Austin and the Inner Circle

Wow, I had never been to Austin, TX even the whole time I lived so close by in Houston, TX from 1986 to 1992. I’m sure I missed out then, but now the joint is jumpin. Soooo happy to have hooked up with one of my former clients turned friends, Darla Delayne. She was in my first ever group coaching program called the Inner Circle where I mentored actors in business and brand development. We kept in touch and it was terrific to have a quick lunch and a catch up. I still coach actors but now call my program The Golden Circle. Cute, right?

Just Outside of Austin

On my travels I have been meeting a lot of fascinating people, but none more fascinating than Aella Moon. Bonnie’s friend Lynn is the reason we came here to catch up and be with Lynn’s daughter Melani. The mother of Aella and Avery Sun, Melani invited us to stay a few days on this glorious cooperative farm. They’ve just moved here with a few other families in several houses on the compound. There’s a lake, and will soon be goats and chickens and lot’s of organic vegetables. It was a very down to earth experience!

Natural Bridge Caverns

Just a few miles from my dear friends, the Conroy-Hoese family, are these amazing caverns. Bonnie and I took the opportunity to see this truly amazing wonder of the world. Discovered in the 60′s on an expedition, I can only imagine the amazement of the people who first saw these sites crawling through tiny spaces with headlamps on! Now well lit and beautifully kept, the tour was thorough and quite informative. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. It’s just one attraction at this location with tons to do for all ages. Check it out!

Inside “Miss Fay”

I’ve been getting asked for pics of the inside of my RV so here’s a glimpse of some of the photos I took when evaluating buying her. My plan was never to start in the snow in NV, nor drive across the US to reach Florida. I actually anticipated going to FLA first and buying a rig. My mother’s neighbor Sandy was selling hers and mom insisted I check it out before moving forward. I had heard Sandy lived in it as a full timer for 18 months with 4 dog and in my mind’s eye was a big “NO WAY”. Then I saw her. When I walked in I immediately felt comfortable, at home, encouraged, satisfied. It had enough room for me (us), was in great shape for an older gal (kinda like me!) and the price was right. It’s also fitting that the interior shades are Vagina pink and mauve. I named her Miss Fay after my dear friend and mentor Fay Rigmont, who passed away at the ripe old age of 94 last October. I’m happy we had spoken about my impending RV adventure and she shared she had also had a cross country experience in her own RV many years in the past. Her only fear was how I was going to do this and make a living at the same time. Still working on that one but not today. Today, I’m showing off my grand and glorious and perfectly fitting RV. Also known as the Vagina mobile!

San Antonio and the Conroy - Hoese family

Blessed once again on this roadtrip with the offer of a few days with old friends. OK, we’re not old, the friendship is. I met Shavonne Conroy in a musical theater class in New York in 1996. AGES ago, right? That particular class connected me with so many important, and still in my life friends. Shavonne, Tony Nation (my business partner at Actors Connection), Randy Glass (MD, actor/singer/pianist), Sue Gilad (Entrepreneur, Mom, Marketer) and others. What an amazing vortex of creativity that lives on. Thanks to Shavonne’s husband to be Ray and her lovely son Sean for being such gracious hosts. This family loves dogs, has four of their own and welcomed Chica and Lil’ Bear with open arms. Deer graze in their backyard and the hot tub and sunset was spectacular with a glass of wine in hand. Ahhh, paradise. Bonnie met some fab playmates and found her inner child playing soccer and all is right with the world!

RV’ers are the NICEST people!

Special thanks to my first ever next door neighbors, Randy and his wife Al and dog Rusty for their help in hooking me up! Literally! Finally over-nighting in my first ever RV park, 81 Palms. There’s a first time for everything (insert joke here) and oddly, what I didn’t know is that I booked a “senior” 55+ place. I was flattered when asked how old I was. Funny, but it was like “reverse” carding, LOL. Randy and Al Meyers went above and beyond by helping me with my first “dump” of the latrine and also giving me a water pressure thing-a-ma-jig for my hose hook up. Bless you!

Phoenix Art Opening and Jam Session

It was wonderful to attend a combo BBQ, Art opening and songfest in North Phoenix with my beautiful host Linda Ingraham. New traveling companion Bonnie Dubrow was there too and I was encouraged to “get up on that stage”. It certainly didn’t take much prompting. Totally fun to be singing again!

