O - T - H - E - R

M - O - T - H - E - R

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"

A word that means the world to me.

(Howard Johnson)

Happy Mother's Day!

Napagkasunduang, pwede, at inaprubahan agad.

For your info walang mase-save na time sa pagpapa-rehistro ninyo. same procedure.

Makialam tayo.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.

Most RFID tags contain at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio-frequency (RF) signal, and other specialized functions. The second is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal.

There are generally three types of RFID tags: active RFID tags, which contain a battery and can transmit signals autonomously, passive RFID tags, which have no battery and require an external source to provoke signal transmission and battery assisted passive (BAP) which require an external source to wake up but have significant higher forward link capabilityproviding great read range.

Today, RFID is used in enterprise supply chain management to improve the efficiency of inventory tracking and management.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a generic term that is used to describe a system that transmits the identity (in the form of a unique serial number) of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves. It's grouped under the broad category of automatic identification technologies.

Auto-ID technologies include bar codes, optical character readers and some biometric technologies, such as retinal scans. The auto-ID technologies have been used to reduce the amount of time and labor needed to input data manually and to improve data accuracy.
Ever since it was diagnosed that I am having a posible heart enlargement in the last APE, I have exerted more effort to do physical exercises. I do jogging during week days and do long - ride mountain biking every Sunday.

But this Sunday is a special Sunday to me. While I was on my way to the mountains of Busay (Cebu) hoping to strengtened my heart by this exercise, instead, I personally encountered a heart-breaking scene that changed me.

I already passed the Marco Polo Plaza ( formerly Cebu Plaza Hotel) when I decided to stop to buy bananas at a small carenderia located along the road. I haven't taken any solid food that morning so I need fruits to have the needed energy to get to my destination - the mountain top.

I am almost done eating with the second banana when I noticed two children across the street busily searching the garbage area.

"Basureros"

I said to myself and quickly turn my attention away from them to sip a small amount of water. I cared less for these kind of children actually; to make it straight, I do not like them, and I do not trust them even more.

You see, several times I have been a victim to these kind of children who are pretending to be basureros looking for empty bottles and cans when in fact the 'plangganas' , 'kalderos', and 'hinayhays' are their favorites.

I remember one afternoon while I was watching a Mike Tyson fight when I noticed that the TV screen suddenly became blurred. I checked outside and saw two young basureros running away with my newly installed antenna.

Hatred may be a little bit stronger word to describe my feeling towards these basureros, but I do not like them honestly not till I met these three children.

I was about to embark on my bike again when I heard one of the two children, a girl of about 7 or 8 of age saying aloud to the other , a 12-yr old boy , "kuya si dodong kuha-a kay nag-sige'g tan-aw sa mga nagkaon, mauwaw ta" (kuya si dodong kunin mo kasi tumitingin sa mga kumain, nakakahiya), only then that I noticed a small boy standing near to me biting slightly his finger.

He's a few inches shorter if compared to my 5 years old son ( but I knew later that he's also 5 yrs. old). Though he did not asked for food to anyone in the carenderia, the way he looked at the customers who were eating , enough to convinced me that he intensely craving for it. The older boy then quickly crossed the street and gently pulled out the little one who politely obeyed.

As I watched the two crossing back the street to the garbage area, I heard the tindera saying "Lo-oy kaayo nang mga bataa uy, mga buotan ra ba na" (kawawa naman yung mga batang yun mababait pa naman). I learned further from the carenderia owner that the children are from a good family, both parents were working before , and that their father got a stroke 3 years ago and became partially paralized and their mother died of heart attack while their father was still confined at the hospital. The parents were still in their early forties when the catastrophe happened , and the children became basureros since then to meet their daily needs and for their father's medication.

Deeply moved by what I heard, I went to a nearby bakery and bought 20 pesos worth of bread and gave it to the children who initially refused including the little boy. "Sige lang noy, salamat na lang, magpalit lang nya mi kung mahalinan na mi" (sige lang po, salamat na lang, bibili na lang po kami mamaya kung makabenta na kami) the young girl said to me.

I explained that they need to go home because it started to rain . "Naanad na man mi ani" (nasanay na po kami) the girl answered again.

