what I saw, there was minimal lengthening. Then I let this sucker dry out for a month or two and it became a completely different product. It wasn't as wet and no longer transferred to my upper and lower lid. Also it was so much easier to apply multiple layers and it really lengthened.

I've heard folk tales of letting the mascara dry out for a while and using it again but I have never had it work like this one. It was like magic.

It is officially the month of May!! Which means for me it's actually going to start getting nice and warm outside. This month in my Favorites I have some rediscovered and some new, either way, I can't seem to stop using them.

Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara
I'll be totally honest, I hated this when I first got it. At one point this month I was pulling out products that I planned on using up and this ended up being one of them. Now I couldn't tell you what happened but for some reason it does all the right things.

Philosophy Purity Face Wash
This is quite expensive compared to the amount of money I'm used to spending on face washes but it just works so well. It's not too harsh but still removes my makeup and I have no irritation.

Taylor Swift Wonderstruck Perfume
I love the smell of this. It's a sweeter smelling perfume but I find that it's good for day and night time.

Revlon Scented Nail Polish in Raspberry Rapture
The color of this is so perfect for spring and summer. It has a nice opaque look after only two coats, dries in a decent amount of time and really does have a very slight fruity smell after it's completely dried. How fun is that!?!

Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
One of my favorite lip butters, this is just a great neutral color that I can apply without a mirror. For spring I really like peach toned makeup and this obviously falls into that category.

ELF Eye Lid Primer
I just did a review on this and it is honestly a great product for super cheap. It really does keep my shadow in place all day.

Ulta Cheek Color in Afternoon Delight
More of the peach products. I'm normally not a powder blush fan but this color is just wonderful. I actually look for this product everyday to apply.

ELF Eyelid Primer

One of my biggest peeves with makeup if fading eyeshadow! If I spent all that time meticulously applying it, that shiz better flipping stay. Another annoying thing, so many primers are ridiculously expensive and not sold in many areas (you gotta purchase online) especially if you live in a small town. Although more drugstore brands are coming out with products that could be used as a base such as the Maybelline Color Tattoos I'm still looking for something that is comparable to the higher end products.

The ELF Eyelid Primer is only ONE dollar. So obviously I was skeptical about how good it works but this stuff is amazing. It comes with a doe-foot applicator that doesn't hold a ton of product, as in I do one eye and have to go back to the tube for more product to do the second eye. The packaging is really simple with nothing really noteworthy but I really like how compact it is so it won't take up much room in my makeup bag when I'm traveling.

The color of the primer is so sheer that I can't really even see it after I apply and blend it into the lid. It's creamy but feels just a little watery (if you compare to the consistency of the Urban Decay Primer Potion) which I think cause it to crease just slightly if left on your lids with no shadow on. If you apply the shadow right after putting the primer on there is no creasing but if you put the ELF primer on then leave it for a minute or two it sinks into the crease of the eye.

After the shadows are applied it doesn't move all day, I didn't notice any fading, flaking, fall-out or creasing. I'm pretty sure that you won't find a better deal for any eye primer. I found that it is comparable to the Urban Decay Primer Potion, the biggest difference is the ELF primer is slightly more watery in consistency and creases a bit when no shadow is applied but other than that it's very similar.

Maybelline Line Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner

I had such high hopes for this liner. There are many great reviews and I feel like a lot of people rave about this product plus I usually really like Maybelline products but this liner was just wasn't up to par.

First of the packaging is really simple and clean, not really a whole lot to say on it. The applicator is a nice thin sponge tip that is easy to handle and to get either a thin or thick line depending on the look you're going for.

My biggest gripe with this is the product itself. I found it had a watered down or sheer appearance which made it lack in pigmentation. When I apply black liner, I want it to be black not the way this comes off. I had to apply multiple layers to get the level of "darkness" that I was looking for and sometimes applying liquid liner just once is hard enough but to have do at least two or three. It feels like a sick joke.

I guess at least once it's there it doesn't fade or flake throughout the day unlike others so I can't complain about that. Also it comes off so easy, whether you use just soap or makeup remover, you won't have to rub or pull on the eyes.

Honestly I'm hoping that this is just a dud and that it really is a great product.

Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Mad For Mauve

I purchased this quad quite a while ago and have grown to love not only this one in particular but all the shadows in the Eye Studio line. I personally find the packaging to be cute and unique, I could definitely pick out of a bunch of shadows and know what it is. The Mad For Mauve quad comes with three different shades of pink/mauve and one lovely green shade. Each shadow is packed with shimmer so if you're looking for matte shades these are so not what you would want. Luckily I love shimmer and anything glitter.

The first shadow is a pale pink that I like to blend out any harsh lines or as an overall base. On my skin tone the shade comes off more sheer and looks like just shimmer. The second shade is a great mauve that is just so pretty. It comes a little darker on my skin than what it looks like in the pan. The third is the lovely green I mentioned above. I think this was a great addition to the quad it makes it seem all floral and romantic. The last is a darker mauve that looks gorgeous in the pan but is a little bit of dud when I swatched it. It wasn't as vibrant and looked very dull in comparison to the other shadows.

