While I think the Power retains most of his old sparkle, I do feel that this is Raymond van Barneveld’s best opportunity of beating the world champion for quite some time. Although Taylor beat Barney in the early stages of the competition, the two men battled to a hard fought 6-6 draw in mid April, a match Barney had the upper hand throughout. The TPC Four Seasons plays host to this year’s Byron Nelson Championship. This par 70 course stands at 7,166 yards in length and was designed by Jay Morrish in consultation with Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw. The biggest challenge for the players here is likely to be negotiating the strong winds of up to 20mph. Looking at previous renewals, decent scores are possible, but two of the last five Byron Nelson’s have been won with single figure under par scores rather than double.

Jason Dufner arrives in Texas as the defending HP Byron Nelson champion. The American hasn’t yet hits the heights of last year but he has shown enough to suggest a win on the tour isn’t far away. Dufner was thereabout at last week’s Players Championship but a disappointing final round 80 meant he finished up T62. Jason Dufner can be backed at odds of 16/1 with William Hill to successfully defend his title.

I found making my choices for this week’s event fairly easy and hopefully that is a good sign and we’ll get back in the winners enclosure. A 90/1 second place meant me ended up in healthy profit last week and while I haven’t seen anything at that sort of price that tempts me, there are two players in this field who appear to have excellent claims.

It may be a little unoriginal, but Jason Day is the standout here at 14/1. His record in recent weeks has been superb as is his record in the Byron Nelson. Champion here in 2010, Day finished fifth here in 2011 as well as T9 in 2012. As well as four top ten finishes during the current campaign, Day has made fourteen consecutive cuts. He is a worthy favourite for the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s only a matter of time before the admirable Jimmy Walker takes his first PGA Tour event. Walker has improved year on year since 2010 and this looks like being his best season to date. 22 cuts made on the bounce show just how consistent he is and at odds of 33/1, he looks a cracking each way bet this week.
