The Last One...

Starting February 1st, 2026 TheTechGame will be no longer. I (kim) didn't get to make a goodbye post on the sunsetting thread therefore this is my final goodbye for when the site goes down.

I took over the news threads a few months ago as I used to use the site for JUST gaming news when I was inactive. I had fun doing the little bit of news posts I made while Sean stepped away to keep the home page looking active, but nonetheless all good things must come to an end..

If you haven't seen, this site is closing down on January 31st, 12:00am EST (presumably) and a goodbye/sunsetting thread can be found here:

https://www.thetechgame.com/Forums/t=7842769/updated-sunsetting-thetechgamecom.html

I've made tons of amazing friends here that created so many more memories. this site totally changed the direction in my life and almost always it was for the better. if you've ever communicated with me, had an interaction, or even just got a free lobby off me, thank you. These memories will stay with me till I sunset. o7 gamers and god speed.

See Ya' Later Space Cowboy~

Nintendo Switch 2 faces a price increase in 2026

Nintendo will increase the Switch 2 price globally at some point this year, a research firm has predicted.

In a report detailing its 10 predictions for 2026, video game business intelligence and consumer insight firm Niko Partners says it believes a global price hike for Switch 2 will take place at some point in 2026.

“The Nintendo Switch 2 is competitively priced compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, after the latter consoles witnessed price hikes last year,” the report reads.

“But we believe the Switch 2 is set to follow in Sony and Microsoft’s footsteps with its own price hike driven by the impact from tariffs, increased memory costs, and broader macroeconomic conditions.

“Nintendo chose to maintain its $449 entry price last year despite the introduction of tariffs impacting production in China, Japan and Vietnam. More recently, increased demand for AI data centers has pushed RAM and storage prices up.

“While we do anticipate Nintendo to increase the price of the Switch 2, they may opt to discontinue the $449 SKU and only sell a $499 or higher bundle SKU instead.”

Last week Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company is keeping a close eye on Switch 2’s profit margin as the increase in memory prices and ongoing tariffs remain an ongoing issue in the industry.

“We procure [RAM] from suppliers based on our medium- to long-term business plans, but the current memory market is very volatile,” he told Kyoto Shimbun (via machine translation). “There is no immediate impact on earnings, but it is something we must monitor closely.”

When asked if this could lead to Nintendo increasing its prices depending on its future procurement costs, Furukawa said that was hypothetical and he couldn’t comment.

Life is Strange: Reunion officially announced

Square Enix has officially announced Life is Strange: Reunion, the latest entry in the Life is Strange series.

Reunion, which is developed by Deck Nine – the studio previously responsible for Life is Strange titles Before the Storm, True Colors and Double Exposure – will be the final instalment of the Max and Chloe saga.

While the first Life is Strange game focused on protagonist Max Caulfield and her relationship with her childhood friend Chloe Price, not every game in the series continued their story – Life is Strange 2 and Life is Strange: True Colors focused on entirely different protagonists.

However, Reunion – which will be released on March 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC – promises to not only focus once again on Max and Chloe, but bring their storyline to a conclusion.

“Players will once again visit Caledon University, where Max Caulfield works as a photography teacher,” Square Enix‘s synopsis of the plot reads. “Returning from a weekend away, Max finds her beloved Caledon ablaze, as a raging inferno destroys the hallowed grounds and ends the lives of Max’s friends, students and faculty alike.

“Max only escapes the devastation due to her rewind power – returning from the original Life is Strange – a supernatural ability that lets her reverse time. Jumping back in time through a selfie, Max now has just three days to work out how the fire began. Can she make the most of her second chance to prevent this fiery disaster?

“That’s when Chloe Price arrives at Caledon, much to Max’s surprise: a shocking repercussion of Max’s merging of the timelines at the end of Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Haunted by nightmares of a past she never lived, and with her grip on reality unravelling, Chloe needs Max’s help.”

In a post clarifying the future of the game, following the October announcement that Amazon is moving away from MMO development and ending service on New World, it’s now been confirmed that the game will go offline permanently on January 31, 2027.

At the time of publication, the game had already been pulled from Steam and the Xbox store. Beginning July 20, 2026, players will no longer be able to purchase in-game currency, Amazon said.

