The HAF 912 embodies the rugged aesthetic and qualities of its brethren while remaining attractively priced. Its traits more closely resemble that of a mid to high-end case than that of other cases in its price range. The HAF 912 pays tribute to the legacy of HAF 932 & HAF 922 in ease of installation, high airflow, and compatibility with water cooling hardware

Boost your computer’s performance

PC not been wipe for yaers?… then one of the easiest ways to speed up your PC is to simply reformat it. Of course, you want to backup your data, but it is the best way to get your computer back to peak performance.

1. Defragment your computer hard disk using free tools like SmartDefrag.

2. Enable Write Caching for Storage Devices

3. Defrag Pagefile and Registry

4. Clean up hard drive disk space
treesize
ccleaner

5. Managing Startup Programs
A lot of the startup programs are useless and can be turned off. Use the MSCONFIG

Get everything you possibly can out of the Notification Area (by the time in the lower right hand of the screen) The best way to do this is in the applications options. If that fails, use Autoruns. Navigate to and open the Autoruns. folder, double-click autoruns.exe. Click on the Logon tab, Uncheck anything you do not want to start with Windows 7. The fewer things the better. If you don’t know what it is, leave it alone. Advanced users may want to go to the SERVICES tab and make modifications there.

You can also use startdelay

Startup Delayer gives you the power to optimize your Startup Process by delaying applications from starting up as soon as you log into your computer.
By delaying the applications during start up, your computer becomes usable a lot faster. Startup Delayer will then start launching your delayed applications when your computer is more idle.

6. Configuring the Paging File Virtual memory Settings
To change the virtual memory settings, go to Start, Control Panel and click on System. Click on the Advanced tab and under the Performance box, click Settings.
On the Performance dialog, click the Advanced tab and then click Change under the Virtual Memory

By default, Windows uses the boot partition (the partition that contains your operating system files) and it is recommended to set the size to 1.5 times the amount of RAM that you have.
Option: Move the “Page File” to be on a Separate Hard Disk Partition

7. Disable Visual Effects
If you don’t care about visual effects in Windows, you can turn them off by going to Performance Options.

8.Set Unused Services to Manual

Services use processes that run in the background using part of your computer’s resources. Check through your services with the help of the guide provided in this link, and stop and set to manual the services that affects features that you do not use or need to gain a tiny bit more performance.

WARNING: Disabling the wrong service could hurt performance, or even cripple Windows 7. If you do not truly know what you are doing, then it’s not recommended to do this.

blackviper.com

For a more advanced tool, check out SrvMan.

9. Turn Off Unneeded Windows Features
example:
uncheck Windows Gadget Platform

10. Speed Up Shut Down Time
This will allow you how to set the Wait to Kill time Windows 7 waits for programs to save data and close before shutting down.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

WaitToKillServiceTimeout and click on Modify

Type in a number between 2000-20000 (2-20 seconds) and click on OK.
NOTE: The default time is 12000.

11. Uninstall the Bloatware Programs from Your Computer
Most computers that you buy, at a retail store, have a ton of software installed on it. Some of these can take up a lot of resources. Uninstall the programs that you do not want to use from Programs and Features.

pcdecrapifier.com
Use Revo Uninstaller to Remove Stubborn Programs

12. optimize the Windows boot time

Windows Performance Analysis Tools

13 . Speed up your Internet browsing by changing DNS server, such as OpenDNS.

14. Speed up Mozilla Firefox by tweaking the configuration settings.
You can use these free addons:
fasterfox
tweak network

Tweaking Tools

What is KeePass?
Today you need to remember many passwords. You need a password for the Windows network logon, your e-mail account, your website’s FTP password, online passwords (like website member account), etc. etc. etc. The list is endless. Also, you should use different passwords for each account. Because if you use only one password everywhere and someone gets this password you have a problem… A serious problem. The thief would have access to your e-mail account, website, etc. Unimaginable.

