The Committee of the newly established Union of Associations of African Graduates of Soviet and Russian Universities is proud to announce the official formation of a continental platform dedicated to strengthening unity, cooperation, and shared progress among African graduates who studied in the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation.

China bans sale of most iPhone models

New York (CNN Business). A Chinese court has banned the sale and import of most iPhone models in a stunning decision amid the trade war between the United States and China.

The ban does not cover the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Plus or iPhone XR, which were not yet available when Qualcomm filed its lawsuit. The phones covered by the ban make up about 10% to 15% of current iPhone sales in China, according to Daniel Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities.
The court granted a pair of preliminary injunctions requested by Qualcomm, an American microchip maker. Qualcomm claims that Apple violates two of its patents in the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The patents allow people to edit and resize photos on a phone and to manage apps by using a touchscreen, according to Qualcomm.
The practical effect of the injunction is not yet clear. The ruling was announced publicly Monday but put into effect last week, but Apple said in a statement that all iPhone models remain available in China.Trump wants iPhones made in the US. Apple accused Qualcomm of playing dirty tricks, including asserting a patent that had already been invalidated by international courts, and other patents that it had never before used. Apple said it will pursue a legal response in court.
"Qualcomm's effort to ban our products is another desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world," Apple said.
Apple on Monday filed a request for the court to reconsider its decision. Qualcomm applauded the ruling, saying Apple owes it money for using its technology.
"We deeply value our relationships with customers, rarely resorting to the courts for assistance, but we also have an abiding belief in the need to protect intellectual property rights," Don Rosenberg, general counsel for Qualcomm, said in a statement. "Apple continues to benefit from our intellectual property while refusing to compensate us."
Investors were mostly unmoved. Apple's (AAPL) stock closed up nearly 1% Monday. Qualcomm's (QCOM) stock rose 2%.
Shock ruling adds to threat of trade war escalation

In 2017, Apple sued Qualcomm for $1 billion after the chipmaker stopped paying for the exclusive right to put its chips in iPhones. Qualcomm withheld its payments after the European Union began investigating them. The EU ultimately deemed the payments illegal, and In January 2018, the European Commission ordered Qualcomm to pay a $1.2 billion fine over the issue.
Apple and Qualcomm are also suing one another in several separate patent disputes. Qualcomm has asked a US federal judge to ban the sale of iPhones in one case. In June, a judge in the International Trade Commission found that Apple had violated one of Qualcomm's patents related to battery-saving technology.
In July, Qualcomm said Apple would no longer include its modems in iPhones. Qualcomm cut its profit forecast after the announcement.

Rais John Magufuli ametoa vitambulisho 670,000 kuwatambua wafanyabiashara wadogo nchini Tanzania kuhakikisha wanafanya shughuli zao bila kusumbuliwa.

Rais ametoa vitambulisho hivyo leo Jumatatu Desemba 10, 2018 kwenye mkutano wake na watendaji wa Mamlaka ya Mapato Tanzania (TRA), wakuu wa mikoa yote nchini humo kujadili namna ya kuboresha mazingira ya ukusanyaji mapato.

Amesema kwa muda mrefu amekuwa akiiagiza TRA pamoja na halmashauri kutowatoza kodi wajasiriamali wadogo ambao mitaji yao haizidi Sh4 milioni lakini utekelezaji wake umekuwa wa kusuasua.
Kila Mkoa utapewa vitambulisho 25,000 na kila mjasiriamali mdogo atalipia Sh20,000 na fedha hiyo kupelekwa TRA.

Kwa malipo hayo, kila mkuu wa Mkoa atakusanya Sh500 milioni na ikilazimu aagize vitambulisho vingine kwa ajili ya watakaovihitaji.

Rais Magufuli amesema hajaridhishwa na utaratibu wa kuunganisha kitambulisho cha TRA na kile cha Taifa kuwatambua wafanyabiashara wadogo akibainisha baadhi yao kutozwa kodi nje ya maagizo.

“Suala la kuwasajili wafanyabiashara wadogo linaenda polepole sana, tangu nimetoa maagizo kwamba mamalishe na wamachinga wasisumbuliwe. Unakuta mtu ana mtaji usiozidi Sh4 milioni lakini wanasumbuliwa kila siku anatafutwa kulipa kodi na ushuru wa kila aina,” amesema.

Amesema vitambulisho hivyo ni kwa ajili ya kuanzia na endapo kutakuwa na mahitaji zaidi vitatengenezwa kulingana na mahitaji ya mkoa husika.

“Nimeamua kufanya tofauti, nimechapisha vitambulisho mimi mwenyewe. Mfanyabiashara akishavaa kitambulisho hiki asisumbuliwe na mtu yoyote na kwa vile nimekitoa mimi, sioni mtu atakayeenda kumsumbua,” amesema Rais Magufuli.

Katika hatua nyingine, Rais Magufuli ameeleza kutoridhishwa na kiwango cha ukusanyaji wa mapato nchini Thumo huku akitaja baadhi ya sababu zinazochangia kuwa ni viwango vikubwa vya kodi vinavyotozwa na TRA.

