Here’s the link to the new one. Facebook it, tweet it, do what you gots to do to get it out there as I hope to actually parlay this into something, so the more people who read it, the better.

I’ve been working tirelessly (really) on a new blog that should be up and ready to go public on Tuesday of next week, possibly even on Monday depending on how my friend’s bachelor party goes tomorrow. I may not be functional enough on Sunday to get the final tweeks finished and get it completely ready to roll.

I hope people haven’t unsubscribed to this because I do think if you followed The Wander Year and enjoyed it, you will be a fan of my next one. It’s going to be a bit different since we aren’t actually going to be traveling. I’m not completely ready to disclose the content of it, but let’s just say I’m very excited to be trying this, and my goal is to have a second website up and running by early June, and hopefully a third to follow.

After that, from my understanding of the interwebs, all I have to do is sit back and watch the cash roll in!! It’s that easy!!!

I’m obviously kidding as I have been working 12+ hour days on this on when I’m not working at American Floorcraft. It’s honestly all I can think about, and I even woke up at 5:30 a few mornings ago, couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got up and started cranking away. It’s been fun, and I can’t wait to actually get it up and running and try to start actually making a living of this whole endeavor.

This new blog is different as I am doing much of the design and customizing myself instead of just using a free template like we did for The Wander Year. Being that I’m not a web designer, this has been a time consuming, slow, and sometimes frustrating process. I am excited and happy with the results though, and I am really excited to get the design stuff behind me and devote my time to writing. I really have missed the writing part of this all since the trip ended, and I’m ready to throw myself back in and start posting again multiple times a week.

So stay tuned as I will provide the link here (and everywhere else as well, facebook, twitter, and anywhere that allows me to post a link). So tell your families, tell your friends, tell anyone who can type and click.

Until next time…

I mainly wanted to link my new article that went up on http://www.bootsnall.com today. It’s entitled “How to Maximize Limited Time on an International Trip.”

Also, a new blog is going to be up and running hopefully by next Monday, so stay tuned. I don’t want to reveal the subject of it quite yet, but it obviously has to do with travel, but it does not involve us leaving the country for any extended period of time(at least not yet-haha).

Stay tuned…

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy couple weeks here for us. I have gotten two more articles published (which I will link further down), applied for a part time writing job with boots that could really turn into something more down the road (I’m certainly not the favorite to get it though with my lack of experience, so I’m not getting my hopes up), and have been applying for teaching positions for next school year.

But the big news is that Megan had her first interview Monday, was called back on Wednesday and offered the job, and started yesterday. It happened really, really fast, and now we’re officially back into “real life” for the first time in nearly 18 months. It’s certainly bringing up many emotions–relief, excitement, realization, and, most importantly, stability. After a year of not knowing what we were going to do next, where we would actually end up after our travels, what we would do when we ultimately decided St. Louis was that place, then finding out that Megan didn’t have a job to return to, it’s been kind of crazy.

We obviously wanted that freedom, and we loved and relished it for quite some time, but after a while some stability and having the means to really think about our future is quite nice. Both of us being unemployed really made us ponder what it is we both want to do next. It gave us the opportunity to say, “Screw it, the economy sucks here, jobs are a bitch to get, let’s just take off again and go somewhere we like and know is cheap, get a job there, and ride it out until we can go back home.”

But we didn’t really want to do that. As much as we LOVED our trip and being away, we were also really excited to be home. Now I’m not going to lie and say we are done traveling and we will be here in St. Louis save for a week or two a year for the rest of our lives. I just don’t see that being our lives. We know now that long term travel is a doable thing for people of all ages, couples, and even families with children, and travel will ALWAYS be a huge part of our lives because it’s something we both love.

There will certainly be more from us, and now that we have an income coming in, we can start thinking about where we want to go next!!

Here’s a link to two more articles that have been published on bootsnall the last two weeks. The first one is about hosteling and what makes a good hostel great. The second one is about round the world travel and really explains why we decided to do what we did. I really enjoyed writing it, and I hope it does a good job portraying our motivations for the trip.

http://www.bootsnall.com/articles/10-03/8-things-that-separate-great-hostels-from-average-hostels.html

http://www.bootsnall.com/articles/10-03/why-its-not-crazy-for-working-professionals-to-quit-their-jobs-and-travel-the-world.html

Until next time…

First off, I really want to thank everyone for the kind comments and support on my first published article. I really do appreciate it, and while I have no idea if any of this will turn into anything more than it already is, I am having a blast writing the few I’ve written so far. It’s great to be able to re-live our trip by writing about it and going through all the pictures we’ve taken. It’s also really given me the opportunity to think and reflect on the whole thing, to really process what it is that we did and the incredible experience that it was. And who knows, maybe some day down the road I’ll actually convince someone one to pay me to do something like it again. Hey, we can all dream, right?

Anyway, I did get another article published today. This week’s theme on the boots articles was South America, and this one I wrote for today was a lot of fun to write because it was about Colombia, my favorite country on the trip. If you remember, Megan and I both had an incredible amount of passion for the country and people of Colombia. It was an awesome place that I will never forget and can’t wait to visit again. So this one was an easy one, and it really does come from the heart because I can honestly say I LOVE Colombia, and hopefully that passion comes through in the article. So here it is, and enjoy:

http://www.bootsnall.com/articles/10-02/why-you-should-ignore-everything-youve-heard-go-to-colombia.html

I’m trying to get something going for next week, but it isn’t approved, yet, so I’ll keep everyone updated. Thanks again for all your support!!

Until next time…
