Here in Canada everything old is new again.The water, earth, stones are talking up a storm. First Nations chief Garrison Setee is playing Chief Dan George over the hoax about murdered babies and genocidal priests perpetrated by the irredeemable Justin Trudeau. Faced with demands that the graveyard near Kamloops be excavated (for which they’ve been paid millions) to prove the heated narratives of the Residential School inquiry, the chief was instead going full psychic savant.

”I don't think we should have to prove to anybody what happened to these [dead children at Kamloops] because they are there, and they send us messages telling us they're there...[@tkemlups] Grand Chief Casimir and I went to visit the sacred site. You can tell they're there, right?”

While resisting the science that says the “graves” are likely part of a septic system, the chiefs have talked about returning the bodies of dead three year olds to their families. Forgetting that Rez School only started at age seven. No matter when facts don’t matter in the first place.

The communing with the other side by Chief Casimir and his FN worthies has won the slavish loyalty of Canada’s wind talker Left. The land acknowledgements kabuki is the receipt of their capitulation. It would be funny to see the empathy brigades prostrate themselves at the sight of a war bonnet. Or Manitoba’s Ojibway premier Wab Kinew. "A single arrow can be broken easily, but a bundle of arrows cannot be snapped." 

In this veneration of pseudo mysticism the media is either complicit or MIA on the claims. Noted journalist Robert Fife claims he knows that there are real unmarked graves in Kamloops. He says journalists must now align their reporting with the “lived experience” of Indigenous people. How he didn’t say.

But you can’t blame the chiefs for taking their shot at avoiding production of the alleged murdered babies. Bolstered by the UN’s NDRIP and pious acceptance of their unproven genocide claims they’re raking in millions and, perhaps more ominous, staking a claim to being consulted on development of massive public projects across Canada. 

That would mean 108 separate tribes that want a say-so over the proposed new pipeline from Alberta to tidewater.. That's a consultation for every 11 kilometres of the route. The government that’s determined to criminalize disinformation can’t help spreading their own BS. Seeing Mark Carney’s collapse in negotiating the Gordie Howe Bridge gives faint hope that his parlays with the FN will produce anything but acceptance of voices beyond the grave as the new legal standard. Let the billions flow. 

As this spending graph shows, the Liberal Party has been a reliable spigot for FN grievances. From $7B in 2014 to $60B in 2024, the cash is inversely proportionate to the perceived culpability of federal and provincial officials. Here’s this story charts transfers from the BC to its First Nations.

If white citizens are confused the chiefs are not. They have seen the emergence of AI— where nothing is true— and see a population willing to accept just about anything as an AI video. A population whose liberal communications strategy with the First Nation was summed up in Little Big Man (1970). Today’s tangled tongues reflects General Custer asking his scout about the wisdom of descending into the valley at Little Big Horn.

Ever wonder why Elbows Up— so based, so mellow— are angry all the time about Trump? Canadians have had crying jags in the past with LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, GW Bush and other POTUS. But those disputes were about policy. 

This time it’s personal. He’s not pulling punches. How dare he tell us how we look after electing Justin three times?

In the years since Bush 43, Canada’s Left has undergone a transition away from modest guardian of a noble tradition to hysterical harbingers of post-modernism. While conservatives want law, the empathetic left now demand Justice! They’d caught the first whiff of their fashionable future in the 1960s under the elitist snob Pierre Elliot Trudeau. PMs such as Paul Martin and Stephen Harper had put it back in the bottle. 

But as Harper ’s tenure as PM expired the chattering classes were clamouring for something more along the lines of Barack Obama. Something insouciant, something daring, something they could talk about while on holidays in Europe. Like Obama the products of the Baby Boom wanted relevance, wanted meaning, wanted nobility.  

They exerted this newfound desire with the harrowing picture of the baby Syrian Alan Kurdi, drowned on a beach in 2015. It was a call to arms or, at least, a call to the newly minted internet. In demanding Harper do something to help the refugees of the latest Syrian conflict, they aspired to be heroes without getting the hands dirty. “For God’s sakes, let them all in!” they cried. Harper did, and the Left learned a lesson about the uses of media pressure.

It was, in the words of author/ academic Gad Saad, the launch of suicidal empathy in Canada. The desire in all things to place your own virtue ahead of the law. It isn’t enough to be empathetic. One had to act empathetically. (At a a distance). Pretty soon the Canadian Left was besotted with empathy. Little wonder, they turned to the son of PET, a minted product of privilege, to carry forth the mission. 

Forget that Justin was nepo party boy. Like his mother, he was just the superficial stuff that drives the American media wild. So what if he has the brain power of Boy George. Gerry Butts and friends would cool his malign notions. Forget that there were sexual-assault skeletons in his closet. The media party in Ottawa would paper over any blemishes. “She experienced it differently”

Besides, the country was on auto pilot. No one expected anything from Trudeau’s Canada but hold a few conferences and don’t make the markets upset. So why not rack up some fake climate medals and prizes for postmodernism which purports “that there are no objective truths, other than this one objective truth—that there are no objective truths.”

And thus did Canada begin its descent into the postmodern vision of Justin & Friends. Canada would no longer be the melting pot of the North. It was now a quilt of many cultures. His allusion was to a great hotel where everyone cooks their own food, sings their own songs, follows their own God. Supports their own terrorist cell. 

Sure, said Skippy. Why not?  “Canada is like a puzzle. We scatter all the new pieces on the floor with the ones already there and let them figure out the picture themselves."

To underscore this new Canada Trudeau played Mr. DressUp with his family in India, styling the last fashions while completely mucking up Canada’s relations with that nation for a decade at least. To show that old-timey Canada was dead he used disinformation to invoke the “Emergencies Act” in 2022 then secretly shared it with other “Five Eyes” nations. That throttled the Truckers Convoy by invoking draconian measures against their financial and civil rights (that were later found to be against the law).

He convinced his base that accelerated immigration was going to take pressure off the country’s social systems. He propped up the failing legacy media to tell Canada everything would be okay. He knelt beside fictional Rex school graves. And the Left bought it all three times— even when the Blackface photos and sexual assault claims demanded answers. 

His virtue was the nation’s virtue. How could anything be wrong with us if it was run by folks like him with a pure heart? It was the vacation of a lifetime from reality. He was a man who would honour the Boomer commitment to blind obedience. He would keep away the facts as presented by America.

And when it finally struck the Libs and their rubber-stamp voters that their PM had the gravity of a fruitcake they pivoted to a man who hadn’t lived in Canada for well over a decade. He was a time capsule from the Martin/ Harper era. But he knew enough to grab the Trump piñata when it was offered. 

Fortuitously, Trump had supplied the sneering assessment of Trudeau’s Canada as a morally, criminally and financially retarded nation. Raised on the soothing leftist pablum of Canada the Good from CNN, MSNow and the NY Times (Free healthcare!) Trump was the clarion call for the virtuous people who’d sleepwalked through a decade of What, Me Worry? Trump wasn’t just saying that had terrible leadership, he was saying that suicidal empathy made them terrible people.

That led to virtue plays such as all-but-Alberta boycotting U.S. wines and liquors. Which is like boycotting the works of Tolstoy and Chekov because you’re mad at Putin. But for the willfully blind it works. Ditto travel to the U.S. was a cudgel to allegedly punish Trump. Hurting only the border businesses they’ve eagerly frequented for decades.

In Justin’s absence they gave the Inconvenient Boyfriend unlimited powers. And bad hearing. Noted investigative reporter Sam Cooper: “It was shocking to learn the FBI busted Punjab-originated narco and criminal gang, Bishnoi, that are freely operating in and out of Canada. In the FBI indictment the Liberals were said to be immigrating criminals into Canada, and then surprised why crimes grew by triple digits. Now, they have no idea where anyone is.” So the purchased Canadian  media simply brain erased the whole thing and blamed Trump.   

Even American satirist Bill Maher is calling Carney’s Canada a cautionary tale now. A guy who spent years defending the left is looking at what the country has become and saying: it’s not better there anymore. Not even close. “We no longer believe that we are exemplars, better than other societies.”

Meanwhile Saad and Cooper have left Canada to save their sanity and health. “I love Canada,” writes Saad, a Lebanese native, “but its current path is truly suicidal. I tried my best for more than three decades to speak openly and honestly about some of the deeply troubling issues plaguing the country.”

Brainwashing isn’t enough for “luxury believers”: “To turn you into a willful collaborator, I need to also attack your emotional system. Empathy is an adaptive virtue. Suicidal empathy is the misfiring of this adaptive process.” Leaving Saad to compare it to Covid.. “All of these idea-parasites were spawned on university campuses, in some esoteric humanities department. But they’ve broken out of the ‘lab’ and have caused people to abandon their capacity to think properly.”

So they blame Trump. Or, on a slow day it’s Poilievre, causing their late-in-life pessimism. It’s conceivable that people in the Carney Army will go to their graves miffed by America’s trenchant assessment of the 2015-2025 generation. Never having considered the dire economic numbers from the Trudeau/ Carney years. But that’s what parasites will do.