KeePass is a free open source password manager, which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key file. So you only have to remember one single master password or select the key file to unlock the whole database. The databases are encrypted using the best and most secure encryption algorithms currently known (AES and Twofish). For more information,

In this show we talk about Malware and Vulnerabilities Exploits, This is just one of many malware related shows that we will be covering over the coming months.

Malware and Vulnerabilities Exploits

Rogues are scams that you should really be aware of. Such malicious software is usually referred to as rogue anti-virus program that pretends to scan your computer for viruses and malware. As you may guess it reports a bunch of non-existent infections and urges you to take necessary steps to remove your allegedly infected computer. In other words, fake rogues attempt to lure you into participating in fraudulent transactions. Needless to say, you shouldn’t purchase these rogues anti-virus programs.

How can I know if my computer is infected? 10 signs of infection

Users are often advised to use an antivirus to check if their systems are infected, but with the current cyber-crime scenario, this is simply not enough.

Frequently, it takes a least a basic grasp of security issues to work out if a computer is infected, and many first-time users have little or no idea. While many of today’s threats are designed specifically to go undetected, there are still some tell-tale signs that a system has been compromised.

PandaLabs has produced a simple guide to the 10 most common symptoms of infection, to help all users find out if their systems are at risk:

1. My computer speaks to me. There are all types of pop-ups and messages on the desktop either advertising things, saying that the PC is infected and needs protection… This is a typical, surefire case of an infection. There is either spyware on the computer, or it has been infected by a fake antivirus (also called “rogueware”).

2. My computer is running extremely slowly. This could be a symptom of many things, including infection by a virus. If it has been infected by a virus, worm or Trojan, among other things, which are running on the computer, they could be running tasks that consume a lot of resources, making the system run more slowly than usual.

3. Applications won’t start. How many times have you tried to run an application from the start menu or desktop and nothing happens? Sometimes another program might even run. As in the previous case, this could be another type of problem, but at the very least it’s a symptom that tells you that something is wrong.

4. I cannot connect to the Internet or it runs very slowly. Loss of Internet communication is another common symptom of infection, although it could also be due to a problem with your service provider or router. You might also have a connection that runs much more slowly than usual. If you have been infected, the malware could be connecting to a URL or opening separate connection sessions, thereby reducing your available bandwidth or making it practically impossible to use the Internet.

5. When I connect to the Internet, all types of windows open or the browser displays pages I have not requested. This is another certain sign of infection. Many threats are designed to redirect traffic to certain websites against the user’s will, and can even spoof Web pages, making you think you are on a legitimate site when really you have been taken to a malicious imitation.

6. Where have my files gone? Hopefully nobody will be asking this type of question, although there are still some threats around designed to delete or encrypt information, to move documents from one place to another- If you find yourself in this situation, you really ought to start worrying.

7. My antivirus has disappeared, my firewall is disabled. Another typical characteristic of many threats is that they disable security systems installed on computers. Perhaps if one thing shuts down it might just be a specific software failure; but if all your security components are disabled, you are almost certainly infected.

8.My computer is speaking a strange language. If the language of certain applications changes, the screen appears back-to-front, strange insects start ‘eating’ the desktop… you might just have an infected system.

9. Library files for running games, programs, etc. have disappeared from my computer. Once again, this could be a sign of infection, although it could also be down to incomplete or incorrect installation of programs.

10. My computer has gone mad… literally. If the computer starts acting on its own, you suddenly find your system has been sending emails without your knowledge, Internet sessions or applications open sporadically on their own – your system could be compromised by malware.

In this show we talk about Prerequisite for the transition from home users into Business Work, These just some ideas and ways that we work for you and your business.

