Two days ago, my friend messaged me and asked if I wanted to start having sleepless nights by playing SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online. At first I thought it was a hacked message judging by the, in my opinion, weird URL – http://sdgo.ogplanet.com/, but I soon dismissed that and so I clicked the link. Once the page was loaded, I then realized this was the exact same online Gundam game that I wanted to play years ago but it was only available within Japan at the time.

He was right, we will be losing a ton of sleep because I’ve only been playing for a day or so and I am already addicted to this game. SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online is basically an free-to-play MMO third person shooter game where you get to pilot SD, or super deformed, version of mobile suits. If you have played any other shooter games on PC, be it first or third person, you will be able to jump right in and start blasting enemie mobile suits AND mobile suit carriers.

One of the elements that makes SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online so addictive is the fact that you can use your points that you obtain from quests and battles to buy capsule fighters from the capsule machines. For those who doesn’t know what I am talking about here is one example. There are more than a few dozen capsule machines for you to choose from, each machine contains 6 different mobile suits that you can potentially get from playing (using your points). The mobile suits are ranked A, B and C with C being the lowest class of all. Obviously you want to aim for Class As. But just like the real toy capsule machine, its all based on chance (minus the fact that real toy capsule machine owners might take out the good ones and sell them separately for higher prices leaving all the worthless ones in the machine). It took me more than 10 tries to obtain the class B Blue Flame.

The game starts you off with tutorials covering the basics, then you will receive a random capsule which is your very first capsule fighter. It will probably be either a class C Zaku or GM. I got the GM and my friend got a yellow GM. Yes they are pretty bad but they are really just your starter MS (mobile suits). You can quickly obtain your next capsule fighter by completing quests. You will also earn the points mentioned above so you can try out your luck on one of those capsule machines. You and your MS will gain experience as you play. As your MS’s gain more experience and “rank” up, they will obtain abilities like the “special” move as well as passive / active abilties like increased attack or speeds up consecutive rate of firing when HP is below 40%.

There are different servers as well that suit different players (trainees, beginners and more advanced players) to do your co-op missions (up to 4 players) for completing quests or just in general. There are also single player missions, tutorial missions as well as PVP servers where human players clash with each other in free for all or team PVP. I don’t suggest you go into the PVP servers as most of the players, at least I’ve seen so far, all have high end capsule fighters (mostly class A) and chances are you will get killed in one shot easily.

In terms of graphics, its not Battlefield 3 quality obviously. But it doesn’t have to be since its a cartoon to begin with. The graphics is smooth and fluid enough and I did not suffer any framerate drops on my desktop but I did try it on my labtop and I did notice a lot of lag but probably because my labtop does not have a video card, but mind you its still playable on the labtop.

There are still a lot of features that I have not yet fully explored, such as the blue print system where I suspect you can build MS instead of trying out your luck, customizing the MS with stickers and paint of your choice and so on. There seems to be many different customizations for each MS.

Unfortunately I cannot record this game while I play but there are a bunch of gameplays on youtube and here is one:

If you are a Gundam fan, this is a must try! What’s there to lose? Its free!

New phones are coming out every year, hack every few months! If you are one of them and in the UK. If I was one of them, I would sell my phone and recoup part of what I’ve spent and put it towards the new phone. Similar to trading in your current car for another except that you are guaranteed the best price from Sell My Mobile.

The process is very straight forward and anyone who knows how to navigate a site can follow their 4 simple steps. First you search for the model of your phone, the results will be displayed showing companies looking to buy your phone as well as how much they are offering. You then select the best deal you can find and fill out the details. Once you have mailed your phone to the cell phone recycle company and they have verified the phone, they will send you the payment in cash or vouchers.

I personally think this is a good way to get rid of your unwanted phones where you get paid to get rid of your junk, you cannot get any better than that. Its espcially true for people who own popular phones like the almighty iPhones which always have high demand. Someone with an iPhone 4 can sell it, then get an iPhone 4S without paying for the full price for the new one. Even though I personally wouldn’t do that unless I was really crazy about Siri, a better camera and processor. The site also contains a “Most Popular” section where it shows you the most popular traded in phones. As of right now, iPhone 3GS 16GB is the most popular and you can get up to £113 follow by iPhone 4 16GB where you can potentially sell it for £243.

