I will never forget the day I was working/volunteering for one of my favorite local festivals, Bohemian Nights at the New West Fest in Fort Collins, CO. The current position I had was door greeter for the VIP Green Room which happened to be nearby the main stage. Even though it’s a volunteer gig, I am rather professional because this is exactly what I love doing and I feel they need good volunteers to help make things run more smoothly; however, someone had opened the door and I caught 5-10 seconds of this hip-hop artist that I had to investigate further.
It’s a current trend for “rock memoirs” to be disbursed in the literary world right now and the musicians not only admit all the details of the illicit interactions but sometimes that follows them to the distribution aspect of the book releases. A bookstore owner in St. Louis feared and pleaded with the female fans who attended the book signing of former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar to not expose themselves when they reached the signing table as he sipped his glass of tequila;
Music concerts and Festivals are a fun-filled and memorable activity for consumers during those hot summer days and warm summer nights! Concerts and festivals are often a result of many months of touring and touring is known as the "top revenue producer for most acts" (Waddell, 2008). However, there are a few problems that the industry needs to address with touring to be able to profit the most from it overall.

Being an avid music obsessee, I have to watch my music video’s in the morning as I get ready for work. So I flop between MTV, VH1 and CMT (especially being they are only a channel away from each other in my area, which is nice ha). So I am familiar with the Save the Music program that VH1 has implemented for years now, but you know how that saying goes about not truly knowing about something until it hits at home? It finally hit at home…
Read more »

Talent Show Phenomenon

          While in search of a proper topic to write about Project and Team management, I had decided to reach out to a couple individuals that would be interesting and knowledgeable. Last summer I had volunteered for a couple local festivals and so I thought I would try to interview with the project manager of one of them. I had come up with some great questions to ask and was very excited about it, when I got an email a couple days after she had accepted to help, and said she was no longer with the organization and could not help me. The other just didn’t respond, so I was left feeling a bit discouraged and didn’t know what I was going to do.

“Stop, collaborate and listen” as made famous by the lyrics of early 90’s rap star Vanilla Ice, little did he know that would become an intriguing reference to my blog 20 years later. The point is, collaboration is not only all around us but a great way to get another perspective or test and re-create your art form. Collaboration is the heart of teamwork and it takes communication, respect and a central vision in order for it to be successful.
Read more »

You can't take this away, technology!

The feeling, the thrill, the pounding of your heartbeat mixed with the pounding of the drums or the strum of a guitar. Most of us have had those moments and the truly great ones are never forgotten. It's true that the technological advances have changed and re-shaped the musical world as we know it, but if there's one thing that it can't change it's the affect of a live performance on a fan.
Read more »