Again, I explained that the rain can make them sick and if they'll become sick there's no one to take care of their father. Upon mentioning their father, they nodded and acccept the bread but I
noticed that the older boy did not eat.

When I asked him if he does not like the kind of bread I bought for them he smiled but as he's about to explain, the little girl, who is the more talker of them interrupted, "Domingo man gud ron ,noy, basta Sabado ug Domingo hapon ra siya mokaon kami ra ang mokaon ug pamahaw pero dili na pod mi mokaon inig hapon,si kuya ra.

"Ngano man diay ug mokaon mong tanan, bahinon ninyo bisan ug unsa ka gamay?" I countered.

The young girl reasoned out that their father wanted that her older brother to come to school with full stomachs so he can easily catch up the teacher's lessons. "Inig ka trabaho ni kuya mo undang na man mi ug pamasura, first honor baya na siya " (pag nagkatrabaho si kuya, hihinto kami sa pamamasura, first honor kasi sya) the little boy added proudly.

Maybe I was caught by surprise or I am just overly emotional that my tears started to fall. I then quickly turned my back from them to hide my tears and pretended to pick up my bike from the carenderia where I left it.

I don't know how many seconds or minutes I spent just to compose myself; pretending again this time that I was mending by bike.

Finally I get on to my bike and approached the three children to bid goobye to them who in turn cast their grateful smiles at me. I then took a good look at all of them specially to the small boy and pat his head with a pinch in my heart. Though I believe that their positive look at life can easily change their present situation, there is one thing that they can never change; that is , their being motherless. That little boy can no longer taste the sweet embrace, care, and most of all , the love of his mother forever. Nobody can refill the empty gap created by that sudden and untimely death of their mother. Every big events that will happen to their lives will only remind them and make them wish of their mother's presence.

I reached to my pocket and handed to them my last 100 peso bill which I reserved for our department's bowling tournament. This time they refused strongly but I jokingly said to the girl "sumbagon teka ron kung di nimo dawaton" (suntukin kita dyan pag hindi mo tinanggap yan). She smiled as she extended her hand to take the money. "Salamat noy makapalit gyud me ron ug tambal ni papa" (salamat po, makakabili kami nito ng gamot ni papa) she uttered.

I then turned to the small boy and though he's a few feet away from me, I still noticed that while his right hand was holding the half - filled sack , his left hand was holding a toy ? a worn out toy car. I waved my hands and said bye bye to him as I drove towards the mountains again. Did he just found the toy in the garbage area or the toy was originally his - when the misfortune did not took place yet? - I did not bother to ask. But one thing is crystal clear to me, that inspite of the boy's abnormal life, he did not given up his childhood completely. I can sense it that way he hold and stare at his toy.

My meeting with that young basureros made me poorer by 100 pesos. But they changed me and made me more richer as to lessons of life are concerned.

In them, I learned that life can changed suddenly and may caught me flat footed. In them, I've learned that even the darkest side of life, cannot change the beauty of one's heart. Those three children, who sometimes cannot eat three times a day, still able to hold on to what they believe was right. And what a contrast to most of us who are quick to point out to our misfortunes when caught with our mistakes. In them, I've learned to hope for things when things seem to go the other way.

Lastly, I know that God cares for them far more than I do. That though He allowed them to experience such a terrible life which our finite minds cannot comprehend, His unquestionable love will surely follow them through.

And in God's own time they will win.

Warning..!!!! Warning..!!!! Warning..!!!!

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday:

WARNING FROM POLICE - THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN:
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE -- NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating.... You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside... You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women.. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please keep this going and tell all your friends.

At one point or another in people's lives they have become a tourist or a traveler. Being a traveler does not mean you have to head across the seas and into another country or part of the world. Traveling simply means going from one place to another for leisure of for business. In any case, people always bring along cameras, maps and even hire a tour guide at the place they are heading to. Once there, all they do is lounge around on the beach or at the pool deck, drink some cocktails at the bar, or spend the whole day watching movies inside their hotel rooms. When they get back home, all they have to show for their travels is a bunch of poorly-taken photographs.

Such a waste!

