Call me weird, but I love cover tunes. Oh, occasionally one will irritate me and make me wonder why the heck they remade such a classic song. But, for the most part, I really enjoy listening to reworkings of familiar songs. I think it's because I like to sing along and it's so much easier when I already know all the words.

As with all of my lists of "favorites," these are my ten faves for today only (in no particular order). I have no idea what my top 10 might be tomorrow.

Manic Monday

I thought I'd try out Manic Monday this week. The questions are tough!

What does it mean to you to have courage?
I always tell my daughter that being brave (or having courage) doesn't mean you're not afraid. Everybody's afraid. Being brave means that even though you're afraid, you face that thing you're afraid of anyway.

Is your favorite time the past, present or the future?
I love thinking fondly of the past, but my feet are firmly planted in the present.

What makes you a good person?
Wow, this is a hard one. I sometimes wonder if I even am a good person. *sigh*

Oh well, since the jury's still out on whether I'm good or not, the internet has some helpful advice for me in the meantime:

Help Grant Noah's Wish!

Hi Everyone..

Diana Biorkman needs your help in making her son's wish come true. She has a 5 year old son, Noah, in the last stages of a 2.5 year battle with Neuroblastoma Cancer.

Noah was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma in February 2007. He went into remission in August 2007. In September 2008, Noah relapsed with lesions in his right arm and right leg. After going through six different trials, the cancer continues to spread...

At this time, they are celebrating Christmas this weekend because they do not think he will make it through the season. He asked his mom if she could have his friends send him Christmas cards or ornaments for Christmas.

All he wanted was to see how many people love him.

I usually don't believe these sorts of appeals because they just about always turn out to be scams, but I checked it out on Snopes and it's real. And it broke my heart.

Children shouldn't die. Parents shouldn't lose children. And a sick little boy who wishes for lots of Christmas cards deserves to receive more cards than he could ever imagine.

We sent our card yesterday.

10 ways to waste time on the internet

Wasting time is something I'm very, very good at!

1. Release anonymous messages into the ether! Send a Tweet in a bottle ... or send an Oceangram.

2. Learn new facts each day at Learn Something Every Day ... or Factropolis.

3. Upload photos to create cards, photomontages, magazine covers, and more with WriteOnIt.

I used a picture that I made at Face Your Manga.

4. Tell the world about the little moments that gave you satisfaction at It Made My Day.

5. Play DeepLeap. It's like high-speed Scrabble. Make words out of the letters you're given, but hurry before they disappear!

6. Generate fake advertisements on the fly with Ad Generator. Words from real corporate slogans are remixed and randomized and paired with related images from Flickr. Try it, it's fun!

7. What do you get when you use Translation Party to translate an English phrase into Japanese and back to English over and over again? Well, in some cases you get hilarious gibberish!

I started with this English phrase: Be who you are and say what you feel: because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

8. Play with words. Use Wordle to create word clouds or Wordie to make fun lists of words and phrases.

9. Type! TypeRacer is a social typing game that lets you match your speed against strangers or friends.

I typed my stubby little fingers to the bone, achieving what I thought was a pretty decent speed of 63 words per minute, and I still only came in 6th!

10. Play the most outrageously addictive trivia game on the interweb: You Don't Know Jack!

I love that there's an app for everything in life. As a geek, I just naturally enjoy fooling around with new toys and, as a person, I dig anything that makes my life easier.

A web app that definitely makes my geeky life easier is MonthlyInfo.com. I use it to track my periods (sorry to my male readers). It's way better than just marking the days on my calendar.

MonthlyInfo actually calculates when my next cranky time will be, based on my prior ~~homicidal activity~~ visits from Aunt Flo. It's amazingly accurate and it emails me a gentle reminder a couple of days in advance so I know when ~~I should start avoiding other human beings~~ the festivities will begin.

Today I discovered another online app that I think will make everyone's lives complete. It's called Bedpost and it allows you to track your sexual activity online!

My gawd, how did we ever live without this? Life just got much simpler — especially for all those people who so easily lose track of their casual copulations!

According to Springwise: "Users begin by creating a profile for the partner involved in their most recent encounter and then clicking on the calendar to indicate when the encounter happened. Then, they enter not just the time it happened, but also how long the encounter lasted, some descriptive tags and a star-based rating of the experience. The site then records all that information and presents it in a map of activity for the month on the user's dashboard. For a historical view, Bedpost tracks summary statistics including frequency, average rating, and totals for the month and year so far. 'Solo sex' tracking is also available."

Good grief! Set up a profile. Record the date. Record the time. Record the duration. Then add tags — and rate the experience! Call me old-fashioned, but not only does this wring every last ounce of romance out of the "encounter," it could potentially take longer than the sex itself!

It pains me to my very geeky core to say this, but maybe — just maybe — there shouldn't be an app for everything.

Of course, I may be a little biased cuz the person in this awesome Halloween costume happens to be my husband. The pièce de résistance was that pesky little photobomber squirrel who kept popping in and out of the photo, much to the delight of Husband's co-workers.

Child dressed as a homicidal, blood-spattered Barbie doll, complete with a severed Ken head stuffed into a bowling bag (I'm just so damn proud).

She won't let me publish a picture for your horror and enjoyment, so you'll just have to imagine last years' costume with ripped sleeves and high-velocity spatter. Basically, it's how Aurora would have looked if Sleeping Beauty had been written by Stephen King.

I pulled the covers up under my chin, shivered, and tried desperately to ignore the sound of my own breathing. Each hollow exhalation was amplified, like the sound of dry hair trapped between a pillow and an ear.

The Tylenol finally began to push down on my eyelids and I slowly spiralled into thick, heavy darkness. My neck, back, arms, and head took turns sending dull pings into the murk of my dreams, insistent that I not forget the achy misery waiting for me when I regained consciousness.

I've been called that before (at least I think that's what they said)
