The UVic Bunny Blog

Even though Earth Day has passed

2010-04-24T18:27:00.000-07:00

What a cute little baby near the SUB. Too bad this little guy and his siblings have to wander through discarded trash. Please make sure your garbage makes it into a trash can! It's better for the bunnies and keeps the campus looking like a nice place.

Tip for Today

2010-04-12T18:20:00.000-07:00

Take a moment to enjoy some Bunny Zen before studying for or heading in to take a final. The rabbits aren't hard to find if you're on campus and watching their scampering and worry free eating can be just the medicine to help you focus!

Happy Last Day of Classes!!!

2010-04-08T18:14:00.000-07:00

To help celebrate the last day of classes for this term, here's a joyful song!

To all UVic students, good luck with finals!

I Love Baby Bunny Season!

These babes live under the tree in front of Village Greens!

It's Spring, Baby!

2010-03-30T21:44:00.000-07:00

I know this isn't a UVic baby bunny, but this little guy is so darn cute that I just couldn't resist posting!

Baby Bunny Spottings!

2010-03-28T18:05:00.000-07:00

I snagged a picture of this little one about a week ago with my phone. This was the first UVic baby I saw. This one and some siblings live in the bushes outside the SUB near the entrance closest to Cinecenta.

This adorable family lives behind the library! What a lovely sight before hitting the books!

Where else are there baby buns on campus?

Springtime!

2010-03-25T18:46:00.000-07:00

You always know it's spring when you start seeing baby bunnies popping out!

Spring Has Sprung!

2010-03-09T09:00:00.000-08:00

In spite of the scattered snow showers on Monday, spring is popping up all over the place!

I know these aren't UVic bunnies, but the baby goats in Beacon Hill Park are bouncing all over the petting zoo. If you want an extra dose of cuteness, go to the park to have some fun with pregnant mamas and baby kids.

You know it's March when...

2010-03-02T17:32:00.000-08:00

You know it's March when you see the library bunnies more than your friends.

"Rabbits have a habit of coming for breakfast and staying for lunch. Now there's one leaf instead of a bunch."

Can you spot the bunny?

2010-02-07T12:26:00.001-08:00

Now that the semester is in full swing, it's time for a relaxing round of "Can You Spot the Bunny?"

Just one more week till reading break!

like a dog. Eat like a horse.
Think like a fox.
And play like a rabbit."

Happy Holidays!

2009-12-24T13:50:00.000-08:00

Hoping that everyone is warm, cozy, and relaxed this holiday season!

To all the UVic students out there, enjoy this break before spring semester.

Even the Bunnies are Jumping for Joy!

2009-12-06T13:32:00.000-08:00

YAY! First term classes are over!

Looks like the warren outside the library decided to hold a little celebration!

Now on to writing finals...That celebration was short...

Wishing everyone good luck, good memories, and fast writing on their exams.

Who Needs Ducks in a Row When You've Got Bunnies?

2009-11-26T11:13:00.000-08:00

Approaching the end of the semester means it's again that time of year when students stay up most nights frantically studying to tests, writing papers, and finishing projects. If you need a break from the craziness, just take a few minutes to watch the bunnies frolic and nibble. Even just a moment of looking at these little guys can be very calming.

Good luck to all students all students as we move into final exam period. I hope you get all your bunnies in a row!

How Many Bunnies Can You Spot?

2009-11-19T18:33:00.000-08:00

Bunnies are everywhere on the UVic campus! Look a little closer at this picture; you may find a few more than the ones in front!

A Website and Society to Make Your Heart Melt

2009-11-14T19:44:00.000-08:00

The House Rabbit Society is an international organization that offers information and resources about adopting, caring for, and rescuing rabbits. On their website you can find links to rabbits up for adoption, ways to donate or volunteer, and (my favorite part) the bunny of the month! The bunny of the month has a full page spread of pictures and descriptions. You can even search an archive of past bunnies of the month.

The society also has a blog. The University of Victoria was featured in a post for a not so friendly article in a publication by the Environmental Studies Students detailing how to properly capture and cook a UVic rabbit :-(. But more cheery posts also abound.

If you ever plan a trip to Northern California you can check out the House Rabbit Society headquarters!

A Little Too Friendly?

2009-11-07T18:51:00.000-08:00

No such thing!

But do be careful around the campus bunnies; some like to get up close and personal. If you kneel down or are having a snack outside, don't be surprised if you discover a rabbit at your side willing to climb all over you to get a snack!

Some will let you pet them, but I don't know if I'd recommend that. Remember, even though they are cute and friendly, these are still technically wild animals. Also, they do not have the regular veterinary check-ups or vaccinations that household pets do.

Happy Halloween!

2009-10-30T09:00:00.000-07:00

A rabbit lounging about in the leaves near the entrance to the McPherson Library. Instead of heading out for trick-or-treating right at dusk, come do some bunny watching! Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk. Make sure to keep that in mind if you ever want to get a pet rabbit of your own.

Also, please make sure your candy rappers and beverage containers get thrown in the proper receptacles. Those items don't make great snacks for rabbits.

Devoted Bunny Lover in Victoria

2009-10-25T19:24:00.000-07:00

Wow! This woman is amazing! I admire this woman's heart and tenacity. We can't all single-handedly save the rabbits on the UVic campus like Leslie Sanford, but we can all help support our local humane societies and animal shelters by donating money, food, or supplies. Check your area to find out how to donate to a local shelter, humane society, or check online for how to donate to the SPCA.
