Hot on the heels of last weeks "Bubblegum Special" comes another

themed show.

This time all the tracks use copious amounts of 'Phasing' or 'Sky-ing'

as it was also known as, back in the day.

I have a pretty substantial collection of phased tracks to share,

so i'll split this particular theme over a couple of shows.

Apologies all round but GHP commitments have been pretty demanding of late... No featured artist this week but we kick things off with The Nazz: Fans of XTC should enjoy hearing their alter-ego's in this weeks show. I've finally dragged out some 'Dukes' and the 'best christmas single that wasn't a hit but bloody well should have been' in their Three Wise Men guise. (cover below) Check the positioning of the red graphic above the 'Thanks For Christmas' lettering of the title on the cover, giving their true identity... As promised here's the video for the Dukes 'Mole From The Ministry' that was aired on 'Whistle Test' in the mid eighties: Also listen out for the 2 tracks by The Fab Four. I think the album was released in 2002. 20 tracks of a Beatles tribute band doing xmas songs in a Beatles (or dare I say 'Rutles') style. Genial stuff. Welcome to Trypshop show 4, what have we got
on offer this week then?Among the 15 tracks we have some seminal 'english' moments
from The Factory and Geranium Pond.
The rarely heard 'The Miracle Of The Age' from Doctor & The
Medics (produced by Andy Partridge no less) and a superb slice
of 'new psych' from the Olivia Tremor Control.

Also got some psych-bubblegum from the delicious
Captain Groovy & His Bubblegum Army (45 sleeve above).
I will be putting together a 'Bubblegum Special' in a couple
of weeks time. You have been warned...
Also a couple of awesome tracks by Fraternal Order Of The All
(pictured) lifted from their 'Welcome To Planet Love' album,
"Space And Time" being a perfect piss-take of the 'winged
rickenbacker kings' it says here...
This is what Colin Allcars from the group did in a previous
incarnation:

Featured artist this week are July.
4 tracks from them seeing as I simply couldn't leave
out 'Hello Who's there' despite most people hating
the track. July released a self titled album in 1968,
which for a while was quite hard to get hold of but
recent reissues have made it available for everyone.
July hailed from Ealing and were led by Tom Newman
who went on to set up Manor studios for Richard Branson
and also engineered Tubular Bells.
'My Clown' and 'Dandelion Seeds' are quite simply Psych
classics of the highest order.

Also plucked for an airing this week is Big Boy Pete's
"Cold Turkey" and as luck would have it, here's a
clip of him doing his stuff:

Fronted by Sky Saxon, their
sound was a raw organ/guitar-led mish-mash of simplistic
riffs which grew progressively psychedelic over a handful
of albums up to 1969.
They most definitely influenced The Doors as much as
Jagger influenced Sky Saxon.
Here's a clip of The Seeds doing 'Mr Farmer' on Shebang
in 1966, check the perfect haircuts and threads:

Of the three tracks I've included in the show, 'Evil Hoodoo'
comes from debut album 'The Seeds' (1966), 'Chocolate River'
was a 'Future' outtake from '67 and 'The Wind Blows Your Hair'
was a non-album a-side from the same year.
You can get all The Seeds albums on '2 for' CD's via Edsel.
'Web Of Sound' and 'Future' are essential listening.

The show is streamed at the bottom of this post and
a download link for mp3 provided also.
Tune in...

Tunes played on Trypshop show 01:
The Craig "I Must Be Mad"
(Rubble One - The Psychedelic Snarl)
Fire "Father's Name Was Dad"
(The British Psychedelic Trip Vol One)One In A Million "Double Sight"
(Chocolate Soup For Diabetics)