As soon as I heard the demo for Asura’s Wrath was out today, I stopped doing whatever I was doing, turned on my PS3 and downloaded the demo. I was so excited because this is one of those over-the-top games that you don’t see that often. The last one was Bayonetta in my opinion and it was a great game. But unfortunately Capcom’s Asura’s Wrath disappointed me, a lot.

<img src="http://www.thewebtechreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/asuraswrath2.jpg" width=99%" alt="Asura's Wrath Demo Review">

The demo gives you two episodes (5 and 11) to play with and you are controlling the main protagonist Asura. In episode 5 you will fight against a big fat deity (one of many deities in the game) and in episode 11 you will fight against your ex-master. Let me cut it short and tell you that, this game, or at least the demo, is nothing but a combination of button mashing and quick time events. Most of the time you will be clicking or mashing the circle button until your Burst gauge fills up and the scene continues when you release the Burst by pressing R2. There is barely any time where you will actually be playing the demo as an action game. You are basically watching an interactive movie, mind you, a pretty good anime movie to be honest because it reminds me of Dragon Ball Z, one of my childhood all time favorite. But then again, would I buy this interactive anime movie/game for the full $59.99 price tag plus tax? Hell no!

I really hope the full game offers more than what the demo did for me as this is quite disappointing as I have high hopes on this one based on the trailers so far. But if all I did was pressing buttons while watching an anime, this one wouldn’t go well in my opinion.

I just found this on Facebook from one of my friends’ “shared a link”. The video was based on the now-pretty-famous Chinese movie called Ip Man, a Wing Chun master from China. For the first minute or so, it plays just like a regular youtube video but that’s when it starts to become interactive. The video requires you to press the pause button so that the villain can stop moving so fast (I don’t want to spoil too much detail of the video). Then the next villain shows up and attacks our protagonist with her loud voice, you now have to press the volumn button to mute her voice. Finally you need to turn back time to find out the traitor by clicking the time bar back to the first minute or so.

The movie is obviously a PR created by Wing Heong BBQ Meat, a company which sells dried meat. I shouldn’t be surprised by such interactivities, afterall, youtube uses Adobe Flash and we know Flash can be very interactive and engaging. Just look at how many Flash based game sites out there. But I look forward to see more of this type of youtube videos where you get to interact with the video and become part of it. Again its nothing new but companies should start using more often.

Check it out:

And NO, they are not paying me for posting this. I thought this video was rather interesting so that’s why I’m sharing with you guys.

Its been a while since we last saw the trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, or what most people thought was called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The VGA 2011 showed us another trailer, a more accurate presentation of what the next MG game is going to look like. Based on this latest trailer, its pretty obvious Metal Gear Rising: Reveneance is going to be an over the top action game similar to Bayonetta. This should not come as a surprise since the game is developed by PlatinumGames, the maker of Bayonetta, another over the top action game where you played as a sexy office lady looking witch.

So what’s so special about this button mashing game? First of all, it has Raiden in it and he’s the main protagonist this time. Another major selling point of this game will probably be the ability to slice and dice your enemies with precision as shown in this and one of the very first trailers where Raiden was slicing things into pieces in slow motion. Aside from these, the graphics look amazing! We will need to see more in game trailers before we can find out if there is anything, game mechanics wise, added to this game.

One of the older trailers:

Get More: GameTrailers.com, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – E3 2010: Debut Trailer, PC Games, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

I’ve read some of the comments from people and how they are complaining about this game is ruining the MGS series. Keep in mind this is not MGS: Rising but Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. To me this is a new series and not a direct continuation of MGS but a branched out one. I believe MGS is done because Snake is probably dead by now with his aging problem. Some are also complaining about its another Devil May Cry / Bayonetta clone, well so what? So therefore game developers should stop making over the top action games that require button mashing then? I have faith in PlatinumGames and Kojima.

I have high hopes for this one and so far it looks like a winner to me. Let’s just hope it comes out next year and not 2013.

See for yourself:

[Guest post by Margot]

A pedometer is a very basic and useful tool for measuring how much you walk each day. Unfortunately, most pedometers are inaccurate. They rely on archaic technology that can only guestimate each step you take based on movement. Plus, they only measure how much you walk. They can’t keep track of how much you swim or how many calories you burn while you’re dancing to your favorite pop song. Fortunately for fitness enthusiasts, the pedometer isn’t the only way you can keep track of how much you exercise every day. The technology accessory company Jawbone recently released a product called “Up” that is expected to take the fitness world by storm. This product measures exactly how much you exercise every day, no matter what way you’re exercising. Here’s what you should know about Up:

Up is essentially a high-tech bracelet that accurately monitors your movement on a daily basis. The bracelet is synced up with an application you can download on your Smartphone.