Traveling means soaking up as much of the way of life in your destination place as much as you can. Traveling is not only about the place but is also about the people, their culture, and exchanging your culture with them. Totally immersing in the place and experiencing what they have to offer you and what you can offer them is what traveling is all about.

Imagine the way people travel back in the old days, before planes and cruise ships and five star hotel rooms where even invented or imagined. The only means for people to travel is by horse and carriage, and if they do not have that all they can rely on would be their legs. It would just be like a scene from Lord of The Rings where the Fellowship would have to cross the whole of Middle Earth on foot. Although there might be perils along the way, the journey itself would be an awesome experience and would probably better and enjoyable than arriving in your place of destination.

People in this modern world would not be able to perform such feats and would have difficulty traveling on foot. However, I came across a blog written by Linus Gitahi about a tribe of people who could probably still perform what the travelers of old could do. The Kenyan people, particularly those from the Kalenjin tribe can do amazing feats with running that no other group of people in the world has done.

Linus Gitahi described these stories in his blogs as well as an analysis of the possible causes or circumstances that made these people capable of performing such running feats. Linus Gitahi have looked at various possible reasons why Kenyans and the Kalenjin Tribe runs this way like the way they eat, their environment, their training regimens and even their genes.

In any case, traveling on foot is still an enjoyable way to discover new worlds, although not in a cross-country sort of way or the way the Kenyans and the Kalenjin tribe does it. Still, it's a lot better than traveling thousands of miles across the globe, only to sip beer and soak in a bathtub at a cheap hotel.
Try Han Wok Blue Wave

I just had one of the best lunch experience in years yesterday. And it was Chinese cuisine!

I accepted the invitation from Mr. Jack Wong and wife Helen, fellow entrepreneurs from Wong Group of Companies to come and visit their Han Wok Chinese Restaurant at the Blue Wave Commercial Complex at D. Macapagal Avenue. I was really glad that I did.

Together with Jack and Helen, we were joined by Jo Frando of Taxmaster Accounting Services, Nathaniel Torilla of Han Wok Blue Wave and Rome Sherriff Montoya of Worldnet Business Center over lunch. They were a really cool group and I had a chance to learn more about Wong Group of Companies and their world-class services.

(from left: Nathan Torilla, Rome Montoya, who's that bald guy?, Jack Wong, Helen Wong and Jo Frando)

We were served with Sauteed Squid with Bell peppers, with really tender and tasty squid with just the right touch of chili and spices. Another dish wash their Chami special, one of the best pancit dish I've ever tasted. Not to be outdone was the Fried String Beans with Minced Pork, that tingles the palate with just the right combination of vegetables and meat. But my favorite was the Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet, which I mistakenly thought of as pork due to the very tasty morsels that I began to lose count of calories I'm ingesting.

Chami Special

According to Jack, what we had we're not even Han Wok's specialties although the dishes could rival any Chinese restaurant meals I've laid my taste buds on. Looking at the gallery of food portraits on the wall, I could see that they have 3 Cups Chicken in Hotpot, Poached Tofu, Beef Hofan Guisado, Chili Shrimp with Snow Peas and a whole lot more. I would surely come back for more of these good stuff and write about it here.

I was really surprised with how varied the dishes were, which can cater to any preference and diet that their customers would have. Here's one thing that's awesome - the price was really competitive for a Chinese restaurant of this caliber. They even have econo meals for those on the budget but looking at the flyers they had on these meals, they're only "econo" on the price tag but not on the food. Really cost effective!

3 Cups Chicken in Hotpot

At that time, a photo shoot was ongoing as Han Wok Blue Wave is boosting their product offerings with more dish selections, cocktails and delicacies. Looking at the samples used in the shoot, my mouth began to water even after that sumptuous meal and a cup of Han Wok's Syphon Brewed Coffee.

The coffee was really good and could rival any overpriced coffee franchise out there. One thing I noticed was that they're giving out free newspapers to all patrons! According to Jack, he'll be setting up a Wi-Fi station there so every visitor could access the Internet while sipping their coffee or eating their favorite meals.

