Right from the days when Gmail was just an invite only service and to this day when it is synonymous with email,it has always amazed us with its features and its ease of use.More recently the new compose format,integration of Google Drive has added to the long list.

Something had kept me off for quite some time.No better day than today to start fresh.So here it is Digg Reader.I have been personally using Google Reader for some years now and now that it is being finally put to rest,thought of saving my feeds.This can be done using numerous services available,most popular being feedly.

So just before the last weekend after which Google reader would not be available i have migrated to Digg Reader.Digg it self has changed a lot since the last time wrote on this blog.The process is simple and the transition smooth and you have a clutter free old Google reader feed arranged for you in The new Digg reader.

Visit :Digg Reader and simply click on Import Google Reader provide your Google Credentials and that's about it.Give it some time and the Feed is up and running.

As promised Google is continuing with the Change to its various services.This time it is the Home page it self which has been given a major face lit.The Black floating Google menu bar of Google+ has made its way on to Google homepage.This is visible only when you are logged into Google account and access Google.

The Services have been arranged in form of a drop down menu(with most used) services and "more" option has been added for other services and as usual we also have "Even More" option to get the complete list.

Google News Gets a Face Lift.

This was much needed and rightly so,because there are hardly other sources of news that one bothers to browse through on a daily basis. Google news is for People,the common people who want their daily dose of all news(National,International,Science,technology and not to forget Entertainment)at one place.With the series of changes that were being done to other services by Google, this was pretty much expected,so after giving it a test run for about two weeks (that was when i had first noticed the changes),they have finally decided to roll it to the public.

So what is New in Google News?

First of all the layout has been given a big overhaul.the articles now appear in collapsible boxes,which can be expanded to read the articles.The importance of sharing news has finally been realised By Google and and now Sharing Buttons(+1,Twitter,Facebook and Email) options sit up prominently right below the Article headline.here too a bit of innovation has been applied the Google Way,The +1 Button( Google Product) is visible all the time under the article headline but the other sharing options only appear after the article has been expanded.Now that might sound silly but,that's a pretty way to be at the Right Place all the time.At the End of Each Article there is a list of related Videos as well that can be browsed through.

The personalisation of the news has been highlighted as well.Now one would be able to add Topics and the sources you want in your Google News.the Process has been made very Simple,Just type the Topic and click on the "+" sign to add it.Sliders have been added to help you adjust the frequency of inclusion of a particular Topic in Your news.The Slider can be set to various levels like Rarely,Occasionally,sometimes,Often and Always.

The layout can even be changed by selecting the settings button and setting it to One/Two columns.Auto refresh of the page can even be set (but the default time is set to Fifteen Minutes).

After a few drastic changes to the News Feed just before the Annual keynote,Facebook had managed to annoy its users to the brink,and at the keynote they launched "Timeline",Your complete life story as it was hailed.I must agree it is so nicely planned that designed that a user finds its irresistible to put in more information about himself.Facebook has taken the idea that,sharing does not necessarily mean Just "Photos,Videos, and Status message" it is much more.Timeline serves a single page reflecting the entire interaction of the user on Facebook Till date .Anything that has been shared ever by the user would appear on the timeline.The infinite scroll does a pretty good job.

What is Timeline?

It lets you share more information than the routine " Photo,video,Status and and Place check-In".It aims to collate all your information Right from birth till date cleverly camouflaging them under different updates.So once any individual happens to upload all the information,it can serve as a one stop destination for that individual's life story on this earth.The life story will have all the important ingredients his birth,his first day at school,the day he learnt to ride the bicycle ,to he first day at high school,the name of his first crush,to the day of his graduation and the important days of his life engagement, marriage, death of a loved one and every other event that one can possibly happen in a person's lifetime.

Family and Relationships:
Now you can update all your important events in your life.Your Marriage,Engagement and the special moment when your first baby comes into the world.Everything has been taken care of so that you can update it on your time line.

Living:
Here Facebook timeline lets you update the other important aspect of your life,i.e Assets (both material and Emotional). You bought a New range Rover or bought your long due mansion ,you are just clicks away from sharing with your loved ones.

Health and Wellness:
This option aims to keep a track of physical well being,so no more silly status message saying " Felling Sick",Now on wards Facebook wants you to share the Type of Disease and if possible upload a picture of that "X -Ray" of broken elbow with the copy of the prescribed medicine.This option could have been easily overlooked but the extent to which Facebook has planned this Timeline,this was anything but Necessary.

Milestones and Experiences:
This is for the people who are more obsesses with "I".This is a welcome addition where in people can update their never ending quest for perfection.A language learnt, New book read ,Clocked your highest score on Angry Birds etc can be updated in this section .

For all the Above options that have been added for you to share,every tiniest of the information/happening in your life,if you still manage to come up with something that even Facebook thought was not possible,Don't worry you can still update it.Just click on the option that says "Other Life Event" at the bottom of all the options and enter the details.

3) Individual Post Can be Managed.