With her soulless eyes and laconic delivery she’s the Stasi version of Jodie Foster. Beware when Melanie Joly, dirge-like holdover from the Trudeau years, contemplates "legal action" against users on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and other social media that she suspects of spreading "misleading information."  She didn’t get to where she is today by being afraid to break a few free-range eggs.

In plain English/ French/ Cree she’s looking to emulate the UK where the government does a brisk business charging individuals who critique the inept Labour government online. (For some reason the offending critics are never from minority groups in the country.) For those who are caught in the snare, their next address can be His Majesty’s Prison.

How does it work, you say? Imagine some Canadian online suggests that the minister has generated oh, a $54,000-a-month bar tab. She could see this as misinformation or disinformation or an invasion of her safe space. And, on the request of said minister, the offending critic will be paid a visit the Mounties, likely at their home. Before you known it the person has lost his freedom of speech, his savings and, sometimes, his liberty.

That’s how the British plan works, anyhow. For Carney’s Liberals having now bought up the legacy media and purchased a majority in Parliament through floor crossings (they stashed another Quebec Tory in the Senate this week) the Maple Curtain is the start of a three-year hunting season ahead. You wonder why so many critics of the Libs have headed south? They’re getting out while the getting is good.

To distract their base from the reality of their censorship plan the Libs created Bills C22 and C34 to allegedly protect the innocent from the malign voices on social media. It’s full of well-meaning gobbledygook about protecting trans kids and Muslims who block street intersections for a prayer session.  They known they don’t have to try too hard with their podcast/ bot following that palpitates over every Carney promise. 

The reality is, shall we say, somewhat more menacing? Marty Moore (@CanConLaw), a constitutional lawyer funded by the Justice Centre, warns the bills reflect an “increasing desire of the current federal government to police expressions online they view as hateful.” This will all seem familiar to those who lived through years of a Trudeau government ordering you to keep six feet apart, wear paper masks and removing your civil rights for honking your truck horn in protest. “Hurt” is what they say it is.

Now the notoriously prickly PM Carney gets to complete the suffocation. There has already been an Access to Information request about the plan filed by Blacklock’s Reporter. @mindingottawa has uncovered “a federal government strategy for monitoring, organizing, assessing and responding to online ‘misinformation' — including contemplated legal action against individual Canadians. The 35-page internal Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) document outlines a system for tracking online narratives, assessing individual posts, and escalating responses. It also contemplates legal action against Canadians over social-media commentary.”

Contemplates. Hmm. Could be nothing. After all, when has this self-renewing Liberal government ever lied before? Wait, better not answer that. Some will simply rely on the Canadian Bill of Rights to protect them from surveillance and incarceration. Fat chance. When the soupçon media start guilting them it will seem like the Mahdi come to slaughter Gordon at Khartoum. 

Much of this insidious movement toward censorship has been masked by Carney’s MOU flurry as he plays architect of postmodern Canada, buying up underwater condo inventories on behalf off offshore developers or proposing pipelines that his predecessor thought there was no call for. (His latest is appointing himself leader of group of nations suspiciously resembling his earlier GFanz boondoggle.)

There’s lots to deflect from. BC records show premier David Eby was briefed for a meeting with developer Bob Rennie in the same month Rennie hosted a fundraiser for Mark Carney. Brookfield become co-owner of dozens of unwanted condos via Concert Properties just 15 days before the member for Brookfield announced his plan to give them S3.2 billion from Canadian taxpayers.

Carney’s Liberal members on the panel looking into the condo collapse shut down any inquiry into the PM’s bond with the company he chaired before becoming prime minister.— much as they prorogued Parliament under Justin for eight months to keep him from answering where $300 million went.

Happy Canada Day. It may be your last as we know it. Yes, yes, another Western alienation screed. Can’t those people get a life? But the fact remains that in the coming 12 months Alberta will hold a referendum about its future in Canada. (Quebec has a sovereignty election pending, but “fool me once…”)

Odds are that any vote will result in deadlock for both sides. A third of Albertans saying Yes won’t win anything. But the presence of a sizeable number of voters who want a deal within/ without Canada is a repudiation of the Liberals status quo.

You can tell that the Trump-obsessed entitled are miffed that anything needs fixing. TDS is a disease with no cure for Canadian lefties. They will die of it or with it. When their ranting about Trump peters out they segue to “how dare you?” accusations of treason.

The press has summed up the entitlement mantra, saying Albertans should settle for Ottawa’s expectations of their future. “We’ll decide how much oil you can pump.”  Alberta is a child that must be managed. Author/ columnist John Ibbitson captured the elite’s noblesse oblige attitude. “… the result of that indifference and condescension from central Canada is this referendum on a referendum. We're responsible for that here in the centre.” 

When the “how dare you?” attacks from the Elbows Up army failed to soften up the yokels— votes for the referendum doubled the required number — opponents like the Alberta NDP leader called his own voters “separatists”. In the Quebec context it was a toxic accusation. But Nenshi is a carpetbagger open for bids.

The inflammatory use of the term “separatism” in the jeremiads against Danielle Smith & Co. supposes that Alberta is the change agent in the debate. Typically, progressives are the ones threatening the union with radical notions. In Canada that formula is tuned on its head, and you end up with Scarlett Gillespie, a candidate for mayor in Hamilton, Ontario. He pretends to be a woman and uses a sock puppet in his loopy speeches. Pierre Poilievre, meanwhile,  is tarred for wanting to restore 22 Rideau. Canada is a circus. 

Legacy Albertans are perhaps the most loyal of Canadians. They eagerly went to war in WWI and WWII. They (almost) forgave Trudeau Sr. for the hated National Energy Program in 1983. They don’t want to separate from the nation they’ve known since 1905. They like the flag. They don’t want to change much besides the equalization formula. 

They simply want to be able to decide their own destinies, to develop their energy resources.  Which brings them into direct conflict with a grasping government’s carbon taxes and more— policies now largely repudiated in many parts of the Western media. 

The real separatists in this clash have flipped the roles. The reverse has the Trudeauphiles wrenching Canada from the moorings it knew since 1867. They want to make changes for Alberta in every corner of life from gender to energy to foreign policy. Extending into the Carney years they have turned Canada into a progressive exercise in leftwing acquiescence.

The Pride parades illustrate their commitment to new priorities. When LGBTQ paraders dumped water on PM Mark Carney he tried to laugh it off.  But there was no mistaking the locus of power has moved. The LGBTQ movement now is loyal to its flags and parades— not the Canadian flag or its postmodern prime ministers.

Watch how former CBC/ CTV bingo caller Evan Solomon allows the maple leaf flag to be flown equally or lower that the rainbow flag? How they merge the Liberal brand with dyslexic distress? How they douse the PM to humiliate him so he will laugh? That’s now Evan Solomon’s legacy.

It all models the Marxist menu taught the past generation in OISE and leftist universities. Embracing small minorities in society as indictments of the capitalist system. Trans, LGBTQ, environmental radicals, feminist extremists, chronic underdogs— none represents more than 5 percent POP. But their plight has been embraced by the passionate devotees in unions, academics, media and government.

The process of overtaking society is a quintessential expression of self absorption. Celebrate ourselves. Naked. Demand everyone find this normal. The LGBTQ flying squad has moved on from 1) acceptance. They are now leaning hard on Poilievre in phase 2) Compliance. Once they get him there they'll move to the final phase 3) Subservience. You can't be a whipped Low-T, liberal male until you accept the 3-step plan

This is a playbook the Liberals have run so often-- to so little benefit to Canada-- that people have become numb to their incompetence and chicanery. They will continue setting your money on fire for another three years, because CDN media would rather concentrate on Poilievre living at Stornaway. Or Trump teasing Canada about its inadequacies.

One of the joys of the current World Cup soccer event is seeing the unbridled joy of the Europeans who have decamped to North America to follow their teams. The Caledonian Crusade of kilted Scots in Boston. The Hup-Hup Orange flood of Dutch fans in Dallas. The massed Norwegians pulling en masse on the oars in Seattle.

Peak Euro summer has to be the German tourist meandering around North America to follow the Mannschaft while discovering the sheer joy of fast food. Bucc-ee gas stations. Endless interstate highways. Ordinary stuff that Euros can’t believe. Liker Waffle house. And Wal Mart. And drive-thru restaurants. 

“I know some people will say I’m too positive about everything I see, but this place was crazy,” the German tourist Frank posted while driving through the South. “They had a shooting range in the store.” A Swedish woman was charmed by free bread with her meal. And ranch sauce. “Why did no one tell me ranch sauce is like crack? EUROPE, WE NEED RANCH ASAP,”.

An English man visiting Orlando said on X, “Not gonna lie, Big Gulps from 7/11 are easily one of my favourite things I’ve discovered in America so far,”. Another added: “Every Scottish person in America needs to immediately try Chicken Fried Steak, and you’ll realize we and the Americans are kindred spirits.”

You get the message. Because their media only spins the leftist slants, Euros were expecting the America of race-crank, Joy Reid: “Nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July." It is the celebration of slaveholders who freed themselves from having to pay taxes to the Crown for their slave empire.”

Instead they got friendly restaurants, 100-stall gas stations and fabulous stadiums. Which they will take back to their home countries. @pstonge East Germans snuck to West Germany and were blown away by capitalism. Today it's the Europeans who are blown away by America.”