As I head back home, I can't help but notice how Han Wok stands out among the other food establishments in the area. If you're tired of all the commercialized food out there and want your taste buds pampered, then I advice you to visit Han Wok Blue Wave and try their delectable delicacies. You won't regret it I guarantee.
This is a bit outdated by I just want to share it with you, particularly in the wake of this global crisis sweeping across the world.

The competition had 60 contestants representing English speaking countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. Patricia received her award in November 2004 at Buckingham Palace from His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and president of the ESU. The board of judges' decision was unanimous, according to contest chairman Brian Hanharan of the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC).

--------------------------------------------------------------

BLONDE AND BLUE EYES

When I was little, I wanted what many Filipino children all over the country wanted. I wanted to be blond, blue-eyed, and white. I thought -- if I just wished hard enough and was good enough, I'd wake up on Christmas morning with snow outside my window and freckles across my nose!

More than four centuries under western domination does that to you. I have sixteen cousins. In a couple of years, there will just be five of us left in the Philippines; the rest will have gone abroad in search of "greener pastures." It's not just an anomaly; it's a trend; the Filipino Diaspora. Today, about eight million Filipinos are scattered around the world.

There are those who disapprove of Filipinos who choose to leave. I used to. Maybe this is a natural reaction of someone who was left behind, smiling for family pictures that get emptier with each succeeding year. Desertion, I called it. My country is a land that has perpetually fought for the freedom to be itself. Our heroes offered their lives in the struggle against the Spanish, the Japanese, and the Americans. To pack up and deny that identity is tantamount to spitting on that sacrifice.

Or is it? I don't think so, not anymore. True, there is no denying this phenomenon, aided by the fact that what was once the other side of the world is now a twelve-hour plane ride away. But this is a borderless world, where no individual can claim to be purely from where he is now. My mother is of Chinese descent, my father is a quarter Spanish, and I call myself a pure Filipino - a hybrid of sorts resulting from a combination of cultures.

Each square mile anywhere in the world is made up of people of different ethnicities, with national identities and individual personalities. Because of this, each square mile is already a microcosm of the world. In as much as this blessed spot that is England is the world, so is my neighbourhood back home. Seen this way, the Filipino Diaspora, or any sort of dispersal of populations, is not as ominous as so many claim. It must be understood. I come from a Third World country, one that is still trying mightily to get back on its feet after many years of dictatorship. But we shall make it, given more time. Especially now, when we have thousands of eager young minds who graduate from college every year. They have skills. They need jobs. We cannot absorb them all.

A borderless world presents a bigger opportunity, yet one that is not so much abandonment but an extension of identity. Even as we take, we give back. We are the 40,000 skilled nurses who support the UK's National Health Service. We are the quarter-of-a-million seafarers manning most of the world's commercial ships. We are your software engineers in Ireland, your construction workers in the Middle East, your doctors and caregivers in North America, and your musical artists in London's West End.

Nationalism isn't bound by time or place. People from other nations migrate to create new nations, yet still remain essentially who they are. British society is itself an example of a multi-cultural nation, a melting pot of races, religions, arts and cultures. We are, indeed, in a borderless world!

Leaving sometimes isn't a matter of choice. It's coming back that is. The Hobbits of the shire travelled all over Middle-Earth, but they chose to come home, richer in every sense of the word. We call people like these balikbayans or the 'returnees' -- those who followed their dream, yet choose to return and share their mature talents and good fortune.

In a few years, I may take advantage of whatever opportunities come my way. But I will come home. A borderless world doesn’t preclude the idea of a home. I'm a Filipino, and I'll always be one. It isn't about just geography; it isn't about boundaries. It's about giving back to the country that shaped me.

And that's going to be more important to me than seeing snow outside my windows on a bright Christmas morning.

Mabuhay and Thank you.
Three hundred years ago, a group of people from the Thao tribe was seeking food and hunting wild animals in the hills and mountains of Formosa, when they spotted a great white deer running across the hills.1 With great determination and the desire to see more of this wonderful omen from the heavens, the hunters followed the deer. For three days and nights they tracked the great animal until it entered a forest where they lost traces of this seemingly ethereal apparition. Never giving up, the hunters continued with their quest and dared to enter the forest.