Individual posts can managed so that you put the content on time line that you want to share.The post can be selected to appear on the timeline or individual posts can be deleted as well.

4) Rewrite your Life Story:

OK,this feature in timeline lets you add events in the past through the "Sharing Box".Just click anywhere on the time line and the"Sharing Box" appears.Add anything you want to share and it would be apart of your time line.So,this is like Time Travelling to Past and Adding events so that it can be shared with friends.

No visible changes have been done to the Account and Privacy Settings and the latest changes to the News feed remain intact.The annoying "Ticker" still would be there. Facebook chat too remains the same as well.

This was an introduction to Timeline on Facebook.Once it launches and goes live for everyone a lot of questions may arise ,like how to manage the Time line the best way etc.I will be covering it in another post once time line is live for everyone.

Facebook is showing no signs of resting,everyday you log into your account and you might be surprised to see that the layout once again has changed.This has been happening for since Months together.

Here are the changes,if you find hard to recollect them:

* The facebook chat was changed and there was huge cry of disapproval.

* Then again the Facebook chat was given overhaul,with the minimize button and ability show all on line friends rather than selected few.

* The Clear chat History was again introduces after about a year of not being there.

* The dynamic news Feed on the right hand side called Ticker was put into Test Run ,for few individuals and then taken off.

* The Sharing was given a boost with the introduction of Predefined groups like Friends,Public and Custom.

* Adding the ability check in to places made easier.

* The ability to selectively share profile information was introduced,through controls for each profile information.

* Ability to approve and deny Tags were introduced.

* The picture viewer was given an overhaul and the background of the Light box was changed to white from black and it was claimed that pictures were bigger and loaded faster.

* Customisable news feed was introduced,where in feed could be set to display only photos,status updates,links etc.

* Introduction of Group Chat.

* Introduction of Video chat with Skype integration.

* Smart lists were introduced,which mysteriously added people to groups on basis of the information on their profile page.People were even suggested to be your Close friends and it also told you who were your Family members.

* Finally yesterday's mammoth overhaul of the News feed once again.

* Top stories since the last visit are at the top of the feed.

* Recent stories are shown in the order they were posted and

My suggestion is that Facebook has always been liked by people because of the simplicity of the layout.But with the advent of News Social Networking sites Like Google+,Facebook seems to have taken the bait and jumped into the battle with all guns blazing.Facebook must not forget that People resist change and it takes time for them to get used to something new,but when changes are being made at a pace as facebook has been making ,People don't resist they lose hope.They no longer will long into their Facebook accounts to connect to their near and dear ones but will log into check what new has been thrown at them without their will and will smile to themselves at their inability to switch to an alternative.But if Facebook pushes it further they might never know, they very people who brought the company where it is right now will leave it right in the middle of its self obsessed Race of Innovation and switch over to worthy alternative,no prizes for guessing What its is.

After waiting for what felt like ages,google finally decided to open the services to Public and what better way to announce it it than on its homepage it self.Once again it was done the Trademark google Way.The home page greets you with an arrow pointing to +You on the Top Left hand corner in addition to the announcement below the Search box .

This was much needed launch to Open to public amidst all the claims that the traffic has reduced and so has the sharing on Google+ and people also claiming that Google| has lost its buzz and Feel.So now that it is open to public it just a matter of time before we see the actual numbers coming up and how people are really taking to the new Social network.

Smart Lists in Facebook.

Lists were already there in Facebook ,but overnight something called Smart Lists have made way through to my Facebook Profile page.So what are Smart Lists?.According to Facebook this list automatically updates Friends into Lists according to Their Profile Information.Once these smart list are created you can follow the updates of these individual lists.

OK this seems like Specific circles in Google+ and individual streams for each circle but one difference is unlike Google+ theses lists are automatically created and added to the list.Two basic ones being Close Friends and Family.

What can be done with Smart Lists?

Smart lists can be completely managed by the user.new friends can be added or deleted.Content to be displayed for the individual lists can be set and lists can be merged as well.New lists can be created.Lists can be marked as favourite and can be hidden as well.

The suggestions for the lists were pretty much accurate except for the suggestions for "Close Friends" and "Family",which i guess was more inclined to the Profiles with which one interacted the most.

Within About a week of announcement of New privacy and Sharing Options,the Changes are Live For Facebook Users.This comes after days of the "Live Feed" going live on Facebook.

Here are the major Changes.

1) Changes in Sharing Options:

The Default Sharing options for Posts On the Wall has been restricted to " Public ,Friends and Custom"

Tagging Friends is Possible For Posts:

Friends can now be directly Tagged into Posts,making It easier to share events and places visited Together.To Tag Friends Just click on the"Small Friend" icon and Add Friends to mention them in the Post.

Locations Can Be added to Posts:

Adding Location now can be done directly from the wall,just click on the "balloon" icon and search for the place to add your location. Bing maps is Used to search for a location.