Until Canadians started drinking the bitter grapes of their media’s social networking they believed America was a hoot, too. Not perfect. Who is? But a generation of Guilbeaults and Jolys and Elizabeth Mays have had their effect. Now Canadians are told by completely impartial pollsters that Canadians should move their allegiance to Europe.

Where would they get such an idea? PM Mark Carney. Even as Euros are gushing over America the globalist errand boy is selling hard on Canada becoming more like those people who drive tiny cars, eat minuscule portions and have no air conditioning.  Oh, and invite millions of refugees into their home to create Sharia law.

Canada’s PM has said that the “new world order will be built from Europe” with his country playing a key role. He’s declared Canada “the most European” nation outside the continent. He’s in Europe every second week talking to guys named Lars and women named Inge about global digital IDs.

Carney’s European model of high taxes, heavy regulation, and expansive welfare states will come with trade-offs in growth, investment, and innovation. Not good ones. Over the past two decades, Europe has lagged the U.S. in productivity and technological leadership. To Carney this is all a meh! He whispers the magic word Trump and all is good.

Trump was not amused with Canada becoming the first non-European member of the SAFE mechanism, an initiative by the European Union on defence procurement. And an increasing affection for Chinese EVs and criminal billionaires buying real estate along the border. So he has twisted the CUSMA noose a little tighter, saying the deadline will pass for a renewal— with no treaty.

Of course if you were Mark Carney looking to avoid the sheen coming off your reputation you’d be looking to change the topic. The real estate can kicked down the road by Justin Trudeau’s low-interest mortgage miracle has arrived on Carney’s desk. Vancouver’s condo market has crashed and Toronto’s is not far behind. In a real world the developer who bought on the upside would now have to carry the downside losses.

But Carney’s solution is to have his housing minister bail out those developers by using tax dollars to purchase them and "convert" them into affordable housing. Did we mention that the housing minister Gregor Robertson was the Vancouver mayor who launched the developer hokey-pokey? Yeah. (This from the “I'm saying no bailouts," stance Carney took in this 2011 chat with George Stroumboulopoulos. "The objective [is] ending 'too big to fail’.") Right.

Convenient timing for a bailout of Vancouver condo development with zero disclosure. Developers behind the properties all have documented financial ties to China. Who must be protected for the full value of their investment— even as American house prices dropped 40-50 percent before the government stepped in to help.

Investor Mark Cohodes told journalist Sam Cooper @superscooper , “Here, the Canadian government won’t even let the prices clear”. The result, in his words, is “a moral hazard on steroids, which encourages these developers then to go and do this again, and do it again on probably a greater scale.

“Let the towers sell for what the market will bear — but let that ‘market’ consist of Canadian income earners and taxpayers, not foreign investors propped up by underground-banking flows.”

Meanwhile Toronto’s condo disaster is heading south, too with developers asking for HST handouts in the name of “affordable housing”. Prodded by Trudeau’s empty promises the Toronto and GTA condo market is experiencing its most severe downturn in over 30 years, with sales at 28-year lows, record inventory levels, and widespread project cancellations signalling a fundamental market reset. 

This collapse represents far more than a typical cyclical correction; it's the unwinding of nearly a decade of speculation-driven growth that peaked during the pandemic boom. Encouraged by the Liberal government in office the last dozen years.

In case you were too busy watching the World Cup, Canada’s PM, the Inconvenient Banker, went on the road again. (Tribute to Hank Snow of Nova Scotia) This time to Ireland where he’s claiming bragging status as a descendent of County Mayo. While he was waxing philosophical about the historic Irish culture, he has ideas about Canada’s historic culture..

Hint: It is not The Maple Leaf Forever. “Canada is a mosaic, not a melting pot. And this is the distinction that matters. Because a mosaic doesn't dissolve or blend its pieces. Each is stitched to each and all the pieces hold all. And the beauty is in the arrangement, not in the blending.”  The beauty? Why not put up a sign at the border that says “Canada: Open For New Ideas”?

If this all sounds a little familiar it’s because his predecessor Justin Trudeau had similar diversity sentiments that, conveniently, dovetail with flooding Canada with people who have no intention of pursuing traditional Canada. As we noted last week, Mr. Katy Perry pronounced Canadian culture dead in 2015. The nation is now a Yan Martel fantasy hotel of cultures where, to paraphrase the Eagles, you can check in and you can never be forced to leave. 

The “beauty” of Diversity soon grew stale after Junior forced corporations and schools to actually employ it. Canadians finally tired of Justin’s attempt at arresting 150 years of their nation. But not so much that his successor Carney couldn’t hijack the same strategy of divorcing settler Canadians from their legacies. Since getting the comfy pillow in Parliament he’s been bullish on the mosaic, not melting pot.

That allows him to bury the lede. Carney now calls his nation “reliable” as a password for neutered .Like the G7 leaders that he’s chumming with this week (minus Trump) Carney thinks the solution to “the international rupture” is to globalize everything for a ruling class of dilettantes and bureaucrats. Only with global digital IDs and universal currency can peak Woke be achieved. And unique cultures be snuffed out. 

To get the G7 crowd onside uses Trump as whipping boy, because hating on Trump is easier than talking about tanking the country he’s supposed to lead. Professor Bruce Pardy describes Carney’s Safe Social Media Act, the end product of Trudeau and Carney disposing of traditional Canada. “Cultural contrition has become ubiquitous: ‘Canada is systemically racist. White people are privileged. The nuclear family is misogynist. Capitalism is oppressive. Private property rights cause environmental destruction. Prosperity produces climate change’.”

Since Carney’s Davos speech where he did a Napoleon, crowning himself as the Emperor of Anti-Trump he’s supported by the collapsing empire of European exceptionalism. It’s why France, the UK, Canada, and 11 other countries are all suddenly moving in lockstep to bring in digital ID verification for social media. With Carney leading the charge.

CTV analyst Scott Reid explains the G7’s crush on the Little Banker:  “They look to him because of his experience, because of the personal relationship, and they look to him because of Davos. They look to him in some ways as the alternative leader. And so I do think he will play a personally significant role.” You might also say they like how he called the Truckers Convoy terrorists.

What the G7 neglects to mention is that no one voted Carney as their “alternative leader”. This is his surprise add-on from the 2025 election. He has simply stood on the neck of the Rest of Canada as a platform. Canada voted then to bring Canada back, not to extend the distance between traditional Canadian values and the globalist clique he runs with.

The G7 coronation of colonist guilt embodied by Carney represents the end product of Canada’s corrupt academic and culture. Notes professor Pardy  “Four academic doctrines — critical theory, postmodernism, social justice and critical race theory — are moving the world, or at least the West, from this triumph to decline.”

“Unlike traditional academic inquiry, these neo-Marxist doctrines are less theories than programs. They are activist and political.” While they may have seemed extreme ten years ago, in today’s West, flooded with immigrants, this is the new gospel. You’d expect NDP leader Avi Lewis in this company. Not Carney.

While there have been rumblings of discontent within the Liberals, Carey’s had a mostly free hand from the Trudeau holdovers to push radical free-speech restraints. The bribed media are cowed by him. The doors have been left open by the legacy media and he intends to barge through on censorship under ther guise of “hate speech”.“This is the blueprint for a ‘Digital Safety Commission,’ which will force social-media companies to ensure citizens aren’t exposed to ‘harmful content.’

The love Carney got in France may be in contrast to what awaits  him when he gets back to face Trump on the impending CUSMA negotiations. Currently the POTUS is playing coy about whether he even wants to negotiate. Trump on Wednesday said that the United States would do better without the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade ‌and that he would prefer not to have a new one. But added that he was open to doing it. When asked what and when this will happen Carney stumbled along in a painful word salad.

For some PMs this might be trouble. But he knows the press Pinocchios obsessed with hammering Pierre Poilievre wouldn’t dare raise a finger to him. As an example, He has granted federal managers arbitrary powers to ignore ‘Buy Canadian’ policy, records show. New reasons to bypass Canadian contractors include “administrative burden,”

And he has three more years before facing the voters again. That’s a lot of time to meld, not melt the Elbows Up rubes.

When baseball labour pioneer Curt Flood was challenging baseball’s antitrust exemption that tied a player to a team for life, Howard Cosell asked him a question. “Hey Curt,” he said. “You say your situation is like slavery. But you’re making $90,000 a year. You play a kid’s game. How can that be slavery?”

Flood replied, “A well-paid slave is still a slave.”

Flood’s tart 1970 rejoinder to Cosell came to mind when reading an X post from national columnist Andrew Coyne. “Wait, so ALBERTA IS BOOMING … under the oppressive federal yoke? Under the Nine Bad Laws? You mean the richest province in Canada is getting even richer? Clearly there’s no alternative but to bust up the country.”

Essentially Coyne is saying Albertans should settle for Ottawa’s expectations of their future. “We’ll decide how much oil you can pump.” Alberta is a child that must be managed. Coyne’s colleague John Ibbitson captured Coyne’s noblesse oblige attitude. “… the result of that indifference and condescension from central Canada is this referendum on a referendum. We're responsible for that here in the centre.” 