They finally got through to the other side, and what beheld them was like heaven on earth. A lake reflecting the brightness of the sun lay before their eyes with a backdrop of lush mountains and virgin forests. In the middle of the lake was a small round island, with the southern part shaped like the crescent of a new moon, while the northern part appeared like the sun. The hunters named the island Lalu and the body of water Sun Moon Lake because of these features. Due to the rich surroundings and magnificent scenery, the tribe decided to settle and live there.2
The lake has an average depth of 40 meters and covers an area of 7.7 square kilometers. 1 The lake is surrounded by Mount Shuishe and Mount Daijan, appearing like enormous guardians watching over this magical place, which is considered holy ground by the Thao tribe. 2 The emerald green waters of the lake that is almost crystalline in its clarity, reflects these mountains and other hills that the Japanese named Lalu “Jade Island” during their occupation of Taiwan at the height of World War II.

Sun Moon Lake is a very popular tourist attraction in Taiwan, with natural forests ideal for nature lovers and bird watchers. Blessed with an abundance of natural resources and vegetation, the region near the lake teems with birds, insects and other wildlife.3

The combination of mountain and water scenery creates a natural beauty that is often depicted in Chinese landscape paintings that has survived the ages. Visitors are enchanted with the various changes in mist formations at different times of the day, creating a variety of moods that is impossible to capture in one single view. This reason alone makes visitors and tourists prolong their stay in an attempt to see and experience the beauty of the lake in all its forms. 4

The early morning mist at dawn covers the surface of the lake with an eerie blanket that signifies something great and magnificent lies hidden beneath this veil. As the sun slowly rises, the mist gently dissolves revealing the utter beauty of the lake as it reflects surrounding images while the community around the lake wakes up to the sound of music from Mother Nature’s singers. At dusk, the sun settles but leaves rays of brilliant gold shimmering across the surface of the lake. 4 As the evening comes to a close, the fading cacophony of lights and sound ebbs away, appearing like a scene from a brilliantly produced fantasy movie. However, no human creation will be able to reproduce the natural beauty of this piece of heaven on earth.

Aside from its natural beauty, the region around the Sun Moon Lake is home to various cultural and historical sites that makes it a prime tourist destination from visitors from around the world. Famous scenic spots include the Itashao, Lalu Island, the Syuentzang Temple, the Tsen Pagoda and the Wenwu Temple. The Wenwu Temple, which is located in the northern part of the lake, pays homage to Confucius, the founder of Confucianism. This tall and splendid temple that was designed following the features of the surrounding mountains also pays homage to General Yue Fei of the Southern Song Dynasty as well as to the great general Shu States of the Three Kingdoms.

The following diagram shows scenic spots that are located along the periphery of the lake. The lake can be reached by bus directly from Taichung or from Taipei. If by car, the lake can be reached by the major freeways which interconnect to the provincial highways leading directly into the lake. 3

If you are planning to spend your holidays in a paradise resort, look no further as you can have a wonderful South Pacific getaway in Consolidated Resorts’ Kauai Sands Hotel. Called the most scenic island in Hawaii, the surrounding beaches and lush vegetation makes it a perfect place to relax amidst the sound of calming waves as you sprawl on less crowded white sand beaches.

The resort is a wonderful sanctuary in this island paradise and is maintained and operated by Consolidated Resorts as an action hotel where visitors can enjoy breathtaking ocean sports and other island activities. Have you seen movies with those majestic helicopter scenes against a backdrop of fantastic waterfalls? You can experience it right there in Kauai.

Wouldn’t it be great to work in such an environment? That would be a great respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. You might as well get that dream job by joining Consolidated Resorts as they offer wonderful opportunities and benefits for anyone willing to join their team. Now that would be a great working environment. Would that be vacationing while you work, or working while you are in vacation?

I do not know. It does not matter, as long as you do it in paradise.
The sheer beauty and comforting tranquility of a winter landscape and the shrill thrill of snow in their hands are what most people from tropical countries are dreaming to see at least once in their lifetime. However, for people who have lived most of their lives in winterized areas, they would rather forego another white Christmas for a chance to spend the holidays in another area in the globe, in a tropical island perhaps, basking in the sun instead of shivering from the cold.

