Believe it or not, a beach wedding is not any easier to plan than a traditional church wedding – in fact, in many respects, it may be more difficult.  While they may look quite simple to the casual observer, beach weddings are actually quite complicated events.  Here are some of the major factors to consider when thinking about holding a beachfront wedding:

Perfect Tide Timing – Tides rise and fall according to their own timetables. Thankfully, the schedules are fairly predictable, even though there may be some day-to-day changes. Be sure to find out when the tides are typically in and out before scheduling your wedding. Otherwise, you could be in for a rude wedding day awakening.

Minding Mother Nature – The last thing you want is to be forced to move your wedding at the last minute because a hurricane is blowing through the area. While you might not know the exact moment when Mother Nature’s wrath might strike, you can at least work to avoid holding your wedding during hurricane season. Since, though, there is always the possibility of rain, be sure to have a rain plan ready. For instance, you might choose a covered patio or a gazebo as an alternative location for your festivities.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a gorgeous day for your wedding, you’ll also want to practice some sun-sense. Brides should lather on the sunscreen, and you might even want to provide little bottles of sun protection to each of your guests. Also, choose to hold your wedding at a time of day when the sun is most merciful, so that you won’t be squinting through your wedding photographs. In addition, don’t forget to plan for the wind – make sure you have little weights on your veil to prevent it from flying into your face.

Overcoming the Ocean’s Roar – The ocean is certainly scenic, but it can actually rival a factory floor in terms of noise. Therefore, it is absolutely critical that you have a PA system in place so that the minister, bride, and groom can all be heard. Amplified sound can be challenging, though, since electricity can be tough to come by on the beach. The solution may be using your own generator or using extra-long extension cords so that you can get power where you need it.

Avoiding Foolish Footwear – It’s unthinkable for some women to arrive at a special event without their trusty heels. But, when you have to contend with sand, wearing high heels is a fashion faux pas. In fact, it can be a safety hazard, particularly for those who are older or who have physical limitations. It’s best, then, to advise guests to wear sandals or flip-flops – you can include a reminder right on the wedding invitation.

Occupying Your Youngest Guests – For children, beach time usually means play time. Therefore, it can be virtually impossible for them to stop scampering about when the ocean beckons. To help occupy little guests and keep them from becoming a distraction, why not provide each child with his or her own bucket and shovel? That way, you can direct their energies toward something entertaining – but quiet!

Private Beaches Are Best – You may like the idea of sharing your special day with the world, but the rest of the world can be quite loud and distracting.  If you hold your wedding on a public beach, you will have to contend with the possibility of some unwelcome distractions. Consider contacting a realtor to see if you can rent a property that will give you access to a private beach. That way, you’ll also have a place for members of the bridal party to stay the night before the big event.

Consider Cost – Contrary to popular belief, beach weddings may not be any less expensive than weddings at other locales. You’re still likely to want traditional wedding amenities, such as a fabulous reception for entertaining your guests. Also, you still might want to hire a wedding planner to make sure that your wedding day runs smoothly.

Finally, beach weddings can certainly seem an attractive option for brides who like thinking out-of-the-box.  Just keep in mind all the variables that can detract from such a lovely wedding portrait, and plan accordingly.

Certainly, one of the biggest decisions you’ll have to make is what your budget will be. Are you prepared to spend tens of thousands of dollars for your big event? Or are you trying to keep costs low? If you are among those who would like to have a fun wedding, but not spend a fortune, you may want to reduce costs by opting against a traditional wedding cake and choosing festive wedding cupcakes instead.

There is little doubt that you can save money by selecting cupcakes. Rather than spending the $4 or $5 per slice which is customary with a cake, you could spend as little as $1 or $2 per cupcake. That’s a sizeable chunk of change, especially when every cent counts.

Fortunately, cupcakes can be every bit as glamorous as a cake. For instance, you can top them with sugar flowers of either royal icing or gum paste. Monogrammed hearts are an innovative, but possibly more expensive option. Stars and butterflies are perfect for nature-lovers. Old-fashioned sprinkles in your official wedding colors are a fabulous Technicolor option. Keep in mind that you will need a cupcake stand, but you can purchase one for less than $40. You can also bake your own wedding cupcakes – another way to substantially cut costs.

As Linda Kick of the Cupcakery in Dublin, Ohio, told the Columbus Dispatch, “Serving cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake can save newlyweds a bundle.” Not only are cupcakes less expensive than traditional cakes, but you don’t have to pay a $1 per slice cake-cutting fee.

Besides cost, there are numerous other advantages to using cupcakes. For the calorie-conscious, a cupcake may be less fattening than a slice of traditional wedding cake. You also don’t have to worry about fancy utensils for cutting and serving – each cupcake comes ready-to-eat! Cupcakes can also help to rekindle that child-like wonder which can add an element of fun to your wedding. They’re informal, cute, and irresistible!

When it comes to best practices for wedding cupcakes cakes, you’ll first want to choose your favorite flavor cake mix, then add almond or mint extract to customize the flavor. Or you might want to try a premium cake base such as carrot cake or red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. Tiered cupcakes can definitely complement your wedding theme – you can arrange them in a design that suits your personal style. You might also want to use a motif out of marzipan to enhance the basic design.

Perhaps one of the best-known connoisseurs of wedding cupcakes is music sensation Carrie Underwood.  As the country icon told CMT Radio Live’s Cody Alan, “We’re kind of doing cupcakes (for our wedding.)  I consider myself a very traditional person. More than anything, we’re going to get married, that’s the most important part. And we want everyone to have a good time, so we’re doing some things like that, that are a little bit different.”

This year we are talking bold, we are talking bright, and by all means you can add in a few other pastel colors to this mix also. Think vibrant reds for wedding gowns and bold turquoise accents. Let’s have a look at some of the top color schemes for this year, 2010.

Wedding gowns? If you want to make a really bold statement and your own character is perhaps leaning towards that of being loud and central stage on every occasion, then you may be happy to learn that black is still very much leading the way with current trends. Although black was popular on the Paris walkways a couple of years back, its still very much the in-thing. Consider black with lace and pearl embellishments – a great choice for the very fashion-conscious bride! Or, why not think about a white dress with black piping or perhaps black embroidery. Now, don’t you think that would create a stir in the church on your special day?

In fact, right now the big thing is for a romantic inclination and princess-like adornment, where the whole skirt or even the whole gown is decorated with cascades of netting and tulle. Those types of sheer fabrics merely add texture and a beautiful sense of fairytale-like qualities. Pure and simple!
