I am a firm believer in passing on blessings. To whom much is given, much is required: sounds awfully cliche, but I live by it. I have been so blessed in my short lifetime and I, in turn, always try to give of myself. And that's where you and this contest comes in.

K Sherrie+Company Planning Atelier will be giving one stylish, modern and chic bride and groom a complete Sapphire Service Level package! This contest will be open to all brides in the Indianapolis metro area. Yup--this includes Brownsburg, Avon, Plainfield, Zionsville, McCordsville, Geist--you get the idea. Any reader/visitor of our blog and website is welcome to enter.

The Sapphire Service Level is our “Month-of Coordination" service level. We box up all of your planning and details and package it nicely and put a nice pink bow on top! What this really means is that we meet with you to go over your concept and vision for the day, contact and finalize all your vendors, help with last-minute snafus, design a wedding day timeline and produce and coordinate your wedding rehearsal and your wedding day. The contest ends at midnight on July 31, 2009.

Here’s how you can enter: Send us your story—how you met, your engagement story, your vision for your day, any planning obstacles you’ve faced and why you think you’d need the extra help on your wedding day. Even if you aren’t getting married, send us the story of a couple that you know needs the extra assistance.

In these lean economic times, not everyone can afford to go the bespoke stationery route. Thankfully, there are a plethora of options for these brides. Did you know that Shutterfly offers Save-the-Date stationery?

It is always my suggestion to go clean, simple and modern when you are trying to cut costs and these Save-the-Dates will give you just that. Available as text only, with one picture or even two or three photos, Shutterfly has designs that cover an array of tastes. Some of my favorites from their site are below.

Save-the-Dates are always welcome for any wedding if you will have a large number of guests traveling for the wedding or if the celebration is over a holiday weekend. It is best to send the Save-the-Dates at least eight months prior to the wedding. If you are having a destination wedding and some people may need to save to travel, twelve months out is more appropriate. In this case, a wedding newsletter may even be a better option that spells out the details of the wedding.

Personalize Your Wedding with Silhouettes

I recently used silhouettes in my home to personalize my bathroom a bit. At first I thought people would think it was a little self-aggrandizing, but actually, everyone loved it! The whole concept was "so me," the silhouette really looked like me and the whole thing just worked.

You can make silhouettes work to personalize your wedding. A silhouette of you and your honey can be the anchor that themes your celebration from beginning to end. Use them on your save-the-dates, your wedding stationery, place cards and/or escort cards, room decor and even wedding favors. The possibilities are endless, really.

I got my custom silhouette made by Willow Creek Designs, an Etsy store. It was quite easy. I took a picture, sent it in by email, chose my color and they sent me the decals. You can use the images on your print items and the decals to decorate the venue. Just be sure to make it clear that you want images, decals or both.

Mojitos and martinis are so two years ago! Set the trends and add sizzle to your summer weddings, showers and engagement parties with some different, sumptuous and sexy cocktails.

Introducing the Ole! In Mexico, the party starts early and finishes late. Celebrate at home with an ode to a local drink, this pretty and sophisticated cocktail. It's perfect sip for a summer soiree.

Serving: 1

INGREDIENTS:
Ice cubes
1-1/2 oz. top-shelf tequila
1 oz. banana liqueur
Dash of blue curaçao

Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila and banana liqueur, then shake well. Strain into a small, chilled cocktail glass. Tip a dash of blue curaçao into the drink to achieve a two-tone effect.

See! Very simple! You can make this drink in larger quantities and chill ahead of time. Just wait until serving time to add the blue curaçao.

This list can be turned into an awesome wedding favor. This is one CD that would get plenty of play of you gave it out to your guests. You most likely can't fit all twenty-five songs on one CD, so mix and match the songs on a few different playlists.

If you have specific songs that you want your DJ or band to play {and I'm sure you do!}, be sure to give him or her enough advance time in case the songs need to be found or downloaded. Four to six weeks prior to the wedding is more than enough time.

The Art of Writing a Great Thank You Note: Part 2

Continuing from yesterday's post, below are more tips on how to write an awesome thank you note. We want you to be on the right side of living graciously. Click here to read tips 1 and 2.