This time of the year, people could get good bargains from travel destinations across the world that would usually cost more during their peak seasons, particularly during summer time or during local festivals.1 The following are recommended international destinations for would-be travelers, who would like to have an adventure of a lifetime this winter season – on a budget.

Bangkok, Thailand

The city’s three climactic levels: cold, hot, wet – would all seem relatively warm for a person who is used to cold spells and winter nights. November to February would be the best time of the year to visit this majestic city,2 as the rains brought about by tropical depressions are soon mellowing down. You may find some marked-up prices during December 3 as more tourists come in, but in this amalgam of international brand names and hundred-year-old relics, one could still find it cheaper than most international markets.

A traveler who only stayed in Bangkok during the winter holidays can avail of a refund of the 7% value-added tax (VAT) that are imposed on goods and service. However, you can only get this at approved stores with a blue and white refund sticker. Just get a tax refund form and invoice from the shop and get your refund at VAT Refund desks found at major malls and at the airport. 4

Cairo, Egypt

Traveling to Egypt during the winter season would be more cost effective than scheduling a tour during the summer season. Most expenses associated with travel like hotel rooms, airfare, food and tours are much more affordable during the off season, except during the last week of December where prices would peak up due to a surge of winter vacationers from Europe. 5

Traveling on a budget to Cairo does not mean you have to go on your own, independent from tours and cruises, and work your way through the streets and destinations alone. Although one can actually do that if he prefers to, but traveling on a budget or economy tour can give as much savings with packaged discounts and readily available transportation. 5

Eating at hotels in Cairo can drain your budget, even if these are only three-star or four-star establishments. If your budget allows for it, you can dine in restaurants and food corners in markets and get almost the same quality as these hotels. However, if you really want to maximize your savings, get drinks, sandwiches and cigarettes in local supermarkets and you’re all set. 5

Munich, Germany

Travelling to Munich during the Oktoberfest could be a lot of fun but could also put a heavy strain on your budget. Going there after the festivities could give you bigger discounts in hotels and shops, and you could still savor the good beer, fantastic food and great shopping destinations. 6

Nightlife in Munich is generally great and packs a lot of fun, particularly in the large beer halls or beer gardens found throughout most of the city. Party animals can go to Kultfabric where a large array of bars and clubs can be found that is unmatched in Europe. It gets wild during the weekends, but people can still enjoy clubbing there during the weekends together with the locals. 7

Rome, Italy

With the current foreclosures crisis hitting the United States and some other parts of the globe, many are contemplating of moving to other places where they can find budget homes at really excellent locations. Italy is one of the few favorites retirees are aiming for. 8

But for those who just want to spend their winter in a great travel destination, the city of Rome in Italy is one of the best places to go anywhere around the world. On top of the historical and cultural landmarks in this city, people can get good authentic Italian food at reasonably low prices that would be very easy on the budget. Eating breakfast or lunch in an outside table can provide a romantic ambience that is also romantic for your wallet. 9

Venice, Italy

Another great Italian getaway is Venice. This wonderful city, rich in culture and majestic sceneries appear to cost a fortune as a destination that only your rich neighbor can afford. However, going there during off-seasons, particularly after the Christmas holidays can really give you a good deal without putting a big strain on your wallet.

To maximize your trip, do not go with the crowd and visit places that most tourists flock to. Visit the pubs, bars, and shops that locals go to, usually the narrow Venetian streets that are away from crowds of tourists. You could discover great bargains from shops and have a chance to mingle with the locals and taste what the real Venice is all about. 10

Boracay Island, Philippines

If you really want to get out of the cold and sprawl on a magnificent beach, with white sand as fine as sugar caressing your skin, then Boracay Island in the Philippines is the perfect destination hideaway. Ranked #7 in May 2007 among the top ten beaches in the world by the Chicago Tribune and the New York Newsday, Boracay usually peaks during the summer, but is an excellent vacation spot during the cold months of November to February.

Aside from the great hotels and budget lodgings, great food and memorable nightlife, visitors who come to Boracay would never forget the special treatment and Filipino hospitality that they get from the locals who would go out of their way just to please visitors. In the Philippines, where there is no such thing as an uninvited guest, visitors can’t get this much pampering from anywhere else in the world. 11
