Net Primary Production (NPP) - the total photosynthetic production of the planet - is estimated to be 225 billion metric tons of wood, grass, fibre and food. The human economy utilises, consumes, converts, burns or clear-cuts 40% of NPP on land. This figure is projected to be 80% by 2040.

They realised that to do this they had to "work like crazy", so they adopted the name Crazy Green with the idea of making the earth suitable for the next generation.

The Hockerton Housing Project (HHP) is the UK's first earth sheltered, self-sufficient ecological housing development. The residents of the five houses generate their own clean energy, harvest their own water and recycle waste materials causing no pollution or carbon dioxide emissions.

Perhaps the real definition of Progress should reflect the real impact that a technology has on natural systems? For example, if renewable energy systems could manufacture the hydrogen required for the transition to hydrogen fuel cell technology, that could be seen as Progress.
