After months of dreaming, planning, and pouring our hearts into every detail, we’re thrilled to share that the TomKat Shoppe officially opened its doors in November—and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you in!

Located in Downtown Ocotillo, the TomKat Shoppe is more than just a home and gift store. It’s a true extension of our brand and our passion for beautiful living. From curated furniture and home décor to stationery and thoughtful gifts, every item in the shoppe has been hand-selected to inspire and elevate the everyday.

When the suite right next door to TomKat Design + Real Estate became available, I knew it was meant to be. I jumped on the opportunity and got to work creating a welcoming, inspiring shoppe that complements everything we’re doing on the design and real estate side. It was the perfect way to bring all the elements of our brand together in one beautiful location.

Opening this shop has been such a full-circle moment for me. It’s been a decade since we’ve had retail space, and stepping back into this world – with fresh vision, renewed purpose, and an incredible team – feels incredibly special. This time around, the space is bigger, brighter, and more aligned with our love for interiors, lifestyle, and all things home!

A highlight of this journey has been having my daughter, Kate help me bring the shoppe to life! She will be graduating this year and heading out of state for college in the Fall, but in the meantime, she is contributing her creativity and style at the shoppe. Working side by side has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience and having her at TomKat everyday makes my mama heart happy.

We’ve already had such a warm response from our amazing community, and we can’t wait to keep growing, evolving, and filling the shoppe with more inspiration and beautiful things!

We are all looking forward to the change of season and cooler temps! Our team has been very busy selling (yes, we do real estate too!) and remodeling homes for our clients! One lucky family finished their remodel before the pandemic hit and have been loving every minute of spending extra time in their TomKat remodel. We had the opportunity to work on a full remodel design of their Valencia neighborhood home in Chandler. The clients wanted to transform the house from the typical blend of desert browns to a modern light and bright TomKat designed home. We are so excited to share the finished result!

The front living room off the entry was originally open, but the clients wanted to transform that space into a game room for their teen sons. Typically, we are taking down walls to open up the space, but in this case we added walls and modern barn doors to turn the space into their dream teen hangout room.

For our coffee-loving clients we designed a beverage bar in the game room complete with a pot filler for their espresso and coffee machine.

The kitchen went through a complete renovation with all new cabinets, quartzite countertops and backsplash, new black and brass pendants, steel floating shelves and a walk-in pantry. A bench was built into the back of the island for additional seating and viewing the big game on Sundays. Lower cabinets were extended into the kitchen nook area for additional storage and entertaining space. Custom hanging steel shelves above the cabinets gives the space a modern bar vibe. The original kitchen only had a deep cabinet for pantry storage so a much needed walk-in pantry was created between the kitchen and game room.

This is a close-up of the gorgeous quartzite countertops and backsplash, the custom steel floating shelves and modern black hardware that gives the white shaker cabinets a fresh update.

Always thinking out of the box, the design team transformed the kitchen nook into a functional bar and entertainment space with custom hanging steel shelves, wine storage, and plenty of space for serving.

The living room took on a complete transformation when we added a 16 foot slider door to the back of the house and a gorgeous custom black shiplap fireplace with storage cabinets. This filled the whole space with so much light.

All the bathrooms in the home received the TomKat treatment. In the primary bathroom, the shower and bathtub received a facelift with new black and white tile, and quartz and a shiplap surround. The glass blocks were removed and a black grid shower door was added, which really pops with the white subway tile shower walls.

The his and her vanities were completely replaced with custom vanities, quartz countertops, brass and handblown opal glass pendant lights, and new black faucets and hardware.

A signature TomKat black round mirror is framed by the hanging brushed brass pendants over each vanity.

We also gave the boys bathroom a dramatic renovation by turning the tub/shower combination into a modern glass enclosed shower, adding a custom vanity, gorgeous patterned marble tile floor, and new light fixtures and black faucet.

The en suite guest bathroom also received some much needed TomKat love. The shower/tub combo was upgraded to a walk in shower with white fan tile and a tall custom shower curtain to soften the space. A small vanity, gray hex tile, a minimalist light fixture with porcelain bulbs and iron mirror gives this bathroom a new fresh modern look.

