From the last quarter of 2013, HP rolls out new printers and MFP that support mobile printing. Last year was quite definite that wireless printers were dominating the industry, with back to back releases of new models with such feature. The term superior had been associated to so many things and that includes Canon’s Color Imaging technology. Could we say it is indeed the most outstanding in the imaging industry? Well how can we say so, we haven’t tried enough of units to determine and prove that matter. However, we can at least feature some of the color laser printers that Canon claimed to have the said innovation.

If you want to find out how many Canon printers have this technology, you can use the search box at the top right part of their site and use the keyword “Color Imaging Technology”. It isn’t the normal way, actually we’re not even aware of how it should be done, but that’s how we do it. You’ll find 1 to 15 pages of 806 results, but not all of those are guaranteed to have the said feature, probably 2-3% at the least.

To narrow it down, we chose a few printers which you can even count with your two hands or probably just one, that feature the SCI technology. We’ll be using that abbreviated term only for this post, so don’t misinterpret it or accuse us of anything. Again, to simply put it, we just want to shorten the term mainly for this post.

Now these are the chosen printer models from Canon’s wide range of all-in-one and non-AIO machines that feature the SCI technology.

From the imageCLASS/i-SENSYS:

Cold Reset is a technical term used by many users when resetting their printers back to its factory default settings. It is a useful way to refresh your unit especially if you have configured it several times and you feel like there’s something wrong with it. Perhaps it needs to be reset in order to get it back in good shape and fix any incorrect settings you made.

For printer models with network support, it is a helpful solution if you want to refresh the printer’s IP address and network settings if anything went wrong. Just take note that all the custom settings you made and configured with the unit will be erased. Thus, if the printer you’re using has a JetDirect card, it is recommended to remove it from its slot to avoid getting affected by the resetting process.

To perform Cold Reset with HP 3800 Color Laser Printer, use the instructions below as your guide and make you follow it step by step. This can also be applied with other supported HP printer series which include Color LaserJet 3000 and 3600 configurations. We suggest that you also remove the HP 3800 toner cartridges and other supplies inside the machine temporarily. You will have to install it again once the resetting process is through.

Note: If you want to keep a reference of your printer’s current settings before performing cold reset, then print a configuration page as a document with the unit’s previous settings prior to resetting it.

Use the directional keys (up and down), press the down arrow and the screen should display a message like this “Cold Reset”.

Select the option by pressing the Green button and in a minute that printer will initiate the cold resetting process and will continue power-on-sequence.

Streaks, lines and dots are some common print quality problems that anyone may experience with a laser printer, particularly the ones that came from HP. Regardless of the brand or name of your printers, there’s absolutely a hundred percent probability that you’ll have to encounter one of these issues.

You see, there are printer problems that may look similar yet they’re not and the ones aforementioned are good examples. They are related with each other such that print quality is affected however, the approach to resolve such issues may differ from one problem to another. Sometimes a component just malfunction which results to producing printouts with white lines and blotches. Replacing printer consumables or supplies such as cartridges is a recurring task that every user has to undergo along with maintaining the machine’s proper condition. Though you may not have to do it on a regular basis, unless the machine is being used for business printing, it may become a regular task. Primarily in the office where the use of printer equipment is part of their everyday routine, compiling documents, reports and such.

However, there are inevitable times when we users experience errors and issues that occur at the wrong time. We tend to bother ourselves thinking what could have caused the problem, but how can we be so sure that our conclusion is certainly the right one. Hence, the only solution we can think of is by making yourself knowledgeable about some these and those printer issues. As a user, you should, but still it’s a matter of choice and is highly dependent on you.

Well our topic for now would be about the printer’s cartridge carousel. Such term is only associated with printer models that are designed with a print carousel component, like for example the HP 1500, 2500 and 2550 series.

Problem Description

Actually this problem doesn't regularly occur every time you install replacements. It is typically experienced by many users right after installing cartridges during the initial setup of a printer. It is a state wherein the cartridge carousel stops from rotating followed by the light indicators flashing repeatedly.

Resolving the Issue (Cartridge Carousel Not Rotating)

Since the main possible cause of error has something to do with the consumables you recently installed, remove them from the machine and inspect if there’s any remaining tapes and seals. Empty the paper trays from any loaded media or sheets before installing new cartridges since the feeder/roller tends to rotate during installation. Paper jams may prevent the machine from continuing the process of installing replacements. Power cycle the printer by simply pulling the power cable out from its outlet and wait for a couple of seconds before turning it back on.

HP 4730 Toner Cartridges Doesn't Seem to Last Long Enough?

As a customer who regularly purchases printer supplies such as replacement toner cartridges, ink cartridges, drums, and all, we deserve to have exactly what we paid for. We may not often give importance to the specifications stated from the packaging of products we purchased, that doesn’t mean we could be tricked. Seriously it should be the other way around – just kidding.

There are several ways from which we can intentionally stretch the limits of our printer’s consumables particularly the toners and inks. If you remember we already featured a few that will help you squeeze out some more prints out a nearly dead cartridge. Yes, nearly dead because basically soon enough you will have to replace it with a new one whether you like it or not.

With our chosen printer model, the HP LaserJet 4730 which comes in four configurations, the method we will provide in here may also work with other HP laser models. Just take note that these tricks won’t save you from buying replacements, because at the end of the day you will have no choice but to get new ones.