3. Discuss Use
I really love going to the movies, so I will definitely use them.

Say something nice about the item and how you will use it. Let’s say it’s something you actually love and use incessantly—then say so: ‘Ever since I got the robe I have only taken it off to shower and go to work. I’d wear it to the office if I thought I could get away with it.’

But don’t lie. Even if you hate the robe, you can find something nice to say about it. Find the one thing about them that’s nice and discuss--but don’t go overboard. ‘I love the deep purple color of the robe’ is great. ‘The robe make my heart sing like a choir of angels,’ is overkill. If the gift was money, mention how you will use the cash, but don't elaborate in painful detail. A simple ‘It will be a great help when we purchase our new home/puppy/washing machine’ will do the trick.

4. Mention the Past, Allude to the Future
It was great to see you at Mike's birthday party and I hope to see you at my wedding in October.

Why did they give you the gift? What does it mean to your relationship with the giver? If it’s someone you see infrequently, just mention whatever you know: ‘Mom tells me you’re doing great, and I hope we cross paths soon.’ If it’s someone you’re in regular contact with: ‘I’ll call you soon, but I wanted to take time to say thanks.’

5. Grace
Thanks again for your gift.

It’s not overkill to say thanks again. So say it.

This is the wrap up. Use your standard go-to lines: Sincerely, Love, Yours Truly, With Love. Then sign your name and you’re done.

What’s Not in the Thank You Note
This isn’t the time to brag about your new job, a hot fiance or number of designer bags you own. The thank-you is exclusively about thanking somebody for their kindness. Don't include anything about your life. It may be tempting, but this is not the forum. Save that for your high school reunion.

The Art of Writing a Great Thank You Note

Somewhere along the line between the founding of the United States Postal Service and the invention of email, we have completely lost touch with the premise of writing simple thank you notes. Now, more than ever, we need to return to the basics and revive adult etiquette and start penning beautifully-written, thoughtful notes of gratitude. When someone has spent their hard-earned cash and hard-pressed time on you, an email simply won't cut it.

Every gift deserves a thank you. Even the re-gifted, dirty lavendar earrings {flashback from childhood, sorry}. Wedding and shower gifts definitely get thank you notes. The only person who may not deserve a written thank you is the person that you live with.

Writing great thank you notes is easier than you think and does not take up that much time. I keep blank cards in my desk at both offices and home because I always want to be prepared to show my appreciation. You should try to do the same. Stash some pretty stationery, note cards or an assortment of quirky postcards and proper postage. I generally don't use full 8-1/2x11" sheets of paper, either. It doesn't take all of that and your message should be short and sweet.

Below are a few pointers that help you successfully navigate the Art of Writing a Great Thank You Note. Commit it to your long-term memory: you'll be the social maven of all your friends.

1. Greet the Giver
Ummmm. . .self explanatory but often overlooked.
Dear NaKisha,

Perfect! Don’t let poor handwriting stop you from penning a note. Do NOT type them. It's just not cool.

2. Express Your Gratitude
Thank you so much for the movie passes.

Don't fall into the just writing trap. You are not ‘just writing to say’ as in I am just writing to say; that’s stating the obvious. If the giver is reading, clearly you have already written. Also, never directly mention money. ‘Thank you for the million dollars’ could instead be ‘Thank you for your generosity.’ All cash denominations become ‘your generosity’ or ‘your kindness.’ If you feel the giver overspent, the farthest you can go is appreciated: ‘Your generosity is appreciated,’ or ‘It is such an extravagant gift—your kindness is appreciated.’

If you’re writing to thank someone for an intangible {such as them putting you up at their place while you were in town for the weekend}, first define what the intangible thing is and then make the gift sound as attractive as possible. In other words, don’t say: ‘Thanks for letting us crash at your pad.’ Instead say: ‘Thank you for your hospitality.’ Sounds too simple? It's supposed to be. . .the point of writing the note is to create a simple expression of a heartfelt sentiment.

