Per usual, there’s a wide assortment of music to please you and tease you–future soul, jazz, funky breaks, house, and even some heavy ragga/dub biz. So hope you enjoy the music. Hold tight, because there’s still plenty of freshness to sort through, along with some musical surprises during July.

Gonna dedicate this week’s show to my stepdad, who was declared brain dead a few days ago. While I’ve only spent a relatively short amount of time with him when I was much younger, and therefore I wasn’t very close to him, I do have some good memories of him. The one thing I knew was that he was silky smooth singer who probably could have pursued it if he wanted to.

Summertime is in full swing here in California, and these days the weather is very much agreeable with the Mediterranean climate of San Luis Obispo. Wherever you are in the world, I hope that life is treating you well and good.

Just as I was about to present to you this week’s show last week, Michael Jackson passed away. I would have been remiss to not give the talented entertainment a proper tribute, and so it was. To catch the show, be sure to look for last week’s three-hour MJ tribute now online.

And now here it is, Part Two of the Halfway Rewind Special. The focus this week is on the singles & EP’s that were released so far this year, and there’s been plenty of them played on the show in 2009. The tough part always come down to narrowing the list to the ones that I feel are standouts. They don’t necessarily have to be innovative or groundbreaking, though some of the picks came close. And given that it was a three-hour broadcast, even then the full list would have had to embody at least three more hours to fit them all in. So just like last week, at the end of the playlist you will find the other EP’s and singles that didn’t fit in due to time limitations. Whether you put them on your favorite mp3 player, or add them to your essential tunes to spin out at a gig, hopefully you will give your props by supporting these talented acts.

Next week, the show is back on track with lots and lots of fresh new music. Also this month: a guestmix, maybe two, and some surprises as well. So hold on; it’s going to be a great month for music on the show.

As ever, look for the show on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter.

Catch you later this week; peace.

As I listen back to the Michael Jackson tribute special recorded live well over a week ago, I marvel at just how well the tunes hold up in 2009. There are no fillers here; these are all really good tunes. It doesn’t matter if it’s way back when with the Jackson 5 and the background talents of The Corporation, or if it was with The Jacksons with the soul uber-producers Gamble and Huff, or if it’s MJ himself with Q, affectionately nicknamed for the legendary Quincy Jones, the various productions pushed the bounds of what pop and soul music was supposed to be.

Michael Jackson was certainly an entertainer that has pushed through one boundary after another. In his four decades as a talent to be reckoned with, from being the lead vocalist of the Jackson 5 to just about owning the world with the record-breaking success of his album Thriller, he did no wrong in percolating the right ingredients for surefire party jams, or even heartfelt ballads, that stirs many an emotion to this day.

So when the news broke on Thursday July 25th that Michael Jackson had passed away, it was too unbelievable to be true. So unbelievable it was, that the Internet was abuzz in speculation for several hours. Eventually, the truth was known that the once King of Pop was pronounced dead at age 50.

Say what you will about the last 10-15 years of his turbulent life, fueled by plenty of media speculation that has taken his career downward in a big way, few on earth can deny the massive musical legacy that Michael Jackson has left us. And just as he was on the verge of a major comeback that would have had him perform 50 shows at London’s O2 Arena, what we now are left with is the music.

So in lieu of Part Two of the Halfway Rewind Special, a three-hour musical retrospective of MJ, from the breakout songs alongside his brothers collectively known as the Jackson 5, through his extremely fruitful solo collaboration with Quincy Jones, comes some of the best works. Not much here in terms of remixes (except a couple) or rarities, and that’s okay. In the end, it’s about saluting the talents of one of the most formidable entertainers in the history of music.

Here’s hoping that you enjoy the show, the quotes…all of it.

Rest in peace, MJ.

It’s that time again…mid-June.

And long-time listeners know what to expect at this time of the year. It’s time to take a look back at the music that I most recommend to listeners for the year so far. You’ve heard plenty of good music here, and it’s time to put the spotlight on the select ones for you to consider, and then (hopefully) add them to your music collection.

It’s the Halfway Rewind Special, split in two parts. This week focuses on the albums, and next week’s show will be on the singles and EP’s. Of course, there’s more music than is able to fit, and this is a three-hour show this week mind you. Be sure to check the list of albums that would have fit the playlist, had there been more time to be had, that can be found below the playlist.

Be sure to tune in next week, and the singles and EP’s will get their just due. Meanwhile, enjoy this one!

Peace.

And long-time listeners know what to expect at this time of the year. It's time to take a look back at the music that I most recommend to listeners for the year so far. You've heard plenty of good music here, and it's time to put the spotlight on the select ones for you to consider, and then (hopefully) add them to your music collection.

It's the Halfway Rewind Special, split in two parts. This week focuses on the albums, and next week's show will be on the singles and EP's. Of course, there's more music than is able to fit, and this is a three-hour show this week mind you. Be sure to check the list of albums that would have fit the playlist, had there been more time to be had, that can be found below the playlist.

Be sure to tune in next week, and the singles and EP's will get their just due. Meanwhile, enjoy this one!