White Sands New Mexico, Pt. 1

A wonder of the world, it’s truly a meditative place. Was here once when I was 14 on a cross country trip with family but only have the memory that was captured in one photo of me running down the slope. On the Road Again…Goodbye and Hello

I loved seeing my old pals in Phoenix and now it’s time for the next leg of the trip. Bonnie has joined me and taken the requisite “back of the RV” photo and I say a fond goodbye to Linda and her fab boyfriend Jeff. A shout out to him for taking such good care of me at Home Depot and Costco before departing. Linda, you’ve got a good one girl.

Bonnie’s 4′10″ frame and Linda’s 6′0 stature made for a lovely contrast in a pic. They are both anchors along the way in the journey leading…somewhere? What’s next? Who knows!

Dian Daniel - Redux

Another blast from the past in Phoenix, AZ. Time to reconnect with my gal pal Dian after a few years on hiatus. You know how we women are…friends for life even if we haven’t seen or spoken to one and other in a couple of years. On a lovely coffee date with Dian I kept thinking to myself, I have to take a pic for my blog…but the moment to moment experience of being together again just had us flowing like before and I forgot. This is a shot from one of her many parties in Paradise valley. I was GOOD to see her again and I will be better at keeping in touch in the future!

Aaron Bonnell

Aaron and I have known each other since 1995 when we met doing the musical “Utah” in St. George, UT. He played an Indian and I played the fictitious ex-madam of a house of ill repute and now converted Morman. Suffice to say Aaron and I fled to Las Vegas, about 100 miles away, every chance we got! We lost touch for a few years and amazingly he moved to Phoenix about 6 months after I moved away. It was so great to reconnect, and in fact, he’s made plans to join me for some RV travel in Florida in early March. Yippee!

The MEN who fix RVs - In Appreciation

This may be a travel and adventure blog, by a woman traveling with other women (so far) but I could not and would not be able to do it with confidence without some wonderfully supportive men. I want to start by acknowledging Garth, one of the owners at Valley Collision in Yerington, NV. His team not only checked out the RV prior to my purchase, but when I came back for RV “lessons” prior to my departure, did not charge me when I asked him for my bill. I burst out into tears for the kindness that was shown and it kind of caught him off guard. I love connecting with people profoundly and yes, every single man who took care of me at RV places was placed in front of me at the perfect time for the perfect reasons. This also includes Mike from Mike’s Mobil RV repair in Sedona, who taught me how to hook up all of my hoses (in theory) and de-winterized the vehicle so I could have running water, etc., to Roger in Phoenix who helped me sort out my propane tank so I could get cooking with gas and have hot water. Then there’s Lance and Dan from Chuck’s Speed Center, also here in Phoenix, who fixed the last remaining issues so I could get going with all assurance. This last RV repair shop was also a cool classic car repair shop too and I was regaled with great stories and huge laughs with the boys, ahem, men! I loved em’ all!

Finally in Phoenix

I’m here…made it. I used to live in Phoenix for about 18 months and formed a fab community of friends. It is thanks to Linda Ingraham, my host here that I have finally been able to work out all of the little kinks with the RV. In the shop for a few days, Linda was gracious enough to hold a little soiree so that I could gather them in one fell swoop. Since is was last minute, several were missing but there in spirit. Carrying that Cards Against Humanity game with me was the best thing I ever did. Hilarity ensues! Teri departs and now Bonnie Dubrow has joined the fun.

I want to give a special shout out to my hosts in Sedona, AZ, Chris and Holly. First of all, Holly is a pure gem. How many women would accommodate their current boyfriend’s former girlfriend AND her friend, plus 2 dogs in her home for 3 days/nights? This is a true FEMALE quality. Generosity, kindness and a spirit of space that amazes most folks. I’m genuinely grateful to her. And of course, I can’t leave out former flame Chris who was also just as amazing, providing Superbowl commentary and an amazing feast for us all.

True friendship and life long relationships are possible if all involved are generative. I’m very lucky to have many of the people in my life from years ago in my life today. And not for nothin’ it sure does help that they live in fabulous places along my journey!
