This box was my grandmother's. It is from Unity, Sask. Canada. As you can see from the front label. The top of the box explains the Legend of Dogwood, how it was the wood used for the cross that Jesus carried to his crucifixion.

In 2006 the Broken Biscuits group were given a slot in the performance tent at Unity Day in Woodhouse Moor, Hyde Park, Leeds.

There was art work on display by the following artists:
Amy Warren - paintings
Dan Walls - moving toy sculptures and films
Alicia Talikowska - films
Wisdomtooth & Kieran - live music
Lorna - created the opportunity for audience participation by providing paints and fabric to paint on

Bob Marley was a powerful voice of reason that carried the torch of the African Unity message, like Haile Selassie and Marcus Garvey before him, he spoke and sang tirelessly this important message which is still relevant to all Africans both home and abroad. All mankind would benefit significantly form a united and prosperous Africa. It is now time for Africans to rekindle that flame once more.

The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa, on signature of the OAU Charter by representatives of 32 governments. A further 21 states have joined gradually over the years, with South Africa becoming the 53rd member on 23 May 1994.

The OAU aims to promote the unity and solidarity of African States; co-ordinate and intensify their co-operation and efforts to achieve a better life for the peoples of Africa; defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence; eradicate all forms of colonialism from Africa; promote international co-operation, giving due regard to the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and co-ordinate and harmonise members’ political, diplomatic, economic, educational, cultural, health, welfare, scientific, technical and defence policies.

Since the entry into force of the Abuja Treaty establishing the African Economic Community (AEC) in May 1994, the OAU has been operating on the basis of two legal instruments. For this reason the OAU is officially referred to as the OAU/AEC.

Another shirt design for WILDLEEK...
For this one they gave me a list of translations for the word Unity/as one and wanted me to form them into some organic typographic mass. I tried not to use too many hard edges and keep loose and fun.
This is the citrusy colorway.