That message doesn’t seem to be getting through. The well-heeled and well-compensated soldiers of the status quo remain locked in their Elbows Up/ TDS talking bot fixation. Gushing polls and graphics showing that Canada’s economy is the envy of the world. “GDP per capita is up. Foreign direct investment is near a two-decade high. Credit arrears and insolvencies remain broadly in line with historical averages. That is not doom and gloom. That is a record worth defending.’

Former Olympian/ Liberal parakeet Adam van Koeverden is brooking no opposition. “We have to stick to the facts here, Mister Speaker, Canada’s economy is growing.” Sure.

So much so that The Financial Times is reporting Carney has quietly shifted the trade strategy, pivoting from open defiance of U.S. tariffs to a "Fortress North America" pitch aimed at winning back a seat at the CUSMA negotiating table before the July 1 deadline. “Canada has been frozen out of U.S.-Mexico trade talks since Ontario Premier Doug Ford's anti-tariff ad campaign last October. Ford is now heading to Washington to promote regional economic integration, while PM Carney recently told Wall Street executives: "Canada strong will help make America great again."

Trump has replied, don’t call us, we’ll call you. This, ahem, small pivot comes after 18 months of calling Danielle Smith a traitor for talking to Americans. A prolonged sulk that boycotted travel to the U.S. as a grandstand play. A raging case of TDS retaliatory tariffs. Instead the forces of Elbows Up have now doubled their attacks on Pierre Poilievre who has never held power nor represented Canada at Davos or the WEF. He’s the Maple Maga. The angry guy who yells at his members. Who will— given a chance— sell Canada to Trump.

Actually, while Poilievre has been on the sidelines here’s what has been happening under extended Liberal rule. Says economist Jim Thorne, “Productivity growth has stagnated to near-zero levels, business investment has lagged OECD peers, and regulatory burdens, particularly in energy and infrastructure, have constrained the very sectors where Canada retains a natural advantage.”

“Instead of addressing these structural deficiencies early, policy discourse has largely normalized them. Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth are framed as manageable. Declining output per worker is treated as an abstract statistic rather than a direct threat to living standards. Meanwhile, the public sector has crowded out the private sector for over a decade. Yet Bay St and the BOC say it’s but a flesh wound.” 

Then there’s the collapse of the Trudeau no-money-down equity real estate rodeo.  Mortgage broker Ron Butler describes the consequences.: “10% Of Homeowners Who CANNOT Refinance Is A Number That Will Grow. So many Homeowners in the GTA will not be able to increase their mortgage to pay debts, extend amortization to lower payments or switch lenders on Renewal. There's too little Equity.

Many people would like some debt paid at renewal, many want lower payments, many want to shop for a better rate deal than their Incumbent Lender's offer These options disappear with lower valuations. Which means a higher number of Mortgage Defaults .Yep, it's a Death Spiral.”

Does Coyne think a warm feeling in your pants is a reason to stay in a country where CPC MP Neil Paul Ho asking Canada’s Chief Science Advisor what is a man or a woman is “highly offensive during Pride month" according to Liberal MP  @JohnPaulDanko ? (This from the same government that demands job applicants answer a bunch of demographic questions for Equity reasons.)

No, Albertans get former NDP crank Charlie Angus demanding that UCP members who met with American officials be charged with treason. (List of times Charlie demanded the arrest on treason of the PQ and BQ for their consultations with French officials over "plans to break up our county".

Albertans deserve a chance to decide whether they want to take that ride with Central Canada or risk a different future with its opportunities and challenges. They’re prepared for the outcome. But the holy of holies condescension? Not happening.

Curt Flood could understand. While he lost his SCOTUS case in 1971 he lived to see baseball players become millionaires under free agency, making the game more vibrant and more prosperous. And, Mr. Carney, the owners who’d fought Flood got to see the equity in their teams skyrocket to the billions of dollars without artifical restraints on the market. So why not let Alberta make up in its own mind?

Breaking: Canadian Nunavut Sen. Nancy Karetak-Lindell amended Bill C-9 by criminalizing "Downplaying residential school harms" or "residential school denialism”. She proposed a minimum two-year jail term. The next day the Senate rejected her amendment after passing it the night before.”

To paraphrase a Mark Twain chestnut, there are three kinds of lies. Lies. Damn lies. And Canadian reporting.

It wasn’t always this way, of course. The tradition of honest reporting based on dogged research and immune to intimidation was a hallmark of the craft. Imperfect, yes, but reliably persistent. As just one example in 1966 Toronto Star reporter Robert Reguly tracked down “mystery woman” Gerda Munsinger in Berlin, nearly bringing down the government of the day over her sexual connections to both Soviets and Canadian cabinet ministers.

As another example, during our time at CBLT in the 1990s we exposed the corruption of Alan Eagleson at the NHL Players Association in the face of hostility to the story at Hockey Night in Canada and a number of political levels. It took eight years and death threats before Eagleson was convicted of fraud in Canada and the U.S.

But that was a country long ago and far away. Today’s media is ensnared in traps of their own making, accepting government funds while pontificating instead of reporting. If there’s a crisis of confidence in the nation blame much of the electronic and print media who eagerly regurgitated propaganda from the Trudeau and now Carney Liberals. Canadians fish from a single river of information and so think there’s just one fish you can catch.

Critical reporting is now largely left to independent podcasters like Matt Gurney and reporters like Sam Cooper There are exceptions of course. But nothing more damning than the performance of Canada’s quivering journalism over the alleged discovery of residential school graves in 2021. The exploitation of white liberal guilt by elements in the First Nations and their political supporters became one of abject shame for the profession.

The story was straightforward. As described by U.S. under Secretary of State Sarah B. Rogers, “In 2021, Canadian media and institutions basically hallucinated the discovery of 215 children’s bodies in a mass grave near a former Catholic residential school. The evidence: radar saw soil disturbances that could have been tree roots. A wave of church arsons ensued.” 

But nothing could be that honest in Trudeau’s Canada. Rapidly the prime minister staged a photo op of himself with a teddy bear in the alleged graveyard. He then went to the UN to accuse his citizens of genocide. He lowered the Canadian flag for SIX months to underline his narrative that babies were killed and buried clandestinely by fellow students at midnight or burned in furnaces.

The proof? None. While the truth and reconciliation movement accepted lurid verbal testimony of horror in Kamloops and elsewhere, there was never a police report filed of a child murdered or buried outside church property.

Since the story was broken nationally and by the international press not one graveyard has been excavated— even after the feds provided millions for the operation. The wild stories of depravity have been allowed to foment in the public realm. 

New York Times, May 28, 2021: “‘Horrible History’: Mass Grave of Indigenous Children Reported in Canada.” Washington Post, June 24, 2021: “Hundreds of Graves Found at Former Residential School for Indigenous Children in Canada.” CBC, June 30, 2021. “182 Unmarked Graves Discovered Near Residential School in B.C.’s Interior, First Nation Says.” The Guardian, UK, July 13: “A First Nations community in western Canada has announced the discovery of at least 160 unmarked graves close to a former residential school.”

The self-inflicted result, writes @natashamontreal “Children have been force-fed a diet of revisionist history, self-loathing, and performative t-shirt wearing, in no small part because of newspapers like the Globe and Mail publishing dozens of articles lying about the ground abnormalities and pushing the mass graves narrative. Over 100 Churches have been burned or vandalized across Canada since this lie was played on repeat.”

All the while given credibility by a gullible media corps which shouted “racist" at attempts to bring sanity to the story. Actually, there were independent sources who resisted the censorship. True North, Frontier Centre, Nina Green, The Dorchester Review cast some of the first scrutiny on the dubious evidence. Professor Frances Widdowson was so dogged in her pursuit that her disgraceful employers at Mount Royal University fired her. 

Ditto Jim McMurtry fired by his school board for digging too deep. And Rebel media were onsite, resisting the cringing posture of the legacy media.

Among the major media outlets Terry Glavin of the National Post showed how the world’s media got it wrong as early as a May 2022 article. But with NDP MPs threatening jail on “denialists” the media momentum was lost. Glavin’s colleagues in the legacy media put the politics of reconciliation ahead of their primary responsibility, getting the facts correct. CBC, CTV and Global toed the same line. 

For fear of sparking militants in the indigenous community the Globe & Mail stood back and let the world continue believing that Canada was still a rogue, racist hellhole.  On May 30, 2021, the Globe and Mail published an op-ed by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond. “The discovery of a mass gravesite at the former residential school in Kamloops is just the tip of the iceberg.” Even a week ago the Globe & Mail was still referring to the discovery of "the remains of 215 former residential students”. 

But then, under a headline saying “There is no reconciliation without truth”, the paper has finally admitted that maybe they’d been a tad late in finding their voice on the story. “The media, including The Globe and Mail, did not initially scrutinize, much less challenge, that assertion (of the confirmation of human remains of 215 children). The initial headlines and stories in the media simply stated as fact that the remains of 215 children had been found.” 

Many of those early stories, including in this newspaper, made reference to “mass graves” (a historically fraught phrase that does not appear in the Tk’emlúps 2021 press release).

The paper that kept “denialism” on the boil tried to distract from getting its ass kicked by NatPost and people like Jim McMurtry. 

Were the Rez School graves story an outlier, this above might be forgiven., But it ran concurrent with the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People at both the federal and provincial levels, installing UNDRIP as equal to Canadian law. 