Bright, sunshiny day? Check. Gucci shades. Check. Fun times with wedding vendors friends AND beautiful photos? Check mate!

I got the rest of my photos from Amanda Wilcher Photography today and as promised, I want to show MY favorites. If you follow me on Twitter, then you saw my tweet about how SICK her branding and marketing collateral is. I will share those pics in a minute. They deliver the whole client experience, from beginning to end. . .something Amanda and Kyle like to refer to as their " 'ness." It is truly remarkable.

These two are my ABSOLUTE favorites. The green of the grass and shrubbery matched my shirt perfectly and the picture is just so vibrant.

Loving the gorgeous sunlight in these photos. I totally look like a Butler in the picture below.

So on to the extra slick packaging that Amanda delivered my disk in. And please forgive my picture phone photos! She handed me this gorgeous case--shrink wrapped and everything! It was a lovely blush pink color.

Open the case--and this is what I see!

And then all of her contact information on the back, which coordinates nicely with her shimmery business cards. I pay attention to details. They know how to get the details. Brides: do your self a favor and call them!

Wedding Planner Vs. On-Site Coordinator

DIY 5-Star Spa Treatment

If you're like most brides, butt-naked strippers for your bachelorette party is a thing of the past. Have fun with your girls and wind down with some at-home spa treatments.

Kate Somerville Spa in LA is renowned for the Ultimate Kate Facial. Stars love it for it maximal skin rejuvenation effects. For the $370 price tag, it should work wonders. Here's how you can replicate it a votre maison.

Wash face with your cleanser and remove dirt and makeup.
Boil three cups of water and pour into a large bowl. Drape a towel over your head and slower lower your face until it is about one foot above the bowl. Steam for at least five minutes to open pores and soften skin.
Apply a fruit enzyme scrub, let sit for five minutes, wash off with warm water and pat skin dry.
Next, apply a clay mask for deep-cleansing. Apply a thin layer all over face. Allow the mask to dry, then rinse with warm water.
Lastly, smooth on a hyaluronic acid serum {skin plumpling!}. Go a step further and treat yourself to a 15-minute session with a handheld LED {light-emitting diode}. This will stimulate collagen production and increase firmness.

Don't forget to add the plush robes and wine and you gals are all set!

Amanda and her husband Kyle {Amanda Wilcher Photographers} took me for a stroll around Lockerbie neighborhood and took some amazing photos of me so I can update the website. I like to switch up my photos every spring and fall. And I thought we were just going to do head shots!

{Going beyond what the client expects: a hallmark of a great wedding business. . .hint, hint!}

I had an absolute blast with those two. We walked and laughed and talked and I posed. I wouldn't think twice about having them with my brides for a wedding because I know the brides would be extremely relaxed and comfortable.

{Hallmark of a great wedding photographer: subjects MUST be comfortable around them for great shots to happen--they'll be your shadows all day!}

For one particular shot, we walked past the house and yard because all the pretty flowers were gone. About a block and a half later, Amanda stopped and said, "Wait! Let's go back!" And go back we did. And those pics ended up being my absolute favorite! The foliage was so green and vibrant! I can't wait to get the disk with all the photos--although I think I could stand to take off ten. Until then, I just have to satisfy myself by blogstalking twice a day at minimum.

My not-so-secret secret: I love nice clothes/shoes/bags. In copious amounts.

Should You Write Your Own Vows?

The vows are the most important part of a wedding. Without them, you have nothing: not even a marriage. However, with all the details and fuss of planning a wedding, the wedding vows are often overlooked. Even those who swear they are going to write their own, meaningful, heartfelt vows often wait until the very last minute. Vows are the bricks and mortar of your marriage--you really want to take time to share what's really on your mind and in your heart.

Are you up to writing your own vows? Can you recite them in front of all of your family and friends? Or, should you then go with classic or traditional wedding vows instead? The choice is definitely a personal one. Some couples like the traditional and time-tested vows that are offered. Other couples want something more meaningful and personal, so they choose to write their own. Neither option is right or wrong, as long as when you recite your vows, you adhere to the meaning behind the words.
