Q: I would like to ask if this seminar is product related (dealing with a specific product to sell) or does this cover general information?

A: The only products that will be discussed in Cebu will be the product that you will sell. No idea what to sell? We'll discuss that too. It's a starter's workshop.

There's no "general information" here. It's very specific to creating an online business the way I did it. You cannot find this information in a single book. It's experience based presentation.

You can however get the ideas and lessons from reading around 30 business and marketing books plus attending something like 20 big name seminars here and aboard. I think that'll be enough. Yes, the benefit of my experience will be yours in this workshop.

Q: Internet marketing requires a business in mind and then the training would probably help augment an existing business through the internet by advertising or online selling. But what if one does not have a business yet?

A: Exactly the kind of person we invite. If you don't have a business yet, this workshop is ideal. If you don't have an idea, then this workshop is ideal.

Q: Does the training provide some tips on which specific business is profitable to venture through internet marketing?

A: Yes, concrete information on what will sell online profitably is included in the workshop.

Q: Would also like to know if this training would cover any specific software/online tool for website making.

A: Yes, the actual websites you need to use will be discussed. Note that this is not a HANDS ON workshop (since it discusses how to start) so no internet time is required.

One man business yes it says that but companies in Mashable, Techcruch etc -- are not one man groups. They're companies. The practice of writing business plans behind napkins is very tech startup.

Zuckerberg? He's the founder of Facebook. He's now got an old school web company.

Real one man gigs like me - with only Virtual Assistants in tow - is the FUTURE.

Another one man gig are those who made millions creating and selling IPHONE apps. This is not mentioned in the song.

What was mentioned as a 1 man gig is a youtube channel owner but no mention as to who they're talking about.

How you can build your digital products to sell (mini-workshop)

Yes, I know you're frustrated at how "slow" earning is using Google Adsense. For some of you, you don't even have an approved account yet so you're just there waiting, waiting.

Totally Spoiler Full Iron Man 2 Trailer reveals too much.

The newest Tony Stark Movie spills too much about the cool devices of the movie you'd wonder --are people going to be wowed by the movie any more or not?

Below are the things to expect in the movie.

You'd see them quickly in the trailer but in these days of still frames and screenshots - here they are:

Scarlett Johanssen stars as an "accountant" that does KungFu:

So unless this is a CLONE, we already know she's like 007's bond girls.

Deadly and Beautiful. So remove one surprise element.

The setting will not be an asian country like in the first movie (afganistan), instead it's going to be the island nation of Monaco, in the Mediterrainean - where they hold the Grand Prix (Formula 1 Racing).

I thought they would be using Macau or Singapore for the F1, but it's another Europe destination, I'm afraid. No,scratch that, I'm NOT afraid. Just looking forward to the next James Bond film.

The villain, perhaps is this Whiplash. In the Iron Man : Armored Adventures, he looks like the picture above. But in the movies, he's Mickey Rourke and very very dirty reggae looking:

Here's a shot of Whiplash in the Grand Prix race tracks, behind him are the old-dirty-like buildings of Monaco. That's why I thought it was Macau in the first place.

Up closer, you can see he has the same WHITE LIGHT CHEST as Iron Man.

What he has a shrapnel also in his heart and this electromagnet is keeping him alive?

Dunno much about the Mythology of Iron Man. I do know that Larry King in this movie will be played by Hugh Hefner, I mean Stan Lee in one of his memorable cameos!

As if it's more interesting, here's Whiplash's Back.

If you're still reading, see how much stuff I can write based on a TRAILER that's readily available on YOUTUBE, giving me an excuse to put in MORE and MORE keywords about the upcoming Iron Man 2 Movie in April 2010. In true spoiler fashion, revealed here in the Iron Man 2 Trailer 2 are the prototype armored Sentinels (I made that up) that Iron Man and War Machine *Don Cheadle is Tony Stark's Friend and co-armored man*. Whiplash will soon don an eyeglass and become the dirty reggae scientist who will make these machines work. See him in the center, between the Emperor and Darth Vader. Nacht.

Of course, Iron man has his own ROGUE's gallery of old armors. All of which I suspect will be used in this movie as IRON MEN goes against IRON MEN. Or maybe use a remote control as in the comics.

Yes, I was able to read the War Machine comics.

So what's the point? I like this movie and it's totally simple to get info and keywords from a trailer. Isn't it ? But Jomar, I don't know how to do SCREENSHOTS? Then google "How to screenshot in Windows" and you're all set. I bet there's even a program (grabitpro) you can use. Hint Hint.

So here's another surprise --the new machines (or armor) that Tony Stark will battle are made by the military and - has a gatling gun (behind his back). And the others, have large rocket launchers over their shoulders (like the first Warmachine in the comics). Oh and they carry backpacks - why is that? Can't they just screw those things on without using metal straps?