French opposition rejects Macron’s concessions to Yellow Vests, some demand ‘citizen revolution’

Macron’s concessions to the Yellow Vests has failed to appease protesters and opposition politicians, such as Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who called for “citizen’s revolution” to continue until a fair distribution of wealth is achieved.

I believe that Act 5 of the citizen revolution in our country will be a moment of great mobilization.

Immediately after French President Macron declared a “social and economic state of emergency” in response to large-scale protests by members of the Yellow Vest movement, promising a range of concessions to address their grievances, left-wing opposition politician Mélenchon called on the grassroots campaign to continue their revolution next Saturday.

Macron’s promise of a €100 minimum wage increase, tax-free overtime pay and end-of-year bonuses, Mélenchon argued, will not affect any “considerable part” of the French population. Yet the leader of La France Insoumise stressed that the “decision” to rise up rests with “those who are in action.”

The Socialist Party's first secretary, Olivier Faure, also slammed Macron's financial concessions to struggling workers, noting that his general “course has not changed.”

Although welcoming certain tax measures, Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally (previously National Front), accused the president’s “model” of governance based on “wild globalization, financialization of the economy, unfair competition,” of failing to address the social and cultural consequences of the Yellow Vest movement.

Macron’s speech was a “great comedy,”according to Debout la France chairman, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, who accused the French President of “hypocrisy.”

Yet many found Melanchon's calls to rise up against the government unreasonable, accusing the 67-year-old opposition politician of being an “opportunist” and “populist,” who is trying to hijack the social protest movement for his own gain.

Furthermore, some 54 percent of French believe the Yellow Vests achieved their goals and want rallies to stop, OpinionWay survey showed. While half of the survey respondents considered Macron's anti-crisis measures unconvincing, another 49 percent found the president to be successful in addressing the demands of the protesters. Some 68 percent of those polled following Macron’s speech on Monday especially welcomed the increase in the minimum wage, while 78 percent favored tax cuts.

The Yellow Vest protests against pension cuts and fuel tax hikes last month were organized and kept strong via social media, without help from France’s powerful labor unions or official political parties. Some noted that such a mass mobilization of all levels of society managed to achieve unprecedented concessions from the government, which the unions failed to negotiate over the last three decades.

US Army guerrilla faction planned terror, Obama's assassination

A group of US soldiers planning to take over their base, blow up targets around the country, wrest control of the government and kill the president – it could be a Hollywood blockbuster, but it’s a developing story in the southern state of Georgia.

Four US Army soldiers from the Fort Stewart base in southeast Georgia are charged with killing a former comrade and his girlfriend in a bid to prevent the couple from informing on a militia group of which they were all members.

One of the soldiers has agreed to cooperate with the prosecution in exchange for a lesser charge, while the rest are charged with malicious murder, felony murder, criminal gang activity, aggravated assault and using a firearm while committing a felony.

The case's prosecutors paint a vivid picture of the group’s plans and actions.

Taking over the sprawling Fort Stewart base, bombing a fountain in nearby Savannah, bombing a dam and poisoning the apple crop in Washington State, and, eventually, toppling the US government and killing the president – these were the goals of the group, which called itself F.E.A.R., an acronym for Forever Enduring Always Ready.

“This domestic terrorist organization did not simply plan and talk,” said prosecutor Isabel Pauley. “Prior to the murders in this case, the group took action. Evidence shows the group possessed the knowledge, means and motives to carry out their plans.”

According to the prosecution, the group is the brainchild of one Pvt. Issac Aguigui, who allegedly sought out soldiers who were in trouble or disillusioned.

Members could easily identify each other by distinctive tattoos resembling the anarchy symbol.

Little information is available about the man behind the plan, however. Gossip website Gawker.com identified Aguigui as a page during the 2008 Republican Convention. Prosecutors say that during a videotaped interview with military investigators, Aguigui called himself “the nicest cold-blooded murderer you will ever meet.”

Aguigui’s pregnant wife died last year – and though he was never charged with her death, prosecutors say the judge finds it "highly suspicious.”

The $500,000 of insurance and benefits Aguigui received after his wife’s death financed the group’s activities. At least $87,000 went towards the purchase of semiautomatic rifles and bomb components. An undisclosed amount was spent on the acquisition of land in Washington State for the group's use.

While it’s unclear how easy it was to join the group, there seems to have been only one way to leave it.

Former soldier Michael Roark, also a member of the militia, was killed just two days after leaving the Army. He and girlfriend Tiffany York were killed by other F.E.A.R. members, allegedly on the orders of Aguigui, who called them “loose ends” and believed they would betray others, prosecutors say.

The pair was taken to the woods under the pretense of going to shooting practice, and both were then shot in the head.

The Army seems to have had some knowledge of the gang's activities, going so far as to charge four soldiers with the slayings of Roark and York in March. But the charges were never acted upon, and were later dropped.

Moreover, Fort Stewart spokesperson Kevin Larson said, “Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield does not have a gang or militia problem.” He added, however, that Army investigators are still working on the case.