Our client wanted to have a little fun with the powder room, so we turned up the TomKat volume to give it a little black and white modern edge. We ran matte black picket tile up the back wall and replaced the floors with a black and white patterned cement tile. The traditional pedestal sink was replaced with a sleek white steel open vanity. A chrome industrial style faucet and pivot mirror add that edge to this modern TomKat design. A large chrome and opal globe pendant lights up the space from the ceiling. Such a transformation, right?

We enjoyed turning our clients dreams of having a modern home with space for their teen boys into reality! The home now reflects their style and they can not wait to invite friends and family into their gorgeous new space!

Hello friends!

It’s that time finally, when I sit down and write here on the blog! It’s been a while and our blog posts have been few and far between. I truly miss blogging and the connection it brings. Social media today moves so fast and is so disconnected that I long for the days when things were slower, posts were meaningful and true connection was happening.

We can talk more about that later, as today I am here to update you all about the growth and focus of TomKat and share some incredible news about the next chapter! About 5 years ago, I decided to completely pivot the brand and business. I went from running a shop and creating party and holiday content for brands like HGTV, to building a new team to take on real estate and design for clients.

A little bit of history
If you don’t know my career history, my degree is in business marketing and while on a summer off from ASU, I obtained my real estate license. I worked in both real estate and advertising during college, and took a position with an ad agency here in Phoenix after graduation. Quickly thereafter, I realized I was in the wrong field as my position did not allow me to be creative at all. I left that advertising industry to start a real estate company with my mom, who had practiced real estate my entire life. As far back as I can remember, I was obsessed with homes and design. I loved the home magazines my mom would bring home, in particular the ones that featured luxury homes. It was a natural fit for me to go into real estate. For nearly a decade, my mom and I had great success with our real estate business. However, when the market crashed in 2008, I made the decision to leave the company as it didn’t make sense to put my toddlers in daycare with the market in such turmoil.

From the desire to have something of my own to work on, TomKat was born! The name “TomKat” was inspired by our children’s names, Tommy & Kate. It started as a blog, and quickly became successful. Blogging was new, and jumping on a trend early always reaps its rewards. Social media didn’t exist yet and blogging was a way to put things out in the world and connect with people who truly cared about what you were sharing. As a born entrepreneur, I secretly hoped it would eventually be something that would be lucrative. I couldn’t possibly have imagined what it would become! For 10 years, I enjoyed directing photo shoots, creating content and publishing here on this blog. I traveled to incredible places, met Martha Stewart (twice) and worked with amazing brands like Pottery Barn Kids, Coca-Cola, Barbie, Vera Bradley, Shutterfly, and the list goes on. I built a huge, loyal following of mostly fellow moms who wanted to create beautiful homes, parties and holidays for their families. It was a dream job with new and exciting things always happening. It was a gig that allowed for freedom and creating my own schedule, which was essential while raising the kids. As the kids grew, my business/blog grew and I look back so fondly on those years and the amazing opportunities I was given. If you really think about the evolution of the internet and social media, anyone from anywhere can put their talents out in the world and be recognized for it! It truly is incredible!

5 years ago
Fast forward to 2017, and by then, blogging essentially stopped and social media took over. Influencers were everywhere and being heard and seen became a lot more difficult. Content became quick and less meaningful and the world stopped taking time to “read” anything. Now 5 years later, things are even more fast-paced and content needs to be loud and entertaining to capture any attention. It’s a different world and I honestly get sucked into it just as you do. However, it’s exhausting both as a viewer and as a business trying to be heard. The pressure to post intriguing content constantly is real, and I’m tired.