Service Level Agreements

• Drawing up an SLA

Basic SLAs set out:

• The service your be providing?
• The standards of service you provide?
• Map out the responsibilities of the supplier and customer?
• Provisions for legal and regulatory compliance?
• Performance and response time?
• Fault correction time?
• Confidentiality?
• Non-disclosure provisions?
• Payment terms?
• Termination conditions

1. Design the SLA so that it clearly defines the service provider’s responsibilities.
2. Identify service levels that your infrastructure needs so the SLA is comprehensive.
3. Negotiate the SLA with the service provider, paying particular attention to what services are being guaranteed, how they will be measured, the process for realizing agreed-upon remedies, and the amount of time the service provider has to correct problems.

We talk about all this below and much much more in this weeks show.

In this show we talk about how to grow your business, These just some ideas and ways that we work for you and your business, there is no wrong or right way just ideas to share we you.

Growing your business empire

• Setup a Marketing Plan
• Identify your short term goals & your long-term goals.
• Where you are now? and where you’re going to be?

6 Steps to Creating Achievable Goals:
With every goal you must follow the 6 P’s:
Prioritize: You may have several goals. Prioritize them on your list.

Positive: Use positive language. “I will …“, “I’ll be…“, “I’ll have…”

Precise: Be precise. “I will have supper with my family three nights a week” rather than “I will be home earlier”

Performance: Measure your performance. Set time for starting and completing your goal. “May 1 – I will be home at 5:30 three nights this week”

Practical: Make your goals practical. Do you have the control to make this work or do you rely on other people to meet your goal?

Personal: Is this goal a personal goal or someone else’s desire for you?
Time management is easier when you can motivate yourself and judge the value of your time. If your goals are based on someone else’s desires (if your mate wants you to work in a steady job but you want to be self-employed) you will find it difficult to manage your time due to lack of motivation.

• Know your competitors. (What’s the best way to take advantage of the differences between you and your competitors?)
• Deciding whether to grow your business – you will reach a stage where you need to decide whether to grow. This is an important decision because business growth has both advantages and disadvantages.
• how well is your business is currently performing?
• How a SWOT analysis can help
To make sure that you go for the right sort of growth, at the right time, you need to work out how your business is currently performing. There are a number of ways to do this and one way is to perform a SWOT analysis.

SWOT stands for:

• Strengths
• Weaknesses
• Opportunities
• Threats

FREE SWOT Analysis Template

• Know what type of advertising is best for you.
• Create a Plan of Action
• Develop an e-marketing plan
• Define Your Advertising Budget
• Assess your business’ performance
• YouTube Promoted Videos

All this and much much more on this weeks show.

We talk about all this below and much much more in this weeks show.

In this show we talk about computer software, hardware and firmware updates, most people put it on there to do list that never gets done…yet it’s a real important part for you as a computer user and your computer security, without keeping software up to date you’re a big security risk. it’s the type of topic that don’t get talked about much but its very important part of computing today.
Important: neglecting critical software update is the last thing that should be placed on the back burner. your be leaving yourself and network wide open to hacker and cybercriminals.

The Importance of Computer Software Updating

1. It is really important everyday applications such as Adobe PDF Reader, QuickTime, Adobe Flash player and Microsoft Office are updated regularly, these are prime candidates for exploitation by hackers and malware if left un-patched.
2. Check the status of Flash Player version
Check the status

3. Personal Software Inspector (PSI)
Patching insecure programs helps safeguard your data and PC against cybercriminals. Secunia PSI is a security scanner which identifies programs that are insecure and need updates. It even automates the updating of many of these programs, making it a lot easier to maintain a secure PC.
secunia.com

What are Microsoft Updates?

Microsoft Update is a service that allows for the periodic patching of system files to address known issues with Microsoft products.

• Security Updates – These updates patch security vulnerabilities that could allow a system to become compromised.
• Critical Updates – Critical Updates fix any major issue that is found in Microsoft products.
• Software Updates – Non-critical issues, such as minor bugs, are addressed using Software Updates.
• Service Packs – Service Packs contain a collection of all patches to date for a specific piece of software or operating system and usually have additional feature changes.

