I could only hope that all of it was a mistake - my pragmatism giving way to childish naïveté once more.

A misheard name, a technical glitch or human error.

Today, a dream I had cherished for many a night withered away with the finality that rejection brought. This will not define my worth, but it will be part of what defines me as a person in the many years to come. Forlorn I undoubtedly was, helpless to seek a solution to my misery. Words of consolation cannot heal the wounds inflicted upon my self-worth.

I had failed once again – when it had mattered the most.

Dear readers,

It doesn't take a lot of effort to figure out that the world we live in is a lot more fucked up than we think it is. Mumbai's been bombed. The climate change deal might be stalled. We have got a national emergency in our bloody backyard. Cholera is fast becoming AIDS number one rival in Zimbabwe. And the flipping financial crisis doesn't look like its gonna be resolved anytime soon. Well...and we are all sitting here. :D

Anyway, recently some dude in the Ministry of Education (obviously he himself lacks education) was pondering on reverting the teaching of Mathematics and Science to be done in BM. Which I think is a fantastic idea, by the way. Because it will preserve our national culture and our national pride ( whatevers left of it anyways after that disastrous caper at the Asean Football Championship) and because it will undoubtedly benefit those whom cannot cope with English. I think its a brilliant idea because its all part of the plan, we want to lose out to countries like Singapore and Vietnam just so that we can keep our country as beautifully preserved as our Muzium Negara. Then again, it's a fantastic decision, its like the sort of decision you would make if you have lost trust in Western society, considering the farce of the financial crisis they are in right now. Har. Har. Har. Well, I am not sure what you have for brains, but I am jolly sure you left some of it in your mother's womb. :D

Speaking of decision, I must say that Decision Mathematics is the most brilliant subject in the world. :D Indeed it is, and I expect to fail the module. :O Yes, FAIL!

Or maybe I will pass.

On the other hand, we have a wrestling show going on in town. Old people only though. Still its worth watching. There's chair throwing, vote buying and mud slinging. Forget TNA, we got UMNO. (: Lovely to know that this is the leading political party in our country.

You may have been wondering what has been happening in my life in recent times. (:

I am sorry to disappoint because I am still alive and well (FAIRLY well). Yeah. Or maybe you weren't wondering at all. Hmmm...yeah.

In the month of October...

I went for the Cambridge interviews.

Fluffed it...I think. I am sure! Well, surprisingly the interview did not cover economic issues but too a more mathematical perspective. Indeed. I ain't going to Cambridge after all. :P

I got rejected by UCL.

Unexplained occurrence. I am not sure why, it's just the case and I gotta deal with it, I guess. I suppose I am not good enough for them. Pfft. Yeah. It just says my application is unsuccessful. Creatively put so as not to hurt my feelings I suppose. Unsuccessful being the euphemism for REJECTED. lolz.

I am at odds about my US applications.

Now that I got 640 for Math. Still got an essay to finish for Columbia.

AS is fast approaching.

Yeah. Self-explanatory.

And...*insert drumroll*...I am a new, new person.

Said before. But events during the month have forced me to reconsider my life. xD So...yeah.

Rant.

Which is what I am about to do. I know, that among all my shortcomings and weaknesses, one of them lies bare for all the world to see, that is : I am fickle. Fickle in the sense that I can never decide what I ever want or differentiate between what I need and do not need.

Fickleness is not an addiction, its a malady that can be cured. My drug is you. And I finally realise after all these years, what I want. Because I am intoxicated by your presence, compelled by the similarities that exist between us and so very recklessly in love with you. What can I say?

Nothing much I guess. What can I do? I don't yet know.

But I am no longer fickle. Because now I have a reason to wait.

Apparently, the court could not find any evidence of wrongdoing. Well, then, that's the Malaysian judiciary for you. Brilliant. Well-founded upon the pillars of justice.

It makes my life interesting.

At that time of the year again. Another year has passed.

I am getting older, and the date when I shall leave to pursue my own life is beckoning. Approaching faster than ever. I can already see that pinprick light at the end of the tunnel. A long way to go, but its been a long way to where I am now.

These are the resolutions I made at the start of this year.

Train for swimming. (failed to achieve)
Do some community work. (achieved)
Get into LSE, UCL, Cambridge, Columbia or Chicago. (yet to know)
Go to SEA Forensics again. (failed to achieve)
Get an internship during the summer holidays. (failed to achieve)
Work hard for exams. (well...)
Improve football. (achieved)
Go for THIMUN. (failed to achieve)
Make a change. Be SOMEONE. (well...)

Yeah. The most important things to me...I did not achieve. Well. Yeah.

It is my fault.

I didn't go to MUN meetings the first two terms because I was at eYES.

Didn't get to go for Forensics because...well...my reputation precedes me. *apparently*

Didn't get an internship because I didn't try enough.

Didn't get into UCL.

So...it can be safely concluded. That I did not do a lot of things I set out to do this year.

New resolutions then. For next year. Soon.

Love is the most human of all feelings. How long do you think it can last?

Forever? A year or two? A month? A week?

I neither know the meaning of the word nor felt it before, but reading this article was enlightening, how relationships always never turn out to be as they are portrayed in fairy tales, in movies *think P.S I Love You*, in TV shows*think One Tree Hill* and in books.

That pure, unadulterated love loses its allure with the passage of time, does it not?

But I do believe relationships that last tend to gravitate around emotional attachment rather than physical engagements. Then again, who am I to say? (:

Amidst this pandemonium, of September 16^th, of the expected change in government, the prospect of this messiah saving us from the belligerence of those who refuse to relinquish their power and the incompetence of the illiterate whom continue to hold posts in the government on the basis of their skin colour, we enter a new era of optimism, in expectation of a better tomorrow. For 45 years, we have shirked the ideals of our country’s constitution, let race divide us, let us be misled by status, led modernization trample on our traditions and hypocritically and inevitably all of us demanded a better government as if all the tribulations of the post independent years were to be heaped on to the failure of the government to do its part in the social contract. As we speak, we may hear rumours of political change, of a bureaucracy bed-ridden by the blight of corruption, all of which are trivial when compared to issues that face us today as citizens of this country and citizens of this world. We shield ourselves from in cocoons hoping to weather the “storm” of globalisation that we know will never blow over, we continue our materialistic pursuits in search of a better future that only exists immaterially, we forsake tradition to claim modernization as the tradition of our time, and sigh we shall, this paradox of paradoxes, for these are the real things we should be worrying about as citizens of this country. As it is, it is easier said than done, for we are all humans, compelled to conform and truckle to temptations.

But, I plead of you, to never place your faith in someone so readily, blinded to his faults and intoxicated by his oratory, you might be, and it is your penultimate decision that will eventually shape this country.

So, wake up citizens of Malaysia.

I know of course, that this is slightly(an understatement) overdue, but I got some stuff to say about recently turned 18 Michelle Kuek. xD You have been a great friend, understanding, caring and always there. I only got to know you well during OBS and I am thankful for that. I helped you as a friend and there is no need to thank me for it, after all, a friend in need is a friend indeed. Have you ever said to yourself, I am rooting for this couple, I hope they stay together, and if they break up, I would be so disappointed. I felt that way about Michelle and Alfie...I rooted for them, for I have never seen such pure and blissful love in a long, long, long time. Indeed. And though, I may not have had the time to talk to you recently, I hope you don't take offence for you will always be a friend to me.