Hehe.

The emperor doing a Tony Robbins style go go go speech in front of his armored creations.

Happy with the spoiled surprises? Here's more. Iron man fights with an anonymous armor in his own fighting room (dojo?).

And yes, this one has a white round chest too. What was that called? So this is probably a drone trainer armor, like the ones Darth Vader uses for training (yes Darth Maul uses them too).

Samuel Jackson, Nick Fury - agent of SHIELD is again here. Doing absolutely NOTHING, I suppose. Though I do think that if SHIELD comes around with a flying fortress aircraft carrier, to rescue IRON MAN converting this IRON MAN 2 into a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie that would be AWESOME!

Q&A: Your Total Cost of Running an Internet Home Based Business

Q: Ok, the one year fee (for online mentoring)---though a lot of money for ordinary Pinoy worker in Australia yet I can make both end meets just to get started.

However, my big concern are the other related expenses that will be incurred just to begin in this internet marketing business. Can you please give me a glimpse of those needed facilities and how much to really get started, e.g., set up domain account, clickpay account, traffic tracking account, etc., etc.

A: Rey, thanks for your question. I'll be answering it formally in a presentation but in short... here are the costs:

1. Time in front a computer = depends on your salary/hour x hours you spend in front of machine
2. Internet access = depends on your country and plan, aussies don't have unlimited plans do they?
3. PC = do you have one or are you renting?
4. You wont use paid domain names
5. You won't use paid hosting
6. You won't pay for traffic
7. If you're up to it, $29/monthly for the autoresponder or use the free feedburner.com
8. Electricity - depends on your computer (extra AUD20 a month?)
9. You don't buy membership into any other kind of club or website except the online mentoring.
10. Virtual Assistants (VA), if you can afford them they're around $13/hour. However if you can't --the VA is you.

So low-range:

internet access + electricity + pc rental + your time

So hi-range:

internet access + electricity + pc rental + your time + autoresponder $29/monthly + $13/hour VA

I know this probably will come as a shock, but I try to keep expenses in running the business --to a minimum. So I hope that's a pleasant shock.

But let me tell you, from experience the most expensive expense is you managing your time to actually learn and apply. Don't ever leave that out. In the online club, I have a sari-sari (variety store) co-owner about to launch a digital product. Guess why? She (Lorinda De Guzman) took the time to do it. :) How? Just followed my instructions.

Last Feb 2010 workshop in Cubao, I invited EVERYONE to my houseblessing in Taguig - hmm. Only 4 people came! Thanks Nene and Ensha. They had companions so technically, only 2 people arrived. Thus Ensha and Nene were blessed by a personal testimony from Joyce Ann Burton - Titular (Adventuresofabeautyqueen.wordpress.com) on how radio stations in the philippines were more advanced than in other countries in regards to online promotion.

Joyce is part of the TheEdgeRadio (they play Christian Music Radio in Asia and online). If you were in one of my workshops, you would have seen a video of her talking about her blog getting a daily 100% boost of visitors after applying the "keyword" lesson. The what lesson, Jomar? Look at my blog and check out the "images" quiz and read all the 30+ comments and you'll get the lesson also.

I posted a message on Twitter yesterday stating I thought The Beastie Boys and TopSpin Media "got it right" regarding how to sell music in this day and age. Here's a link to their store:

Shortly thereafter, I got some responses from people stating the usual "yeah, if you're an established artist - what if you're just trying to get heard?" argument. In an interview I did recently this topic came up and I'll reiterate what I said here.

If you are an unknown / lesser-known artist trying to get noticed / established:

* Establish your goals. What are you trying to do / accomplish? If you are looking for mainstream super-success (think Lady GaGa, Coldplay, U2, Justin Timberlake) - your best bet in my opinion is to look at major labels and prepare to share all revenue streams / creative control / music ownership. To reach that kind of critical mass these days your need old-school marketing muscle and that only comes from major labels. Good luck with that one.

If you're forging your own path, read on.

* Forget thinking you are going to make any real money from record sales. Make your record cheaply (but great) and GIVE IT AWAY. As an artist you want as many people as possible to hear your work. Word of mouth is the only true marketing that matters.

To clarify:

Parter with a TopSpin or similar or build your own website, but what you NEED to do is this - give your music away as high-quality DRM-free MP3s. Collect people's email info in exchange (which means having the infrastructure to do so) and start building your database of potential customers. Then, offer a variety of premium packages for sale and make them limited editions / scarce goods. Base the price and amount available on what you think you can sell. Make the packages special - make them by hand, sign them, make them unique, make them something YOU would want to have as a fan. Make a premium download available that includes high-resolution versions (for sale at a reasonable price) and include the download as something immediately available with any physical purchase. Sell T-shirts. Sell buttons, posters... whatever.

Have a realistic idea of what you can expect to make from these and budget your recording appropriately.