Importance of Security Software Updating.

• Instant messenger, web browsers ie: Firefox, Internet Explorer. these are a big risk to the network if left without regular security updates. (should be a top priority).
• Antivirus software. Keep these updated with the latest definitions. DO NOT turn them off because it slows the system down.
• Firewall Cybercriminals are endlessly inventive in their efforts to exploit vulnerabilities in software, and many software companies work tirelessly to combat these threats. That is why you should: Regularly install updates for all your software

Microsoft Computer Security, Digital Privacy, and Online Safety

Microsoft Safety & Security Centre

Steve Gibson

ShieldsUP!

Risks

Browser hijack software can be hidden in a plugin, codec, freeware, shareware, or browser toolbars. These can be installed along with other malware infections. Other browser hijacks end up on your system by exploiting browser vulnerabilities or vulnerabilities in specific add-ons.

Codec Packs Are Bad – Beware Fake Codecs – it could be a trojan

These are codec packages that I would not recommended.
•	K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
•	K-lite Codec Pack
•	Vista Codec Pack
•	XP Codec Pack
• 7 Codec Pack
• Divx Code Pack

A good alternative to these Codec Packs is VLC player
VLC player

Gspot tells you what codec is needed just drag and drop file into Gspot
gspot

Gadgets

X-mini II Capsule iPod/MP3 Speaker (2nd Generation)
X-mini II Review

News

Pirate Bay vows to go underground over blocking threat
The Pirate Bay plans new evasion tactics
File-sharing site The Pirate Bay has said that it will adapt rather than die as it faces legal blocks in the UK.
On Monday the High Court ruled that the site facilitates copyright infringement.
It will decide in June whether ISPs must block UK customers from accessing the site.
In response, The Pirate Bay said it would use other methods for distributing content which would make it harder for its “enemies” to track.

In this show we talk about Banking Security and Safety – Avoid Identity Theft – Online Security Tips.

Help to avoid becoming victims of a computer virus, & cybercrime

• Install high-quality Internet security software.
• Update Windows regularly for critical security updates
• Update your Browser regularly
• Web page addresses can be disguised or take you to an unexpected site.
• Be suspicious of unexpected attachments, even from legitimate acquaintances.
• Avoid questionable Web sites. – use program like WOT
• Only download software from sites you trust. Carefully evaluate free software and file-sharing applications before downloading them.
• Update your operating system regularly. – This is crucial to block security holes in your O/S
• Increase your browser security settings. – Do this by adding Ad-block plus, No-Script, HTTPS Everywhere: your browser automatically goes for the HTTPS/SSL connection option, or uses TOR’s resources to encrypted it. Lastpass Password manager, Dr Web Link Checker, Virual Threat Level, Better Privacy

Security Firefox Plug-ins

•	Type in a trusted URL for a company’s site into the address bar of your browser to bypass links in an email or instant message.
•	Do not click on emails or web links from unfamiliar senders with unbeatable offers that seem too good to be true
•	Make sure you make use of updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer and make regular back-ups of your data

How do you know if there is spyware on your computer?

The following symptoms may indicate that spyware is installed on your computer:
•	you are subjected to endless pop-up windows
•	you are redirected to web sites other than the one you typed into your browser
•	new, unexpected toolbars appear in your web browser
•	new, unexpected icons appear in the task tray at the bottom of your screen
•	your browser’s home page suddenly changed
•	the search engine your browser opens when you click “search” has been changed
•	certain keys fail to work in your browser (e.g., the tab key doesn’t work when you are moving to the next field within a form)
•	random Windows error messages begin to appear
•	your computer suddenly seems very slow when opening programs or processing tasks (saving files, etc.) high CPU usage, computer keeps freezing up, blue screens.

Zeus attacks browsers using the ‘man-in-the-browser’ method and there is an argument that the only way of protecting against it is to site protection within that environment.