The Up bracelet will cost you around $100, and the Up app is free to download to your compatible Smartphone.

You simply put the Up bracelet on your wrist and download the Up app on your phone. Once you’ve done this, all of your physical activity will be kept track of for you.

You can wear the Up bracelet in the shower or when you’re swimming. It’s totally waterproof.

You use a silver button on the bracelet to signify what you’re doing: sleeping, exercising, or working. The bracelet will keep track of how much you exercise, your physical activity at work, and how much you sleep.

The Up Smartphone app also allows you to record what you’re eating throughout the day and calculates your daily caloric intake. The app’s “meal” feature also allows you to take pictures of what you’re eating and record how each meal makes you feel. This allows you to keep track of what meals/foods make you feel full, energized, tired, etc.

At the end of the day, you can check how many calories you’ve burned on the Up app.

The Up app will challenge you based on your current levels of activity. For instance, it may dare you to run an extra 250 steps. If you take the challenge on and complete it, you’ll be provided with incentives like free coupons for your performance.

So, if you’re interested in a gadget that will help you get and stay fit, consider Up. It’s a lot more useful than your old school pedometer!

Mitsubishi Electric Corp has developed something that I thought would only exist in Gundams – semispherical rear-projection display on cars. Basically as I understand it, the technology is similar to what rear-projection TVs are using with a touch sensitive semisphere that can track your hand movement as well as hand writing.

The thing is, based on the concept, it looks as though this technology is geared towards the driver instead of both driver and front passenger. I mean the technology is cool and all but I would rather concentrate on driving the car than fiddling with the semisphere, specially for manual drivers but then again by the time this is ready for mass production manual transmission might be a thing of the past so its actually not a problem. Nevertheless I would much prefer it being on the centre console so the front passenger have access to it as well.

And oh yeah I hate that steering wheel. We are not flying jets here. Unless this concept can also fly.

When I first saw the news on my Facebook page with the Title “Is this the world’s cheapest supercar?” I thought it was a real car. But it turns out its actually a radio control, or RC, race car that is capable of going from 0-62mph in a mere 2.3 seconds. That also means 0.16 seconds faster than the ugly, but super fast Bugatti Veyron. You can have the world’s fastest RC car for only £700, which in my opinion, is a pretty reasonable price.

My concerns are, where on earth can you actually race this besides a real race track as shown in the youtube video below. And I bet I need binoculars just to keep “track” of where it is. Even then its tough when its only 27 inches long. I also can’t imagine the repair cost for this car if it crashes, given the speed it can go, I am pretty sure it will be rendered unrepairable and there goes your £700.

But I still want this for Christmas! It would make my Christmas if I could review it for one day. Heck! Even half a day!

Check out the youtube video: (there are more obviously)

You’ve probably seen this comparison thousands of times. And its normal to see these two games being compared over and over again as new versions come out. There are fanboys from both sides bashing each other similar to PS3 vs Xbox 360 fanboys. I originally bought Battlefield 3 because I wanted a change (been playing the MW series for more than 3 years). And just yesterday I could resist but bought Modern Warfare 3 as well after trading in another game at EB Games.

Modern Warfare 3 is nothing special on the single player side, same graphics but new story (picked up from where last game left off), weapons and its still action packed. I was able to get back in the “game” almost right away after getting re-used to the controls. I have yet to play the multiplayer but I can imagine its the same fast pace, arcade-ish feel like previous titles.

So now comes the comparison, in my opinion, there’s none. Battlefield 3 is a slower paced and more realistic first person shooter with more players, bigger maps and you can drive vehicles. On the other hand Modern Warfare 3 is faster paced and less realistic, noticeably much less recoil from firing guns. But Modern Warfare does come with zombie mode (World at War and Black Ops) and this time there’s a survival mode where you fight off waves of enemies, buy/upgrade your weapons similar to zombie mode but without the zombies. This is the one feature I’m looking forward to after I finish the single player.

I think that both games actually compliment each other because they provide two distinct styles of game play for us gamers. When you want to get totally serious, play Battlefield 3. When you just want a few quickie games then play Modern Warfare 3.

Now can we just shut up and play the games? Both are great games with their pros and cons. So in the end, you cannot argue which is ultimately better. And guess what? They are both best sellers in the first person shooting genre.