All of the shadows are soft, easy to work with, and blend with little effort. They have the feel of a higher end eyeshadow for a fraction of the cost. I really can't wait to try more of these.

A Little Get To Know Me Tag

Since it's now the weekend I thought this would be a fun little ditty to do! I love when other bloggers do these so it's my turn! This one in particular I found on Beauty Broadcast.

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?

My hair is slightly wavy. Although there are pieces of my hair that are really curly like at the base of my skull and then chunks that are straight. Basically I don't let it dry naturally often or ever really.

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?

I go to the salon. I get all over highlights and when I'm feel sassy I get red lowlights. I honestly don't feel comfortable do any type of dye job at home by myself, I tried a washout color and my hair ended up a fire engine red. It was bad. Scarred for life.

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?

I like to change things up depending on what I'm doing. For work though I wear the same thing everyday which would be scrubs. I work in a hospital. Not a whole lot of room for self expression. So instead I like to mix things up when the hubby and I go out.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or do you go to the salon?

I do my own unless I want the gels or tips and what not. I just can't imagine getting a basic color that would actually cost less to get my own bottle of the exact polish and do it myself many times over.

5. How often do you change your nail polish?

I go through phases of every week to every couple of days to bare nails for weeks. Basically, I'm inconsistent.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter, or just the summer?

I almost always have to have polish on the toesies. Otherwise they look like weird little naked peanuts to me.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?

It depends on what I'm doing for the day. For example if I'm going to work I only wear certain looks so it only takes about 15 minutes for the full face but if I'm going out I like to take my time.

8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?

Face. It's just wrong for me to do eyes first. Like I fell into an alternate universe.

9. Do you collect makeup or do you just buy makeup when you need it?

Overall, definitely a collector, but I once again go through phases of needing to use up some of what I have and wanting to purchase everything.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?

I don't. Ever. I'm practicing with them but I do have a hard time still. And I managed to get a huge glob of glue in my eye one time and I swear all the glue on the strip was nearly dry.

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?

It depends on the condition of my skin. If I'm having more of a breakout kind of week then I do apply a full face so I can blend in all of the different products but if I only got a mini blemish or two I end up just slapping on a little concealer and powder were needed.

12. Do you wear makeup when you're home alone or with family?

Yes, maybe not always when I'm home alone but I always have something on whether it's concealer or mascara. Obviously I don't count lip product because I can't function without having something on my lips.

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?

Yeah, when there's a huge storm and it's not in the interest of my safety to leave which minimizes the chances of coming into contact with anybody. But on a serious note I rarely leave with nothing on my face. I love makeup and love applying it, so it's not a chore or anything of that nature.

14. How many high-end products do you have?

In comparison to all the drugstore I have maybe it's about 10% of my collection. It takes me a while to actually get something because of the cost of certain things.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you're getting ready?

If whatever it is I have to do is early then I plan the night before but if not I do it when I'm actually getting read.

16. How often do you change your handbag?

Whenever I get a new one. If I have a special occasion I'm attending I'll change up the bag but if not I have a basic brown and a black one I switch between so I'm not clashing horribly.

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?

Well my sleep schedule is a bit crazy. I work two jobs that are occasional positions which basically means I work whatever shift needs coverage. So one day I could work at 7 am and the next my shift may not be over until 2 am. So I just do the best I can to get the amount of sleep that I need.

18. How often or when do you work out?

I really don't go to the gym a whole lot which I either need to start or end my membership so I'm not paying for it every month but at home I do around 3 days a week.

19. Left or right handed?

Left! For eating and writing. Right for athletic stuff (I grew up in a small town and all my coaches were right handed so they switched me so they could figure out what I was doing, apparently it looks wrong)

20. How tall are you?

I'm 5'5''

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?

22. How many pets do you have?

I have two dogs both lab sharpei mixes and a cat.

23. How often are you on blogger?

As for actually blogging once again I'm inconsistent I could post multiple days a week then nothing for a month or two. But I'm on here reading other blogs every single day.

24. How did you come up with your blog name?

Well the website address Woolly Mermoth is a nickname my husband had for me in college and trust me it's not even the worst one, luckily I now find it amusing and thought it would be great. For the actually name of the blog it was something that I changed time and time again and Freckles and Fauna just sounded good to me since I do have quite a few freckles.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?

I do but on the same note I just want to own everything so a list is just the ones I want first.

26. Do you read comments posted on blogs?

Sometimes. I do most often when it's a product I'm really interested in just to see what others have though about it too.

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?

I alternate between my iPhone and my Nikon Coolpix. I have yet to invest in a really nice camera, maybe one day.

28. How often do you clean your house?

I'm cleaning something almost everyday but a crazy cleaning spree usually happens once a week when the hubby and I have the same day off.

Going to a little celebration for one of my husband's and one of my best friends (who are married) after they found out what the gender of their first baby is! They're the first in the group to have a baby so everyone is really excited.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Concealer

If you've read any of my previous posts you know that I have fair skin, it's just fair enough that many foundations and concealers look a bit orange on me especially from the drugstore. Every once in a while I'll all of a sudden just want to try a ton of different concealers and this was a lucky purchase when I was on one of those missions.