Online Protection Tips

Layered Security

•	1. Antivirus 1. Antimalware Pro 1. Firewall 1. On Demand Scanner 1 (or as many as you like)

Secure Your Web Browser

Securing Browser

• Increase your browser security settings. – Do this by adding Ad-block plus, No-Script, HTTPS Everywhere: your browser automatically goes for the HTTPS/SSL connection option, or uses TOR’s resources to encrypted it. Lastpass Password manager, Dr Web Link Checker, Virual Threat Level, Better Privacy

Security Firefox Plug-ins

Trusteer’s Rapport browser plug-in (which is free)
must watch Trusteer’s Rapport browser plug-in

In this show we talk about back up solutions for your business or home computers.

Backup Backup Backup

Common Computer Data Backup Mistakes

1. Not having a computer data backup device to begin with.

2. Not verifying the accuracy of your system backup periodically.

3. Only backing up part of your important computer data.

4. Not understanding the limitations of your computer data backup system.
ie: low bandwidth (slow) Internet connection

5. Not being consistent with a computer backup plan and schedule.
ie: I only need to back up my data once a month or when I get around to it

6. Not choosing the right tool for the right job.

Options to backup

1. Dropbox Online Data Storage
2. external backup hard disk drive 3.5″ or 2.5″
3. Flash memory drives – easy to lose
4. DVD Disks – very small amount of data and get lost or damaged easy.
5. Nas drive -
6. online data backup service – low bandwidth (slow) Internet connection the amount of data that could be transferred over their Internet connection, it could also have limited MB per day that you can upload.
7. Tape back up – A tape back up can hold lots of information. This type of back up medium can be slow to use and be costly for an average computer user.

“Data Loss, It Won’t Happen To Me”
When it comes to data loss some people are eternally optimistic and believe “it will never happen to me.” Right up until they hear the pronounced clicking sounds coming from their hard drive alerting them to the fact that the drive has suffered a serious mechanical failure

What is a Computer Back Up?
A computer back up is essentially a copy of the information on your computer. The copy can be a full back up, an incremental back up, a differential back up or a
selective back up.

Types of Computer Back Up
As mentioned above there are different types of computer back up. Each will require a different amount of time to perform and may require a different type of back up medium.

Full Back Up
A full back up, as the name implies, is a back up of everything on the computer. The operating system, your settings, the software installed and your files are all backed up (copied) to another medium.
The full back up will take a long time to perfom (depending on the amount of information on the computer) and require the largest amount of back up medium.

Incremental Back Up
An incremental computer back up will back up only the files that have changed since the last back up was performed. The time to perform this type of computer back up and the amount of back up medium required will depend on how much has changed since the last back up.

Differential Back Up
A differential back up also backs up only the files that have changed but it keeps all the changes since the last full back up.
The differential back up time and storage requirements will also vary on the amount of changes since the last full back up. Seeing each change is added to the back up copy, the amount of back up storage required grows as time progresses.

Selective Back Up
With a selective computer back up, you select specific files and/or folders on the computer to be backed up.

Backup Software

6. Repair broken links as soon as they’re noticed. and do regular maintenance with regular updates.

7. Use a site map (a text document that links to every page on the site) and submit it to Google.

Here is some brief notes of what we talk about on this show.

Computer Repair Shop

1. Staffing: if on your own and you have service call who mans the shop?

2. Call answering service.

2a Virtual Receptionist £0.99 Per Call.

2b call redirecting mobile.
davincivirtual.co.uk

3. Sale or Return on expensive stock.

4. Vans, Fuel, Insurance, Liability Insurance, Tax.

5. Racking, Benches, Tools, Decor.

6. Walk in trade.

7. Be prepared for quite periods and have money set aside for those days.

8. Know your competition.

9. Pricing structure to suit your area and competitors.

10. Run a small survey to see what the local area need, and then supply it.

11. Who is your ideal customer? who are you trying to target?

12. Market your business. No one knows your there unless you tell them.

13. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses. You might have a very strong technical background but are not very business savvy. In order to succeed, you need to have a good balance of business, technical and also strong social skills, so you can best respond to the needs of your clients and build long-term relationships with them. Make sure you take the time to go outside your comfort zone and work on honing skills that come less readily to you than others.