While the media snoozed UNDRIP was used to assert title on both Crown and private territory. The bumbling BC NDP government of David Eby opened the door to the indigenous having approval on Crown Lands and on the titles of homeowners around the province. 

Instead the media obsesses on Elbows Up stunts and Carney’s latest MOU with Mongolia or Cote d’Ivoire. Added to Canadian media’ obsequious repeating of stories from their U.S. colleagues the past decade it demonstrates a media not worthy of the serious assignment given them under law. A purchased media is a corrupt media. And Canadians sorting through the latest news are worse for it.

“Peter Menzies sums up the car crash. “With but a handful of exceptions, the days of a free and independent press in Canada are over. Now that the public is being asked, through the government, to pay our media’s bills, it’s only fair that we have a say in how they run their businesses. We might as well get on with it,”

“Well, they are an angry people, and they have every reason to be angry.”

Preach, @JohnIbbitson, as everyone east of Central Time wakes up to the Danielle the Menace. 

"From the time the provinces were founded, when Albertans, Saskatchewan, were not given the natural resources powers that other provinces had, to the latest regulation from Ottawa limiting the development of the oil sands for environmental or other reasons, Albertans have been put upon by a central Canadian elite, looks at them as something of a colony.

"And the result of that indifference and condescension from central Canada is this referendum on a referendum. We're responsible for that here in the centre.”

No sooner had Ibbitson dropped that pearl on a government-sponsored CTV panel than the S world was everywhere in the land. S as in separatism. A referendum on Alberta’s place in Canada this October 19 is being compared to Fort Sumter in 1861.

Needless to say Ibbotson was instantly pummelled by the Carney bots who everyday find some new reason to demonize the “Petro state” to their West. And by the NDP  in Alberta (led by a guy who picks his nose) which sees no irony in supporting an eastern-based high-speed rail project ( est. cost $60 B ) as a “national project”.

People in the 514/ 613/416 who think Alberta is much not more than the Calgary Stampede, Edmonton Oilers or signing equalization cheques suddenly are asking… no, demanding, that the province can’t be allowed to decide on its own future. The Andrew Coyne choir hissing that the feds and First Nations will strip-mine the province if the UPC have the temerity to do what Quebec has teased. Go all the the way.

“We’ve been so nice letting them sleep over at our house, and the way they thank us is with a midnight move!” 

A point we’ve made here many times is that Alberta doesn’t want to separate. It was loyal even though Laurier in 1905 split the prospective province of Buffalo into two— Alberta and Saskatchewan— to lessen their power. The problem is that the rest of Canada— the people cashing the equalization cheques— left the West culturally a long time ago. Three guesses when that happened, and they’re all 2015. Anno Justin.

If we have to tell you then you don’t know. In the hands of more skilled politicians this schism moment might never have arrived. People like Bill Davis, Peter Lougheed, Ed Broadbent or Bob Rae would have seen the warning signs and pulled back. They’d put unity ahead of pet causes. 

Then along came the nepo baby PM Justin Trudeau who put performative Theatre ahead of GDP. A fop who thought diversity was a food court with different cuisines. A black-faced dandy who explained away his sexual assault by saying the woman experienced his lust differently. Who thought it was okay for Hamas to call for death to Jews on Canadian streets, but truckers to honk horns and use Bouncy Castles? Or who jailed mischief makers but allowed FNs to blcock the main train lkine in Canada for weeks without a peep.

The next thing you knew climate cultists on the Left decided it was okay for the feckless mayor of Montreal to stop a pipeline to the East, a true “national project”, by saying things like, “Petroleum isn’t in our culture”. And letting that intransigence stand, because Quebec has hydro and underprice it to keep getting Alberta’s equalization billions.

Their blind spot on wanting Alberta to keep its valuable energy resources in the ground is a mile wide.  Imagine Ottawa telling Ontario it can only make half the cars it does now and use the Great Lakes five days a week. Because weather. And then telling Ontario what a great friend they have in the Liberal Party. That's how absurd Trudeau’s Laurentian grandees sounded to Westerners. 

Have they heard of the Velvet Divorce between Slovakia and Czechia 30 years ago? The two nations are happy now with the liberty they both have freed from a manufactured marriage. No one went bankrupt. Putin hasn’t invaded. But large sections of the power elite in Ottawa think the outcome predictive. They prefer to fight, not settle on the real issues.

To paraphrase Mr. Katy Perry the media and pollsters apparently don’t experience the contradiction the same way. Instead they grind out peppy propaganda:  Liberals lead by 12 nationally —59 percent approve of the Carney government — a new high for Carney’s personal. Pro tip:  It’s not polling in a nation where media is paid for performance. The numbers are really just a measured absorption level of liberal policies disseminated by purchased media. 

So far they’re buying what Carney is selling. Which is that Alberta will be reduced to ruin unless they keep letting Carney package them as a derivative in Davos. That Canada's climate goals would be met overnight without Alberta's oil sands emissions.

Using MAGA as its meme Carney’s bot platoons cannot conceive of any alternative, because living in Canada is a box with one-way mirrors. Look at modern Canada as a Colbert talk show. The audience needs guidance, so the media supplies the certainty of smug. It binds so they can go to bed feeling they belong. It gives them the courage that they can be as tough as Elbows Up Gordie Howe. 

They tell you just so much about your reality-- and then no more. Extrapolate this to Canada's approval squad, ie CBC's The National and its sister platforms telling CDNs what to believe. In this model Trump performs his same function as in America. He's the whipping post they all can jeer as a means of belonging to a country that hasn't existed since Stephen Harper left. 

So Danielle must be stopped before she has them in a vise. Carney has to produce miracles -- quickly--on pipelines before his Brookfield pumpkin appears. In short, Colbert killed comedy. Trudeau/ Carney destroyed the real bonds of Canada and replaced them with a Rogers guy at your door looking to sell you the past. Gee, it's great to be alive in the Elbows Up.

Alberta, by contrast, is expected to finance the federation while accepting federal policies that undermine its primary industry. That imbalance is no longer tenable.

In practice, it has become a structural transfer system that rewards stagnation in recipient provinces while disproportionately burdening Alberta’s economy. One province produces. This might be manageable if federal policy were neutral toward Alberta’s economic strengths. It is not… Alberta’s referendum is not the cause of the crisis. It is the consequence.”

Still The Other better not get any clever ideas about joining Trump’s America. To enhance their chances the Yes Alberta people need to study René Levesque who cloaked the question of independence in "sovereignty association". A question like "Do you authorize the province to explore a new relationship inside or outside Canada?" You'd get close to 50-plus-one on that.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, but occasionally you can fool all the people all the time. Just ask Mark Carney. Especially when it’s the Elbows Up rubes. Carney has used the time-honoured climate catastrophe gig to grab hold of Canada’s cow fart fortunes. Even though The United Nations’ climate change committee has quietly discarded the dire temperature-rise scenarios in its latest two reports Carney is going full bore with the carbon tax alarmism.

The latest pipeline hustle is a great example. There are two ways to look at the recent Pathways MOU between Carney’s climate crusaders and Danielle Smith’s pump-till-you-dump squad. On the surface, Carney’s promise to build a pipeline to tidewater at some future date repudiates everything the Liberals have stood for since Justin Trudeau pulled down the shades on Canada’s economy.

Meanwhile, Smith’s acquiescence to a rise in the Carbon Tax in exchange for the remote possibility of a pipeline similarly appears to contradict her party’s stance on energy. Nowhere else globally do they believe this tax will equal clear skies. They’re pursuing a cheap Boy Scout badge in the midst of an independence referendum. What’s going on here?

But looked at another way, Carney gets a big Alberta ‘win’. Alberta pays the carbon tax for ten years and pretends to build a pipeline later. As Wimpy said, “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”. He knows it’s a crock. Government-to-government MOUs won’t create a pipeline without investors and builders at the table. Kirk Lubimov totes the cost Mark Carney's requirement for his Pathways Project'. “A pipeline to the West Coast will be about $30B. Pathways Project will also cost around $30B. That's 100 percent penalty for doing business in Canada.”

Growing the carbon tax six times with Bills C-48 & C-69 still in place means investors will walk away from Canada. And the Tamil sympathizer in the cabinet, Gary Anandasangaree, will then criminalize any Bad Think that arises from this deception.

From Smith’s perspective this MOU may sting for a while, but when the deception is finally revealed it may be the straw that breaks Alberta’s back for good. Independence support will soar. First Nations will decide to look for a better deal with someone else. The Americans pick up the pieces of a fractured Canada.

See how that works from a different perspective? As Chekov wrote, "The task of a writer is not to solve the problem but to state the problem correctly."

Update: Premier Smith has pulled a fast one on the First Nations. According to a Trudeau judge they had the right to quash the earlier 300K plus referendum on separation. Seems the FNs believe they have a new right to be “consulted” on just about everywhere in Canada. (Thanks David Eby.) Smith announced that, while that decision is appealed, she will go ahead with a referendum on whether to create a mechanism for a separation referendum. Asking a province to define its business is not applicable to the FNs. Naturally the Left’s smarty boots, dyspeptic media joined the FNs and NDP doodles in declaiming the actin

Carney knows he has an open field to hand North America to the Davos crowd. He may be reviled in Canada’s West but what does he care? Facts don’t matter when you have momentum. Referendum yourself to death.