Those who have previously purchased New World: Aeternum will be able to download and install the game again if they choose, but it will no longer be playable as of February next year.

“A few months ago, we shared with you, our valued community, that no additional content would come to New World: Aeternum after the Nighthaven seasonal update,” an update from Amazon Games reads.

“We also said more details on what’s happening next, alongside other essential information, would soon follow. Today, we’re here to share updates and provide transparency on where the game goes from here.

President Macron Praises GOTY Winners Whose Indie Awards Title Revoked

French President, Emmanuel Macron, recently made the news for reasons other than his collapsing government. After Sandfall Interactive won the 2025 Game of the Year Award for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, President Macron was quick to congratulate the French game developers on their recent success. The move was unexpected, not only because it is not often that leaders of nations keep track of gaming news, but also given the political mess that Macron has found himself in over the past two years.

Yet this was not the only surprise of the night, Sandfall Interactives success was also unexpected. Since their formation in 2020, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the only game that the studio has ever developed, and they certainly set the bar high. Incredibly, the title won of the 13 awards that they were nominated for. In light of the studios unprecedented success, President Macron took to Instagram to lavish praise on Sandfall Interactive, describing their game as a "historic first for a French title", "a great pride for Montpellier and for France" and "a shining example of French audacity and creativity".

The Elder Scrolls VI In Playable State

While a release date is still a thing of dreams, The Elder Scrolls VI is now reportedly in a playable state in its development. It has been over fourteen years since the previous installment in the Elder Scrolls series was released, Skyrim, and fans are still waiting tirelessly for any news of the games title, where it will be set or when it might come out. While the game has been confirmed by Bethesda on multiple occasions, for many fans it still feels like it will never be released. Therefore, it is great news to hear that the development process is moving behind the scenes and tangible results are reportedly emerging.

A group of Bethesda developers recently spoke exclusively to GameInformer and revealed information regarding the current state of development of the long awaited game. Todd Howard, head of Bethesda, stated that The Elder Scrolls VI is "progressing really well. The majority of the studio's on VI, but I'll say this: We always overlap. So, we're very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it's a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster - or a lot faster - but it's a process that we want to get right."

DICE Acts to Maintain Realism in Battlefield 6

Without any public announcement, it appears that DICE has removed the Wicked Grin skin from Battlefield 6. The skin was recently at the centre of controversy as fans of the franchise collectively complained of the skin breaking from the aesthetics of the game. It seems that DICE has listened and withdrawn the cosmetic to please their player base.

In today's industry, it is increasingly rare that game developers actively listen to and respond to their fans. It's encouraging to see that, in some situations, fans can collectively impact the development of their favourite games. The lack of immersion in games like Call of Duty is a major reason why fans flock to the more realistic locations and combat that Battlefield games offer. Attempts to further monetize the game by breaking from the franchises grounded aesthetic was never likely to go down well with fans. It's surprising that DICE looked to go down this route, but it's a good sign that they have listened and responded in this way.

Call of Duty will no longer release back-to-back games

The studios behind the Call of Duty games have pledged to change their release strategy going forward, acknowledging that not every player is happy with the current state of the series.

A message posted on the series’ official website and signed by “the Call of Duty team” addressed some players’ claims that the latest release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, wasn’t up to the series’ previous standards.

“Call of Duty has enjoyed long-standing success because of all of you, a passionate community that demands excellence and deserves nothing less, the message read. “We also know that for some of you, the franchise has not met your expectations fully.

“To be very clear, we know what you expect and rest assured we will deliver, and overdeliver, on those expectations as we move forward.”

As part of this plan, the team has announced that it will be changing its strategy going forward, declaring: “We will no longer do back-to-back releases of Modern Warfare or Black Ops games. The reasons are many, but the main one is to ensure we provide an absolutely unique experience each and every year.

“We will drive innovation that is meaningful, not incremental. While we aren’t sharing those plans today, we look forward to doing so when the time is right.”

Seven out of the last eight main annual Call of Duty games have been either Black Ops or Modern Warfare titles, with the only exception being 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was released last month and currently sits on a Metacritic score of 66 on console and 67 on PC. Only 2022’s Modern Warfare 3 has scored lower in the main series’ history.