The point is this: music IS free whether you want to believe that or not. Every piece of music you can think of is available free right now a click away. This is a fact - it sucks as the musician BUT THAT'S THE WAY IT IS (for now). So... have the public get what they want FROM YOU instead of a torrent site and garner good will in the process (plus build your database).

The Beastie Boys' site offers everything you could possibly want in the formats you would want it in - available right from them, right now. The prices they are charging are more than you should be charging - they are established and you are not. Think this through.

The database you are amassing should not be abused, but used to inform people that are interested in what you do when you have something going on - like a few shows, or a tour, or a new record, or a webcast, etc.

The role of an independent musician these days requires a mastery of first hand use of these tools. If you don't get it - find someone who does to do this for you. If you are waiting around for the phone to ring or that A & R guy to show up at your gig - good luck, you're going to be waiting a while.

This looks excellent to me. I have not used it but it appears to be great. This would cover your digital distribution of files and the collecting / amassing of your database. Looks like you'd still need someplace to handle fulfillment of merchandise / physical goods (like the Amazon link above).

Pay-what-you-want model

This is where you offer tracks or albums for a user-determined price. I hate this concept, and here's why.

Some have argued that giving music away free devalues music. I disagree. Asking people what they think music is worth devalues music. Don't believe me? Write and record something you really believe is great and release it to the public as a "pay-what-you-think-it's-worth" model and then let's talk. Read a BB entry from a "fan" rationalizing why your whole album is worth 50 cents because he only likes 5 songs on it. Trust me on this one - you will be disappointed, disheartened and find yourself resenting a faction of your audience. This is your art! This is your life! It has a value and you the artist are not putting that power in the hands of the audience - doing so creates a dangerous perception issue. If the FEE you are charging is zero, you are not empowering the fan to say this is only worth an insultingly low monetary value. Don't be misled by Radiohead's In Rainbows stunt. That works one time for one band once - and you are not Radiohead.

Why put something on iTunes for a price fans can get it from your site for free? Won't it piss people off?

Do it and don't worry about it. Lots of people apparently shop at iTunes exclusively and that's where they get their music. They are generally not the people that would be mad to discover they could have gotten the same record (at a better bit-rate) for free elsewhere. We put The Slip up at nin.com for free at all fidelities and STILL sold a fairly large amount of copies at iTunes for $9.99. At the time iTunes did not allow variable pricing (I don't know what the deal is now).

My Flash comments

I don't hate Flash, just go easy on it and avoid anything that takes time to load - ESPECIALLY your front page.

Managers / booking agents / small labels

Any or all of these may be good for you - or not. Here's a truth: nobody knows what to do right now, me included. The music business model is broken right now. That means every single job position in the music industry has to re-educate itself and learn / discover / adapt a new way. Change can be painful and hard and scary. If any of these entities we're discussing are interested in you, ask them about their strategies IN DETAIL. None of them know for sure what to do. Some of them have an idea of how to negotiate these waters. Most of them don't. If you are young and use the internet, you know more about your audience than they do - for sure. This is a revolution and you can be a part of it. The old guard is dying, if you have good ideas - try them.

Bottom line - before getting involved with anyone else, ask yourself what it is they can clearly bring to your table and is it worth their cut. Do they know what they're talking about, and does their strategies match yours?

I have not gotten into the basics which I believe are self-evident: believe in what you do, do the best work you can, work hard, practice, practice more, find your voice, hone in on it, take chances, play live (if applicable), practice more, keep believing in yourself and prepare for the long haul.

That's how you should use image filenames in making your blog more popular than the usual.

Don't worry if you don't do this, most people and companies (specially companies) do not know this.

If you see a mix of "list of problems" in the comments, that's okay. That's the start of another project I'm starting for you all. So what is it? Create a long list of your personal problems. Make sure it's a list and not paragraphs. We'll be using that in a future exercise. Participate so you can benefit from this exercise for free!

Dear Jomar,

I was probably the last one to sign up for the workshop. I was
hesitant because I was not sure if the seminar will be worth the money
I paid for. I also have no knowledge about what I am getting into
like what the topic is all about ( I mean, internet marketing is very
broad ) although I do have some knowledge about the internet. I
signed up the day before the workshop and the assignment was sent to
me that night. ( not beckie's fault, in fact I think she rushed it for
me and hoped I will at least have the night to review). It was only in
the morning before the workshop that I was able to read my email and I
was really alarmed because I was not ready! In fact I was nervous on
the first day pero I told myself bahala na.

The first day I was really “nangangapa” and aside from that I am not
into blogging! So I thought that I probably made the wrong decision
signing up. However, the next day was a bit better than the first
kahit na i still was not 100% ready.

I just finished doing the assignment yesterday (LOL). And will start
reviewing the usb and the workbook today. The assignment was really
great - if only I had the time to read it before the workshop. And
because of this I am looking forward to understanding the usb and the
workbook even more.