Here’s another way to look at the Carbon capture rapture. For those not following along, Carney as PM was a product of POTUS Donald Trump telling Canada that it was bringing six beers to the party but drinking nine. He insinuated that Trudeau’s legacy is infiltration by China and India. And money laundering by the fentanyl crowd. if iCanada doesn’t pull its weight on defence there will be some hefty tariffs imposed.

In short order Liberals caught with their pants down orchestrated a quick switch-out of Mr. Katy Perry for Scrooge McDuck. To hide their tracks they launched Canadian comic Mike Myers into the debate under the guise of Elbows Up— a fractured tribute to hockey tough guy Gordie Howe. Canadian patriots went mad for the idea.

(Note: The Myers comedic coup copied a similar stunt in Ukraine where comedian Vlad Zelenskyy graduated from comic to president of a war-torn nation. Through some miracle iof finance, Mr. Z has become fabulously wealthy.)

To hide his tracks the man named the Inconvenient Boyfriend for his stint as governor of the Bank of England, quickly struck into a flurry of photo ops, proclamations, declarations and deceptions to emphasize his seriousness. He told Canadians they didn’t need America as a market anymore. With China they became the only two nations to introduce countervailing tariffs on the U,S. 

To placate Trump’s NATO demands for two percent of GDP to defence spending the Liberals simply moved spending from other departments into Defence. This leger de main was a smashing success everywhere but with Albertans who suggested an economic war with the world's largest market might not work out so well. Hence the referendum. The purchased media declared this to be treasonous and condemned  anyone who said otherwise. As George Orwell recognized, “So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don't even know that fire is hot."

Unchastened, Carney turned on the spigots of Canada’s Middle Power virtue, using the public pensions to backstop otherwise sceptical foreign investors. In a typical show of largesse he sent $4B to Ukraine at the exact moment his old firm Brookfield landed a $4B construction contract in Ukraine. Slick, huh? But he has to move fast at consolidating his power as every day brings a new scndal that would mebarrass even Trump.

Faced with Carney’s utter indifference to Canada’s continental defence— and his impertinent romance with China— Trump temporarily halted involvement in the Permanent Joint Board on Defence the post WWII body that acted as a crucial channel for bilateral cooperation on continental defence and strategic planning. “A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments,” wrote US Undersecretary of Defence Elbridge Colby in punting Carney to more meetings with Moldova and Swaziland.

While some said the snub was no big whoop, the message from America said otherwise. Don’t mess wit the Orange Man. This comes after earlier moves to cut Canada out of the loop on the Five Eyes Intelligence organization after a high ranking RCPM official leaked info to enemies like China.

To sum up, Carney’s advertising a pipeline that won’t be built, skies that won’t be cleaner and defence spending on a military that can’t fight. To paraphrase Orwell, "Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them."

To those working in the sordid tar pits of Canadian journalism the news that Robert Fife was retiring at 71 hit many hard. To the ranks of patronage press Fife has been a reminder of the golden ages of political journalism captured in my friend Bob Lewis’ book “Power, Prime Ministers & The Press”. 

Put simply they were hard-drinking iconoclasts whose greatest joy in life was tweaking the tail of the powerful in politics and business. They took as good as they gave, but none spent days lamenting the mental torments of the job they had chosen. There was no “assault on reporters”. Few were products of classic education or journalism schools. But they knew to get their facts correct

For most of his career Fife was a continuation of that tradition. In stints with CTV, Sun Media and the Globe & Mail he led the market for dramatic scoops. Among them were Nigel Wright's payment in the 2013 Senate scandal under Harper and Justin Trudeau’s pressure and firing of Indigenous justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould in the 2019 SNC-Lavalin affair. Plus reporting on Chinese election interference that led to a public inquiry.

To those aspiring to traditional muckraking, he was a role model, unafraid and unexcitable. For some with lesser resumés, Fife’s sheet would have occasioned bragging and drawing attention to themselves. But in the best tradition of Grattan O’Leary, Bruce Hutchison and Jefferey Simpson, Fife kept a low profile and high batting average. 

But then the corrosive effects of Trump Derangement Syndrome finally took hold of Fife. Even as he was picking up awards for his even-handed previous work in Ottawa, he suddenly came down with a rabid case of partisanship. To the delight of the Elbows Up crowd Fife began to give warm tongue baths to the arriviste PM Mark Carney. At the same time he was acidly destroying CPC leader Pierre Poilievre and Alberta premier Danielle Smith. 

For many this late-season pivot was jarring. If ever a gimlet-eyed perspective were demanded it was the epidemic launched by Trump’s acid assessment of post-Justin Canada— a Chinese money-laundering backwater unable to defend itself or balance a budget. As Carney and Mike Myers launched the faux-patriotic Elbows Up meme to hide the truth, a strong hand on the facts was needed to prevent a Covid-like surrender of civil rights and common sense. To examine the hysteria of booze bans and boycotting travel to the U.S. might be seen as the most responsible action a reporter could take.

But sadly, Fife did little of this. His description of Poilievre as a “dickhead” seems more characteristic of Canada’s social-media Liberaces, not an esteemed reporter. He sneered, “Where's the Margaret Thatcher in Premier Danielle Smith? We don't see it. She says she's an admirer of Margaret Thatcher, well the Iron Lady would have just told these people, 'Get lost.'" He also labelled Northern Perspective as a “crazy right-wing YouTube channel”? He eagerly reported harmful gossip from inside the Conservative camp.

The following comments on the G&M website reflect lamentations for a reputation sullied. One former fan @dkreative1 comment,ed “If you’d asked me back in 2019 after Fife had broken the SNC Lavalin scandal, I would have sung his praises and asked him if he worried about being pushed out of Ottawa as a journalist. But after his dismal performances of late? I say, close the door behind you.”

 And this from @AndrewJWHaynes “Why did he throw away a reputation for integrity to actively install and defend a profoundly undemocratic and corrupt Mark Carney? “ There were plenty more in this vein.

Some are suggesting that Fife might now become the journalistic equivalent of the floor crossers Carney used to gain a majority in the Commons— this time to monopolize the press. It would be a death knell for Canadian journalism that the lure of Elbows Up patronage might be added to subsidized journalism and new censorship laws as cause of death. 

To play the devil’s advocate maybe Fife has simply had enough of the sorry state of his incurious craft in Canada. The FWK (Fife We Knew) would be dismayed by the increasing subsidization of news operations in Canada— on top of the $1.5B supporting CBC. That added to the millions that hapless Culture minister and longtime Trudeau pal Mark Miller distributed to grease the wheels for public journalism via the Canada Periodical Fund and Local Journalism Initiative. 

Now, Miller is talking about giving grants to the Liberals’ big corporate pals to keep afloat a product few Canadians require anymore. It’s bad enough when government-sponsored media outlets and unions representing journalists are left to move public opinion in elections. But that was Canada in the 2025 federal election. 

The FWK would also be looking into the link to the Liberals' Bill C-9, to create a censorship stasi to weed out messages that insult their PM or their donors. Officially known as the Combatting Hate Act, it will be the responsibility another of Justin’s cabinet tongue bathers, Sean Fraser. Ostensibly a bill to protect the young from contentious online content it will quickly morph— as it has in Britain— into a catch-all for “hate”—now defined as subversive speech against the government. 

As @CBCwatcher suggests “Heck, why not permanently fuse 20th Century journalism with the Mark Carney government - or regime, as Althia Raj of the Toronto Star recently called it - and diminish public trust in both.”

The thought of mediocracies like Fraser and Miller determining what constitutes hate or free speech should a target for any Fife disciple. That scenario is what controversial lawyer Douglas Christie foresaw in the 1980s when zealous prosecutors of his Nazi-apologist clients proposed hate speech as a new crime.  Said Ezra Levant, “Almost alone in Canada, Doug Christie knew that it's better to defend free speech in the first ditch — when the censors come for unlikeable people — than to defend it in the last ditch, when those emboldened censors come for the rest of us.”

It’s hard to see where today’s inculcated young journalists emerging from liberal universities would defend those sentiments. But the disappearance of the Fife we knew is not an encouraging sign.

While the Happy Flyer Mark Carney is crowning himself the Emperor of Ice Cream in Armenia, it might be better had he stayed home to mend Canada’s “values and principles”. Or $2/litre gas. Or B.C .home owners losing title on their place to a tribal authority. Maybe because he’s paying off all levels of media back home he thinks it’s tickety-boo to go visit the grocers in Europe who have given him a bill to collect. 

Let’s put it in words he can understand: Thanks to the past 12 years of Liberal incompetence there is no Canadian culture left. Mr. Katy Perry admitted it as such. There is only a rabble of supplicants playing for a piece of the equalization pie. And watching the Stanley Cup.

Just ask Alberta. It does care about Canada. It just wants it back from the radicals and usurpers in Ottawa who can’t tell you what a woman is but know Russians are fixing our elections. Just bring back pre- Trudeau Canada and Alberta won’t say anymore. But better to be in Armenia.

