In 2002, François Gissy made a world record by reaching a top speed of 150.74 mph or 242.6 kmph riding on a rocket-powered bicycle. And by reaching a top speed of 163 mph or 263 kmph, Gissy beat his old record and set a new world record. He rode the bicycle at an abandoned runway located in Munchhouse, Haut-Rhin department, Alsace, France. Swiss company Exotic Thermo Engineering made the rocket named “ecological monopropellant motor” according to Gissy’s specifications and that runs on hydrogen peroxide.

The concentration is fed from the tank into a secondary chamber that houses a catalyst — usually silver. When the reaction takes place, the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into heat, water and oxygen to create steam that’s 650 degrees Fahrenheit. That steam is then pushed through a rocket nozzle, giving the bike its thrust. Watch him making the new world record in the video below.

Unfortunately, François Gissy’s top speed could not beat the fastest cycling record created by Fred Rompelberg, a Dutch cyclist who was able to reach a top speed of 268.8 km/h in 1995 in slipstream.

However, Yahoo is not the only bidder in the derby. Other players include Directv, Time Warner Cable, William Morris Endeavor, KKR, Guggenheim Digital, and The Chernin Group. The list may prolong with new entries.

In 2011, Hulu’s owners – News Corp., Disney and Comcast – put the company up for sale, but back tracked a few months later. Last month, former News Corp COO Peter Chernin rejuvenated the bidding by submitting an offer of $500 million for the video site with 3 years of content licenses from its owners.

The bidder list later grew to more than half a dozen names.

Last Wednesday, Twitter announced that it had started rolling out a new two-step verification feature. Under this new two-step verification feature, Twitter will send a password to the user’s mobile every time he or she logs in. Users will have to enter that password promptly to log in into Twitter. On Thursday, Twitter enabled this two-step authentication security feature to stop Syrian Electronic Army from hacking the microblogging site. But it seems like the ITV News failed to enable this two-step verification feature in their Twitter account @itvlondon and the following day afternoon (that is, on Friday), Syrian Electronic Army hacked ITV News’ Twitter account.

After that, the hackers tweeted, “Just kidding. The Syrian Electronic Army was here. #SEA via @Official_SEA12.” On the other side, one of the hackers’ tweets linked to a newspaper story headlined: “In battle against hackers like the Syrian Electronic Army, Twitter introduces extra security measures.”

As soon as ITV came to know about the hack, the TV station said on its national Twitter account, “We are aware that the @itvlondon account has been infiltrated and are working to return to normal service as soon as possible.”

Later, an ITV spokesman said, “The ITV News London Twitter account was compromised for a short time but has now been secured and the Tweets have been deleted.” The spokesman also mentioned that the security breach was triggered by a phishing email. When he was asked whether ITV News had enabled the two-step authentication security feature to its account or not, he replied he was not “sure.”

In 2006, NASA announced its plan to set up a solar-powered base on the Moon’s south pole around 2020 for further manned exploration. Last Thursday, NASA showed a model of an inflatable lunar base and said that private firms would be able to send astronauts to have a visit to that lunar surface by 2020. NASA also mentioned that astronauts would be able to live on the Moon for a long period!

Robert Bigelow, founder and president of the Las Vegas-based firm Bigelow Aerospace, said that his firm had surveyed about 20 companies as well as foreign space agencies and research organizations for the NASA commissioned study, which the company undertook at its own expense. The report said that private companies, including Bigelow Aerospace, have more interest in the Moon itself. In fact, Bigelow has ambition to own, lease and operate inflatable space habitats in Earth orbit and on the Moon.

Undoubtedly, setting up a permanent base on the moon would require some massive funding. Although, NASA didn’t announce how much the lunar base will cost, it said that it can be paid for within existing budgets and with contributions from partner countries and commercial investment.

The Justice Department has been pushing Apple and the five involved e-book publishers to settle and not take the case to trial. However, Apple seems adamant on taking its chances. The rest of the five nominated publishers have already signed the settlement deals, so that leaves the iPhone-maker alone in the arena.

However, many have expressed concerns regarding any possible proof that the Justice Department has. According to certain experts, the very proof can be used by Apple to claim that it was actually promoting competition in the market and not trying to fix higher prices for the e-books.

Russian authorities have tried to persuade the company’s founder, Pavel Durov, to shut down such groups which allow activists to connect and organize. However, Durov has turned down these requests so far.

In view of this, it is rather telling when the largest social network in Russia goes down by ‘mistake.’ According to an official spokesperson for the relevant Russian governmental body, “This happened by mistake.”

