The Ultimate Fighter 14 Cast

The Ultimate Fighter 14 is the first to feature bantamweight (135-pound) and featherweight (145-pound) fighters.

The coaches will be Michael Bisping and Jason Miller. Bisping previously coached for TUF Season 9 while this will be Miller's first.

There will be 32 fighters who will appear on its upcoming season debut on September 21, 2011.

The group of 32 will be cut down to an official cast of 16 following an elimination round of fights. All 16 elimination-round bouts air as part of the two-hour season debut. The tournament format then continues with eight bantamweights and eight featherweights. The show champions are crowned during a live-finale event on December 3.

The oldest cast members are 31 and the youngest 21. The fighters come from countries such as the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Scotland and Sweden. Notable camps include the likes of American Top Team, Team Alpha Male, Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts, the H.I.T. Squad, Wolfslair Academy, Skrap Pack, Lloyd Irvin MMA and others.

UFC on Fox: How will ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Change?

Thursday's landmark announcement that the UFC has a new partnership with the Fox network included the news that the UFC's relationship with Spike TV will end after the upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter." The revamped show will air on Fox's sister network, FX.

Its home is far from the only change that will be made for the reality show that helped kickstart the UFC's popularity but has grown stale as of late. Instead of featuring a taped, edited show with taped fights, the fights will be shown live. Packages from life in the fighter house and training will be cut from the things that happened during the week leading up to each fight.

Also, fans will have a chance to help decide the fights, as they will get to vote on upcoming match-ups. The coaches will conduct their training camps over the 12-week period of the show alongside their fighters, and fight at the end of the season. Over the course of two seasons in a year, 24 live fights will be aired on Friday nights.

Of course, there are plenty of questions that will need to be answered about how the UFC will run the show. Will the finale still be an event, like it has been for the past seasons, or just be a part of the show? Will the fight-in shows still happen, or will the cast be decided by the time the show starts?

It also will ask much of both the contestants and the coaches. The winners of the show will be decided as much by their health and ability to withstand the rigors of the show as their fighting potential. Coaches will have to move their training camps to Las Vegas, where the show is taped. Plenty of fighters like to be cloistered off from the rest of the world during training camp, and the temptations of Sin City could be a bit much to handle during camp. That could limit the pool of fighters who want to serve as coaches.

But those are minor quibbles for a show that lost its must-watch edge years ago. The UFC promised a fresh start with Fox, and the changes to "The Ultimate Fighter" shows that they're headed in the right direction.

Today, UFC President Dana White revealed exclusively to the Underground that middleweight's Michael Bisping and Jason 'Mayhem' Miller will coach the fourteenth installment of the Ultimate Fighter reality show.

Speculation has been spread throughout the MMA world on who would fill the roles, from Chael Sonnen, to Michael Bisping, Georges St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, and more. The position was confirmed to have been gone to Chael Sonnen, but his recent troubles with the California State Athletic Commission seem to have made that impossible.

The 14th season of the Ultimate Fighter is expected to include featherweights and bantamweight, a first for the reality show, and will start filming soon.

The UFC President also confirmed that the two will square off in the cage at a yet to be determined date and event. White said that Miller's scheduled bout with Aaron Simpson for UFC 132 will not take place, but Simpson will get a new opponent.

TUF 14 Begins Production In Las Vegas

Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) officially began production today (June 10, 2011) featuring coaches Michael Bisping and Jason Miller, which is currently slated for a Sept. 21, 2011 debut on Spike TV.

The cable television network made the announcement earlier today.

As per usual, Bisping and Miller, after verbally bashing each other throughout the season, will meet inside the Octagon to physically bash each other on Dec. 3 in Las Vegas.

TUF 14 will feature, for the very first time in the long history of the show, fighters from both the bantamweight and featherweight divisions. In addition, the "elimination" round has returned, which means that 32 hopefuls won't secure a spot on the Spike TV reality show unless they prove victorious on day one.

Speaking of eliminations, the wildcard fights from season's past are just that -- the past.

The fourteenth season of Spike TV's popular original series, The Ultimate Fighter, will feature 32 of the best up-and-coming mixed martial artists in the featherweight and bantamweight divisions competing for a six-figure contract with the preeminent mixed martial organization in the world, the Ultimate Fighting Championship®. This marks the first time these two divisions have been featured on the show. As in prior seasons, 16 of these competitors must win a preliminary bout to gain a place in the Ultimate Fighter House, one step closer to their ultimate goal, whereas the losers of these bouts are sent home.