Combining my passions
With these changes, along with several other reasons including the fact that my kids are now older and very independent, I decided it was time for a big change for the brand. My husband and I have a very strong shared passion for buying and remodeling homes. We have lived in 20+ homes since our first home in 2001. Whenever I would share our homes (before + after!) so many friends and followers would ask if I could help with their homes. Since that wasn’t my business focus, it wasn’t something I ever did for others but it always sat in the back of my mind as an idea to be pursued. In 2017, I took the plunge and decided to pivot the business entirely and combine my design, real estate, and flipping expertise with the TomKat brand that I had built. I started the real estate brokerage, TomKat Real Estate and redefined the TomKat Studio as the design branch. I assembled a new team, focused on helping local clients design, renovate, sell and buy homes, along with flipping our own homes and investment properties.

Here we are today
The last few years have been exciting, exhilarating, and challenging all at once. In essence, it was really starting two new businesses at the same time (real estate + design) and offering all new services including listing, buying, remodeling, decorating, staging and also flipping homes. Every client and transaction has been a learning experience to fine-tune our processes. We have focused on figuring out how to run things better and how to continue growing the business. Our team has evolved and changed, and with covid and market changes, we have stayed flexible and adapted to what’s happening in the world around us.

After many months of talks and the full support of my husband, earlier this year, I decided it was time to take the business to the next level. It was a bit lonely working from home by myself. I really missed the team camaraderie that I had built in the past. I knew in my heart that it was time for the next chapter of TomKat. I could continue doing what I was doing, or commit to taking things to the next level. It was go big, or go home and lay by pool all day. Ha! Which may sound nice, but I would be bored out of my mind! I am so passionate about everything that my business and brand is, I want to share it with everyone… more clients, more staff, more agents, more designers.

In February, I took the leap and signed a lease for my dream office space located in Downtown Ocotillo. I have inquired about available space in this center for years (but I was never ready until now!), as the style and vibe is so TomKat. Gorgeous, white buildings with black accents, patterned tile and Modern Mediterranean style. Beautifully designed restaurants and a new darling coffee + wine shop, which is perfect for meeting clients. I never imagined a brick + mortar office location anywhere else, and I honestly don’t think I would have opened one if it couldn’t be there. It is truly a dream come true!

After months of designing and construction, we moved into the office a few weeks ago! As soon as it is fully complete, I will be having the space photographed so we can share it with you. The space will serve as both a design + real estate office, as well as a design center for showcasing our favorite materials for our client remodels! We will be growing the business, growing our team and growing the brand that has evolved so much over the past 14 years!

Is it exciting? Yes! Is it scary? Yes! But I am ready for a new challenge and nothing lights me up more than new business ventures! Let’s go! Come visit us anytime! We’d love to see you!

Pillows are the easiest way to update for each season. We love these neutral colors that add warmth and comfort to any room in your home. Summer is here and if you are like us, you love to refresh your outdoor space every season! Adding simple touches can easily transform any outdoor space. Here are a few of our favorites for this summer!

We are so excited that our new home is featured this month’s Ocotillo Living Magazine! While my family and I absolutely LOVED our last home, which happens to be in the same neighborhood, we were staying open in the event that something a bit larger came on the market. When this incredible, 6200 square foot custom home on the Ocotillo Golf Course came on the market for the first time ever, in July of last year, we immediately jumped on the opportunity. We were the first showing and first offer in and closed on the home in August.

Once we closed, we began the six month renovation process and transformed the dated home into the home of our dreams! The main goals for this remodel design were to open up the kitchen to the main living area and modernize the home with neutral, light airy style. The kitchen was fully renovated with new white shaker cabinetry with matte black hardware, a 10′ island with waterfall edge, textured tile backsplash, Café appliances and a custom black metal hood by our friends at Steel & Stone.

All six bathrooms were given complete makeovers with gorgeous tile finishes and modern fixtures. The main fireplace was extended and finished in a simple, smooth drywall finish with custom trim detail. Hardwood flooring, fresh paint, on-trend light fixtures and finishes throughout give our home a warm and relaxed feeling.

With the real estate market as crazy as it is, our family debated selling this home or moving into it, and in the end, much to our kids delight, we moved in! With 5 bedrooms plus a basement, there is plenty of space for our family of four to entertain and enjoy!