However, many have interpreted it as a test-drive by the Putin government to see how a possible ban on VKontakte can impact the Russian users and how the social network itself may respond to such a move. This interpretation seems very likely, especially because Putin has been working really hard to bring all major media outlets under the influence, or control, of the government.

Of course the Russian government refuses to acknowledge this openly, but Putin’s friends have been busy buying stakes in all major media houses. In fact, 48% shares of VKontakte were also purchased recently by Ilya Sherbovich, who is closely identified with the Putin regime.

Of the total $126 million that Pandora made during the first quarter, $83.9 million was generated through the mobile devices. The Ring nebula, located in the constellation Lyra, is about 2,000 light-years from Earth and measures roughly 1 light-year across. All of the gas found in the center of the nebula was expelled by the central star about 4,000 years ago. After billions of years converting hydrogen to helium in its core, the original star which was several times more massive than our Sun, began to run out of fuel and became a red giant.

C. R. Robert O’Dell of Vanderbilt University in Nashville and his team used the Hubble space telescope with other ground-based telescopes to get the new images of Ring nebula. After getting the new images, the team started comparing those images with the old images taken by Hubble in 1998. According to O’Dell’s team, the blue structure is the glow of helium and radiation from the white dwarf star (the white dot in the center of the ring) is causing the helium to glow. The team also found that Ring nebula is expanding at more than 43,000 miles an hour, but the center is moving faster than the expansion of the main ring.

O’Dell said, “The nebula is not like a bagel, but rather, it’s like a jelly doughnut, because it’s filled with material in the middle. With Hubble’s detail, we see a completely different shape than what’s been thought about historically for this classic nebula. The new Hubble observations show the nebula in much clearer detail, and we see things are not as simple as we previously thought.”

He also mentioned that the Ring Nebula will continue to expand for another 10,000 years and the nebula will become fainter and fainter until it merges with the interstellar medium.

Naturally, customers as well as certain watchdog organizations have criticized the move, citing that the company has failed to present a substantial need to impose this new surcharge. The fact that AT&T is treating this as a ‘surchage’ is an issue in itself.

By positioning it as a surcharge, AT&T is able to ward off any criticisms that would have been directed towards it had it directly increased the prices of the data plans. Moreover, since the company enjoys a huge subscriber base, it seems willing to take the risk of making a few customers unhappy while furthering its profits at the same time.

However, the update still doens’t bring advertisements to the app. Microsoft may have made the move to show Google that it is ready to cooperate but will need something in return.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, “Microsoft updated the Windows Phone YouTube app to address the restricted video and offline video access concerns voiced by Google last week. We have been in contact with Google and continue to believe that our two companies can work together to hone an app that benefits our mutual customers, partners and content providers.”

An interesting thing about this discovery is that the name of a certain ‘Appin Security Group’ has been found to be somehow linked to the hackers. Apparently, all the domains that were being used to launch the attacks on Pakistani cyber space were registered in Appin’s name.

Appin, on the other hand, has vehemently denied any kind of involvement in the attack. However, the company failed to explain as to why it’s name has been found to be linked to the infrastructure used by the hackers. Appin further cited that it will launch legal proceedings against such entities who are trying to malign it through false implication.

- After a while, the hype surrounding it will dim down, especially if we don’t try to suppress it. Let’s face it, anything we try to prohibit, always becomes more desirable and misused.

- There are many questions that Google Glass has yet to answer both its future users, and the government. Dailymotion is originally owned by Orange, which in turn is owned by France Telecom. French government was able to express its reservations over the expected deal with Yahoo, because it has a 27% stake in France Telecom.

The deal that Yahoo was looking forward to sign with Dailymotion would’ve lent the company 75% share in the video site. It was expected to rake in some $300 million. However, the French government intervened and decided not to take the deal. This may have been a decision in the national interests, but it certainly ripped Dailymotion of an extra-ordinary opportunity to grow internationally.

As a consolation, the CEO of France Telecom has announced that his company has plans of investing €30 - €50 million in Dailymotion. Compared to the $300 million being offered by Yahoo, this is too little. However, if the investment really goes well and Dailymotion is able to make good use of it, the company may be able to attract a global audience.

The machine would work like any other 3D printer, but instead of sending a design to the 3D printer, you will send a recipe with precise ingredients and measurements. The 3D printer will be using cartridges of powder and oils. It will allow the food to be stored for long periods of time (up to 30 years) without spoiling.

The printer will start being built in two weeks, and once it’s been built, Contractor will attempt to print a pizza comprised of three layers of nutritional powders mixed with water and oil out first. Here’s a video.