Bisping, a TUF veteran in every sense of the word (won TUF 3 and coached TUF 9), was always the first choice to coach the show; however, the UFC was hopeful they could put him opposite mouthy ex-Realtor Chael Sonnen and watch the ratings, which have been anemic all throughout season 13, shoot through the roof.

Unfortunately Sonnen's poor standing with both the California and Nevada State Athletic Commission's put an end to all that talk, as he won't even be able to apply for his license again until June 29.

Enter the "Mayhem."

One trash talker's loss is another big mouth's gain, as Miller quickly stepped in to fill the void. And while he's not as electric as Sonnen, he's certainly not short on one-liners.

Not only that, he's accustomed to the whole reality show thing, having been the host of MTV's "Bully Beatdown" for three seasons dating back to March 2009. All the ingredients are there: Controversial? Check. Gimmicky? Check. Can't stop talking? Check.

Oh, and he's a pretty good fighter to boot.

Can a cocky Brit and a goofy American save the once popular Spike TV reality show? Or is it too little, too late for the program that "saved" the UFC? And who wins when the two square off at the conclusion of filming? Time will tell.

Brock Lesnar Out of UFC 131 Due to Diverticulitis

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has had a reoccurrence of diverticulitis and has been forced to withdraw from his June 11 fight against Junior dos Santos in Vancouver.

Lesnar, 33, said he is not planning to retire and is considering his treatment options. Lesnar said during a hastily arranged conference call Thursday that he spent 14 hours undergoing tests and meeting with doctors Wednesday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Surgery is an option, but Lesnar said he is still in the middle of accumulating information.

UFC president Dana White said Shane Carwin will replace Lesnar and will face dos Santos in a No. 1 contender’s match in the main event of UFC 131. Carwin has been training to fight Jon Olav Einemo.

In 2009, Lesnar had to withdraw from a heavyweight title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106, though he was able to return to fight Carwin at UFC 116 on July 3, 2010. Lesnar submitted Carwin in the second round but lost his title to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 on Oct. 23.

Lesnar was training for the dos Santos fight after appearing with him on Spike TV’s reality show “The Ultimate Fighter,” but said he hasn’t been able to train the way he needs to in order to be ready for June 11.

“I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis, at that time not knowing what the problem was,” Lesnar said. “I dodged the bullet by not having the surgery. Diverticulitis is an illness that never goes away. It’s something I’ve dealt with since my first occurrence, and I’ve been battling with it. It’s something that’s in your colon for the rest of your life, and I’ve been able to maintain it to a point where it’s tolerable.

“I was able to go through two training camps – Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez – and made it through those camps without having a bout or any symptoms."

Diverticulitis is a condition of the colon that occurs when pouches form on the colon and become inflamed. The only way to treat them is with antibiotics, or they can be removed by excising a part of the colon. Lesnar said he’s been battling symptoms for the past three months but still hasn’t determined whether or not to have surgery.

He apologized to dos Santos, the UFC and Spike for having to pull out, but said he wasn’t able to train anywhere near the capacity needed to be ready to compete. However, he insisted that he would find a solution and continue his career.

Lesnar said the illness is not as serious as it was in 2009, when the situation became life-threatening, but said it “drains my entire body down.” He said he believed he would be able to find a long-term solution that wouldn’t risk his health but would allow him to resume his career.

“I am forced to make a decision to either have surgery or to deal with this the rest of my life,” Lesnar said. “I’m fighting a different fight here than having to give up a fight on June 11. A lot of things go through your mind as an athlete, especially myself. This is something that has been wearing on me for about a month now. Different thoughts come to your mind, but it wouldn’t be fair to myself, or to my family, or to the people who I have to get into the Octagon with and perform in front of, because I wouldn’t have been 100 percent on June 11. I’m not there now and I had to make a decision this week, to allow the UFC enough time.

“I have enough respect for them. My health is No. 1. My family is No. 1. It was a hard decision. I’m choked up about it, and there is nothing I can do. I’ll tell you one thing: I’m not retiring. This isn’t the end of my fight career.”

Lesnar said he wasn’t able to get himself to 100 percent after his previous problem with diverticulitis and estimated that he was 85 or 90 percent of himself in his bouts with Carwin and Velasquez.

He said he’d adjusted his diet and felt he was handling the problem, which made the reoccurrence more frustrating.