Peace.

And as if that wasn’t enough, I have for you an exclusive Urban Landscapes Guestmix from Nick Woodmansky of Emanative. If you’ve been listening to the show, you know that I’ve been taken by the production quality of the UK-based outfit known as Emanative. Nick is the main person behind the project, backed by a talented roster that includes Ben Hawten and Jessica Lauren; a true labor of love that we are all fortunate to hear and savor. The full-length debut from Emanative, “Space,” was released not long ago on Futuristica Music, and Nick was kind enough to put together an exclusive mix for the show. I’m glad to share it with you, and I’m very appreciative of Nick for taking the time from his busy schedule to concoct the mix.

So enjoy the mix, the music, and the week; catch you again next week!

The weather has been mild here in San Luis Obispo, yet the sun managers to make its way out after the overcast is cleared and blue skies can be seen as far as the eye can see.

I still have an insane amount of great music to sort through; some that deserve more attention, but plenty of new ones being played for the first time on the show. Fans of the show, I think, will enjoy this week’s selection.

In the mix this week, the Urban Landscapes Guestmix coming from Richard Dorfmeister. If you’ve been a long-time fan of electronic music, particulary downtempo, then you know that Dr. Rich, as he’s affectionately called, needs no introduction. The mix coincides with the release of Tosca’s new full length for !K7 called “No Hassle.” There’s no tracklisting for the mix, but I think you’ll enjoy the selection all the same.

And with that, time to mosey.

It’s time to slip on another show, keeping the first part of the show on the house tip.

The second hour gets even more interesting, as this week’s Urban Landscapes Guestmix comes once again from Gerry O’Rourke of Foundation Music in the UK. This time, though, he’s being joined by fellow UK producer Nick Lawrence from Altered Vibes. Find out what kind of eclectic madness ensues when these guys collaborate on this week’s mix; quite an interesting musical excursion, indeed.

May this week’s musical excursion of the show be a fun and fruitful one for you. Back next week with more goodies coming your way…

<itunes:summary>It's time to slip on another show, keeping the first part of the show on the house tip.

The second hour gets even more interesting, as this week's Urban Landscapes Guestmix comes once again from Gerry O'Rourke of Foundation Music in the UK. This time, though, he's being joined by fellow UK producer Nick Lawrence from Altered Vibes. Find out what kind of eclectic madness ensues when these guys collaborate on this week's mix; quite an interesting musical excursion, indeed.

May this week's musical excursion of the show be a fun and fruitful one for you. Back next week with more goodies coming your way...

Peace.

So the original intent of this week’s show was to have the middle of the show be the time to dig in to the records that I’ve pulled off my shelf that have otherwise been there for eons. More often than not, most of the music played on the show is only heard once, then stored away until whatever DJ gigs come along.

Due to some technical difficulties (yes, another one), I wasn’t able to play new music this week. So it was a good thing that the records were on standby, and I think I’ve made good use of them on this week’s show. I’ve promised last year during the show’s 10th anniversary year that I would do some more shows featuring nothing but classic Urban Landscapes fare. Consider this yet another freestyle selection of such music, with more such shows on the way. It’s really great to go back, and share the music with you, whether you’re hearing the music for the first time or if the music gives you a good sense of nostalgia.

Meanwhile, I hope to work out the tech kinks and give you a full-on selection of new digs come next week. And believe me, the selection is quality.

Til then, have a good weekend! Peace.

Last week, you were lucky to get a humongous four-hour show. This week, I’ve shaved it down just a little by giving you a special three-hour edition. Since the jazz show that airs before Urban Landscapes is taking a break this week, I thought it would be cool to slip in the radio station early and start playing the backlog of music I’ve yet to get through, as well as the incoming music that’s been coming through between shows.

There really isn’t much more to say except that if you’re a fan of the show, then I think you’ll like the batch of sounds that ended up being in the mix this week.

For good measure, I’ll even throw in a guestmix for ya this week. It’s coming once again from the Bangana duo, holding down the fort at Heya Hifi in Sweden. They are better known as S.U.M.O., but have put their Bangana vibe front and center during the last few years. Combo is the man responsible for putting the mix together, so check it and enjoy it.

I hope you enjoy this super-sized edition of the show; back to 2-hour mode next week.

Having miss the show last week, the plan this week was to make it up by doing a three-hour broadcast. Unfortunately, the DJ mixer somehow wasn’t connected to our main console, thus preventing anything coming from it from going over the air.

In the end, I had to settle for the few CD’s I’ve brought with me, and cut the show down to only an hour. Gotta say, though, it wasn’t a bad hour at all. Lots of quality music, mainly new and forthcoming goods, that somehow made the hour a good one.

With the backlog of music in wait, it’s going to be four, count ‘em, four hours on the next show. It’ll start two hours’ earlier for the live shindig, then will be available later as a two-part podcast. More bang for your buck, and more good music for you to savor.

For now, enjoyed this abbreviated edition. Stay cool, and I’ll be back next week.

Peace.