Computer Repair from Home

1. It’s not always a disadvantage.

2. When’s the right time to expand?

3. Things to take into account before getting a shop.

Insurance, security, electricity, Rent, Rates, Water Rates, Advertising ie: signs,

4. Even if you work from home always keep in professional. ie: quote, invoice, keep them informed. keep books up to date, keep client database, contact them on regular basis.

And we cover much more in the show, so why not check it out.

English councils get deadline for broadband plan cash

English councils wanting to roll out high-speed internet links have been given until February to apply for government cash.
£530m has been set aside to push “superfast” broadband to the UK’s countryside by the end of 2015.
Telecoms regulator Ofcom has defined “superfast” broadband as speeds greater than 24Mbps.
Countryside campaigners said the deadline would add momentum to the rollout.
The government scheme is designed to help telecoms companies provide broadband in areas they might otherwise claim it would not be economically viable to be offered.
The government wants 90% of homes and businesses to have access to “superfast” broadband by 2015

Important: show examples of your gaming machines with some pre made specs and prices to help clench the deal.
Important: What’s there budget.
Important: Give them a quote to agree on.
Very Important: Always take a big deposit example 50% with a terms & agreement with a cooling off period.
Alsowith the understanding that if they cancel once its built and its passed the dead line you keep the deposit.
Important: make a list of what they need and ask lots questions ie; do they need USB and audio jack at front of case, case window, led lights etc etc.

Questions you may want to ask the customer before you build.
1. Do you plan on overclocking your computer?

2. Do or Can they want to use any of the parts from my old computer?
This depends on your situation; if your computer is more than four years old, chances are that most of the parts will be too old, slow or incompatible for your new machine. On the other hand, if you are upgrading from a fairly new machine, you may be able to use many of the parts. All of this assumes the old computer will no longer be used. If you, or someone else, is going to continue using your old computer, it’s probably best just to leave it intact.

3. What will be the main function of the computer?
•	Video editing
•	Entertainment system/media center
•	Gaming system
We’re not talking here about the occasional game of solitaire We’re talking about cutting edge 3D gaming – first-person shooters or real-time strategy games. That uses “anisotropic filtering” and anti-aliasing and mip-mapped specular reflections and a lot of other confusing terminology describing visual effects, These can use a lot of resources on the system.

•Office computer
An office computer can be expected to do word processing, spreadsheet and database work, network access, e-mail and a little light development of spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.

•Simple web surfer
To provide basic functionality to a user who just needs web surfing, a little word processing, and the occasional game of solitaire.

4.What will affect the choice of any part/peripheral?

•Compatibility
You’ll want to make sure that all the parts you buy work together without problems. The CPU, the motherboard, and the RAM in particular must be compatible with each other. Again, you’ll also want to make sure that your operating system supports the hardware & Software they have or want.

•Form factor
Form factor is the specification that provides the physical measurements for the size of components and where mounting devices for them are located.
•	EATX or Extended ATX boards are 12″x13″. This format is almost exclusive to workstation computers.
•	ATX is the most common form factor and is the de facto standard. In this form factor the motherboard is (usually) vertically mounted for more space and more efficient cooling than some other standards.
•	microATX, or µATX, is smaller than standard ATX, but at the cost of fewer expansion slots. Many cases that support ATX also allow micro-ATX.