“What’s been so frustrating about this, when this thing came back to bite me in the [behind] here, is that I’ve been just diligent about [following doctor’s orders],” Lesnar said. ” This is my life. I take this very seriously. If you ask anyone about me, I’m very professional when it comes to my fight career. I follow things. I haven’t gotten to where I am today by not being dedicated. I have been very dedicated with my diet. We’ve been doing different things, and new things, and things that have probably carried me this far.”

Lesnar said a normal person can manage it, but because he’s a professional athlete competing at the highest level, he pushes his body harder and asks more of it. He said, “I feel bad to say this, but I’ve been unsuccessful being able to manage this [while still] being an ultimate fighter.”

First International TUF Show Will Be in the Philippines, Dana White Confirms

The Ultimate Fighter is going global. And the Philippines will host the first edition.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement during the press conference for UFC 127: B.J. Penn vs Jon Fitch.

The show has had 12 seasons since it began in 2005 and it helped brought the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to the mainstream.

Says White,

"The Ultimate Fighter is gonna start airing in every country. We’re gonna start doing ‘The Ultimate Fighter UK’, ‘The Ultimate Fighter Canada', ‘The Ultimate Fighter Philippines’. We’re doing it everywhere. This year. I’m pretty sure the first one’s probably gonna be the Philippines.

MMA has a strong following in the Philippines partly due to the popularity of UFC. The Philippines even has a local version of UFC, the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).

Several MMA fighters are also Filipino - Brandon Vera, Mark Munoz and Robbie Lawler among others. Octagon ring girl Arianny Celeste also has Filipino blood.

In this episode, as Lesnar continued to scold his team after Charlie Rader's loss to Ramsey Nijem, Len Bentley came back into the room, and Lesnar questioned his toughness. He said that Chris Cope (the only Team Lesnar fighter to win his bout through four prelimary fights) is the only one that has impressed him so far. Back at the house, Bentley continued to vent his frustration and showed his dislike of Lesnar.

The UFC and Spike are holding an open casting call for mixed martial artists in the 135 and 145 weigh classes for The Ultimate Fighter 14 on March 21 at the Marriott in Newark New Jersey.

Do you want in? Of course you do.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

2. All applicants must have at least 3 PROFESSIONAL MMA fights. (All records will be verified on sherdog.com & mixedmartialarts.com). If we cannot verify your record on either of these sites you will NOT be considered.

3. All applicants must complete & sign the application.

The UFC and Spike TV held open tryouts on November 4th, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The casting call went out for Welterweight and Middleweight fighters, however, all fighters will be in the welterweight division.

All fighters applying and trying out for the show must have at least three professional fights and be at least 21 years of age.

Notables who turned up to the tryouts included Karl Amoussou, Andre Galvao, and Zak Cummings.

The suspense is finally over for the “Ultimate Fighter” season 13 as former champion Brock Lesnar and top contender Junior Dos Santos have been tapped as coaches for the reality show.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement during a media conference call on Tuesday.

Lesnar’s appearance on the “Ultimate Fighter” could bring the biggest ratings ever for the long running Spike TV show, as he has already been tagged as the largest pay-per-view draw in the UFC.

The former heavyweight champion has been out of sight since his UFC 121 loss to current title holder Cain Velasquez in October.

Opposing Lesnar on the show and eventually a fight will be Junior Dos Santos, who comes into the show as an undefeated contender in the UFC.

Dos Santos was originally going to face Velasquez for the belt in 2011, but an injury forced the champion to the sidelines for at least half of the year.

Filming for the reality show will begin later this month and debut on Spike TV on March 30.

With four consecutive losses for his team, coach Josh Koscheck is in a contemplative mood at the outset of Episode 5.

He insists that their system works. After all, they have Jon Fitch, Cain Velasquez (who will fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 121) and Mike Swick.

Fitch drops by at the team training to share some knowledge. A Muay Thai expert who goes by the name of Jean Charles Skarbowsky meanwhile was at Team GSP beating up the fighter.. while drunk.

But no visitor was bigger than UFC Legend Chuck"The Iceman" Liddell who tells of his knockout loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 115 and almost saying that it's time to say goodbye to the Octagon.

And yes, Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres is still doing his job as this season's Jamie Yager.

On to this episode's fight: it's Team GSP's Spencer Paige up against Team Koscheck's Nam Phan.

To cut it short, Nam Phan defeated Spencer Paige via decision. Paige suffered a broken hand and foot in the fight.

Finally, Team Koscheck wins their first fight!

So, at the end of Episode 5, it's Team GSP 3, Team Koscheck 1.