2) Changes to Privacy Settings:

This was a much needed addition.Now on The profile information can be shared with individuals you want.Each Information under profile information comes with a sharing option next to it.So,now you can share your Location with everyone where as Your Date Of Birth With Just a Few Friends.

With the Introduction of Improved The Tagging feature,new options have been added under Privacy settings to Manage Tags.

Click on "How To Tags Work" to :

* Approve and Deny Tags That Friends Add to Your Posts.
* Approve and Reject Tags on Photos/Posts by friends before they appear on your Profile.

The latter is a important development considering the fact the no of Unwanted photos we are generally tagged in by friends and they make their way on to our profile page.With the new feature you can deny the Tags and they don't appear on your profile page.

Although it was not apart of the announced changes to the Sharing and Privacy Improvements.This too has been introduced.After the introduction of the New Photo Viewer with the "Black Light Box",there was huge discontent among users and there was huge opinion to get back to the old photo viewer.So finally the Photo Viewer has again been given a design overhaul ,now it is a"White Light Box" with the "Next" and "Back" button added for enhanced photo viewing.The new Photos would be displayed at higher resolution (720 pixels to 960 pixels ) and they load faster too.

Chrome has a lot of useful extensions available that lets you many a things.At the same time there are some in built features in Chrome which are very useful,one of these features is the Print option and the more recent Addition of print Preview.The Print option not only can help you print Web pages but it can also be used to save the Webpages into PDF files directly for Chrome Itself without the need of any additional Add ons or extensions.

Here is the Process Explained.

Step 1 - Click on The Wrench Menu while on a Web Page You ant to Save as PDF and Click on Print Option.

Step 2 - Once Print is Clicked The print preview Window Opens up with the Web Page.

Step 3 - Right Click any where on the Preview Window on the "Right Side" and clcik on " Save As".

Once "Save As" is clicked Select a Place to Save the PDF file. Process Complete.

Note:
There are a lot of websites too that help you convert web pages into PDF files.There are Browser Add ons as well which can be given a try.But process explained above would be the easiest of the lot.

Many of you already might have used the voice search in google.It works on Google chrome and Android phones.This feature lets you initiate search by speaking after Hitting the Microphone Button on The search Box.The feature was not available to Google Maps until now.

So now Onwards when you Open Up Maps.Google.com in the Search Box you would find a Microphone Icon to the Corner of the Search Box.Just click on it and Maps will Search the place for You.

As expected google announced deeper integration of the +1 Button with Google+.This comes days after the Google+ Hangout integration in YouTube.So now people will not only able to recommend content using +1 button but they would be able to directly share content on to their Stream in Google+.So the moment you click on +1 Button anywhere on the web to recommend it,at the same time you will have an option of sharing on Google+ if you find it worth sharing.

User Galleries On Twitter.

Yesterday i noticed a new feature on Twitter,if you clicked on A Tweet containing a Link To picture it appeared on the Details portion on the Right hand Side.How is this feature different?.Until now only pictures uploaded through Twitter Picture upload used to show up there,but now all the major Picture sharing(Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram) services are being supported.

Features:

* Maximum Pictures that can be displayed is limited to most recent 100 images arranged chronologically.
* No images shared before January 1,2010 will be apart of User galleries.
* The Pictures displayed are aggregated from the various sources you have used to upload them.It may be Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram, etc.
* The Pictures can be displayed in two ways namely Grid and Slide show.
* Thumbnail Pictures of Videos will not be apart of User galleries
* To remove a Picture from user Galleries just delete the tweet Containing the Picture.This Deletion Does not remove the picture from the servers of the Third party Hosts like yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram.

The View can be changed according to ones preference and can be set to either grid or Slide show.

Google+ integration with YouTube has finally started.It is now possible to start a Hangout right from YouTube itself.

How To start a Google+ Hangout from YouTube?

Just click on the Share button below any you tube Video and You will find another option at the Right had Corner called "Start a Google+ Hangout".

Once "Start a Google+ Hangout" the Hangout window opens and you can invite your Friends to join the Hangout.

Previously it was a bit tedious process of searching for video in the Hangout window it self and playing it,but with the addition of this option it has become so much more easier to start a Google+ Hangout with a Video.

With this integration Google has made sure that Google+ Plus users have a better YouTube Integration,it is just a matter of time before we see the Google+ option under the Share Video along with widely used Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook Sports A Slight New Look.

This morning when i logged in to Facebook,i noticed something had changed and when noticed carefully it was found that the way Pages,Groups,Games etc were displayed had changed.

Here are the Changes:

Everything has been neatly arranged under four different Heads.
1) Favorites - News Feed,Messes,Events and Friends.
2) Groups - This displays the most recently participated groups.
3) Pages- This displays the Most recently used Pages.
4) Apps- Here the App,Games Requests and Notes are displayed.

This was Before: This is Now.

Note:

Previously In order to access notes and Pages it was required to click on More to access them.but now with the new format they are always displayed.Moreover in case you are involved in a large number of groups and Pages the New format displays the most Recently used ones by default.To check all the Pages or Groups just click on Respective headings.