Power rating
The power supply you choose needs to supply enough DC current to run your components. Beyond that it needs to supply stable, accurate voltages, i.e. the 12 volt rail needs to supply 12 volts (within normal tolerances of 10% or so) steadily under any foreseeable load, likewise the 3 and 5v rails at their respective voltages. Cheap power supplies tend to fall down in these areas.
•	There are several calculators that try to help you select an adequate PSU for your system
•	Do they need SLI (NVIDIA) or Crossfire (ATI) mode
•	Get a branded make ie: corsair, thermaltake, Antec, cheaper but good option is cooler master and don’t penny pinch on quality and power.
Fans
Fans currently come in two basic sizes, 80mm and 120mm. but more higher end sizes are 92mm 140mm & 200mm Cases. and there is a difference in quality and the quietness of the fan and the yield of air flow you can also mount in a push-pull configuration (one fan pulls cool outside air in, the other pushes hot interior air out).

Heat Sinks
You got stock heat sinks & custom heat sinks these come in all shape and sizes and some are massive so take this into account.
Compound is very important part of the cooling process.

USB
USB 2.0 or USB 3.0
USB 3 ports are now available on some motherboards and they are even faster than 2.0 (up to 5Gbps). Although there are not many devices available yet that support the USB 3.0 standard,

Cache
The cache of a Hard drive is a faster media than the hard drive itself, which is normally 2MB (in low-end), 8MB (standard), or 16MB (large disks only). 32MB & 64MB The existence of a cache increases the speeds of retrieving short bursts of information, and also allows pre-fetching of data. Larger cache sizes generally result in faster data access.

Rotational Speed
The speed at which the hard drives platters spin. Most laptop (2.5 inch) drives spin at 5400 RPM, while common desktop drives come in at 7200. There are PATA and SATA drives that spin at 10,000 RPM and some SCSI drives hit 15,000. However drives above 7,200 RPM usually have limited capacity, and a much higher price than comparable 7,200RPM drives, making such drives advisable only when the fastest possible speeds are required.

News
HTML 5 new target for cybercriminals
An increasingly popular web language will be the next big target for cybercriminals, according to a security firm.
HTML 5 is being developed to improve the look of websites, remove the need for plug-ins such as Java and Flash, and bring the storage capacity of the cloud to the browser.
It is still in development but some applications already support it.
Because it is new, it is attractive to cybercriminals, said Sophos.

6. Always keep the customer in the loop of what’s happening with the job
7. keep to the price you agreed unless you’re buying more parts. (as long as it’s not your thought)
8. Miss diagnosis is a big no no don’t make the customer pay for your mistakes.
9. Pricing is always a tuff call, set out your pricing and stick to it. don’t be bullied into lowering your prices (it is what it is)
10. Make sure you have necessary business paperwork in place ie: invoice, estimate, legal docs, database for your customers etc etc and use it for a more professional approach.
11. know your limitations. ie: Knowledge, Time Management, Staffing etc etc
12.Is the job to big? don’t be too hasty in letting it go, it could be your big chance to seal a maintenance contact, use temp staff who are qualified to help you do the job. Even if you’re not making much after hiring a temp, it’s good for your business reputation.
13. Only use branded parts you make less profit but it makes good business sense to use better parts.

Business Approach:

1. Pricing is always more for business repairs
2. Payment is not always immediate, it could take 30 days and you may need to chase payments up
3. Make sure you have all your Business Forms & Templates in place and use them.
4. Good organization and time management are essential when dealing with business work.
5. Contract work takes preference over home users, so make sure you can handle the work load.
6. Keep up to date on your book keeping and records on a daily basis.
7. Planning and mapping out your day is key in running a business.
8. It’s good to have good Hardware & Software supplies in place and always keep some general supplies in stock
9. Business insurance is very important when doing any time of work for businesses
10. Have the right tools to do the job, it’s not the same as home users and the approach is different. ie you can’t just reformat machines.
11. Never use pirate or cracks in any circumstances for home or business users.
12. Remember your business name is everything, once it’s bad it’s bad for good.
13. Make sure you have clearance before attempting any major changes to the network or workstations.
14. Know your limitations. ie: Knowledge, Time Management, Staffing etc etc