There’s no better example of the depths to which the nation has sunk than the case of Frances Widdowson, a “controversial academic” according to CBC, who lost her teaching post at Mount Royal University for— gasp— suggesting that the Rez School buried babies narrative is so much narrative bumpf. For that she has been made a pariah by the Indigenous Guilt Industry.

Case in point. While at the University of Lethbridge she was handcuffed and arrested by city police— not campus cops— transported off the property and issued a trespassing ticket of $600. A UL heavy breather said Widdowson was subject to a trespass notice after she had held an earlier unscheduled event on campus that was met with "significant protest.”

Was Widdowson recruiting sex slaves? Was she selling drugs at UL? Was she stealing books from the library? No, her talk on the perils of Woke-ism in Indigenous affairs jangled the academics at UL. “It is clear that the harm associated with this talk is an impediment to meaningful reconciliation,” said the white male UL president. Who was somehow unbothered by how  inflammatory pro-Hamas demos on his campus might be an impediment to “:meaningful reconciliation”. 

No, Widdowson caused "significant protest” by pointing out that there was no proof that any babies were buried in the Kamloops graveyard. That despite being paid $12.1 million to investigate the hoax perpetrated by PM Justin Trudeau in his famous teddy-bear photo op, no digging had been done, And that claims the alleged graves are now holy ground that can’t be investigated are specious.

In Carney’s Canada casting doubt on the oral traditions of the tribes is tantamount to sedition from the white liberal-guilt community and the politicians that harbour these radicals. It’s almost as bad as not reading a Land Acknowledgement claim before a hockey game or plowing match in Canada. Yes, that bad. 

How has Carney’s government responded to this? When asked where the money went it prostrated itself before the First Nations Health Authority which had transferred $2.3 million in federal funding to Tk’emlups organizers. While no exploration of graves was done administrative costs were incurred: $37,500 for “marketing and communications,” $54,000 in travel, $100,000 as six month’s pay for two trauma counsellors and $405,000 in “administrative costs” including speaking fees and tent rentals. 

One book-keeping entry called Community Support Funding Envelope showed the First Nation hired 25 consultants to “provide advice and support to the Chief and Council” and paid publicists to develop “communications strategies.”No consultants were named and some $532,000 was paid for security while other funds were proposed for public works projects.”

This wilful blindness before a highly contentious political group is bad. What’s worse is the fatwa on any negative stories about the alleged graves in the mainstream (translation: subsidized) media. Outside of a few brave souls like Widdowson and the National Post, the rest of the press pack is completely intimidated from questioning the noble chiefs of the tribes. 

Their silence is only exceeded by their ignorance of the Rez School story. For instance when she testified before the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP) in 1993, one woman was careful to state that different generations may have had “different experiences.” 

“I say that because I know that my grandmother’s experience and my mother’s experience was different than my own experience. My mother speaks, for the most part, of residential schools being a very positive experience for her.” (Would such a statement be considered “residential school denialism’ today?) This reflects the opinion of this chief who doesn’t want Canadian tuned into an “Indian reserve” but want sthe government and its guilt purveyors out of their lives.

But this distinction is not for the Liberaces.and their media scribblers who insist there is only one experience, and that is the one Trudeau used to justify his cowardly genocide claim at the UN. Ask others must be silenced. Hence Widdowson’s tribulations for telling the truth.

The peak madness in all of this is that the Liberals are introducing Bill C-9, to create a censorship stasi to weed out messages that insult their PM or their donors. Officially known as the Combatting Hate Act, it will be the responsibility another of Justin’s cabinet tongue bathers Sean Fraser. 

Because nothing says integrity like a Liberal deciding truth in front of a Liberal-appointed judge it shouldn’t take long till the courts are full of professional whiners claiming injury from a critical remark or biting observations. If in doubt consult Britain where the socialist Labour scolds have tied up courts used to dealing with real criminality with instead parsing fashion statements and alleged racism.

Not convinced? George Orwell predicted the rise of the professional snitch/ victim culture in his 1947 book “1984”. “It was always the women,” he wrote. “And, above all, the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy.”

Blue hairs and fainting goats who find jailing people abhorrent will have no trouble losing their squeamishness in locking up their perceived enemies. If you don’t believe it could happen here just consult the Truckers Convoy opponents or the January 6 incarceration Olympics. 

Or those 300K-plus promoting Alberta re-negotiating its status— a fact CTV wants to forget. Already Carney is forbidding Albertans from expressing a desire to go alone and not into his polyamorous cuddle with the Euros.

Growing up Catholic taught you that the guys in Rome were not victims of passing fashion. The Popes were dyspeptic Italians who let you know that the 15th century was alive and well and living in the Vatican. Name Of The Rose styled scandals you heard about were deep and dark and laden with sexual repression.

Most Catholics learned where to zig and where to zag in their dealings with the Holy Father who wears infallibility like Darth Vader wears a black helmet. Here the brilliant Kathleen Madigan describes the experience of navigating the hierarchy of the Catholic Church for some meaningful one-on-one time with God:

“In a Catholic school, I was given a laundry list of people to contact… before, the nuns said, because otherwise I’m bothering Jesus. ‘You are gonna’ call these people, Kathleen, before you bother Jesus. You could start with your guardian angel. He’s got nothing to do 24 hours a day except tend to your needs. If he’s not available, you can speak to the saint in charge of the activity you’re upset about. Every single saint has been assigned an assignment. You can speak to Jesus’ mother if you’d like to. You can give Mary a shout. But you are not to bother Jesus…Okeydokey.”

Even when the Catholic Church finally elected an avuncular Pole, John Paul II, his reforms were largely anti-communist. But hardline teachings? Abortion? Women priests? Gay marriage? Medical assistance in dying? Be serious. The Catholic Church didn’t get this far by blurring the lines separating it from the fashionable Left.

When confronted with scandals about sexual abuse by priests (see: Spotlight) and massive fraud in their finances, the shoes of the fisherman stayed firmly planted in infallibility. The Church of Rome portrayed by Dan Brown was not simply a literary device. It was the counting room of heaven.

Naturally, this intransigence pissed off the Woke folk. For decades the secular Left flailed the Catholic Church over a menu of their own depraved notions about right to third term abortion, trans rights, Marxist financing etc. The odds of the two solitudes ever finding anything in common were as dim as the smoke emerging from the papal conclave. 

But in 2025 the cardinals elected a Chicago native marinated in Daley’s Chicago and then groomed in the Marxist South American finishing school. Like his native Chicagoans, Pope Leo XIV put an immediate target on Donald Trump because… did he really need a reason? Leo criticized Trump’s Iran gambit as a “delusion of omnipotence” and contrary to the Lord’s teachings. On social media he criticized J.D. Vance’s views on the Catholic teachings on caring for others.

Coming after Pope Leo’s noisy interventions in the ICE activities in Minneapolis— remind us how many migrants the Vatican is housing?— the reaction was predictable.

The long-distance social criticisms brought Captain Bombast to social media. In his usual soothing way, President Trump told Leo to stick to his own lane of ministering to old ladies and the cripples at Lourdes. “Why does the pope think it is fine for Iran to have a nuclear weapon and to kill 42,000 unarmed protesters?” Trump thundered

“I said to the pope you can’t allow them to have a nuclear weapon, because they will use it and millions of people will be dead, including Italians and Catholics around the world.”

Cue Pope Leo: “I have no fear of the Trump administration, or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do.” Fair enough. Both sides playing to type.

What no one could have foreseen was the sudden embrace of Leo by the people who’d made their hatred of the Church and organized religion a crusade. A gaggle of film glitterati— including Spike Lee, Cate Blanchett, Viggo Mortensen, Adam Scott, Chris Pine and Monica Bellucci plus directors Judd Apatow, Gus Van Sant, Greta Gerwig and George Miller— gathered recently to rub cassocks with the Pope.  

“I find comfort in the thought that cinema is not just moving pictures — it sets hope in motion!” Leo told them. In return Leo has gone easy on the pro-abortion, trans-loving Catholic Lite segment of  American political life, grifters like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi who choose traditional Catholic values to ignore lest they interfere with the Democratic Left. 

The Hollywood trendies were followed in Leo worship by the deep blue L.A. Times which framed the battle between the Vatican and the Orange Man as “Pope Leo's brave stance against Trump". Trump-hating  Newsweek gleefully piled on. “US Catholics Back Pope Leo as Trump Loses Support”. The Daily Beast went all in. “Trump Posts Crazed Meltdown at Pope Leo for Criticizing Him".

On the theory that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, Pope Leo has vaulted in the pantheon of Trump enemies. He joins Robert DeNiro,. Mark Ruffalo and Bruce Springsteen as noble warriors in the service of DEI.

The hypocrisy of this glam squad was noted by American comedian/ host Bill Maher. “See, liberals suddenly love the Pope,' Maher said. 'The Pope, who two weeks ago was all in the headlines. You know why? Exorcisms… Yeah, that's who the f***ing Pope is. Okay? A guy who does exorcism, doesn't believe in gay marriage. No women priests,' he added. 'But now, because he's feuding with Trump, MSNBC loves this guy.’”

Indeed. The Loaves and the Fishes have become influencers. Who had that on their biblical bingo card?