The Lockheed Martin F-35B fighter jet is capable of vertical take-offs and landings, and appears to hover in the air during this process in a sort of meditative state. The jet can travel at speeds of up to 1,200 miles per hour. The F-35B can’t carry as much fuel or arms. That means it can only be used for relatively short trips. The F-35B’s advanced stealth allows it to engage ground enemies from a greater distance and rapidly clear the area. The jet also can carry a weapons payload of 16,000 pounds. According to the Lockheed Martin website, the F-35B is designed to land on both conventional runways and in remote areas. Here’s the video.

Lockheed Martin hails the new F-35B fighter jet as “the most flexible, technologically sophisticated multirole fighter ever.” The first vertical take-off and landing test of the production model was successfully conducted on May 10 at Naval Air Station Patuxen River, Md. This new development will open up landing spaces unavailable to many aircrafts.

According to GFX Benchmark website, the upcoming Galaxy S4 Active is not packed with neither Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 nor Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor. Rather, the Korean giant uses Qualcomm’s slower Snapdragon S4 Plus SoC, a 1.9GHz quadcore processor with Adreno 320 GPU. The device runs Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) with TouchWiz pre-installed, while retaining the full 1080p HD a 5.0-inch display.

The new smartphone is speculated to ship in the next few weeks. But we cannot make any assumption about the pricing of the device. It has a downgraded processor that might reduce the cost, but manufacturing of this rugged smartphone may associate extra costs. And, there is no official confirmation yet.

The sensitive information essentially refers to knowledge of U.S. surveillance targets as well as names of any under-cover agents that U.S. security agencies may have in China. No one is sure exactly how much of this information was attained by the hackers. But the government officials claim that these hackers did access valuable information for sure.

Especially, any such persons who maintained Gmail accounts, were the primary focus of these hackers. If any of these users were under-cover agents, the hack essentially put their lives in danger. Alternatively, if any of them was being monitored by the U.S. intelligence agencies, the Chinese hackers could have disseminated the information to the Chinese government, thus defying the whole purpose of monitoring.

These concerns are compounded by similar concerns cited by Microsoft recently. According to a Microsoft official, the Chinese hackers also tried to access Microsoft’s servers and tried to reach such accounts which had been tagged for surveillance by the U.S. authorities.

According to Microsoft’s David W. Aucsmith, “What we found was the attackers were actually looking for the accounts that we had lawful wiretap orders on.” This method, Aucsmith stated, was fairly sophisticated since rather than trying to directly access FBI servers, these hackers tried to identify the monitored personnel by going through their emails.

However, before the avid gamer in you gets a bit too disappointed, the good news is that you will be able to continue your Gamescore over at Xbox 360, while making the switch from Xbox 360. Moreover, the Xbox 360 titles will continue to be around and Microsoft will continue to expend its resources into developing them further.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, “We care very much about the investment people have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future.” Ideally, one may want to quit dreaming of Xbox One, and shift attention to Sony’s PlayStation 4 because of this. But nearly all next-generation consoles, including PS4, lack backward compatibility and won’t support titles from older consoles.

Nigel Warren is the person who rented out his apartment in NY through Airbnb. However, New York officials soon brought a case against him, citing that by renting out his apartment, he has violated the illegal hotel law enacted by the city back in 2010.

Warren fought back the charge, with Airbnb also siding with him. The original fine imposed on Warren was $7,000. During the case, Airbnb argued that Warren’s case should be taken as an exception since he didn’t mimic the hotels in any way while renting out his apartment.

However, the judge has now ruled against Warren, citing, “While breech of the condominium rules is not of itself a ground for sustaining this (notice), respondent was in breach (through Warren’s acts) and the existence of the rule against rental for transient, hotel, or motel purposes is evidence that the unit owners were to restrict their use to permanent occupation.”

Thankfully, the sum of fine has been trimmed down from $7,000 to $2,400. Airbnb is naturally unhappy with the verdict and stated, “There is universal agreement that occasional hosts like Nigel Warren were not the target of the 2010 law, but that agreement provides little comfort to the handful of people, like Nigel, who find themselves targeted by overzealous enforcement officials. It is time to fix this law and protect hosts who occasionally rent out their own homes. Eighty-seven percent of Airbnb hosts in New York list just a home they live in — they are average New Yorkers trying to make ends meet, not illegal hotels that should be subject to the 2010 law.”

Cloud storage is fast becoming something of a mandatory feature for all devices. Microsoft has been careful to ensure its inclusion in Xbox One. You can upload your regular content, games, game saves and other data straight to the cloud storage that Microsoft offers. You can also recard the games while you are playing through the DVR option.

During the launch event, Microsoft shied away from divulging the exact pricing and availability details of the new console. However, it did reveal that Xbox One will land the shelves later this year.