Here are my comments:

1. I wish that the people who are going to attend the future
workshops will be informed that there will be an assignment and that
they need to sign up at least 3 days before the workshop so that they
will be ready for the event. The reason I signed up late was that I
had some worries but prayed that if there is still some slot for me on
the last day, then it is god’s will that I go. ( blaming god, ha !
hahahaha)

2. I wish to thank the facilitators for being friendly and patient
and so willing to help. Please let them know that I really appreciate
their support.

3. the assignment that was given is really good – assignment pa lang
yon ha! It is really easy to follow kahit na I am slow at doing it.
Sayang I did not sign up earlier so I can be ready for the workshop.

4. I will start reviewing today. Like what you said in the workshop,
we need to practice practice practice to get the most out of the
workshop.

Your workshop is lively and very informative. It opened my eyes to
the boundless opportunities that the internet is offering. i will
try to put into practice what I had learned. I know there will be
people like you who will be there to support me all the way.

I agree with you. It is the positive attitude and the perseverance
that really counts. It is having a goal and working towards that goal.

Why you shouldn't have any TV at home (and what you should have instead)

I didn't know that my statement about not having TV (I mentioned it because we watched a film at home last Valentine's) - would get a "shocked" reaction from anyone. Anyway some people told me - "You don't have TV?" "How do you get the news?" "I can't do that at home, my kids wake up to TV and sleep on TV!", "How about the maids, what do they watch?"

My response of course is a shrug along the lines of "For the many years I've read the news papers, browsed them and never really got any solid lessons from what I read - same with TV."

As bestselling life design author Tim Ferris said "It's best to just ask select friends "What's happening in the world that I need to know?"". I bet most of the time, the answer will be "nothing" really, Tim".

But Tim's book isn't the reason we don't have TV -it's just that the only thing "nice" to watch is Discovery Travel and Living. How about you? What do you watch on tv? You can leave comments in my blog if you want to share good shows. Regarding the stuff on AXN (action shows), it turns out that those are too violent and crime ridden (CSI comes to mind) that again I said "From watching years of rape, robbery, grand crimes and murder - I really didn't learn much goodness apart from "crime doesn't pay", have I?". So I simply stopped watching and got (original) VCDs of Hannah Montana instead - plus I tried to look for more well written comedies for TV.

So yes, I've no TV but there are lots of video options (plus books!) at home. Comedy movies, tv shows and the like. What will your children watch? The videos that you chose to buy - when you buy them. They like to repeat anyway, so let them repeat the shows they like via DVD player and a computer monitor (that's what we use) or your "old" tv.

Oh hidden benefit not having a TV: a 27 inch TV is way more expensive than a 27 inch computer monitor -but they're the same size, company and quality - so keep this in mind when you go buying a TV again.

The good thing from not having TV is: out goes the budget for that big screen TV, monthly cable subscription and monthly magazine/newspaper budget but yes you'll have to buy your own videos or simply rely on youtube (or the soon to arrive international "free tv shows" hulu.com or a competitor).

Somebody also mentioned that but her "maid"/"mother" watches wowowee and she simply can't make her stop or she'll get depressed etc. I disagree, if the promised power outages come to your house every lunch, nobody's going to catatonic because they don't have their fix of "wowowee". But ultimately, what you believe in, will happen....so you decide! :)
So why am I saying this "no TV" rule? Easy, again quoting from the Four Hour Work Week (the book), most of the inhabitants of 2010 need an information fast because there's too much information coming at you. Getting rid of one or two sources (TV and newspapers) gives you more time to pursue your dreams or to at least THINK about them.

Internet Marketing is about reaping the benefits of your actions. But without action, what do you expect to reap? I know the feeling of being overwhelmed, of having lots of great ideas but no action because of fear - sure -but most of the time - it's not fear. More like "I simply can't find the time and CSI:MIAMI is the only break I get for a whole weeks' stressful work!". That's called an excuse and it's time you tell yourself you deserve BETTER than Crime Scene Investigation as a "reward".
Think about it, consider it.

TV Fast.
No TV.
Sell your TV
Get a large computer monitor instead.
Connect it to the DVD player.

And breath a sigh of relief-suddenly there's more time for talk, books, actions, your family.

Online Marketing Books You Might Want to Consider. Ok, okay, wrong title! But these are books I'm considering buying online. After Leny (who flew in from Bacolod to join in the weekend workshop that I conducted in Cubao) showed me her copy of "Online Marketing Heroes: And Interview of the 25 Online Marketing People"- I borrowed it overnight and went through it. A variety of people, but mostly employees or owners or founders of big internet companies. Not the usual suspects you would expect in an online marketing book. But nevertheless, I see some good ideas and good stories here so I decided to get my own copy.
