I dug up an old mix from BamaLoveSoul. Don't they always come through when you need them? Anyway, it's DJ Rahdu's Gypsy Eyes (circa 2005 or 2006-ish). Hadn't played it in a while, but was delighted to hear it. This is incredibly nice, so if you hadn't heard it before, then make it a point to listen. Don't you dare sleep. Cop it here.

Not too long ago, I re-watched A Good Day to Be Black and Sexy. Various vignettes float above a sexy soundtrack. Interesting, worth a watch and definitely worth a listen...

I agree with the dire need for border security, but for those law-abiding undocumented workers who are already here, I'm just sayin'...

CJP/UIC Jazz Academy 2010 Registration is Now Open!

Chicago Jazz Philharmonic/UIC Jazz Academy is a summer jazz camp that builds on CJP's school year programming known as JazzAlive. Students develop skills and knowledge about music and music performance through participation in various ensembles such as Jazz Band, Drumline, Handchimes, and Strings. Additional courses offered range from Jazz Aesthetics to Instrumental Technique.

Located on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, the camp opens up new opportunities for the participants.

Chicago Jazz Philharmonic/UIC Jazz Academy helps resolve three critical issues:

The need for children in underserved communities to become interested in pursuing higher education
The lack of sustained music education from grade school through high school
The need to preserve jazz as a genre for the next generation

here's an organization that I am completely in love with. not only do they have a phenomenal artistic director and composer -- world renown jazz trumpeter and composer, orbert davis, but the chicago jazz philharmonic's sound is striking and majestic. in addition to this greatness, they also have a comprehensive youth education initiative called jazzalive! which reaches students from all ages, from early childhood through young adulthood. davis started the program with his best friend, mark ingram. and if that's not enough, the cjp works collectively with uic to host a summer jazz academy that builds further on the jazzalive!'s school year program. students develop skills and knowledge about music and music performance through participation in various ensembles such as jazz band, drumline, handchimes, and strings. additional courses offered range from jazz aesthetics to instrumental technique. check out a clip of the work and dedication put forth by the cjp, uic, and their extraordinary young musicians...