This is a cream product that comes with a tube and has a doe foot applicator. Now I wish I could say that this has a great shade range but it doesn't and that is the biggest problem for me. It is absolutely great for those with lighter skin tone but from what I've seen online and in the stores in my area, those with darker tones will have difficulty even finding a shade even close to their skin tone. I usually only see a handful of shades with the darkest being a medium/beige tone, there may be more than that but those few are all I've come across.

For my experiences with this concealer, I will honestly say that I love this for so many reasons. The first is because it does match my skin (I know I've repeated this multiple time already but it's just so difficult to find something that is right!) for those fair skinned ladies I recommend you check this one out. The next is that it provides great coverage. If I have any redness, it looks really red, this covers it very well. It's great because you can apply multiple layers without it looking cakey, especially if you don't apply powder in between the layers. I have found that after you apply the first layer, let it dry for a minute and apply the second you can get great coverage with out the multiple layers of powder and concealer, which just makes the blemish even more or just as noticeable as it was before.

Another big thing is that this lasts on my skin, it doesn't break down or fade as long as I'm not constantly touching my skin. This will even last on me through a medium intensity workout or a decent run. If I'm not doing anything it lasts all day if it's set with a little bit of powder.

The only difficulty with this is that it looks terrible over any rough or dry patches. It sinks right in there and makes the skin look cracked and just bad. So I try to use a good scrub and a thicker moisturizer when I do have those patches.

Revlon ColorStay Pencil Eyeliner in Black

I'm a person who is constantly wearing blank liner on both my waterline and lash line almost every single day. I have the fair skin with the pale blonde lashes and I just feel like everything blends in together with no natural definition to my eyes so the black gives me a more of a contrast and definitely separates my eyes and makes them stand out.

The Revlon ColorStay liner in Black would be a "middle-of-the-pack" to one of the better drugstore liners that I've tried. This product is one of the twist up/self-sharpening pencils, although there is a itty-bitty sharpener hidden in the end in case you want a thinner line. The actual product is a standard black with no shimmer, sparkle, or glitter in it and has a matte finish.

There are two different areas I apply this liner, on my waterline and directly onto my lid above my lash line, and I have noticed that it performs in two very different ways but there are some similarities. The first is that the product isn't the most pigmented although the color is build-able (usually takes three to four layers for me to be happy) which is something that I can work with but I prefer a liner that looks the way I want it to in one to two swipes. On a more positive note, this liner doesn't pull or tug at my lid and glides on fairly smooth.

Now for when I wear this on my waterline, which is what I do the most often, is takes three to four layers for a darker intensity in color. As for long lasting, it will go for about 5-6 hours before smudging slightly under my lower lashes and then travels quite a bit to the inner corners of my eyes. Now when I go to remove it, it comes of easily with soap or eye makeup remover, which ever you prefer.

When I apply it onto my lid or just above my upper lashes it works 10 times better. It will last well through an 8 hour work day and into the evening without smudging or transferring elsewhere your lid. For removal though it's much tougher, soap by itself doesn't remove quite everything and I've had to do a bit of rubbing even with the makeup remove to get it off.

It's very possible but it would take me a while before I do just because there are so many different drugstore liners to choose from.

Not too shabby! I would recommend to others to try especially if you're looking for a drugstore option for longer wearing liners. Now I just need to try all the other color options it comes in.

A Haul from The Body Shop

I was perusing the online sites for some of my favorite stores and happened upon a 40% sale at The Body Shop. Obviously I couldn't say no since I love their products but never end up purchasing them because of the price.

The first scent I went after was the Chocomania and right away throw a body butter and lip butter into my bag. I truly love this scent, it's not a sugary chocolate but has more of a buttery rich tone to it that makes me want to eat it but it's overwhelmingly chocolate.

Next after looking around the site a bit more I also got the Chocomania Shower Cream. It definitely has the look of being moisturizing so I can hope that it is. I have never tried their shower creams or gels so I'm pretty exited to in the next week or so.

Next up, I was all over the Strawberry scent! They were already sold out of the regular sized body butters so I settled with two small sized (each are 50 ml of product instead of 200 ml) and I also picked up the Strawberry Shower Gel. I have never owned any of the cosmetics from The Body Shop other than the lip butters (I personally don't consider them to be cosmetics) so I picked up my usually first product for trying out a new brand, lipgloss, also strawberry scented.

I feel like even my nose is smiling.

Last but not least I got two more products. The first is the Almond Hand and Nail Cream. I have the Rose Hand Cream and really like it and since this was only $10 I figured why not. Finally the last product I got is the Satsuma Body Butter in the big tub (400ml) and this was actually cheaper than the regular sized tub but I found it in the clearance section which I was so excited about!

I am really contemplating getting actually cosmetics from there like face powders or eye shadows, so if you guys have any personal favorites let me know so I can check them out!
