Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza. A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This wry tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. Over the years she has idolized him from afar and is now more than the match he bargained for. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await her or as Mother yells, “I want you to come out of that bathroom and get married!”

Show dates are June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23.
Doors open at 7:30pm and showtime is 8pm. Tickets are $12.

There will also be two Sunday matinees on June 10th & 17th.

The play opened on a quiet bar, a colorful and well constructed set stocked with darts, a jukebox, beer paraphernalia on the wall, and I Love Lucy on TV. However, for writer/bartender, Shep (Coz Baldwin), it seemed things couldn’t get much worse. He’s just received notice his first book is going to be published, right when news spreads that the world will be coming to an end within the hour. Baldwin turned Shep’s distress into an eerie calmness, making me believe he was torn between wanting to live and having to die. The scene where Shep admits he’s accepted death, even when there was a glimmer of hope for life, had the right touch of poignancy without being too sappy.

It IS 2012, after all!

The Hatboro-Horsham Patch breaks it down for everyone in today’s article about us:

The world is coming to an end. What do you do? The Village Players’ upcoming performance explores just that.

“Early One Evening at The Rainbow Bar & Grille” is an apocalyptic drama with a tinge of comedy set in a small town in “Pennsyltucky” that focuses on a group of six people who interact at a local watering hole.

“No one really knows what’s going on inside or outside of the bar,” director Ron Green explained.

The cause of the impending doom is never clear, but the bar-goers all discuss what they plan to do during their last day on Earth.

Bartender Shep hangs at work and debates taking his life. Roy plans to go to Disneyland, but needs to have a few beers first. Willie goes on a rampage and kills her husband. Shirley starts checking items off her bucket list, and Virginia’s about to travel out west.

If you’ve already tried to reserve tickets in the last week or so, you may have found that our answering machine was not picking up, preventing you from being able to leave your information. Eek! Our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience!

We’re trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but since we’re not sure exactly how quickly we’ll be able to take messages again, we’ve set up a way for you to reserve your seats through the VPH website.

Just go to our Box Office page, fill out the form, and click SEND. You’ll receive an email confirmation if the message was successfully sent to us.

This is only a temporary solution while the line is being repaired… so if you go to that page and there is no form to fill out, it means our reservation line (215-675-6774) is back up and working.

Audition nights are a perfect time to come out, meet the director, and express your interest in helping out backstage, be it in the role of a stage manager, lights & sound operator, concessions, or whatever else you might like to do.

They’re also GREAT for first-timers to come out and observe how things are done, maybe express interest in being a helper, or read for a part! Our January show featured someone in the lead role who’d never acted before and came to auditions out of curiosity more than anything else. You never know what can happen!

The world is coming to an end. You have one day left. What do you do?

This is the question tackled by Bruce Graham’s apocalyptic comedy/drama, Early One Evening at The Rainbow Bar & Grille. Forget mass hysteria and anarchy in the streets. If your name is Shep and you tend bar in a small Pennsylvanian town, it’s one last day of business and some rather odd decisions.

Graham’s intelligent and humorous script keeps everything low-key. The reason for Armageddon is mostly left ambiguous, other than it appears to be manmade. That’s not the focus of the play. Instead, we zero in on a well defined group of strangely upbeat small town folk as they unceremoniously and humorously come to grips with their impending doom.

The Village Players are pleased to announce the cast of “Early One Evening…” which runs March 9th through the 24th at our historic Hatboro playhouse. The show is directed by Ron Green who also helmed last season’s “Wait Until Dark.”

Reserve your seats ahead of time in case of a sell-out. We had to turn away guests during our last production and we would hate to do that again (despite the accomplishment of doing so). Call our box office now. If the outgoing message still is set for our last production, ignore it and leave a message anyway — just make sure you list the correct date you wish to attend!

We had a complete sell-out crowd for last night’s performance of “Four Weddings & An Elvis.” Sadly, we had to turn away some people at the door who hadn’t reserved seats ahead of time. There were simply no seats left for them.

Apparently, word has spread that this show is very good and very funny!

Our Sunday matinee (last one for this production) occurs today at 2pm and it’s first-come, first-served. Seat reservations are not taken for Sunday matinees. So, if you haven’t yet seen the show and were planning on coming on the Friday or Saturday of our final weekend (next weekend), it’s highly recommended you call up and reserve your seats NOW. We would hate to have to turn away more people!

We’ve had a few local publications put a spotlight on our upcoming “Four Weddings And An Elvis” which opens this Friday, January 6th. We thought you might like to read their articles before you come out and enjoy the play for yourself.

But umm, fair warning… even though we don’t over-do it on the Elvis, you’ll still probably go home with one (or more) Elvis songs stuck in your head. If you’re prepared for that (It’s worth it. Trust me!) then give us a call and reserve a seat now! 215-675-6774.

Happy Holidays, folks!

As the time draws nearer to opening night for “Four Weddings And An Elvis”, we begin to see where our gaps are for the necessary volunteering we need to help make the show a success. And, probably due to the chaos of the holiday season distracting many of us, we’ve got a lot of gaps for this show.

So take a moment and think not about what you’re doing now, but about what you’ll be doing between January 6th and 21st. If you can spare us a few hours, we’ll gladly reward you with a golden ticket to the hottest party outside of Hollywood (not really, but they are a good time): THE CAST PARTY!

As of today, we’re still seeking a stage manager. For this show, it’ll be very easy. Just opening/closing the curtain and calling out time cues.
We’re also seeking people for the booth, which should also be pretty easy for this show.
And of course, we’re looking for help in the lobby and people to run the 50/50.

Please take a look at our volunteer schedule and see what days work for you. Email coz@thevillageplayers.com with the date/position that works best for you. Thanks!