We were reminded of the good principal’s comments last Saturday as we watched PM Mark Carney’s address to the delegates who’ve installed him as Justin Trudeau’s successor. “Virtue is like a muscle, “ he intoned. “It grows with exercise. When we are kind, kindness grows. When we seek unity, unity grows. When we are Canadian, Canada grows. And when we are all in for Canada, we will build Canada strong for all.”

Hello, Hallmark, synecdoche in Aisle Five. 

Just to show Elbows Up that he’s a regular guy (with a billion-dollar portfolio) he also made a little joke about their abstemious #TDS loyalties. “Anyone had any bourbon lately? Sorry…Small individual acts of solidarity. We are the masters of our destiny.” Gack.

Remember, the cliché is that Right Wingers are supposed to be suckers for Donald Trump’s bombast. But the Liberals—and their purloined Conservatives and Knee Deeps— swooned for this treacle, making the point that the Left is even more vulnerable to Obama-style speechifying. Virtue is like a muscle? Must be the muscle involved in knee jerks.

Madame Carney was not about to miss her moment, either. She doesn’t even live in Canada. but she’s entitled to lecture Canadians on being good little NetZero comrades adhering to her husband’s “now-famous Davos speech”. (Famous with whom?) “My husband and I have been stopped on the streets of Mumbai, Sydney, London and Paris and, of course, throughout Canada, by people from all backgrounds seeking to thank Canada for our country's global leadership.”

Leadership? That leadership has seen the largest capital outflow in the nation’s history over the Liberals’ past decade with more than $1 trillion in investment leaving, (according to a new report by RBC) . A recent survey by the Business Council of Canada found that nearly half of CEOs identify the domestic regulatory burden as the single most important factor influencing their investment decisions—higher than CUSMA uncertainty.

But what’s a trillion between Elbows Up friends? Watching these overtures to China and the EU— and the repudiation of Trump’s America— it’s become obvious that Canada’s aging Left is like the new Bruce Springsteen. Boomers marinated in progressive drivel and bragging about their faux-tough Elbows Up! selves. They’re no less besotted than when Pierre Elliot Trudeau dizzied the rubes with his urbane chic in Trudeaumania.

Like the ascension of PET in 1968, the press is fully onboard with the creation of a UniParty, a many-splendored thing crossing party lines and demographics. Having been paid handsomely by Carney’s predecessor (the repulsive frat boy Justin) TV hosts, news columnists and social-media bots are racing each other to honour the Trump Slayer. Forget that the biggest asset in his political fortunes was NDP voters deserting Jagmeet Singh to join the Liberaces. What a true Canadian legend!

Whose wife lives in the United States. All four of his children live and study in the United States. An estimated 91 percent of his investment portfolio is in the United States. He owns a house in the United States. He moved Brookfield’s head office to NYC. Yet he tells Canadians they can’t trust America. Canada must veer to his friends in the globalist movement. Must accept China as its Daddy.

And Canadians in Atlantic Canada and the West must see his $90B fever dream of a bullet train as nation building— even though it will only serve the Family Compact corridor in Central Canada. The poodles of the press gallery, who have no problem pulling down Sir. John A. Macdonald, are keen on putting the Little Banker on a pedestal for that one.

They also ignore his ominous words about freedom of speech. "Large American online platforms have become seas of racism, misogyny, antisemitism, islamophobia and hate in all its forms... My government will act.” Coming from a Liberal party that unlawfully suspended civil liberties for truckers in 2022 this can only mean one thing. You’re not invited.

The scribblers are also not admitting that the pre-fab majority in the House ignores how the Elbows Up movement teeters on a demographic cliff. Young Millenials and Gen Xers regularly tell the pollsters they have no affinity for the Liberals, still supporting the Conservatives by substantial margins even as Grandpa and Grandma throw themselves at Carney. Almost 40 percent say they’d move to Trump’s America is given the opportunity. 

Having gained their UniParty, the Liberals can now turn their attention to dissidents in Alberta and Quebec, both of whom have planned referendums set to go in late 2026 or early 2027. That means a few more floor crossings before launching an assault on Danielle Smith, the energy she-devil. For now legal challenges from First Nations are gumming up the process in Alberta. In the meantime the UniParty candidate in Alberta, NDP leader Naheed Nenshi, will soften up Smith with a torrent of fake sentiment that ignores that Canadas left Alberta years ago, not the other way around.

Quebec, which needs Canada more than vice versa,  will take care of itself if left alone. As it always has when there’s Plains of Abraham guilt in Ottawa. A few climate concessions at the expense of the oil industry and expressions of bilingual nitpicking will keep them in the fold. 

Leaving the Liberal reality in place till 2029. In the words of Mrs. Carney, “Canada … is helping to define and shape a New World Order.” To the life boats, mes citoyens!

Bulletin: “MAiD now accounts for 5.1 percent of all deaths in Canada – one in every 20 deaths was due to MAiD in 2024— with a total of 76,475 MAiD deaths reported by Health Canada since 2016.”

When Elbows Up Canadians brag about their moral superiority over Americans the introduction of Medical Assistance in Dying ranks with single-payer health care and one-dollar coins on the list of bragging points. Launched with his usual hubris by PM Justin Trudeau in June of 2016, the MAiD procedure is now considered a staple of Canadian life— and death.

By contrast, when told about MAiD’s availability Americans, who remain more religious than Canadians, are shocked that the state would assist people in ending their lives. But for secular Canadians the voluntary curtailing  of life is now seen as a blessing. Religious constraints are secondary to the legal ending of pain and distress. As the numbers demonstrate, there has been a surge in its use as Boomers enter their end years.

However as the rollout continues, people with loved ones are discovering the law of unintended consequences. New side effects have arisen. Namely, if you seek the service you’d better be ready to take it before you might prefer. Under MAiD, persons must be of sound enough mind to consent to the process. This is to protect the old, ill and enfeebled from being eliminated by heirs who want their inheritance or their freedom sooner. That’s beneficial.

But the side effects are not. In several instances we’ve seen, the person asking for MAiD has slipped into dementia or a similar condition before taking the service. Once this happens, pre-written Living Wills or care instructions are moot. The patient is kept alive to await a natural death. Often this can extend for a lengthy period, stressing the patient and the family even more.

But an earlier-than-desired death is also stressful for the patient and the family. Families and friends of a person still alert and aware witness a premature death for persons with some positive life left— a regrettable and stressful result. 

In the early days of MAiD the approved conditions were limited to physical diagnoses. There were numerous stories of families fighting with loved ones who had received a terminal diagnosis and wished to “end it all” quickly. But the conditions were physical. 

Then came legal MAiD approval for people suffering psychological distress. Warned of this possibility by ethicists in the early days of the legislation, this expansion of conditions has completely re-arranged the landscape. People simply depressed are asking for MAiD. Or healthcare organizations rationing their dollars might be talking a marginally stricken candidate into the process.

Here a lawyer says MAiD for mental problems is the only antidote to suicide.

We are now seeing reports of a liberal, even cavalier use of MAiD by healthcare professionals. A recent panel urged Parliament to lower the MAiD age to “at least 12,” claiming children should be able to make decisions about their own deaths.

There have also been prominent stories of aging victims arriving at the hospital for health issues being offered MAiD upon admittance. This 84-year-old woman had back pain but the attending doctor offered her MAiD as she arrived at hospital.

Famously, Canadian paralympian Christine Gauthier claimed she was recommended for MAiD when she was unable to obtain a wheelchair ramp for her home.

There are also concerns with how badly MAiD is being applied in Canada. Up to two hours to die.  No training— just a "fee code." Not using anesthesiologists. Only 25 percent are getting the proper shot. Not quick, not dignified, and not necessarily painless— leaving many doctors wanting “nothing to do with the process.”

The increased enthusiasm for pushing MAiD is not surprising in cash-strapped facilities. According Dr. Ian Dowbiggin in “A Merciful End”, there is a relationship between the birth control, abortion rights, eugenics, and euthanasia movements which facilitates acceptance of MAiD by the public. While all are concerned with “the responsible care of human life,” from the beginning to the end, Dowbiggin asks “Where does the freedom to die end and the duty to die begin?” 

While Americans with their widespread religious beliefs largely reject MAiD, secular Canadians— especially in Quebec— have no such constraints. Since Quebec abandoned the Catholic Church in favour of the church of government, any suggestion of organized religion has been verboten in the chattering classes in Ottawa. For instance, Liberal and NDP MPs were horrified that Conservative members carried bibles with them into the Commons.

Immediately they denounced the imposition of American-style Christianity. Liberal rent-a-fool Marc Miller, a Montreal MP, said that some passages in the Bible were “hateful” for what they said about homosexuality and that those who recited them should be jailed. “There are clearly instances in these texts where these statements are hateful,” Miller said. “They should not be used as an invocation or defense,”

What Miller and the secularists cannot recognize is that they impose their own worship of worldly idols of the religious. They flaunt their own beliefs ad nauseum. Voters are expected to dutifully worship the scientific Covid dogma and trans psycho therapy obsessions which are thrown in Canadians’ faces every day.

When it comes to Canada’s progressive Woke army, introspection is only for those they oppose. And as long as Quebec wants something the federal government will be only too happy to oblige in a now-majority Parliament.