Remove and Shake

If the printed results are showing less satisfying qualities like lighter colors, dim hues and gray tones, it’s a sign the HP 4730 toners inside the unit are running low of toner supplies. Based on the title itself, what you will basically do is remove the cartridges out of the unit and give it a gentle-to-hard shake. This will make the toner particles that might build inside the tank to loosen a bit, thus you get more prints.

Black Tape Trick

It’s a very known method, thanks mainly to a concern user who shared his technique to us, hence we can now fight back with that low-toner error message. The trick involves placing a black tape to cover the memory chip sensor from the cartridge with the intent to block the memory tag installed inside the printer from reading the chip. Hence, it is commonly referred to as a bypass method which literally does what it is intended for.

Reduce and Save

So it’s not just about playing with the cartridges to stretch its limit. There’s a simple way to help you save supplies and that is simple by using Draft mode printing and reducing the output resolution of the printer. More often than usual, this error occurs when a recently installed ink cartridge on the HP OfficeJet 8000 printer is defective. The message that will appear on the screen may indicate a missing or damaged cartridge right after the replacement. Another possible reason is maybe you have installed an incompatible model which won’t really work with your unit.

Error Indications

• The LED indicator for each color of HP 940XL ink cartridge is blinking.

• The unit won’t print even if it’s turn ON and has no paper jams.

• An error message appears on the display after installing a new cartridge. Check the items you installed

To resolve the problem, first check if you’re using the right model of supply such as ink and printhead. Using wrong cartridges even if they fit on your printer, it doesn't mean it would work properly and exactly the same as the one mainly intended for it.

Replace what’s missing

If an item is literally missing, then just install the appropriate cartridge. If any of the cartridges in used is running low of ink, the same approach should work on it. Refer on the solution below to replace the inks inside. Before you start, confirm that all the ink cartridges are inside the printer. If yes, then we may have a conclusion that probably one of the inks is low, empty or damaged.

To begin, first turn the printer on and check what color of ink is causing the problem by checking the LED indicators at the upper left side of the unit.

Open the door that covers the cartridges and check the issue. In case there’s no missing cartridge, still you have to remove the cartridge indicated from the error.

Using your thumb and forefinger pull it out and hold on its both sides. Give it a gentle shake near your ear to determine the amount of inks left inside the tank. Is it empty or not? Basically, you will now when you need to install replacements through viewing the ink level notification on your printer’s screen display.

If the item is fine and still full of inks, reseat it back to the machine. Perhaps there’s a miscommunication between the contact from the cartridge and its carriage and re-installing it might solve the error.

Just repeat the steps above with the other cartridges having the same problem. Then close the cover and restart the printer.

If it doesn't resolve the problem, perform a quick printer reset by unplugging the unit from the outlet for less than a minute. Plug it back afterwards and press the power button to turn it on.

First of all, why do you have to reset a printer? Generally, resetting your machine essentially helps improve the printing processes through refreshing it. Let it on for at least one minute and then disconnect its power cable found at the back of the unit.
For your safety, remove the cable as well from its source outlet and let it rest for more than 20 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable on its port from the back afterwards.
Then plug it back into the source outlet (don’t press any key on its control panel even the power button).
Wait if the printer turns itself on and if not then press the power button and see if your concern has been resolved.

Important Reminder: The procedures provided above may or may not work with all HP printer models except for HP Color LaserJet Pro 200 M251NW. However, you can still use it as your guide or reference to reset your unit as long as it manufactured by HP and is a laser type.

Printer toner cartridges are the laser printer’s main consumable, second are the drum units and fuser. Any of the said items may reach its end-of-life or probably cause a technical problem with the printing machine. Thus, it’s always necessary to not only check only the printer but also the supplies that it uses, to at least maintain its good working condition.

But what if the machine encounter’s a problem due to a failure mainly caused by its own consumable? One example of which is the “Toner Cartridge Error”, which may occur for several reasons. The most typical reason why users experienced this specific error with their printer is because of installing the cartridge incorrectly. However, it’s not always the case. Below we’ll discuss more about the possible reasons why it occurs, as well as some recommended solutions to fix it.

Incorrect Cartridge Installation

There is a proper and general process of installing Brother MFC-9340CDW toners. If it’s your first time to replace an empty toner, please refer on the user guide that came with the machine for the right instructions.

Use of Incompatible Cartridge

In the last quarter of 2013, Canon introduced to the market the PIXMA MG7120 Photo AIO printer. It primarily targets home office users through its solid set of features and functionality that are essentially built for basic to intermediate use.

Regular cartridges on the other hand are pricier over the RPCs since they are not bounded to any agreement. However, if the customer would like to return the item for recycling, they can still send it back at no cost at all.

It’s more like they’re mandatory pushing their customers to participate in their recycling program. In a way it’s a good thing, and may be considered a win-win relationship between the manufacturer and the consumer. We get discount for accepting the agreement, while they get they will get what they need from us.

Isn’t it ironic that Lexmark had to do this just to let their customers practice recycling? Although on second thought, if a cartridge has been recycled then it should be more affordable than a branded one. Such that the material used to produce a reprocessed product came from empty cartridges, which are obviously cheaper to utilize for manufacturing new supplies.
